BANNER — Harry A. Williams, 70, of Banner died Friday, Dec. 28, 2001, at his home. Visitation will be 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Thursday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at First Congregational Church with Pastor Bob Miller officiating.

Cecil R. Randolph Sr.

Cecil R. Randolph Sr., 64, of Sheridan died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Visitation will be 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 30 at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with Pastor Stephen Anselmo officiating. Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery, Eagles section. Mr. Randolph was born Jan. 8, 1937, in Carbondale, Calif., to Walter and Annie (Taylor) Randolph. He grew up in California and graduated from high school in Iona, Calif. He married his first wife, Sherlyn, in the early 1960s. They later divorced. Mr. Randolph moved to Sheridan in 1977 where he worked as a welder for Decker Coal Co. He married Jill Petry Aug. 13, 1990, in Hardin, Mont. He retired from Decker Coal in 2000. The past president and trustee of Eagles Lodge #186 enjoyed four-wheelers, hunting, fishing, camping with his family and being in the Big Horn Mountains. He also enjoyed his grandchildren. Mr. Randolph was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Cecil “Butch” Randolph Jr.; and a sister, Iris Bishop. Survivors are his wife, Jill Randolph, of Sheridan; daughters Cynthia Sharp of Montana, Caren Achenbach of Arkansas and Catherine Randolph of Texas; stepsons Nicholas and Richard Petry of Billings, and Steven Petry of Rapid City; brothers Stanley and Art Rudolph of Ione, Calif., and Leonard Rudolph of Plymouth, Calif.; sisters Pearl Maxwell of Ione, and Goldie Smith of Silver Springs, Nev.; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Memorials may benefit Eagles Lodge #186 building fund, P.O. Box 2031, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Richard Kay Tanner

CASPER — Richard Kay Tanner, 57, died Dec. 22, 2001, at his home in Sheridan of natural causes. Services are 9 a.m. Saturday at Bustard’s Funeral Home by Capts. Keith and Linda Bottjen of the Salvation Army. Mr. Tanner was born July 23, 1944, in Price, Utah, to Reed B. and Kathleen (Curtis) Tanner. He graduated from Lander Vocational High School. He managed the Golden Steer restaurant in Sheridan at the time of his death. He had also managed restaurants in the Casper and Thermopolis areas. His hobbies included camping and fishing, and he especially enjoyed being the chuck wagon “chef” for cattle drives. Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Kathleen and Donald Ball of Moab, Utah; two brothers, Gary Tanner of Havre, Mont., and Lynn of Murreta, Calif.; a sister, Shirley Brisbin of Denver; two daughters, Alannah Wellborn of Casper and Brandie Orchard of Jackson; two sons, Gregory and Jeffrey Tanner, both of Casper; and three grandsons. He was preceded in death by his father. Memorials are suggested to the Tanner Memorial Fund at Bustard’s Funeral Home and Crematory, 600 CY Ave., Casper.

Trey Garrett Redder

TORRINGTON — Trey Garrett Redder, 21, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2001, at his home in Torrington. He was grandson of Helen Redder of Sheridan. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Monday at All Saints Episcopal Church in Torrington with the Rev. Dale McQueen officiating. Burial will follow in the Valley View Cemetery. Colyer Funeral Home of Torrington was in charge of cremation arrangements. He was born Sept. 30, 1980, in Casper to Don and Cheryl Redder. In addition to his paternal grandmother, survivors include a son, Jaeden Trey; his father and step-mother, Don and Barb Redder of Gillette; his mother, Cheryl Redder of Torrington; a sister, Desiree Garcia; maternal grandparents Herb and Thea Comin, Torrington; and cousins, nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by a paternal grandfather, Vernon M. Redder, and a cousin. Memorials are suggested to “Santa’s Helpers,” c/o Madden Brothers of Torrington.

Vivian Boucher

TUCSON, Ariz. — Vivian Boucher, 86, former longtime resident of Sheridan, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001, at her home. No services are planned. Arrangements are through Bring Funeral Chapel in Tucson. Her remains will be cremated. She was born Aug. 17, 1915, in Lemberg, Saskatchewan, Canada, to the Rev. George W. and Elise Pust. She married Leonard Harold Boucher April 22, 1945, in Renton, Wash. He died Oct. 19, 1992. She was a federal librarian for many years, retiring from White Sands Missile Range, N.M. She also taught. She was awarded a lifetime membership in the Wyoming PTA for her work in establishing the library at Woodland Park School in Sheridan. She was a published author and award-winning composer of stories, poems and songs. She penned the school song for Woodland Park. She belonged to Twenty-Second Street Baptist Church in Tucson. Survivors include two sons, the Rev. Miles Gregory Boucher of Liberal, Kan., and Bryce Emory Boucher of Tucson; one grandson; two stepsons, Desmond Leonard Boucher of Spokane, Wash., and Ronald Rex Boucher of Kirkland, Wash.; four step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; three step-great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother and sister.

