Stella Moore

Funeral services for Stella Faye Moore, 84, of Sheridan were 10 a.m. today at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with Pastor Kenneth Burket officiating. Mrs. Moore died Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at Westview Health Care Center. She was born May 27, 1916, to Clarence E. and Cora A. (Ward) Keller at the family home near Sidney, Mont. She grew up on the farm, riding a horse to school until she moved to Richey, Mont., to attend high school. She married Thomas M. Moore in 1936. His work and ministry took them to various parts of the country until they settled in Sheridan. Mrs. Moore played the piano, accordion and saxophone and enjoyed singing with her family. She played the piano at Westview, where she lived the past 10 years. She was a member of First Assembly of God Church. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1996; a son, Thomas Manuel; a daughter, Betty Louise Rose; sisters Thelma Hines and Wilma Josephson; a brother, Clarence Keller; and a grandson. Survivors include two sons, Ron of Sheridan and Lloyd of Mountain View, Mo.; three daughters, Delta Drobnick of Sheridan, Elvira Hall of Bloomfield, N.M., and Ronda Hughes of Wichita Falls, Texas; a sister, Florence Fatzinger of Sidney; 21 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Martha Eads

Martha M. Eads, 83, of Sheridan died Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at Sheridan Manor. Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be in California at a later date. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Eads was born Jan. 11, 1918, in Emporia, Kan., to Levi and Myrtle (Long) Chase. The family later moved to Muskogee, Okla., where Mrs. Eads received her education through high school. She attended the University of Texas and Boulder, Colo., School of Nursing. She graduated from CSU in 1942 as a registered nurse and worked for several years at Colorado General Hospital. She married James Eads May 1, 1943, in Denver. They moved to Sheridan after the end of World War II. She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, playing piano, sewing, cooking and taking care of her family. She was a member of the Audubon Society and participated in the annual bird counts. She was preceded in death by her brother, Marion, and a sister, Sarah. Survivors include her husband of Sheridan; two daughters, Judith Cornish of Hawaii and Christina Kysar of Idaho; a son, John of California; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Nancy Schmitz

BOZEMAN, Mont. — Sheridan-native Nancy L. Schmitz, 67, died Friday, April 27, 2001, at her home in Bozeman, Mont. Memorial Mass is 2 p.m. today at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Bozeman. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements are with Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service. Mrs. Schmitz was born Dec. 15, 1933, in Sheridan to Anna Margaret and Howard Powell. She grew up in Sheridan and married Bill Schmitz in 1950. They moved to Billings in 1968 and to Bozeman in 1975. She was preceded in death by a brother, Jed; and one grandson. Survivors include her husband, Bill Schmitz, of Billings, four children, Peggy, Randy, Jeri and Bill; and 11 grandchildren. Daniel George, 91, of Sheridan died Thursday, April 26, 2001, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Viewing will be 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joseph Keys officiating. Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.

WYARNO — James E. Hardesty, 70, of Wyarno died Sunday, April 29, 2001, at his ranch home. Viewing will be 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Warren B. Sheldon Jr.

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — Warren B. Sheldon Jr., 53, died Sunday, April 22, 2001, in the VA Medical Center. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Sheridan Elks Cemetery with Elks Lodge #520 officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Sheldon was born in Sheridan to Warren “Ole’” and Delores “Dee” (LaBurda) Sheldon. He graduated from Sheridan High School in 1965 and attended Luzerne County Community College in Pennsylvania. Mr. Sheldon enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and served two tours in Vietnam. He received the Bronze Star, National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Commendation Medal. He worked as a nursing assistant for the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Wilkes-Barre until he retired. Mr. Sheldon was a member of St. John’s Russian Orthodox Church, American Legion, Vietnam Veterans of America, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #238 and Sheridan Elks Lodge #520. Survivors include a brother, Dr. Kenneth Sheldon, Rocky Mount, N.C.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Memorials may benefit the Sheridan Elks Lodge #520.

John Boykin Stevison

John Boykin Stevison, 78, Sheridan, died Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at Sheridan Manor. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Friday at Kane Funeral Home. Graveside services are 2 p.m. Saturday in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with Pastor William Heine officiating. Mr. Stevison was born Dec. 29, 1922, in Stateline, Miss., to John Madison and Fertilla (Laughton) Stevison. As a child he attended schools in Waynesboro, Miss. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He moved to Wyoming in 1945, and on Jan. 10, 1946, he married Esther McCoy in Billings. Mr. Stevison worked as a nurse’s assistant at the Sheridan VA Medical Center for 30 years and retired from the VA in 1976. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and attending Sheridan High School football games. He belonged to Immanuel Lutheran Church. Mr. Stevison was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his wife, Esther of Sheridan; a son, John of Sheridan; two daughters, Joyce Arbach of Sheridan and Mary A. Townsend of Sturgis, S.D.; and two granddaughters.

