Gerhard Bahnsen
Gerhard Gary Bahnsen, 71, of Sheridan died Wednesday, April 28, 2004, at his residence. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Arthur Maendl officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Bahnsen was born June 25, 1932, in Grand Island, Neb., to Gay and Jessie (Sundermeier) Bahnsen. He was a 1948 graduate of El Sereno (Calif.) High School and served four years in the U.S. Air Force. He was a deputy for 12 years in the Kern County, Calif., Sheriff's Department, then spent eight years instructing law enforcement officers throughout the United States in use of a copyrighted evidence system he developed. Mr. Bahnsen also invented and manufactured two evidence cameras. He was supervisor for 10 years of the Crime Prevention Unit of the Bakersfield, Calif., Police Department. He retired to Sheridan in 1995. He wrote novels of the early West and painted. The first of his five books has been published. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and belonged to Church of the Nazarene. He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy, and a granddaughter. Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Jessie and John Carroll of Long Beach, Calif.; two sons, Dennis of Reno, Nev., and Darren of Martinez, Calif.; two daughters, Debrah Doyle of Gardnerville, Nev., and Dee Bahnsen of Roundup, Mont.; a brother, Raymond Buis of La Puente, Calif.; a sister, Patricia Delaney of St. David, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Richard M. O'Hare
Richard Michael O'Hare, 57, of Dayton died Thursday, April 29, 2004, in St. Vincent's Medical Center in Billings, according to his wife. A celebration of his life will be 2 p.m. Sunday on the lawn of the San Benito Monastery of the Benedictine Sisters in Dayton with the Rev. Bill Halvey officiating. Mr. O'Hare was born March 26, 1947, in Sioux Falls, S.D., to Wilfred Thomas Bud and Dolores Dolly O'Hare. He was a 1965 graduate of Central Catholic High School in Great Falls, Mont., and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in French from Carroll College in Helena, Mont., in 1969 and a master's degree in educational counseling from the University of Montana in 1984. He served in the U.S. Army as an interrogator in Korea from 1970-72. He married Merry Lu Rasmussen June 26, 1977, at Bitterroot Lake, Mont. He taught in Australia (1973-75), Havre, Mont. (1975-77), McAllen, Texas (1977-79), and Tokyo (1980-81). The family moved to Missoula, Mont., where he attended graduate school in 1981-82, then to Dayton, where he taught for the last 21 years at Tongue River High School. Mr. O'Hare was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed spending summers with his family at their homestead on the North Fork of the Flathead River in Montana. He was preceded in death by his father. Survivors include his wife; a son, Scott of Polebridge, Mont.; a daughter, Aminda of Dayton; his mother, of Great Falls; two brothers, Tim of Lutz, Fla., and Jim of Spokane, Wash.; six sisters, Maureen Lauden of New Orleans, Deb Parchen and Peg O'Hare, both of Great Falls, Mary Kay Dobson of Durango, Colo., Julie Elwell of Overland Park, Kan., and Patty O'Hare of Georgetown, Calif.; and one grandson.
Earl Murdock
Sheridan County native Gerald Earl Murdock, 89, of Buffalo died Tuesday, April 27, 2004, at Sheridan Manor. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today in Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo with the Rev. Glen Wessel officiating. Visitation is until 1 p.m. today. Burial will be in Willow Grove Cemetery in Buffalo with graveside services. Mr. Murdock was born Nov. 22, 1914, in Banner to Lawrence and Maude Croghan. He grew up and attended schools in Big Horn, Sheridan and Buffalo. He was a 1932 graduate of Johnson County High School. After high school, he worked with his parents on a ranch east of Buffalo. He worked in the shipyards in Washington state during World War II. He later was auto sales manager for S.L. Savage Chrysler dealership in Seattle and attended college in Seattle for two years. He married Kathryn Still in April 1935 in Hardin, Mont., and they made their home on the ranch east of Buffalo until 1957, when the moved to Lovell. Mr. Murdock owned and operated Murdock Equipment. They moved to Billings in 1964, and he taught in a vo-tech school and owned Rite-way Postal. He retired in 1975 and moved to Buffalo. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, Odd Fellows and Anchor Lodge No. 7 AF and AM and Buffalo Rotary Club. He enjoyed fishing, bowling and golf. He was preceded in death by a sister. Survivors include his wife, of Buffalo; two sons, Jack of Buffalo and Dr. Gerald Murdock Jr. of Mamou, La.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Wesleyan Church Building Fund in care of the funeral home.

