Sheridan native Larry Dean Harbel, 63, died Aug. 21, 2008, at his home near Upper Marlboro, Md., his family announced. Services were Thursday in Upper Marlboro. Born July 30, 1945, in Sheridan to Charles and Helen Harbel, he grew up on a dairy farm and cattle ranch in Sheridan County. He attended Sheridan High School, Sheridan College, Northwestern University, and the University of Michigan and earned his bachelors degree from Bob Jones University. He received his Master of Business Administration degree in finance from George Washington University. Mr. Harbel worked for the OHare Inn, Inner City Baptist Church, Eastern Association of Christian Schools, A.B. Dick, and Bray and Scarff before going into private practice. He also ministered at Pacific Garden Mission and helped start a nursing home ministry in Chicago. He was actively involved at every church he attended and served on deacon and trustee boards. He also taught Sunday school and was an AWANA (Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed) evangelism youth leader for more than 25 years. For several years, he ministered at Boys Village in Cheltenham, Md. Most recently, he was involved with Child Evangelism Fellowship of Washington, D.C., and Youth Services Inc. and was a committed supporter of Gospelink Inc., with which he was able to build a seminary in Zambia. He served as president of the Anne Arundel Chapter of the American Institute of Certified Professional Accountants and was the most recent president of the Maryland AICPA chapter. He is survived by his wife, Twyla; three children, Melody Dillon of Crofton, Md., Holly Harvey of Clarksville, Tenn., and Brian Harbel of Owings Mills, Md.; his mother of Sheridan; a brother, Jerry Harbel of Petersburg, Va.; a sister Judi Adams of Ridgway, Colo.; and seven grandchildren. Services for Sylvia Williams, 83, of Sheridan, who died Wednesday, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Charles Olson, 83, Sheridan, died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Peters Episcopal Church, the Rev. Kevin Jones officiating. Born April 29, 1925, in Fort Robinson, Neb., to John and Alice Olson, he graduated from Sheridan High School in 1943 and enlisted in the Army that same year. He spent 2 1/2 years in the Pacific Theater participating in the Philippine liberation and winning the Bronze Star and three Bronze Campaign Stars with Purple Heart. He married Betty Sadler on Feb. 19, 1950, in Sheridan and retired in 1980 as a U.S. Postal Service mail supervisor. Important to Mr. Olson, after his family, were the Masonic lodges and Shrine, golf, and a computer to track the stock market. He was known for keeping busy and helping others. Survivors include his wife; three children, Steve Olson of Basin and John Olson and Kathy Flack, both of Sheridan; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Martha Frieda Sophia Kellner Obermueller, 88, Sheridan, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Pastor Kirk Peters officiating, with arrangements by Kane Funeral Home. Born Sept. 8, 1919, in Wilcox, Neb., to Henry and Julia Kellner, she married Reinold Obermueller on April 25, 1943, in Lincoln, Kan. She worked many years with her husband in their country grocery store in Kansas. They moved to Greeley, Colo., in 1970 and to Sheridan in 1974. They opened Yellowstone Modular Homes in 1975. Mrs. Obermueller also worked at J.C. Penney, Wal-Mart, and with her son, Brian, at Sheridan Homes. She loved watching NASCAR, and Jeff Gordon was her favorite driver. She also enjoyed crocheting, dancing, fishing, playing cards, and bowling. She was preceded in death by a daughter Jackie in 2005; a grandson Corey in 1991; her husband in 1982; five brothers; and six sisters. Survivors include four children, Darla Lotz and Brian Obermueller, both of Sheridan, Peggy Landis of Lancaster, Pa., and Candy Morris of Centralia, Wash.; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Former Sheridan resident Donald A. McKelvey Sr., 80, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008, at his home in Thornton, Colo., his family announced. Memorial services are 4 p.m. today at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel in Denver with burial 10 a.m. Thursday in Denvers Fort Logan National Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Judy A. McKelvey; six children, Donald R. McKelvey, Barbara Jean Miller, Shannon E. Hall, Donald A. McKelvey Jr., Diana L. Russell, and Kathy S. Waltman; 19 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Shirley