Robert Diefenderfer

Robert Lee “Bob” Diefenderfer, 58, of Sheridan died of leukemia Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at St. Vincent Hospital and Health Center in Billings. Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at Sheridan Wesleyan Church. Arrangements are with Cremation or Funeral Gallery of Billings. Mr. Diefenderfer was born May 5, 1942, to Robert Diefenderfer Jr. and Elberta Beryl Meyers Diefenderfer. His parents divorced, and his father later married Maxine Mural McAlister. Mr. Diefenderfer grew up in Sheridan and graduated from Sheridan High School. He studied business at Arizona State University. He married Mary Lou McMullen, and they settled in Detroit where he had a 17-year career with Massey Ferguson. He returned to Sheridan in 1992 after suffering a stroke. Survivors include two sons, Robert Lee Jr. of Sinclair Shores, Mich., and Todd of Cordova, Tenn.; his father of Sheridan; two sisters, Sandy Koltiska and Kim Shackelford, both of Sheridan; six brothers, Dan of Sheridan, Bruce of South Dakota, Mike of Colorado, Steve of Laurel, Mont., Tracy of Billings and Tyler of Buffalo; and one grandson. Hardy MacCatherine

Funeral services for Clifford Hardy MacCatherine, 84, of Sheridan will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 27, 2001, at Kane Funeral Home with George Tellez officiating.
Interment will be in the Elks Cemetery. Mr. MacCatherine died Monday at the Sheridan VA Medical Center. He was born April 8, 1917, in Harrison, Ark., to Clifford and Jessica (Briscoe) MacCatherine. He was a graduate of Sheridan High School. He married Maxine Murdock in 1939. They later divorced. Mr. MacCatherine joined the Navy June 19, 1944, and served in the Asiatic-Pacific area as a radioman on an aircraft carrier. He was honorably discharged Dec. 9, 1945. He married Phyllis Olson Dec. 29, 1952, in Sheridan. He was known in his youth for his athletic prowess, especially in basketball. He was a lifetime member of the Elks, a member of the United Transportation Union and a member for more than 50 years of American Legion Post #7. He was preceded in death by a sister, Marjorie, and three brothers, Stuart, Merwin and Richard. Survivors include his wife, of Sheridan; a son, Richard of Roundup, Mont.; two daughters, Peggy Buckley of Sheridan and Pat Cowgill of Guthrie, Okla.; two stepdaughters, Jane Adams of Sheridan and Ann Sparks of Casper; a sister, Betty Ruff of Sheridan; 17 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Whedon Cancer Foundation or to the Sheridan Chapter of Meals on Wheels in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Isable Blaney

Isable D. Blaney, 83, of Sheridan died Monday, April 23, 2001, in Westview Health Care Center. At her request, no services will be held. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Blaney was born Oct. 26, 1917, in Big Horn to Fred and Ella (Townsend) Kusel. She grew up and attended school in Big Horn. She married Dan Blaney Sr. Aug. 27, 1936, in Sheridan. They ranched on Soldier Creek and several other ranches until they retired and lived south of Sheridan. Mr. Blaney died in 1990, and Mrs. Blaney moved to Sheridan in 1998. She enjoyed raising horses and growing flowers. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred and Art Kusel. Survivors include one son, Dan Blaney Jr. of Sheridan; two grandsons; and seven great-grandchildren.

Former Sheridan resident Warren B. Sheldon Jr., 53, died Sunday, April 22, 2001, in the VA Medical Center in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday in the Sheridan Elks Cemetery with officers of Elks Lodge 520 officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Betty Mae Banas