Malcolm I. Bucher

Malcolm I. Bucher, 82, Sheridan, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Born May 27, 1919, in Alva to Ivan and Nina Bucher, he grew up and attended school in Hulett and Belle Fourche, S.D., graduating from Belle Fourche High School in 1938.Mr. Bucher owned and operated service stations in Hulett, Sundance, Newcastle and Greybull before moving to Dayton, where he owned and operated a service station and campground. He then moved to Sheridan, where he owned the Gulf station and delivered mail to Parkman and Pass Creek before retiring. He belonged to First Baptist Church in Hulett. He married Eileen Hauber on Jan. 5, 1941, in Broadus, Mont. She died in 1983. He married Helen Jervis in November 1983 in Casper. A brother and sister also preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife of Casper; two daughters, Lydia Ann Roloff of Richmond, Va., and Dianna Lynn Stevenson of Sheridan; a brother, Dean Bucher of Aladdin; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Visitation is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Services are 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, Hulett, the Rev. Jeff Dilks officiating, with burial in Hulett Cemetery. Memorials may benefit Hulett First Baptist Church or donor’s choice in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank of Sheridan.

 

Virginia Wolfe

Former Sheridan resident Virginia Wolfe, 87, of Cheyenne died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001, in Cheyenne. Graveside services are 10 a.m. Saturday in Sheridan Elks Cemetery with the Rev. David Duprey officiating. Kane Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Wolfe was born Jan. 7, 1914, in Lander to Frank and Effie (Wroe) Snavely. She married Jack Wolfe Jan. 28, 1936, in Eaton, Colo. She worked as legal secretary for most of her life. She enjoyed bridge and loved spending time with her daughter and family. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1970 and her brother, L.L. Snavely. Survivors include her daughter, Linda Clark, of Cheyenne; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Verna Rummell of Tucson, Ariz. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association, Wyoming Chapter, in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank, Box 2007, Sheridan, WY.

William Loren Sheridan Sr., 93, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, at Victory Memorial Hospital in Waukegan, Ill. Graveside services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Willow Grove Cemetery, Buffalo, with the Rev. LARAMIE — Tom T. Hornbeck, 68, of Elk Mountain died Monday, Dec. 17, 2001, at Ivinson Memorial Hospital. Survivors include a brother, Jack Hornbeck, of Sheridan. Memorial services are 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Rawlins with the Rev. Robin Chance officiating. Internment will follow at a later date in Reader Cemetery in Savery. Evelyn L. ‘Peggy’ Hollander

Evelyn L. “Peggy” Hollander, 80, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2001, at Sheridan Manor. At her request, there will be no services. Cremation has taken place. Kane Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Hollander was born Feb. 15, 1921, in Page, Neb., to Lloyd and Mary (Cullen) Bergstrom. She worked for 20 years as a nurse’s aide and lab technician at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. She was married to Bud Wolfe for 39 years. She loved to quilt and was an above-average bowler for many years. She enjoyed fly-fishing, camping, hunting, playing cards and cribbage, and crossword puzzles. She was an avid reader, and when able made weekly trips to Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library. She was a member of the Methodist Church. She served as secretary/treasurer of Royal Neighbors Insurance in the early 1950s. She was a devoted Atlanta Braves fan. Two brothers preceded her in death. Survivors include three daughters, Patti Klinkosh of Ranchester, Peggy Buss of Sheridan and Kay Pittman of Sheridan; seven granddaughters; eight great-grandchildren; and her sister, Loretta Wilson of Charlo, Mont. Memorials are suggested to the donor’s choice in care of Kay Roush, First Federal Savings Bank, Box 6007, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Richard M. Bradley