Conley, 85, Sheridan, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2008, in at St. Vincent Hospital in Billings. Funeral services will be at Kane Funeral Home on Friday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Ron Stolcis officiating. Interment will follow in Sheridan Elks Cemetery. Born in St. Louis to William Jr. and Stella (Griffin) Klosterman on May 31, 1923, she attended the Academy of Visitation Catholic School in St. Louis and then enrolled at the University of Missouri, where she met her future husband, Charles Conley. With Mr. Conley gone during World War II, she worked in the laboratory at a TNT factory while continuing her studies. After she graduated with a degree in English, the couple married and moved to the Conley ranch in Otter, Mont. They lived there many years until Mr. Conleys ill health brought them to Sheridan. Mrs. Conley was preceded in death by her husband in 1998 and by two brothers and two sisters. She is survived by her son, Dan; two nephews; and a niece. Shirley Velos, 59, Ranchester, died at her home Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008. Memorial services will be at First Christian Church on Friday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Doug Goodwin officiating. Cremation arrangements were made with Kane Funeral Home. Born Jan. 18, 1949, in Sheridan to Robert and Nina Adams, she married Corky Velos in Buffalo on July 19, 1977. Over the years she worked at Browns Drug Store, Kendrick Mansion, and the Energy Inn. Mrs. Velos loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and with her friends. She also enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, reading, gambling in Deadwood, S.D., cooking with her grandkids, and collecting Indian art. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband; three children, Shawn Stewart of Sheridan and Jim Velos and Koko Borzenski, both of Ranchester; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her siblings, Sandi Cooper of Richmond, Ky., Judy Horsley of Sheridan, and Rob Adams of Grand Junction, Colo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Sylvia Williams, 83, Sheridan, died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Philip Wold officiating. Born Oct. 8, 1924, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Arthur and Cecelia (Goldberg) Lipson, she grew up and attended schools in Des Moines and married James A. Williams on March 21, 1974, in Princeton, Mo. She managed a Mister Donut shop in Des Moines. The couple had lived in Sheridan since 1975. Mrs. Williams was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She loved travel and spending time with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters. She is survived by her husband; one brother, Jay Lipson, of Des Moines; one sister, Fredia Pearl, of West Des Moines, Iowa; and eight grandchildren. Dr. Fred Lindemann, 69, Big Horn, died Monday, Aug. 25, 2008, at St. Vincent Hospital in Billings. Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday at Holy Name Catholic Church, the Rev. Carl Beavers officiating. Born Sept. 13, 1938, in Wolf Point, Mont., to Rex and Mary Lindemann, he worked as a radiologist at Sheridan Memorial Hospital from 1968 until retiring in 1998. Dr. Lindemann enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golf. Two sons, Sean and Paul, preceded him in death. Survivors include four sons, Garrett Lindemann of Big Horn, Ward Lindemann of Colorado Springs, Colo., Barry Lindemann of Las Vegas, and Cole Lindemann of Anchorage, Alaska; three sisters, Kay, Mary, and Alicia; a brother, Bill Lindemann; and seven grandchildren. Gerald Hahn, 65, Sheridan, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008, in Iowa. Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at Kane Funeral Home, Pastor Tony Forman officiating. Born Feb. 22, 1943, in Tuttle, N.D., to John and Alice Hahn, he joined the Marine Corps in 1960 and married Betty Tanner on Sept. 22, 1962, in Escondido, Calif. After honorable retirement from the Marines in 1981, Mr. Hahn moved with his wife to Sheridan, where he worked 25 years for the VA Medical Center, including in its computer department. He loved his family and spending time with his grandkids at elk camp. Survivors include his wife; four children, Johnnie, Raymond, and Dennis Hahn, all of Sheridan, and Jana Hulford of Des Moines, Iowa; four siblings, Rosemary Thompson of Iowa, and Clifford Hahn, Betty Hart, and Marla Hether, all of Sheridan; and four grandchildren.