Former Sheridan resident Betty Mae Banas, 77, of Grand Junction, Colo., died Sunday, April 22, 2001, at St. Mary’s Hospital. A memorial service is 3:30 p.m. today at Koinonia Church with Pastor Don Self officiating. Callahan-Edfast Mortuary handled arrangements. Mrs. Banas was born Jan. 22, 1924, in Briggsdale, Colo., to Arthur R.M. and Martha E. (Schnepf) Scott. She grew up in Sheridan and graduated from Sheridan High School. She married George Banas in Sheridan. She received a business degree in Denver and was a medical secretary. She was a resident of Grand Junction 25 years, a member of Koinonia Church and the church board of directors and a member of Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays of the Western Slope. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1995 and a son, Scott. Survivors include a son, Milton G.; a daughter, Chris R. Scott; a brother, Roy M. Scott of Boulder, Colo.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was born Feb. 18, 1912, to Frank and Louisa (Kostal) Matejovitz in Dietz. She married Frank Marosok Feb. 11, 1931, in Monarch. She was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church. She enjoyed bingo, crossword puzzles, gardening and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, three sisters and five brothers. Survivors include two sons, Robert E. of Sheridan and Frank W. of Greeley, Colo.; a daughter, Jean M. CASPER — Patricia Ann “Pat” Clark, 69, of Casper died Wednesday, April 18, 2001, in the Wyoming Medical Center. She was mother of Cheryl Glidden of Sheridan. Graveside services were 11 a.m. today in Highland Cemetery with Pastor Dan Keller officiating. Cremation has taken place under direction of Bustard’s Funeral Home of Casper. Mrs. Clark was born July 18, 1931, in Oral, S.D., to George Dedoes and Mary Elizabeth Evans. She attended school in Oral. She married Samuel Gene Clark Dec. 20, 1952, in Baker, Mont. She worked as a waitress at various restaurants in Casper. She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Kimberly Clark; and a son, Lloyd Clark. Besides her daughter, survivors include a son, Robert D. Powell of Hot Springs, S.D.; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Cory, Bridgette Bidonde

BUFFALO — Memorial services for Cory Dee Bidonde, 38, and her daughter, Bridgette Anne Bidonde, 16, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at the Johnson County Fairgrounds in Buffalo with the Rev. Philip Wilson of Cowboys For Christ in Jackson Hole officiating. Arrangements are with Adams Funeral Home of Buffalo. The mother and daughter died accidentally of asphyxiation Saturday while attending the High School Rodeo in Thermopolis.

Infant Shelby Marie Buskirk died Wednesday, April 18, 2001, in St. Vincent’s Hospital in Billings. Viewing will begin at 6:30 p.m. Sunday in the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church in Sheridan. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday in the baby section of Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. She was born Monday, April 16, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County to Jamie and Nancy (Schoenfelder) Buskirk. Survivors include her parents of Sheridan; grandparents Jon and Mona Schoenfelder and Debbie and Sonny Buskirk, all of Sheridan; a great-grandmother, Catherine Steckelberg of Piedmont, S.D.; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Ruth Larsen

Funeral services for Ruth K. Larsen, 92, of Sheridan will be 10 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Revs. Ronald Nelson and Wilbur Holz officiating. Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery, Masonic #8 Section. Viewing is until 5 p.m. today at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Larsen died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at Westview Health Care Center. She was born Oct. 8, 1908, in Big Horn County, Mont., to Frank and Nettie (Lupton) Kimmel. The family moved to Sheridan, where she attended Sheridan High School and received nurse’s training at Memorial Hospital. She married Jens Larsen Sept. 5, 1928, in Sheridan. They lived at Eatons’ Ranch, where he was lower ranch foreman. They moved to Laramie in 1942, and she worked at Ivinson Memorial Hospital until they returned to Sheridan in 1945. She was nursing supervisor at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County until 1950, when she became school nurse for Sheridan County School District 2. She retired in 1968 — the year she was honored as “Nurse of the Year” by the Nurses Association. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Eastern Star and a 50-year member of the Mid-Century Homemakers Club. She enjoyed her Bible-study group at Sugarland Ridge, spending time at the family’s cabin in the mountains, playing cards and gardening. She was preceded in death by her husband, in 1984, and by two brothers and five sisters. Survivors include two sons, Donald of Sheridan and Leonard of Worland; two sisters, Edith Collins and Ada Spear, both of Sheridan; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.