Richard M. Bradley, 75, of Sheridan, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001. Services were Thursday at First Assembly of God in Mountainair, N.M., with the Rev. James Pinckard officiating. Kane Funeral Home handled local arrangements, and Harris-Hanson Mortuary handled arrangements in New Mexico. He was buried Corona, N.M. Mr. Bradley was born to Leroy and Marion (Thompson) Bradley Dec. 12, 1926, in Sapulpa, Okla. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars in Corona, and lived in the Corona and Carrizozo, N.M., area for many years. Survivors include his wife, Janet, of Pueblo, Colo.; sons Benjamin Bradley of Pueblo and Roy Bradley of Carrizozo; stepsons Lucky Myers of Carrizozo, Aaron Burton of Las Cruces, N.M., and Baron Burton of Minnesota; a daughter, Barbara Bradley of Belen, N.M.; stepdaughter Ernestine Normangee of Texas; a brother, Darrel of Raton, N.M.; a sister, Evelyn Miller of Deming, N.M.; and six grandchildren.

YARNELL, Ariz. — Carole Jean Welsh, 60, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001. Survivors include a brother, Leroy Powers, of Sheridan. Services were Saturday in Phoenix. Mrs. Welsh was born Aug. 7, 1941, in Miles City, Mont., to Harry S. Powers and Rosa Belle Kelsey. She married Gary Not Afraid and later divorced. She married Larry Welsh in 1982, and Mr. Welsh died in 1997. She moved to Phoenix in 1970. She started out ranching, and after moving to Arizona in 1970 she owned and operated restaurants, sold cars, worked in antiques and drove cattle trucks. Survivors include four children, Dannelle Hyatt of Phoenix, Mike Not Afraid of Crow Agency, Mont., and Michelle Armajo and Julie Cummins, both of Lodge Grass, Mont.; nine grandchildren; one sister, Marjorie Bawden of Las Alamitos, Calif.; and two additional brothers, Lynn Powers of Sidney, Mont., and Jimmy Kale of Miles City.

Kathryn L. Thompson, 86, of Buffalo died Monday, Dec. 17, 2001, at the Johnson County Health Care Center. Memorial services are 2 p.m. Monday at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Buffalo with the Rev. Zane K. Hepp, 69, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2001, at his home in Sheridan. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with Mack Bischoff officiating. Burial will be at Quiet Rest Cemetery in Story.

Della Katherine Evans

Della Katherine Evans, 103, of Sheridan died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001, at Westview Health Care Center. Services were at James Memorial United Methodist Church in Hudson, Colo., Dec. 12. She was born Sept. 20, 1898, to James William Wells and Alma Asbury in Greensburg, Mo. She attended college in Culver-Stockton, Mo. Her family moved to Yuma, Colo., where she taught school at age 17. She later worked at the Yuma Post Office, where she met James William Evans. They married July 3, 1925, in Loveland, Colo. She lived in Hudson from 1953 to 1944. She was active in the Garden Club and the James United Methodist Church in Hudson, where she taught Sunday school until she was 91. She was preceded in death by her husband and two sons, James Howard Evans and David James Evans. Survivors include one sister-in-law, five grandsons, three great-granddaughters, three step-great-great-grandchildren, one step-granddaughter, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Kane Funeral Home was in charge of local arrangements, and Rice Mortuary and Crematory handled services in Colorado.

STORY — Beatrice B. Henderson, 81, of Story died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, at her residence. Mrs. Henderson was born Nov. 13, 1920, in Wilmar, Calif., to Ernest and Alice (Hayes) Burley. She completed high school and received a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of California at Berkeley. She married Richard P. Henderson May 20, 1949, in Berkeley. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, crocheting, sewing and reading. She loved to travel and collected Nativity sets. She attended Story Community Church and was a member of the Story Garden Club. Survivors include her husband of Story; two sons, Richard of Glen Burnie, Md., and Hal of Los Angeles; two daughters, Betty Gardner of Sheridan and Julie Caster of Worden, Mont.; two brothers, Gilman Burley of Paradise, Calif., and Cameron Burley of Mariposa, Calif.; two sisters, Dorothy McCune of Mariposa and Rosalyn Henderson of Portland, Ore.; and eight grandchildren.