Ronald P. Germann
Ronald P. Germann, 80, died Tuesday, April 27, 2004, at his Sheridan residence. Public viewing is 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Kane Funeral Home. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, Pastor Wilbur Holz officiating. Born Oct. 4, 1923, in Jackson to Walter and Pearl (Thacker) Germann, he grew up in Moran and moved to Sheridan in 1940. He finished high school and then worked for Birney Freight Lines and Germann Gas Service. He married Elsie Burr on Dec. 7, 1957, in Sheridan. In 1977 they opened Ron's L.P. Gas Service, retiring in 1994. They wintered in Yuma, Ariz., and spent a few summers in Alaska and Canada. Mr. Germann enjoyed boating, waterskiing, fishing, hunting, shooting, playing cards, and especially spending time with his family. A lifetime member of Sheridan County Sportsmen's Association, National Rifle Association, and Elks Club, he also belonged to Arizona Old Time Fiddlers Association. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Larry of Sheridan and Gary of Gillette; a daughter, Wanda Ans of Billings; a brother, Oliver Germann of Buffalo; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Memorials may benefit Hospice of the Big Horns in care of Kay Roush, First Federal Savings Bank, P.O. Box 6007, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Elizabeth Betty Morton, 78, of Sheridan died Friday, April 23, 2004, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Kane Funeral Home with Hayden Porter officiating. Mrs. Morton was born Aug. 30, 1925, in Eden Valley, Minn., to Louis and Elda (Wendling) Gorr. After graduating from high school, she married Clarence Morton Dec. 15, 1945, in Miles City, Mont. They lived in Hardin, Mont., and Decker, Mont., before moving to Buffalo in 1976. They retired to the Sheridan area. Mrs. Morton worked at the Stockman Cafe in Hardin, the bar at Decker, apartments in Buffalo, then Kmart in Sheridan until she fully retired in 1995. She was preceded in death by her husband. Survivors include three sons, Ronald of Billings, Raymond of Sheridan and Rodney of Omaha, Neb.; two daughters, Barbara Clift of Marysville, Calif., and Betty Kilmer of Auburn, Wash.; three sisters, Pearl Anderson of Onamia, Minn., Sally Stramn of Miles City and Darlene Steir of Minnesota; a brother, Robert Gorr of Minnesota; 13 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. Lifelong Dayton resident James Lee Ventling, 68, died Friday, April 23, 2004, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital after a long illness. A private memorial service will be at a later date. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Ventling worked as a carpenter for Grove Burger Lumber Co. and later for Peter Kiewit and Sons Mining. He was a lifetime member of Sheridan Elks Lodge 520 and a member of the United Mine Workers of America. He enjoyed gardening and the Big Horn Mountains. Survivors include a son, Rodney, and a brother, Delbert, both of Sheridan; and two sisters, Ester Boyko of Sheridan and Rose Dorothy of Forsyth, Mont.