Locke Kirtley, 81, Sheridan, died Monday, Aug. 25, 2008, at Sheridan VA Medical Center. Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Kane Funeral Home. Born Sept. 20, 1926, in Kaycee to Ura and Stella Kirtley, he attended Buffalo High School and later earned his general equivalency diploma. He served in the Armys 7th Infantry Division in Korea, Germany, and Japan and earned a Combat Infantry Badge. He married Phyllis Fairlie on May 12, 1954, in Buffalo. He was a car salesman for Western Auto in California, Ed Hammer Inc. in Sheridan, Sheridan Ranch Supply, and at his own dealership, Lockes Used Cars, in Sheridan. He also owned and operated The Burger Wagon from 1992 until 1999, when he went to work at Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Kirtley belonged to Masonic Lodge 43, York Rite, Kalif Shrine, Elks Lodge 520, and Kiwanis and was on the Sheridan-WYO Rodeo Executive Board. He loved his family and friends and was known for always having a story to tell, a laugh, a smile, and a helping hand. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Marston Kirtley and two who died in infancy; and two sisters, Mary Sherburne and Zaide Kirtley. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Zena Husman of Sheridan and Karmen Kirtley of Denver; two granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren. Former Sheridan area resident Rose Woodward, 86, died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2008, at home in Lake Havasu City, Ariz. A private inurnment will take place later; arrangements were by Lake Havasu Mortuary & Crematory. Born April 12, 1922, in Ulm to Joe Miech and Anna Sikora, she grew up on a ranch and lived in the Sheridan area for 74 years. She married Gerald Everett Woodward on Oct. 21, 1942, in Hardin, Mont. They resided 31 years in the Clearmont area. Mrs. Woodward enjoyed canning, crocheting, and sewing and was known as a great cook. Survivors include a daughter, Bonnie Jean Woodward of Aurora, Colo.; a son, Everett G. (Jerry) Woodward of Lake Havasu City; two sisters, Mabel Rothwell of Cheyenne and Edna Fry of Malibu, Calif.; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; three sisters, Mary Powers, Albena Kobielusz and Anna Kumar; and five brothers, Joe, Mike, Johnny, George and Ed Miech. Former Sheridan resident Carlyn Cunneen, 60, died
Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008, at her home in Billings of cancer.
Memorial services are 3 p.m. Wednesday at Dahl Funeral Chapel,
Billings. Cremation has taken place, and private interment of
ashes will be later. Born in Billings to Bill and Norma Cunneen,
she lived in Sheridan from 1981 to 1991.
She worked 42 years as a licensed practical nurse. Her husband,
Wesley Weber, preceded her in death. Survivors include three
children, Jim Weber, William Weber, and Kristina Weber, all of
Billings; five grandchildren; and several cousins. In lieu of
flowers, memorials may benefit Billings Animal Shelter.

Former Sheridan resident Lyle Biesterfeld, 62, of
Round Mountain, Nev., died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008, in Tonopah,
Nev., after a 10-month battle with colon cancer, his family
announced. Cremation will take place, and a celebration of
life will be Thursday at his home. Next spring the family will
hold a memorial and put his ashes to rest. Born in 1946 in
Underwood, N.D., he moved to Sheridan in 1970 after serving four
years in the Navy during the Vietnam War.
He married Betty Kelsey on Jan. 28, 1971. He and his family lived
in Sheridan until 1989, when he left for Nevada to work while on
strike at Decker Coal. His family joined him in 1991 after the
strike ended. Mr. Biesterfeld was a 30-year member of the Elks.
Two brothers preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife; a
daughter, Tonya Moore of Phoenix; a son, Bowdy Biesterfeld of
Round Mountain; four grandchildren; a brother; seven sisters; and
several nieces and nephews.