Etta Holmden, 86, of Sheridan died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at First Congregational Church with the Rev. Bob Miller officiating. Interment will follow in the Elks Cemetery. Kane Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Kenneth Namtvedt

Kenneth M. Namtvedt, 77, of Sheridan died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, in the Sheridan VA Medical Center. Graveside committal of cremains will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Masonic 43 Section of Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with officers of the Masonic Lodge officiating.Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Namtvedt was born March 9, 1924, in Groton, S.D., to Cornelius and Margit (Hjelle) Namtvedt. The family moved to Hettinger, N.D., then to Buffalo, where he graduated from Johnson County High School in 1942. He served with the 3rd Army during World War II and was a decorated veteran. He married Elizabeth A. Yasulevicz in 1946 in Hardin, Mont. They moved to Laramie, where he attended the University of Wyoming, then moved to Sheridan. They owned a motel here, and Mr. Namtvedt worked at the VA Medical Center until he retired. He enjoyed boating, fishing, big-game hunting and traveling. He was a life member of Masonic Lodge 43, Scottish Rite and Kalif Temple, American Legion, Eagles Lodge and a life member of Elks Lodge 520. A brother, Milo, preceded him in death. Survivors include three daughters, Carol J. Potter of Chantilly, Va., Elizabeth A. Henn of Atlantic, Iowa, and Margaret H. Lenz of Sheridan; and four grandchildren. Dennis Mines

Dennis D. Mines, 53, of Sheridan died Friday, Dec. 7, 2001, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County of natural causes. Vigil services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Kane Funeral Home with Monsignor Eugene Sullivan officiating. He was born in Mitchell, S.D., April 14, 1948, to James and Florence (Kott) Mines. He moved to Farson in 1957 and attended public school there. He was graduated from high school in 1966 and attended Western Wyoming Community College and Weber State College. He served two years with the U.S. Army in Vietnam, then attended the University of Wyoming, where he graduated in 1972 with a bachelor’s degree in industrial arts. While serving in Vietnam, he received numerous awards and decorations including a Bronze Star. He married Jody Roberts, and they had two children. He later married Juanita Russell Aug. 6, 1999, in Ouray, Colo. They moved to Sheridan from Riverton. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. Survivors include his wife of Sheridan; a daughter, Jana of Rochester, Minn.; a son, Scott of Sheridan; two stepsons, Aaron and Matt Russell of Riverton; his parents of Sun City, Ariz.; four brothers, Gary of Rock Springs and Rod, Don and Steve, all of Farson; and two sisters, Carol Diehl of Bullhead City, Ariz., and Marilyn Mathern of Great Falls, Mont. Alma Morrow

Former Sheridan resident Alma Olive (Ellis) Morrow, 87, died Friday, Dec. 7, 2001, of natural causes at her home in Casper. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Bustard’s Funeral Home in Casper with Fr. Royce Brown of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church officiating. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday in Sheridan. Mrs. Morrow was born Nov. 19, 1914, in Lucerne. She graduated high school in Belfry, Mont., where she was on one of that state’s first basketball teams. She attended beauty college in Billings and worked as a beautician for a time in Sheridan. She married Worth Morrow in Thermopolis May 13, 1941. She was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers, Homer and Earl Ellis. Survivors include a son, Wade, and two granddaughters. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Parry Schriver

Sheridan native Parry Schriver, 85, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at his home in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., from complications of chronic lung disease. Private family services have been held. Mr. Schriver was the son of Elmer and Edna Schriver, who opened and operated the P.O. News for more than 50 years. He was a 1934 graduate of Sheridan High School, and completed his education at Kemper Military Academy and Oregon State University. He joined the Federal Aviation Administration, where he spent 35 years before retiring in 1975 in Los Angeles as assistant director of Air Traffic Control for the Western Region. During his retirement, he and his wife spent their summers at Tepee and Eatons’ Dude Ranch. Survivors include his wife, Pat; two daughters, Tricia Crilly of Cheyenne and Catherine McGowan of Marietta, Ga.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

William Cleary

William D. Cleary, 79, of Buffalo died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Private funeral services will be held by his family. He had resided in Buffalo since 1985.

Sheridan County native Nellie E. James, 80, of Burbank, Calif., died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, in a Burbank hospital. Viewing will be 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Monday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. James was born Nov. 17, 1921, in Sheridan County to Robert and Edith (Carter) Strait. She was a graduate of Sheridan High School. She moved to California, living in the Los Angeles area 50 years and moving to Burbank for the last 20. She was a sheet metal worker for United Airlines for 15 years. Survivors include a son, L. Paul James Jr. of Story; a daughter, Clara S. Wyatt of Sun Valley, Calif.; and one grandson.