Robert W. Randall, 82, of Sheridan died Wednesday, April 21, 2004, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Don Derryberry officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic No. 43 section of Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with military honors by John Donald Garbutt American Legion Post 7 and the Wyoming National Guard. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Randall was born Sept. 2, 1921, to Fred and Perle (Hill) Randall on the family homestead north of Sheridan. He grew up in the Sheridan area and was a 1939 graduate of Sheridan High School. He enlisted in the Army and was sent to Fort Lewis, Wash. He served in the Pacific Theater in World War II, including the Philippines, and watched the signing of the Japanese surrender on the USS Missouri on Sept. 2, 1945, from the shores of Tokyo Bay. He returned to Sheridan and worked as a carpenter for various construction companies including Nelson Construction Co. and Randall Construction Co. He retired in 1984 and received a 50-year pin from the Carpenter's Union headquartered in Casper. He married Anna L. Kester Jan. 13, 1946, in Sheridan. In addition to the Carpenter's Union, he was a member of First United Methodist Church in Sheridan, Big Horn Mountain Masonic Lodge 43 and Elks Lodge 520. He owned apartments in Sheridan and enjoyed working on them. He enjoyed trips to his wife's family ranch on Ash Creek, repairing fence on the ranch, being around the cattle, fishing and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his wife, four brothers and a sister. Survivors include a son, Gregg of Powell; a daughter, Deborah Saunders of Houston; and four grandchildren. Eric Dean Pehringer, 35, of Buffalo died Wednesday, April 21, 2004, at the Christensen Mine east of Buffalo. He was brother of Milo Pehringer of Sheridan. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Glen Wessel officiating. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Willow Grove Cemetery. Mr. Pehringer was born Oct. 9, 1968, in Buffalo to Carl and Sharon Pehringer. He grew up in Buffalo and was a 1987 graduate of Johnson County High School. He worked on various construction jobs and joined the National Guard, receiving his basic training in Mississippi. He married Amanda Alberding June 23, 2002, in Buffalo. Mr. Pehringer had worked the past few years at the Irrigary Mine east of Buffalo. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his mother. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Adam and Jason, both of Buffalo; his father of Buffalo; three other brothers, Allen, Scott and Gary, all of Buffalo; four sisters, Tammy Walker of Plattsmouth, Neb., and Penny Pehringer, Candy Pehringer and Erin Hansen, all of Buffalo; and grandparents Ellen and Bob Fitzpatrick of Buffalo.

Sheridan native Warren Dale Ellsworth, 79, of Mount Vernon, Wash., died Wednesday, March 31, 2004, at his residence. He was brother of Arline Wood of Sheridan. A memorial service took place April 8 in Mount Vernon. Mr. Ellsworth was born June 11, 1924, in Sheridan to Jess M. and Rose E. Ellsworth. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy Oct. 27, 1941, and served 30 years. During World War II he flew convoy patrol aircraft from the coast of North and South America to Morocco and Africa. He was attached to patrol squadron 22 in the Pacific during the Korean conflict and to patrol squadron 17 during the Vietnam War. He married Ruth E. Moore Aug. 11, 1945, in Mountain View, Calif. After retiring from the Navy, he was secretary-manager of the Mount Vernon Elks Lodge, then operated his own restaurants for several years. He was a past master of the Burlington Masonic Lodge No. 254, a past worthy patron of Holly Chapter 199, Order of the Eastern Star, and member of the Shrine Nile Temple of Seattle and other Masonic and Shrine organizations. He was also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1585, the National Rifle Association, the Fleet Reserve Association and the Retired Chief Petty Officers Association. In addition to his sister, survivors include his wife; two sons, Gary of Keller, Texas, and Steve of Arlington, Texas; two daughters, Gail Dahl and Sue Stolpe, both of Mount Vernon; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children in care of the Shrine.