Kathryn Ann Skatula, 54, formerly of Sheridan, died Aug. 21, 2008, at her home in Los Angeles after a battle with ALS (Lou Gehrigs disease), according to her sister, Mary Jo Johnson. Services will be 3 p.m. Monday at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Santa Monica, Calif. Arrangements are with Angeleno Mortuary in Los Angeles. Born June 11, 1954, in Olympia, Wash., to Roman and Marty (Sabo) Skatula, she graduated from Sheridan High School in 1972 and attended Colorado Womens College. She was a professional actor in Los Angeles. In high school, she participated in music and drama. She was Sheridan County Junior Miss and Wyomings Junior Miss. She also attended American Legion Girls State and was selected to Girls Nation in Washington, D.C. Her best friend and caregiver was Ali B. Olmo. Barbara Louise (Miller) Bovee, 72, formerly of Sheridan, died Aug. 2, 2008, at her home in Anchorage, Alaska. At her request, no services will take place. Earl R. Johnson, 85, of Sheridan, died Aug. 15, 2008, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Cremation has taken place, and memorial services with military honors will be 11 a.m. Monday at Kane Funeral Home with Richard Snider officiating. Interment will be in Custer National Cemetery. Born Feb. 4, 1923, in Garryowen, Mont., to Lee and Emma (Cable) Johnson, he attended Rozet High School, where he was a basketball player. After graduation, he joined the Army Air Corps and served in World War II. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, and Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon. Mr. Johnson worked 33 years for Wyodak Coal Mine. He enjoyed chariot racing, horses, elk hunting and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Carl Cookie Johnson; a sister, Rosie; and a son, Jeffrey L. Johnson. He is survived by a daughter, Sheri Koenig of Gillette; a son, Robert L. Johnson of Gillette; a sister, Jessie Duvall of Rozet; a brother, Louis Johnson of Newcastle; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Lyle W. (Ozzie) Osborn, 85, of Buffalo died Aug. 16, 2008, at Sheridan VA Medical Center of cancer. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo, the Rev. Tom Saur officiating. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Born March 12, 1923, in Wheatland, he attended school in Buffalo and graduated in 1941 from Johnson County High School, where he was a member of the basketball team. He continued playing for the Buffalo town team for a number of years. He served as seaman first class with the United States Navy from March 19, 1943, until being honorably discharged Nov. 27, 1945. He married his high school sweetheart, Lois Watt, in 1942. She died 1974. He later married Mary Will, and they divorced. He worked for McNeese Dairy delivering milk while in high school and on the Watt ranch before and after military service. He also worked 18 years on the Wyoming Highway Department survey crew, then took over the family bee business with his brother until retiring in 1987. He loved hunting and fishing, but his greatest love was dancing. He was a member of St. Lukes Episcopal Church, American Legion, and Buffalo Masonic Lodge 7. He is survived by a son, Jerry Osborn of Buffalo; a daughter, Lynda Taplin of Havre, Mont.; a brother, Warren Osborn of Yorba Linda, Calif.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Sheridan native Jean Bradsher, 80, died at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper on Aug. 17, 2008, after a long illness. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Newcomer Family Funeral Home, Casper, with Chaplain Martin Skogen of Shepherd of the Valley Care Center officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, Casper. Born May 14, 1928, in Sheridan to Harley and Mable (Fetter) Woolston, she married Harry Bradsher on Sept. 30, 1961. They resided in Casper but maintained close ties to their family and friends in Sheridan. Upon graduation from high school, she began working at Mountain Bell and remained there until her retirement. She started as a telephone operator and worked many years as an employment supervisor for Wyoming. She loved travel, animals, and her friends. She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, William H. Woolston. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may benefit Casper Humane Society.
Walter Bales, 84, died Aug. 17, 2008, of
leukemia in his home near Birney, Mont. Cremation has taken place

Home with Roger St. Clair officiating. Born April 21, 1924, in
Sheridan, he grew up in Parkman and graduated from Sheridan High
School in 1942. He served in the Army from 1942-1949. He was a
cowboy and ranch hand all his life. He worked for the Diamond
Cross Ranch in Birney for the past 23 years. He took care of his
own herd of cattle and previously worked for Beckton Stock Farm,
the Wrench Ranch, and the Double Rafter Ranch. He is survived by
his wife, Victoria; a son, Walt of Cohagen, Mont.; three
daughters, Virginia Ellis of Parker, Colo., Pam Marshburn of
Arvada, Colo., and Annette Hall of Sheridan; three stepchildren,
Georgann Lee of Sheridan, Tori Dietz of Worland, and Gene
Legerski of Las Vegas; three sisters, Ruth Nelson from Oregon,
Shirley Philips from New Mexico, and Donna Baker from Laurel,
Mont.; a brother, Robert of Billings; seven grandchildren; one
great-grandson; and five step-grandchildren.