Lisa Townsend

EVANSTON — Graveside services for former Sheridan resident Lisa Michelle Williams Townsend, 39, of Laramie were Monday, April 16, 2001, at the Evanston City Cemetery. Arrangements were by Crandall Funeral Home of Evanston. Mrs. Townsend died Wednesday, April 11, at Rocky Mountain Care Center in Evanston from complications of multiple sclerosis. She was born March 30, 1962, in Salmon, Idaho, to Brent E. and Joan Porter Williams. She married Randy Scott Townsend Aug. 6, 1983, in Evanston.
The couple lived in Sheridan for three or four years. She worked at the University of Wyoming Agriculture Substation east of Sheridan during that time.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a Girl Scout leader. Survivors include her husband and two daughters, Cassandra and Whitney, all of Laramie; her parents, Brent and Joan Williams of Evanston; two brothers, Mark of Evanston and Ryan of Laramie; and four sisters, Brenda Barnes of Double Springs, Ala., Kari Williams of San Jose, Calif., Marie Young of New Market, Ala., and Jamie Williams of Little Rock, Ark. Funeral services for Irma A. Beld, 74, of Sheridan will be 2 p.m. Thursday, April 19, 2001, at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Revs. Kenneth Burket and Duane Maxted officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Big Horn. Viewing will be 1-7 p.m. today at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Beld died Sunday, April 15, in Johnson County Health Care Center in Buffalo. She was born Aug. 31, 1926, in Reeder, N.D., to Frederick and Minnie (Duel) Komm. She grew up in the Reeder and Hettinger, N.D., areas and attended school in Pennville, S.D. She married John H. Beld Jan. 6, 1945, in Baker, Mont. They moved to Casper in 1946 and lived in various places in Wyoming while her husband operated his own trucking company. They moved to Sheridan in 1960, and she worked at the Truck Stop Cafe, Townhouse Cafe and the Sheridan VA Medical Center kitchen until she retired in 1970. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church. She enjoyed flowers and playing the piano at home and at church. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Edwin, Marvin and Ray Komm; a grandson, William Beld; and a great-granddaughter, Sierra Lillian Blomquist. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Caddell was born March 16, 1916, in Dermott, Texas, to Marvin and Maude (White) Maples. Her mother died in 1916, and Mrs. Caddell raised her younger siblings. The family moved to Polor, Texas, in 1933, then to Snyder, Texas, in 1934. She graduated from Snyder High School in 1935. She married Woodie Caddell, and they moved to Big Timber, Mont., in 1952. They moved to Wyola, Mont., in 1954, and she worked at the Little Horn State Bank for 30 years. She then worked for the school in Wyola. They moved to Dayton in 1981 after retiring. Mrs. Caddell was past president of VFW Post 10105 Auxiliary and a trustee of the post for many years. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, reading and gardening. She was preceded in death by a stepson, Woodrow Stephen Caddell; a brother, Harold; and a sister, Zola. William Campbell

BUFFALO — William Wilson Campbell, 70, died Monday, April 16, 2001, at Sheridan County Memorial Hospital. He was father of Linda Myers of Sheridan. Visitation will be 1-10 p.m. Thursday at the Adams Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Adams Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor William Heine officiating. Burial will be in Willow Grove Cemetery with the American Legion in charge of military graveside services. Mr. Campbell was born May 9, 1930, in Buffalo to William P. and Ella Patch Campbell. He grew up in Buffalo and graduated from Johnson County High School in 1948. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy after high school and served during the Korean conflict. He married Beverly Garland Oct. 20, 1953, in Seattle. They made their home in Oak Harbor, Wash., until 1955 when they moved to Buffalo. Mr. Campbell worked for the Buffalo Police Department, then managed the American Legion Club in Buffalo until 1970. He also owned and operated his own plumbing business in Buffalo, then worked for Texaco. He was a member of the American Legion, Elks and the Congregational Church and was a recipient of the Petroleum Institute Prestigious Life Saving Award. He was preceded in death by a son. Survivors include a second daughter, Kim Norman of Buffalo; two sons, Gary of Juneau, Alaska, and Pat of Redman, Wash.; a sister, Etta Jean Byrtus of Casper; and six grandchildren.

He returned to Ten Sleep after the war, then moved to Worland. He married Joyce I. Sweet June 2, 1947, in Billings. He was preceded in death by a stepbrother, Barney Egger, and a sister, Pearl Marie Buswell. He married Myra Buckley Jan. 9, 1979, in Casper. He retired in 1985. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Fort Phil Kearny/Bozeman Trail Association and a life member of Elks Lodge #520. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, woodworking and the Denver Broncos. He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey, and daughter, Renea. Suzanne Snydal