Annette Ann Marie (Lawrence) Stouffer, 56, Gillette, died Saturday, April 17, 2004, at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper following a short fight with cancer. She was mother of Scott Allen Stouffer of Sheridan. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Cremation has taken place. Mrs. Stouffer was born Sept. 13, 1947, in Sparta, Wis., to Durward G. Lawrence and Elda May (Wallace) Lawrence. She grew up in Tomah, Wis., and was a 1965 graduate of Tomah High School. She married Jerold J. Stouffer Nov. 26, 1966, in Sparta. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Casper, where Mrs. Stouffer worked at One Hour Martinizing while Mr. Stouffer worked at the Uranium Mine in Glenrock. The family moved to Gillette in 1979. In Gillette, Mrs. Stouffer was historian and member of American Legion Post 42 and a member of Eagles Aerie 2711. She enjoyed the outdoors and going camping and fishing with her family and friends. Her favorite football team was the Green Bay Packers, and she was a fan of Elvis Presley, collecting his music and memorabilia. Her hobbies included cooking, travel, playing darts, needle craft on plastic canvas, gardening and growing houseplants. In addition to her son, survivors include her husband; two daughters, Lori Ann Abelseth of Casper and Janel Marie Lancaster of Phoenix; her parents of Tomah; two brothers, Dan Albrecht and Tim Lawrence, both of Tomah; and five grandchildren. Former Sheridan resident William E. Wood, 83, of Beaverton, Ore., died Friday, April 16, 2004, in Beaverton. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Willamette National Cemetery. Arrangements are with Pegg, Paxson & Springer Chapel. Mr. Wood was born Sept. 6, 1920, in Vail, S.D. He married Dorotha Sluder in 1953. She died in 1995. He lived in Sheridan about 30 years and had lived in Beaverton 44 years. Mr. Wood was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the horse cavalry and as a Pathfinder paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division. He took part in the invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. He was also a veteran of the Korean conflict. While in Sheridan, he was in the 115th Horse Cavalry and the Wyoming National Guard. Survivors include two daughters, Charyl Wood of Portland, Ore., and Charlene Mann of San Francisco; a stepdaughter, Margee Muheim of Loveland, Colo.; two sons, Don Baldwin of Aloha, Ore., and Larry Baldwin of Rhododendron, Ore.; two sisters, Mary Alice Braz of California and Nancy of Las Vegas; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Longtime Big Horn resident Margaret Derrickson Logan, 92, died Friday, April 16, 2004, in Cheyenne. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with the Rev. David Duprey officiating. A luncheon at the Big Horn Woman's Club will follow the service. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Logan was born Feb. 8, 1912, at the family ranch near Aladdin to Albert and Christina Derrickson. She was a graduate of Belle Fourche (S.D.) High School and the University of Wyoming, where she received a bachelor's degree in English education in 1936 and a master's degree in guidance and counseling in 1966. She married Francis Lloyd Logan Jan. 31, 1942, in Hardin, Mont. She was a classroom teacher, school principal, guidance counselor and a partner in ownership and operation of the Rafter 33 Cattle Co. at Big Horn. She also was an author and editor of poetry and a watercolor artist. She belonged to Big Horn Woman's Club, Big Horn City Historical Society and the Wyoming Writers Group. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1993, two sisters and a brother. Survivors include two sons, Thomas W. of Cheyenne and Francis T. of Rapid City. Memorials may be made to Big Horn City Historical Society or Big Horn Woman's Club.

Sheridan native Roger Michael Pitet, 64, of Billings died Tuesday, April 13, 2004, at his residence. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. David Duprey officiating. Mr. Pitet was born March 27, 1940, in Sheridan to Dr. Marcel R. and Monica (Noonan) Pitet. He was a 1953 graduate of Holy Name School and graduated in 1958 from Billings Central High School. He obtained Bachelor of Arts and master's degrees in English and history at San Francisco State College. He taught at Eastern Montana College in Billings and in the San Mateo School District in California for many years. He retired in 1996 and returned to Billings. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary, and a brother, Mickey. Survivors include two brothers, Larry of Sheridan and Patrick of Cody; a sister, Michelle Pitet Rosenthal of Sheridan; and several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the Sheridan or Billings animal shelters or to a charity of the donor's choice, in care of Karen Green, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801.
BUFFALO Mike Menas, 50, of Buffalo died in a motorcycle accident 10 miles north of Buffalo early Sunday, April 18, 2004. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Adams Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Su DeBree officiating. Visitation will be 1-10 p.m. Tuesday and 8-9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Additional services will be later this week in Farmington, W.Va., with burial in West Virginia.
Former Sheridan resident Russell Ray Walston Jr., 44, of Gillette died Wednesday, April 14, 2004, of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Sheridan. Funeral services were this morning at Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home in Gillette with burial in the Mount Pisgah Cemetery. Mr. Walston was born May 1, 1959, to Russell Ray Walston Sr. and Helen Joann (Loysey) Walston in Denver. He moved to Sheridan in the mid-1980s, then to Gillette in the early 1990s where he worked in area oil fields. He was doing maintenance for Naxus Apartment Buildings at the time of his death. He enjoyed fishing and being outdoors. Survivors include his adoptive family, Ulysses and Deb Riley of Gillette.