Born June 13, 1959, in Douglas, Mich., to Donald and Sylvia Scurio, he worked 30 years as a heavy-equipment mechanic. Mr. Wake died May 22, 2008, at Davis Hospice Center in Cheyenne. Cremation took place at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens under the direction of Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes in Cheyenne in May. Born April 16, 1916, in Marmarth, N.D., to Carl Vennigerholz and Dorothy Bouldin, he graduated from Sheridan High School in 1935. He worked as a sales clerk at Central Grocery Co. in Sheridan from 1936 until 1938 and as a department manager for Stevens, Fryberger & Co., The New York Store of Sheridan from 1938 until he was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1942. He married Marcia A. Stutsman on May 2, 1942, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Sheridan. In the Army he earned the rank of first lieutenant through the adjutant general's Officer Candidate School. He was stationed at Camp Hale as chief storekeeper, Quartermaster Corps, and then served as assistant exchange officer of the Army at Fort Francis E. Warren and the exchange officer at Fort Logan, Colo. He also served as president of the Rocky Mountain Exchange Officers Association, United States Army and Air Force in Denver. Following his honorable discharge in 1946, he returned to Sheridan, where he was manager and personnel director of Stevens, Fryberger & Co. from 1947 until 1957. He was president of the Department of Wyoming Reserve Officers Association of the U.S. Army from 1952 until 1953 and was national councilman from 1953 until 1954. He was commander of John Donald Garbutt Post 7 of the American Legion in Sheridan from 1953 until 1954 and on the board of trustees from 1955 until 1957. He was director of the Sheridan Chamber of Commerce from 1956 until 1957. He was also a Sheridan Lodge 8 Mason. In 1961, Mr. Wake co-founded and was senior vice president of Bayer, Hebert, Wake & Co. Inc., a brokerage firm in Cheyenne. He later served as a registered representative for Bosworth, Sullivan & Co. of Denver; Roberts, Scott & Company Inc. of San Diego; and W.C. Langley and Co. of Denver. In semiretirement, he was a real estate salesman in Colorado and general manager of the Pine Valley Country Club of Pine Valley, Colo. He retired from the Army in 1976, having earned the rank of major AUS through the Reserve Officers Association. He and his wife returned to Cheyenne in 1980. He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Linda Kelley and Diana McDougal, both of Cheyenne, and Jill Robinson of Laramie; two sisters, Beatrice Turner of North Platte, Neb., and Dorothy French of Mesa, Ariz.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Iva Kay Martini, 65, of Otter, Mont., died Aug. 7, 2008, in Laramie. She worked at First National Bank in Sheridan for 20 years. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Cornerstone Community Church, 4351 Big Horn Ave., with the Rev. Tony Forman officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Born Feb. 21, 1943, in Broadus, Mont., to Ernest and Fern (Crocker) Franklin, she attended Billup country school through the eighth grade and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1961. She married Don Martini in Hardin, Mont., in 1961. After their divorce, she married Gib Lloyd in 1997. They also divorced. She was associated with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. in Denver for five years. She moved to her grandparents homestead in 1991 and ranched there ever since. She was a member of Farm Bureau, R-Calf, and the Montana Catttlemans Association. She enjoyed breading good cattle, riding horseback, and spending time with her family. She is survived by son Marc Martini of Laramie; daughter Lorna Antoniak of Longmont, Colo.; brother Bruce Garber of Spokane, Wash.; sister Diana Schumacher of Black Hawk, S.D.; and four grandchildren. Milton O. Loftus, 85, of Sheridan, died Aug. 7, 2008, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Arrangements are pending with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.
Jo Mohr, 86 of Buffalo, died Aug. 5, 2008, at her home, according to Adams Funeral Home of Buffalo. A funeral will be held by her family at a later date.