Suzanne B. Snydal, 80, of Sheridan died Thursday, April 12, 2001, in the Sheridan VA Medical Center. A memorial service will be at a later date. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Snydal was born March 25, 1921, in Seattle to Edward and Betsy (Taylor) Brogan. She graduated from Washington High School in Portland, Ore., and attended St. Helene Junior College and the University of Oregon. She received a nursing degree from Good Samaritan Hospital and operating room training at the Honemen General Hospital in San Francisco. She enlisted in the Army and served in surgical nursing in France and Germany during World War II with the 132nd M.A.S.H. Unit stationed with the 95th Evacuation Division. She met Maxwell Snydal at Nurnberg General Hospital near the end of the war. They married Sept. 1, 1946, in Portland. They lived in Wray, Colo., for several years, then moved to Fort Morgan, Colo. Mrs. Snydal was a member of the League of Women Voters, Arturus (a women’s volunteer group) and served on the 13th Judicial Committee to evaluate judges in Colorado. Mr. Snydal died in 1976, and Mrs. Snydal moved to Sheridan in 1999 to be with her daughter. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed needlepoint, reading and music. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Suehsdorf. Survivors include a son, Chris of Boulder, Colo.; two daughters, Margo Brotherton of Sheridan and Betsy Boynton of Buffalo; and five grandchildren. The family moved to Lander in 1914, and Mrs. Seamands graduated from Fremont County Vocational High School, then attended nursing school in Manhattan, Kan. She became a registered nurse in 1922 and in that year married Isaac Wesley Seamands. They moved to Lander in 1927. She was active in the First Baptist Church, the VFW Auxiliary Barracks 2324, Old Times in Riverton and the Millcreek Homemakers Club. She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, Raymond. Survivors include a second daughter, Irene Darlington of Grand Junction, Colo.; two sons, Wesley J. and Albert L. LODGE GRASS — Edward Frank Pattyn, 71, of Lodge Grass died Tuesday, April 10, 2001, of cancer. Rosary will be recited 7 p.m. Sunday in the Bullis Funeral Chapel in Hardin. Rite of Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday at the Hardin St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Pattyn was born Oct. 2, 1929, in Lodge Grass to Charles and Sylvie Vanparys Pattyn. He grew up and attended schools in Lodge Grass. Mr. Pattyn married Lorraine Bergquist on Nov. 26, 1949, in Lodge Grass. They were married for more than 51 years. Mr. Pattyn loved the outdoors and working the soil on his farm and ranch with his John Deere tractor. He loved animals, especially dogs and horses, to see the wild flowers in the spring and to feed and watch different birds. While living on a ranch near Corinth, he taught young people to ride horses. He participated in many card parties specializing in pinochle. He enjoyed potluck parties, old time music, family dinners, gospel and country music programs. He liked to garden, work on puzzles, paint and share many beautiful bouquets of sweet peas with his friends. He was known for the beautiful willow baskets he crafted. Mr. Pattyn was a member of Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the Lodge Grass Senior Citizens. Survivors include his wife, Lorraine; three daughters, Linda Small of Lodge Grass, Della (Mike) Anderson of Ranchester, and Edna (Rocky) Nelson of Miles City; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Pattyn was preceded in death by his parents; eight brothers, Bert, Leo, Camiel, John, Pete, Albert, Frank and Morris and three sisters, Margaret Westbrook, Merie Pattyn and Aleida Lix. Glen L. Bertrand, 82, died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at Sheridan Manor Care Center in Sheridan. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. in the chapel at Trinity Lutheran Church. Mr. Bertrand was born Oct. 10, 1918, in Metropolis, Ill. to Roscoe Bertrand and Julia Harden. His family moved to Sheridan when he was an infant. Mr. Bertrand worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps as a reforester, served in the United States Navy, owned and operated a Texaco station on Main Street and ran Glen’s Trailer Court on N. Main and Trailer Village on S. Sheridan Ave. He also drove a truck for Decker Coal before retiring. He was an avid outdoorsman and 50-year member of the Sheridan Elks Lodge. He was proud to have the first Social Security Number issued in Sheridan County. Survivors include three step-daughters, Terriann Wilker, Colorado Springs; Diane Fallness, Missoula; Pamela Tultis, Orlando, Fla.; step-son John Brohard, Aspers, Pa.; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ida Barber; second spouse, Pauline Eckerman Brohard and son, William Bertrand. Memorials may be given to Sheridan Manor.