Daniel Cody Dan Knighten, 65, of Sheridan died Thursday, April 15, 2004, in Sheridan VA Medical Center. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo with Pastor Mike Morrison officiating. Visitation will be 1-10 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel. Graveside services will be in Willow Grove Cemetery with the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion in charge. Mr. Knighten was born June 12, 1938, in Edgerton to Dallas and Martha Knighten. He grew up in Buffalo and Kaycee and attended Johnson County High School. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1956 and served in Greenland and the Philippine Islands. He received an honorable discharge in 1960 and went to work for the Wyoming Highway Department. He married Karen Bridwell in 1960 in Gillette, and worked in the oil fields as a pumper. The family moved to Midwest for five years before returning to Gillette. They moved to a horse ranch in Rosette in 1974, then to Worland in 1985, where Mr. Knighten was an oil and gas supervisor. He retired in 1989, and the couple moved to Palmer, Alaska. Mrs. Knighten was killed in an automobile accident in December 1998. Mr. Knighten moved to Sheridan in 2001. Following a stroke, he became a resident of Sheridan Manor Care Facility in September 2001. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, a sister and an infant granddaughter. Former Sheridan resident Dagmar Jensen, 92, died Tuesday, April 13, 2004, at Heritage Place in Bountiful, Utah. Private graveside services will be Friday in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Jensen was born Oct. 18, 1911, in Froid, Mont. She and her husband, Pete, lived in Sheridan for more than 50 years. Mrs. Jensen was organist for Trinity Lutheran Church for 35 years. She was a master gardener and owned Jensen's Nursery on Big Goose. She was preceded in death by her husband and one son, Roger. Wilhamina A. Francescato, 89, of Dayton died Monday, March 29, 2004, in Sheridan's Westview Health Care Center. Cremation has taken place, and memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Dayton Community Church with Pastor Robert A. Logan officiating. Inurnment will be 2 p.m. May 29 in Harrison Cemetery in Harrison, Neb. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Mrs. Francescato was born March 15, 1915, in Bodarc Community near Harrison to Millard and Caroline (Leeling) Thayer. She attended school through the ninth grade, then helped on the family farm. She married Alfred Pullen in 1933. He died in 1961, and she later married Pete Francescato. Mr. Francescato preceded her in death. She worked as a waitress for many years, owning and operating a cafe in Harrison for a short time. She was a 4-H leader in Sioux County, Neb. She enjoyed homemaking and being with her family, gardening, sewing, crocheting, quilting and handicraft. She was a member of the Women's Society of Christian Services at Harrison Methodist Church and the Sioux County Extension Club. She also belonged to Dayton Benefit Club and was a longtime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary until the Dayton unit was disbanded. In addition to her two husbands, she was preceded in death by eight siblings, a grandson and a great-granddaughter. Survivors include five daughters, Delores Briscoe of Sheridan and Dayton, LaDonna Foley of Dayton, Bertha Farrington of Torrington, Caroline Riggs of Parkman and Betty Murray of Alliance, Neb.; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Yazosky was born Feb. 15, 1921, in Ranchester to John and Julia (Antonio) Legerski. She grew up and attended school in Big Horn and worked on a farm on Cruz Creek. She married Hendry Yazosky July 7, 1940, in Sheridan. The couple lived in New York, Alaska and New Mexico before Mrs. Yazosky returned to Wyoming in the 1950s. She was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church and enjoyed dancing and playing bingo. She was preceded in death by three brothers. Survivors include five brothers, John, Walter and Louis, all of Sheridan, William of Wheatland and Andy of Casper; two sisters, Mary Haratyk of Boise, Idaho, and Alma Kilmarx of Dickson, Tenn.; and numerous nieces and nephews. George J. Buszkiewic, 80, of Ash Creek died Friday, April 9, 2004, at his residence after a long battle with cancer. Bill Halvey officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mr. Buszkiewic was born March 17, 1924, in Monarch to Ignace and Anna (Mates) Buszkiewic of Ash Creek. He attended Ash Creek Country School and graduated from Sheridan High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked for Big Horn Coal from 1947-82, when he retired as a welder and tipple operator. He married Rose M. Legerski Sept. 28, 1947, in St. Thomas Church in Monarch. They resided on the family ranch on Ash Creek. Mr. Buszkiewic enjoyed spending time with his pets and animals, watching wildlife, repairing equipment in his shop and working on various projects. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and tending his garden. He shared his produce with family and friends. He was a member of United Mine Workers Association Local 2055, serving as president for nine years, and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of St. Edmund's Church in Ranchester. He was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Legerski. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Linda Vanatta of Ash Creek; a son, George E. of Sheridan; a brother, John of Upper Prairie Dog Road; three step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. He graduated from Natrona County High School in Casper and joined the Air Force. He married Bertha May Rossignol in 1953 in St. Thomas Rectory in Milo, Maine. He enjoyed rock-hunting, silversmithing and creating unique pieces of jewelry. He made his final piece of jewelry, a pendant of picture jasper embellished with silver swirls and flowers, for his wife a few weeks before his death. He also enjoyed visiting garage sales and spending time with his Pekingese, Knute. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Orvil; a sister, Thelma Potter; and two grandchildren. She was a nursing assistant at Sheridan and Johnson County memorial hospitals and was a housemother at the Wyoming Girls School before opening Juanita's Barber Shop. She was the first female barber in Sheridan. She enjoyed barbering, painting, fishing, dancing, music, flowers in the mountains and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and one grandson. Survivors include a son, Durwin of St. Louis; four daughters, Cheryl Robertson of Tracy, Calif., and Rhonda Hoyt, Lynnette Vinke and Marla Vinke, all of Sheridan; a brother, James W. Phyllis Darlene Todd Sundberg, 76, of Bridger, Mont., died Friday, March 26, 2004, in St. John's Home in Billings. She was mother of Dorcas Cassie Sundberg Murphy of Sheridan. A gathering of friends and family took place March 29 at Dahl Funeral Home in Billings. Funeral service and celebration of Mrs. Sundberg's life were March 30 at St. James Lutheran Church in Columbus, Mont., with Pastor Michael O'Hearn officiating. Burial was in Sunset Hills Cemetery in Bozeman, Mont. Mrs. Sundberg was born June 24, 1927, in Bozeman to Thomas Bayard and Erma Louisa King Todd. She grew up and attended schools in Gallatin Gateway and Bozeman. She was a graduate of Gallatin County High School, Montana State College/University and the University of Washington. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in home economics. She married Vernon Percy Sundberg Dec. 22, 1950, in Bozeman. They resided in Hamilton, Mont., where Mr. Sundberg worked for the U.S. Soil Conservation Service. They moved to Columbus, Mont., in 1955, then to Bridger in 1967. Mrs. Sundberg was a registered dietitian at the University of Washington in Seattle and the University of Montana in Missoula from 1950 until 1977. She later worked at the Stillwater Hospital and Nursing Homes in Columbus and Red Lodge, Mont. She was librarian at the Bridger Public Library from 1973-92. She served a four-year term on the Montana State Library Advisory Council. She did volunteer work for many groups and projects including the Billings Association of the Family and Consumer Sciences, the Gallatin, Carbon, Big Horn and Stillwater county historical societies, Yellowstone Audubon, Yellowstone Corral of Westerners, Yellowstone Genealogy Forum, the Sons and Daughters of Pioneers of Gallatin County, Mount Hylite Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Rimrock Harness Club, Bridger Golden Age Society and St. James Lutheran Church. She enjoyed reading, studying history and genealogy, tole painting, designing quilts, and working in her flower and vegetable garden. Survivors include her husband; two other daughters, Vona Sundberg of Kalispell, Mont., and Debra Sundberg of Billings; two sons, Lance of Columbus and Randy of Baltic, Conn.; and seven grandchildren. Sheridan native Pete Sears, 51, of Casper died Wednesday, March 31, 2004, at his residence. Cremation has taken place. Services were Friday at Word Christian Fellowship in Casper. Newcomer Family Funeral Home and Crematory was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Sears was born June 7, 1952, in Sheridan to George Isaiah and Betty Lou (Good) Sears. He grew up and attended school in Sheridan, graduating from Sheridan High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1976. He was honorably discharged. He served 21 years with Army National Guard as a cook in Sheridan. He worked for UPS for 27 years, the last six in Casper. He married Loree Carl on Jan. 19, 1996, in Sheridan. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hiking, hunting, photography, car races, bird-watching, his animals and quiet time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife; four sons, Tim Sears and Josh Hando, both of Sheridan, and Jake Sears and Joseph Leatherberry, both of Casper; a daughter, Jessie Mayo of Casper; two brothers, Chris of Mesa, Ariz., and Dan of Sheridan; a sister, Georgeanne Sears of Sheridan; and two granddaughters. Sheridan native Alex Nayes, 72, of Forsyth, Mont., died Sunday, April 4, 2004, at his residence. Visitation will be 1-4 p.m. Thursday in the Chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Forsyth. Family and friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. at the chapel. Mr. Nayes was born Aug. 11, 1931, in Sheridan to Chet and Mildred Sug (Powers) Nayes. The family moved to Wyola, Mont., when he was 7. He was a 1950 graduate of high school in Lodge Grass, Mont. He attended Rocky Mountain College and played football for the Battlin' Bears. He married Paula Farman Aug. 9, 1967, in Buffalo. They resided on his family's ranch in Wyola until his semiretirement in 1993, when the family moved to Forsyth. Mr. Nayes continued to help his son with the ranch. Mr. Nayes was a Bighorn County commissioner from 1967-74. He was involved in the development and operation of the Bozeman (Mont.) Trail Irrigation Ditch Corp. in Bighorn county. He enjoyed his family, ranch life, being outdoors with his animals, playing cards with his grandchildren and playing golf at the country club. Helen K. Sears, 91, of Sheridan died Saturday, April 3, 2004, in Westview Health Care Center. Cremation has taken place, and no services are planned. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Sears was born July 11, 1912, in Chicago to Theodore and Eline (Erickson) Carlstron. She grew up and attended schools in Santa Barbara, Calif., and was a graduate of Santa Barbara High School. She moved to Sweden until after World War II, when she returned to the United States. She lived in Los Angeles and Seattle. She married Melvin R. Sears Sept. 16, 1956, in Las Vegas. Mr. Sears died in 1984. Mrs. Sears moved to Sheridan in 1985. Survivors include a son, Eric Carlstron of Austin, Texas; a stepson, Doug Sears of Kent, Wash.; two stepdaughters, Caroline Sears of Kent and Linda Baldwin of Los Angeles; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

John Joseph Jack Lewis, 84, of Meeteetse died Wednesday, March 31, 2004, in Powell. He was father and brother to several Sheridan area residents. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Meeteetse. Burial of cremains will be in Meeteetse Cemetery. Arrangements are with Ballard Funeral Home. Mr. Lewis was born May 28, 1919, in Rifle, Colo., to Harry W. and Pauline A. (Clardy) Lewis. He married Calla Gene Kurtz Aug. 11, 1940, in Sheridan. He was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, American Legion Post 85 and the National Rifle Association and was a 32nd Degree Mason. He was a cowboy all his life, and worked as logger, sheep shearer, horse breaker and shoer, and carpenter. He joined the Army and served in World War II as a mule trainer. He learned leather craft and saddle-making after his discharge from the Army. He worked in the oil fields in Linch, Thermopolis and Meeteetse and in 1982 bought Wyoming Well Service. He incorporated the business as Lewis and Sons. He sold the company in 1987. He enjoyed skiing, fishing, camping, working in his saddle shop and family gatherings. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bob and Ralph, and a sister, Jenny Moyer. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Denny of Meeteetse and Joe of Sheridan; two daughters, Becky Bennett of Meeteetse and Nancy Dearcorn of Dayton; three sisters, Betty Conner, Jo Smith and Jane Durkee, all of Sheridan; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Wilbur Huggins, 89, Story, died Friday, April 2, 2004, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Kane Funeral Home, Paddy Bard officiating, with burial in Quiet Rest Cemetery near Fort Phil Kearny. Born Nov. 24, 1914, in Story to James W. and Mary Blanche Huggins, he attended school in Story and went to work for the Wyoming Game and Fish Department fish hatchery system in 1931. Mr. Huggins worked at and supervised several fish hatcheries in the state, retiring in 1979. He married Ada Chesney Williams on Sept. 10, 1938, in Banner. He served in the Army from 1943 to 