Chester Davey

Chester L. Davey, 79, of Sheridan died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001, in the Sheridan VA Medical Center. Cremation has taken place, and family services will be this summer with Mr. Davey’s ashes to be spread in the Big Horn Mountains. Mr. Davey was born April 30, 1922, in Richmond, Va., to Wilber and Etta Davey. The family moved to Wyoming when he was 4 years old. He worked in the Acme Mines, the Civilian Conservation Corps camps and was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in the Pacific during World War II. He was a carpenter. Survivors include three sons, Gary of Centerville, Ga., Chet of Thornton, Colo., and Eugene of Ranchester; five daughters, Diane Schilling of Gillette, Karen Moyes of Sheridan, Donna Roberts of Cheyenne, Tina Sanchez of Las Vegas, N.M., and Adriane Arizona of Parkman; a sister, Gwen Randell of Sheridan; a brother, Howard “Dewey” Davey of Denver; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Imogene Mock

Imogene Mock, 82, of Sheridan died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, at Westview Health Care Center. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church with the Revs. David Duprey and Ray Clark co-officiating. Kane Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Mrs. Mock was born Dec. 31, 1918, in Sheridan to Ray and Ella (Guibault) Vest. She was a graduate of Sheridan High School. She married Paul Mock Sept. 28, 1940, at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. She was a homemaker and volunteered at the Sheridan VA Medical Center. She was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, the Daughters of the King, St. Margaret’s, St. Hilda’s and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed spending time at the family’s cabin in the mountains, baking with her friends and playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, in 1992, and by a sister, Bobs Erickson. Survivors include three daughters, Vesta Gale and Nancy Steel, both of Sheridan, and Doti Mock of San Diego; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Donald Carroll

Sheridan native Donald Clifford Carroll, 64, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, in Gunnison, Colo. A celebration of his life was Nov. 26 at the Gunnison Community Church. Mr. Carroll was born Dec. 7, 1936, to Clifford and Genet Carroll of Sheridan. He was a graduate of Sheridan High School and Colorado State University, where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and the college ski team. He married Janet Lee Holcomb of Sheridan Jan. 19, 1963. They moved to Gunnison in 1965, where they owned and operated Carroll’s Sporting Goods. He had been in real estate since 1988. Survivors include his wife of Gunnison; two sons, Todd of Crested Butte, Colo., and Torrey of Reno, Nev.; his mother; a brother, Robert B. Carroll of Sheridan; a sister, Francey Osgard of Yorba Linda, Calif.; and three grandchildren. Ida L. Belus, 91, of Sheridan died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, in Sheridan Manor. No services are planned. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Belus was born July 12, 1910, in Mandan, N.D., to Alfred and Augusta (Linden) Johnson. She attended schools in Mandan. She married Paul “Slim” Belus June 6, 1949, in Sheridan. They ranched east of Sheridan until 1986, when they retired and moved into Sheridan. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1999, and by a brother, Leonard, and three sisters, Ruth, Celia and Clara. Survivors include two sisters, Emma Lenning and Adla Olsen.

Hazel McKennan

Former Sheridan resident Hazel McKennan, 91, of Auburn, Wash., died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, in Auburn, according to her son Don of Sheridan. Cremation has taken place. No services are planned. She was born Nov. 13, 1910, in Moorcroft to I.M. and Ollie Maud Martin. The family ranched in the Upton area, and Mrs. McKennan lived in Sheridan for many years before moving to Washington. Besides her son, survivors include two daughters, Mary Lou Harrison and Wilma Parker, both of Auburn; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Zelma Schaubel

Former Sheridan County resident Zelma L. Schaubel, 93, of Hardin, Mont., died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, at Big Horn County Memorial Nursing Home. Cremation has taken place, and memorial services will be 10 a.m. Friday in Bullis Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mrs. Schaubel was born Oct. 6, 1908, to Joshua E. and Ethaulean Eggert at her grandparents’ home in Sheridan. She married Thomas L. “Fate” Hamilton. She later married Gus Schaubel, and they ranched at Parkman for many years before retiring to Sheridan. She moved to Hardin in 1970 after Mr. Schaubel’s death. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Sandy, and daughter, Virginia. Survivors include two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