Margaret Lyman

Margaret Delores (Conley) Lyman, 84, died Thursday, April 12, 2001, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. A funeral service is 10 a.m. Monday at Kane Funeral Home with Monsignor Eugene Sullivan officiating. A rosary will precede the funeral at Kane’s. Mrs. Lyman was a resident at Sugarland Ridge Retirement and Assisted Living in Sheridan for several years prior to her death. She was born May 23, 1916, near Coleridge, Neb., the daughter of Mary Agnes (Mackey) and Michael Conley. She attended a one-room country school in Nebraska, later graduating from high school in Sioux City, Neb. She earned a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Wyoming, and also attended Wayne State Teachers College. Mrs. Lyman started her teaching career at a one-room country school, and later taught in several communities, including Riverton. Her teaching career spanned 30 years. She married Joel H. Lyman in Laramie in 1948. Mrs. Lyman enjoyed reading, keeping up on news, storytelling, Irish pranks and Sunday drives around the country with her husband. She was a member of the National Education Association, and was involved as an adult in Girl Scouts. She was a longtime member of St. Margaret’s Parish in Riverton. She is survived by her husband; three daughters, Sharon L. Kinnison, Sheridan, Margaret A. McCarty, Evergreen, Colo., and Cathy Lyman, Cheyenne; five sisters, Kate Wehrer, Wisner, Neb.,Theresa Burbach, Grand Island, Neb., Patricia LaFleur, Jefferson, S.D., Doris Ruhland, LeMars, Iowa, and Shirley Bernard, Culver City, Calif.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, stepchildren, stepgrandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by several other brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Miller was born Oct. 22, 1913, to Jesse and Helen (Wilcox) Coop in Ulm. She worked as a billing clerk at Montana-Dakota Utilities after marrying George Miller June 24, 1933, in Hardin, Mont. She enjoyed sewing, playing cards and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a member of the Wakely Homemakers Club and attended First Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband March 19, 1995; a brother, Joe Coop; and a sister, Winifred Price. In 1957, she joined the U.S. Air Force. In 1958 in Oklahoma City, she married Harold E. Cline Sr., whom she divorced. She moved to Casper in 1970 and married Lowell Stephens there. They divorced. She married Deacon Veal in Casper. In 1992, she married Jim Jeffries in Sheridan. She moved to Sheridan in 1995 and volunteered at the VA Medical Center. Survivors include five daughters, Audry Lancer of Norfolk, Va., Donna Kennedy of Mills, Carla Munk of Soda Springs, Idaho, Jacci Chaney of Casper, Holly Strother of Casper; one son, Harold E. Donald Keith Williams

CASPER — Sheridan native Donald Keith Williams, 62, of Casper died Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at the Wyoming Medical Center. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Bustard’s Funeral Home in Casper with the Rev. Brian Lombardi of the Church of Christ of Casper officiating. Military rites will be by United Veteran’s Council of Natrona County. Interment will be in the Buffalo City Cemetery at a later date. Mr. Williams was born Feb. 12, 1939, in Sheridan to Gregory Donald and Louise Mildred (Maxted) Williams. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1957, serving in active duty until 1961 as an air-traffic controller, then as a reservist. He married Nancy Karen Lynde in Gillette Feb. 14, 1965. They managed motels and restaurants in the Gillette area as well as the American Legion in Buffalo. Mrs. Williams died in 1978, and Mr. Williams moved to Midwest, where he managed the Junction Cafe. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Gregory John, and a grandson. Survivors include one daughter, Judy McGowen; two sisters, Erva Day of Sheridan and Roberta ValJean Lucas of Buffalo; and three grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established in Mr. Williams’ name at the Bustard Funeral Home and Crematory in Casper.

Charles K. “Chuck” Christianson, 59, of Gillette died Saturday, April 7, 2001, of natural causes at Campbell County Memorial Hospital. He was brother of Dayton-resident Norman Christianson. Mr. Christianson was born March 19, 1942, in Gillette to Arthur Forest and Veda (Goodrick) Christianson. He was a 1960 graduate of Campbell County High School and attended Black Hills State University in Spearfish, S.D. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He returned to Gillette after his discharge and had been employed by the U.S. Postal Service since 1994. He was preceded in death by his father. Collier Max “Monty” Montgomery, 90, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at Sheridan Manor. Mr. Montgomery was born Feb. 26, 1911, at Inola, Okla., to Charles and Kate (Collier) Montgomery. He married Ruby Davis Aug. 26, 1938 in Mayes County, Okla. He moved his family to Sheridan in July 1938. He worked for N.A. Nelson Construction Co. until 1947 and worked for Peter Kewit and retired from Big Horn Coal Co. in 1975. Mr. Montgomery was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved the Big Horn Mountains and hunted and fished all his life. He played baseball as a young man and enjoyed watching baseball and football games. Mr. Montgomery attended the First Christian Church and was a proud member of the Cherokee Indian Tribe. He is survived by his son, Max Collier Montgomery, Carson City, Nev.; his daughters, Joyce Morrison, Laramie, June Mair, Maui, Hawaii, and Jane Kolinsky, Portland, Ore.; his sisters, Flora Dooley, Sara Goodnight and Mary Stamps, all of Pryor, Okla.; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother and four sisters. William Verden Jr.