1946. From 1944 to 1946 he was a combat infantry noncommissioned officer in Europe. He received battle stars for Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland Central Europe and the following citations: European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, World War II Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Citation, Rifle Combat Badge, and Expert Rifle and Carbine Badge. He was a life member of Sheridan Elks Lodge 520 and charter member of Story Lions Club. Four brothers and three sisters preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mary Peterson and Sally Johnson, both of Story; a sister, Jean Lunbeck, Story; two granddaughters; and a great-grandson. Sheridan County native Mike H. Juroshek, 84, of McCleary, Wash., died Wednesday, March 31, 2004, in Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, Wash. A memorial service will be today at Grace Community Church in Elma, Wash. A reception will follow the service. Arrangements are with Whiteside Family Mortuary in Elma. Mr. Juroshek was born Nov. 25, 1919, in Acme to Joe and Anna Juroshek. He lived in Acme until he joined the U.S. Air Force just after Pearl Harbor. He served for nearly four years, including three years in the South Pacific. He was a crew chief on the B-25 bomber. Mr. Juroshek returned to Wyoming after the service. He married Evelyn L. Wood in 1946. They traveled in construction work for 45 years, finally settling in Billings. They moved to Washington in spring 1999 to be near their daughter and her family. Edna Marie Meline, 95, died Monday, March 29, 2004, in Sheridan Manor. Memorial services will be later in Webster City, Iowa. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Meline was born Aug. 24, 1908, on the family farm near Verona, N.D., to Ingverd and Anna (Lippert) Arenkiel. She married Theodore W. Meline Aug. 7, 1929, at Oakes, N.D. They moved to Eagle Grove, Iowa, and, in 1939, to Webster City. Mrs. Meline worked at the Hahne Printing Co. for 24 years, retiring in 1972. She was a longtime member of First Congregational Church United Church of Christ, church circles and the Senior Citizens Center in Webster City. She was preceded in death by her husband, in 1997, and by 11 brothers and sisters. Survivors include two daughters, Joan McClain of Naples, Fla., and Charlotte Frary of Monroe, Mich.; a son, Theodore R. of Sheridan; five grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Louis Galloway, 70, of Sheridan died Tuesday, March 30, 2004, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday in the Sheridan Wesleyan Church with Pastor Chuck Lucas officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Masonic Cemetery. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Galloway was born Jan. 11, 1934, in Wheatland to Reubin Oliver and Mary (Sturdivent) Galloway. He attended schools in Sheridan and was a 1952 graduate of Sheridan High School. He worked briefly for the state of Wyoming before becoming an agent with Farm Bureau Insurance, where he was employed for 35 years. He retired as a claims adjuster in 1994. He spent most of his life in the Story/Sheridan area. After retiring from Farm Bureau, he spent four summers in the Rapid Creek Cattle Allotment as rider for the Connell and Gerber ranches. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and packing in the Big Horn Mountains. He was a member of Sheridan Wesleyan Church, the Wyoming Historical Society, Sheridan Masonic Lodge No. 8, Alcoholics Anonymous and the National Rifle Association. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn; three sons, Louis Edward, Chris and Joe; and eight grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Wesleyan Church Building Fund or a charity of the donor's choice.
Sheridan native Katherine N. Zullig, 91, of Pueblo, Colo., died Tuesday, March 30, 2004, in Pueblo. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in the Masonic Circle of Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with Bishop Robert Zuercher officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Zullig was born Aug. 15, 1912, in Sheridan to Gilbert K. and Ada E. (Norton) Halley. She grew up and attended schools in Sheridan and was a graduate of Sheridan High School. She graduated from Missouri State Teacher's College. She married Raymond Zullig in 1941. She worked as a legal secretary until her marriage, then became a full-time homemaker. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed music and played the organ for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband. Survivors include a daughter, Carol Zuercher of Rye, Colo.; a son, Alan of Renton, Wash.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