Phillip L. James, 55, of Sheridan, died Aug. 9, 2008, in a motorcycle accident. A memorial service will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Early Auditorium at Sheridan Junior High School with the Rev. Glenn Murray officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Born April 11, 1953, in Lusk to Lee and Mary (Hales) James, he graduated in 1971 from Niobrara High School, where he was a state champion wrestler. He was a government trapper, a welder in the oil fields, senior construction manager in Iraq, and presently owned a general contracting business, CRC Inc. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and a life member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed snowmobiling, horseback riding, fishing, hunting, motorcycling, and spending time with his boys and the many children who were a part of his life. He is survived by his wife, Jaclyn James; two sons, Joel Edward James and Timothy Lee James; two daughters, Amy Jo James and Aimee Wagner; a brother, David; a sister, Kim Brost; one grandson,; and many nieces and nephews. Larry G. Ostermyer, 65, of Sheridan, died August
8, 2008, in Billings, Mont. after head trauma from a fall. A
Celebration of Life service will be at 10 a.m. August 13, 2008,
at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with Steve Wuthier
officiating. A reception will be held at the Kalif Shrine
Center Auditorium, 145 West Loucks Street, Sheridan, immediately
following the service with interment in the Sheridan Municipal
Cemetery at 3 p.m. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral
Home. Those attending the service are encouraged to dress
casually and comfortably at the request of Larrys family.He
was born January 11, 1943 in Otto, Iowa to Leo and Ruth
(Kelsheimer) Ostermyer. His parents divorced when he was about
four. He lived with his mother and step-father, Harry Kroll
on the family farm north of Sioux City, Iowa until he joined the
U.S. Army at age 22. Larry trained at Fort Leonard Wood,
Mo. and then served 26 months in Germany in a Persian missile
battery as a mechanic. After his discharge, he returned
home to Iowa, but things didnt work out. A friend from the
service, Denny Edwards, of Buffalo, had told Larry to come to
Wyoming if he needed a job. With $80 and a suitcase of
clothes, he came to Buffalo in June, 1969. He worked about eight
months for George Nimick and then for Wally Ramsbottom as a ranch
hand. During that time, he met Jean Lupton on a blind date and
they married in 1972 in Sheridan. In 1975, Larry started
working on the Texaco Ranch and he and Jean moved to Lower Piney
Creek where they lived for over 26 years, raising their daughter
Lea and son, Kim, while putting in many long hours irrigating,
haying, raising a huge garden, and trapping in his spare time.

Fort Road, Sheridan. Larry was a pack rat and
collected date nails, barbed wire, porcelain signs, carpenter
pencils and yardsticks, among other things. At the end of 2001,
Larry retired and moved to Sheridan where he continued his
collecting and recycling.
Larry will be remembered for his laughter, his may strong
opinions, his passions, and his love of the many people in his
life. He was looking forward to enjoying his retirement by going
on more fishing trips and looking after his grandson, who was
born on August 2, 2008.
Phillip James, 55, of Sheridan, died August 9, 2008, on Highway 14-a in the Big Horn Mountains from injuries received in a motorcycle accident. Vera L. (Dabney) Huson, 79, of Cheyenne died August 4, 2008 in Denver due to complications from surgery. A memorial service was held August 8, 2008 at the Wiedershpahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes with the Rev. Eugene Todd officiating. Cremation has taken place at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens. Wiedershpahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes is in charge of arrangements. She was born in Sheridan on January 7, 1929. She married Harry M. Huson on April 14, 1947 in Hardin, Mont. She was a homemaker and secretary for various businesses where they lived. She lived in Newcastle, Casper, Arvada, and Cheyenne. She was a member of the Methodist Church, Order of Amaranth, and a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a Meals on Wheels driver for 23 years, a former Girl Scout Leader, a Past Guardian of Jobs Daughters and involved in the many other activities in which her daughters participated in. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, and sewing. She is survived by her husband, daughters Karen Kastner and Marsha (Jim) Milek, both of Casper, and Cindy Sutphin of Douglas, six grandchildren, and two-great-grandchildren. Donations may be made to Meals on Wheels or the Shriners Hospital for Children.