MODESTO, Calif. — William Verden Jr., 84, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001 at his home. Verden lived in Sheridan from 1918 until 1952 and returned from 1967 to 1975. Burial will be in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mr. Verden was born June 30, 1916, in Ravenna, Neb. He was a cargo pilot in the Army Air Corps from 1942-1945 and moved to Billings where he was a bus driver for Continental Trailways of Billings for 23 years. He moved to Modesto in 1975 and worked as a salesman for Self Service Furniture for 25 years. Survivors include one daughter, Sally Wax, Gig Harbor, Wash.; one son, Ben Verden, Los Angeles. He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Verden; daughter, Nancy Boe; and sister, Frances Brouillette formerly of Sheridan. Marjorie V. Williams

BUFFALO — Marjorie V. Williams, 66, died Thursday, April 5, 2001 at her residence. Visitation is Monday from 1-10 p.m. at Adams Funeral Home in Buffalo. Mrs. Williams was born Aug. 18, 1934 in Buffalo to Ernest and Vedda Young. Ernest died in 1937 and Vedda married John D. “Pete” Balden in 1940. Balden adopted Marjorie. Mrs. Williams married Dennis Firth in June 1952 at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Sheridan. The couple lived in Sheridan where Firth worked as a truck driver. Mrs. Williams married Alfred Williams on April 6, 1968 in Reno, Nev. The couple lived in California for 25 years and then retired in Buffalo. Mrs. Williams enjoyed doing crafts, sewing, attending bingo and going to early morning garage sales. Survivors include three sons, Don Firth, Chehalis, Wash., Mike Firth, Redding, Calif. and John Douglas, Shreveport, La.; two daughters, Carrie Firth, Buffalo, and Jana Simpson, Yelm, Wash.; one sister, Jean Burger, Buffalo, and 14 grandchildren. Tom Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Hope Cemetery. Mr. Kovar was born July 3, 1913, at Flasher, N.D., to Adolph and Myrtle (Hewit) Kovar. He farmed and was a trucker while living in North Dakota. He married Minnie L. Linde July 20, 1933, at St. Anthony, N.D. They moved to Rapid City in 1953, to Buffalo in 1973, and to Newell in 1997. Survivors include two additional sons, Neil of Newell and Raymond of Buffalo; one daughter, Florence of Buffalo; one brother, Bud, Flasher; one sister, Bonnie Brilz, Bismarck, N.D.; 14 grandchildren; 29 grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, two sisters, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Warren William Camplin II

COUPEVILLE, Wash. — Warren William Camplin II, 84, former longtime Sheridan resident of Oak Harbor, Wash., died at a nursing home here Monday, April 2, 2001. A memorial service was today in Oak Harbor. Private inurnment will take place at a later date. Mr. Camplin was born July 12, 1916, to Warren William Camplin and Betsy Elizabeth (O’Neil) Camplin. As a young child, he moved with his family to Sheridan and attended Linden School. He moved with his parents to California, where he graduated from high school. He became a sales representative and supervisor for the Filter Queen Co., and then started his own Kirby franchise. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. He earned the Purple Heart, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, the American Theater Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal. He reached the rank of sergeant. The family moved to Oak Harbor in 1978. In Sheridan he was a member of Mile Shrine, Moose Lodge, and St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. He also served as Sheridan Chamber of Commerce committee member and belonged to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Mt. Vernon and St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Oak Harbor. Mr. Reno was born Sept. 29, 1929, in Sheridan to Floyd and Harriet (Putnam) Reno. He began his education at the Dogie Butte School and later attended schools in Sheridan and Gillette. He was a 1949 graduate of St. John's Military Academy in Delafield, Wis. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, working in the motor pool and as a medic at Pousson. He married Eda Jewell Johnson Aug. 17, 1954, in Dupree, S.D. They ranched south of Gillette, and he operated Teapot Pumping Services. A brother, Harry B. Reno, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife of Gillette; four children, Floyd Reno III and Eda Reno, both of Gillette, Teckla Lohof of Big Horn and Teresa Turner of Lewisville, Texas; and five grandchildren. Willis Pattinson

Former Sheridan resident Willis "Dale" Pattinson, 69, of Spearfish, S.D., died March 31 at his home. No services will be held at his request. Cremation has taken place. Private interment will be later at Green Mountain Cemetery in Sundance with the Rev. Kerry Prendiville officiating. Carlsen & Aldinger Funeral Home of Spearfish is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Pattinson was born Aug. 25, 1931, in Sundance to Effie Estelle Hauer Pattinson and Ernest William Pattinson. He attended school in Aladdin, Alva and Sundance. He married Alice Lorraine Larive on April 14, 1950. He drove a logging truck for Tongue River Logging in Sheridan from 1971-73. He was a member of the Sheridan Elks Lodge #520. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Spearfish and a longtime member of the National Rifle Association. He worked on ranches in Crook County during his teen years. He was employed by C. D. Roberts Construction Co. in Sundance in 1950 and participated in building the face of Keyhole Dam. He moved to Gillette in 1974 and worked for Amax Coal Co. until he retired in 1994. Survivors include his wife, of Spearfish; a daughter, Sheryl Alice Howell of Sheridan; a son, Michael "Mick" Dale Pattinson of North Logan, Utah; his stepfather, Jesse Janes of Spearfish; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Sheridan-native Edward "Eddie" Legerski, 76, of Casper died March 31 at the Life Care Center. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Casper with Father Philip Colibraro officiating. Burial will be in Oregon Trail Veterans Cemetery in Evansville following military honors by the Natrona County United Veterans Council. Mr. Legerski was born March 24, 1925, in Sheridan to John and Julia (Antoniow) Legerski. He grew up in Sheridan and was a sergeant in the Army during World War II, serving in central Europe, the Rhineland and Ardennes. He was a prisoner of war. He received the European African Middle Eastern Medal with three bronze stars, the American Theater medal, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal. He married Kathleen Leo Dec. 29, 1950, in Hardin, Mont. They moved to Casper in 1951. He was employed by Amoco Refinery 32 years. He was a member of Our Lady Fatima Catholic Church and the VFW Post 14000. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Rudy and Joe Legerski. Survivors include his wife of Casper; a daughter, Diane Fink of Casper; three sisters, Julia Yazosky of Sheridan, Mary Haratyk of Boise, Idaho, and Alma Kilmax of Dixon, Tenn.; five brothers, John, Walter and Louis Legerski, all of Sheridan, Andy Legerski of Casper and William Legerski of Wheatland; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Jess Ellis

Sheridan-native Jess Ellis, 82, of Glenrock died March 27 at his home. Services will be at a later date at Custer Battlefield National Monument Cemetery in Montana. Mr. Ellis was born March 26, 1919, in Sheridan to Jesse L. and Vera G. (Range) Ellis. He grew up in Sheridan. He later joined the Civilian Conservation Corps. He served in the Army during World War II and was discharged with the rank of warrant officer. He received the Bronze Star, Asiatic Pacific Medal, American Campaign Medal and WWII Victory Medal. He married Ada B. Gleason in Buffalo in 1937. They were later divorced. He married Kathleen L. Thompson in Hardin, Mont., in 1947. She died. He married Jo Fitzhugh in Sheridan in 1985. They lived in Decker, Mont., and moved to Glenrock in 1990. He worked on the Shoshoni Dam with the Peter Kiewit Construction Co. and was a diesel-equipment specialist with the U.S. Army 20 years. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #520 in Sheridan and American Legion Post 8 in Douglas. He was preceded in death by a brother, LeRoy. Survivors include his wife, of Glenrock; two sons, Jerry of Aurora, Colo., and Rocke of Castle Pines, Colo.; two stepdaughters, Peggy Anderson of Sheridan and Linda Anderson of Glenrock; a sister, Betty Smart of Redvale, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren.

William L. Barlow, 64, of rural Gillette, died March 29 at his ranch. Mr. Barlow was born Oct. 1, 1936, in Sheridan to Lewis C. and Marion (Heald) Barlow. He was raised on the family ranch on Deadhorse Creek, west of Gillette, and attended school through eighth grade in a one-room schoolhouse in the yard of the ranch house. He graduated from Campbell County High School and earned a degree in agriculture from the University of Wyoming. He spent two years working in Southeast Asia, where he met Bernadette “Bernie” Clairon. She returned with him to the United States and they married May 28, 1963, in Rapid City. They lived in Moorcroft for a year, where Mr. Barlow taught school. They returned to the family ranch in 1964. He enjoyed archeology and history, served in the Wyoming National Guard and was a member of the boards of directors of the Campbell County Senior Citizens Center and the Rockpile Museum. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife of Gillette; a son, Eric of Gillette; two daughters, Michele Barlow of Gillette and Nicole Barlow of Missoula, Mont.; two sisters, Rosemary Schunk of Sheridan and Edith Humann of Renton, Wash.; and two grandchildren. She was employed as an elementary teacher for the Winnebago County School District 35 years. After retirement she assisted her husband pastoring a Foursquare church in Thorp, Wis. Ann (Shaw) Tobey. She was a registered licensed professional nurse. She worked for the Laramie Police Department until she moved to Sheridan in 1995, where she worked as an LPN until she returned to Laramie last July. She was the close friend of Jack Gore of Laramie. Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Ann and Sam Evans, and father, Gene Tobey, all of Laramie; two daughters, Jodee Bennett of Erie, Colo., and Jessee Parker of Laramie; a son, Joe Hurtado of Firestone, Colo.; a brother, Bob Tobey of Manhattan, Mont.; three sisters, Sheryl Glover of St. George, Utah, Alicia Morgan of Laramie and Judee Sandman of Grand Island, Neb.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