Michael Francis Patrick Mike McGuire, 80, of Buffalo died August 5, 2008, at Johnson County Health Care Center. Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Buffalo with the Rev. Peter Johnson officiating. A vigil service and rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at the church. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Thursday at Adams Funeral Home. Michael V. Chalfant, 51, of Parkman died Aug. 1, 2008, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital after a two-year battle with cancer. A viewing will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Kirk Peters of Immanuel Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be in Dayton Cemetery. Born Oct. 21, 1956, in Sheridan to Vincent and Edna (Shroeder) Chalfant, he graduated from Big Horn High School in 1975 and married Susan Cox-Bradshaw in 1979. He worked at Spring Creek Coal. Mr. Chalfant enjoyed hunting, drawing Western art, watching the Denver Broncos, working outdoors, and especially watching his son play basketball and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife; his son, Sean, of Parkman; his mother, Edna Scott, of Sheridan; and a brother, Larry Chalfant, of Sheridan. He was preceded in death by his father. Memorials may benefit a fund for the education of his son, or a charity of the donors choice.
Former Sheridan County resident Donald Eugene Masters, 75, died July 29, 2008, at his home in Las Vegas after a 15-year battle with cancer. Cremation has taken place, according to Masters' sister Nancy Ketcham. Services are pending. Born Feb. 27, 1933, in Sheridan to David E. Masters and Nora Barker Masters, he grew up on the family ranch in Kooi. Masters joined the Navy in 1950 serving three years during the Korean War and then in the Naval Reserve for seven years. He worked in construction most of his life. He was superintendent for Cop Construction and Western Municipal, both of Billings. He loved flying his own airplanes, trapshooting competitions and playing poker. He was preceded in death by his brother David. He is survived by his wife, Delores; a son, Daniel; two daughters, Connie Chahine and Vicki Cochran; and two sisters, Nora Lou Gugler and Nancy Ketcham.

Former Sheridan resident Lila May (Pete) Buckingham Breen, 75, of Hardin, Mont., died Aug. 2, 2008, at Heritage Acres Nursing Home. Memorial graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Lodge Grass (Mont.) Cemetery. Arrangements are with Bullis Mortuary of Hardin. Born April 17, 1933 in Lodge Grass to Harlow Buckingham and Barbara Ellen Chandler Buckingham Aarstad, she grew up and attended schools in Lodge Grass. She began work at the SU Ranch, where she met and married Bernard A. Breen Sr. on Sept. 15, 1950. Mrs. Breen cooked on various area ranches, including the Hope, Padlock, Kendrick, Faddis Kennedy and Stark. She later worked in the Safeway bakery in Hardin and for Stevenson's IGA in Lodge Grass. She and her husband worked for Harry and Ellen Allen north of Hardin. They later moved to Sheridan. She was preceded in death by her husband; brother William Buckingham; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. She is survived by her children, Frankie Kenyon of Alaska, Ellen Stensaker of North Dakota, Kathy Hope of Busby, Mont., Sherry Kirschenmann of Hardin, Joe Breen of Texas, and Bill and Bernard Breen Jr. of Lodge Grass; her sister, Shirley Cordel of Alaska; her brother, James Buckingham of Sheridan; 27 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren. Mildred L. Fox, 96, Sheridan, died Aug. 2, 2008, at Westview Health Care Center. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sheridan Municipal Cemetery, the Rev. Don Derryberry officiating. Born March 31, 1912, in Afton, Iowa, to Elmer and Bertha (Webb) Thomas, she moved at age 7 with her family to a homestead south of Rozet and attended a one-room country schoolhouse. At age 15 she lost her mother to a scarlet fever epidemic. As the oldest of five children, she helped her father raise her younger siblings. She married Kenneth Chace in 1931, and they had a son, William (Billy). The family moved to Sheridan in 1945, and Mr. Chace died in 1976. She married Parke Fox in 1978. He died in 2002, and Mrs. Fox then moved to Westview. She worked in Sheridan for Tudor Cleaners, Sandwich Shop, Elks Dining Room, and Central School Cafeteria. She enjoyed playing cards, fishing, camping, travel, and visiting with family and friends. In addition to her two husbands, she was preceded in death by two brothers and a son. Survivors include a sister, Carole Irish of Gillette; a half sister, Betty Dygert of Buffalo; and several nieces and nephews. Donations may benefit Sheridan Senior Center Day Break, 211 Smith St., Sheridan, WY 82801; Alzheimer's Wyoming, P.O. Box 1493, Casper, WY 82602; or a charity of the donor's choice.