Frank Sobotka

Frank R. Sobotka, 76, of Sheridan died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, in the Big Horn Mountains in Johnson County of natural causes. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor William Heine officiating. Kane Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Sobotka was born March 4, 1925, to Frank and Rose (Stopkal) Sobotka. He attended high school, became a master welder at 17 and enlisted in the U.S. Army in June 1943. He served with Gen. Patton’s division as a welder in Normandy, northern France, Ardennes, the Rhineland and Central Europe until his discharge in 1945. He married Alfreda Warne in June 1948 in Sheridan. She died in 1977. He married Sharon Peterson in August 1980. Mr. Sobotka worked as a nursing assistant for 36 years, retiring from the Sheridan VA Medical Center. He enjoyed fishing, fly-tying, hunting, metal sculpturing and spending time with his grandchildren. In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Buchanan. Survivors include his wife, Sharon of Sheridan; two sons, David of Fort Collins, Colo., and Randy of Sheridan; a daughter, Karen Kendrick of Sheridan; three stepdaughters, Juli McDougall and Susan Roller, both of Sheridan, and Carmen Goodman of Casper; three sisters, Marjorie Lundy, Nancy Cook and Barbara DeRusha; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Richard Hall

Former Sheridan resident Richard Grayson Hall, 85, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at his home in Wheatland. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Covenant Lutheran Church in Wheatland with Pastor Paul Ward officiating. Interment will be in Wheatland Cemetery. Visitation is until 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until noon Tuesday at Platte Funeral Chapel of Wheatland. Mr. Hall was born Aug. 2, 1916, in Conova, S.D., to Robert and Mary Elizabeth (Griffin) Hall. He grew up and was educated in Hill City, S.D., and graduated from Hill City High School. He graduated from Black Hills State Teachers College in Spearfish, S.D., and taught and coached in South Dakota for several years. He married Helen Marie Steed July 24, 1941, in Hayti, S.D. He worked for Union Pacific Railroad during World War II. He moved to Sheridan in 1948 and was a teacher and administrator for the school district until 1983, when he retired. During those years, he received a master’s degree in school administration from the University of Wyoming. He was active in boards and organizations in Sheridan including the Kiwanis Club and Trinity Lutheran Church. He moved to Wheatland after retirement. His wife died in 1985. He married Connie Matthews July 3, 1988, in Denver. She died in 2000. In addition to his wives, a brother and sister preceded him in death. Survivors include two daughters, Deanna Trouchon of Wheatland and Gloria Moore of Casper; a son, Alan of Dallas; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Michael Rubidge

Former Sheridan resident Michael L. Rubidge, 46, of Gillette died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, in Campbell County Memorial Hospital from complications of leukemia.
Viewing will be 1-4 p.m. Sunday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Douglas Goodwin officiating. Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mr. Rubidge was born March 30, 1955, in Isleworth, Middlesex, England, near London to Leslie and Lilian (Lucas) Rubidge. The family came to Sheridan when he was 12. He graduated from Sheridan High School. He married Mary Jo Hininger Dec. 26, 1980, in Sheridan. They moved to Gillette in 1983 where he worked for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad for 22 years. He had been an engineer since June 1993. He became an American citizen May 19, 1995. He was an avid photographer and loved cars, motorcycles and taking his dogs for walks. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Gillette. He was preceded in death by his father in 1998. Survivors include his wife, son Sean and daughter Jennifer, all of Gillette; his mother, of Sheridan; and a sister, Suzy Horsley of Sheridan. Homer Alley

DAYTON — Homer F. Alley, 88, of Dayton died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday in the Elks Section of Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with the Rev. Bob Logan and Sheridan Elks Lodge officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Alley was born May 3, 1913, in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada, to Homer Clarence and Ethel (Hart) Alley. He attended grade school in Wyola. He traveled in Michigan, Virginia and Iowa then returned to Dayton. He married Lucille LaToush in 1940 in the Dayton Congregational Church. He joined the Army Operating Engineers during World War II and served in Okinawa, Korea and the Pacific Campaign. He went to work for Peter Kiewit & Sons in 1946, working mostly in Wyoming and Montana. He retired in 1986. He also served as an international representative for Local 2055 of the United Mine Workers of America and was elected to the international board of the UMWA in Washington, D.C. He initiated and coordinated the Black Lung Program for the Western Region, and served as a board member until 1999 when he retired. He was chairman of the Sheridan County Democratic Central Committee four years and was an active member of the party. He was appointed by Gov. Sullivan to the Wyoming State Economic Development Board and was a member of the Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce, Sheridan Elks Lodge 520, the Dayton Odd Fellows and the VFW. He and Lucille were king and queen of Dayton Days in 1989. Survivors include his wife, of Dayton; a daughter, Carol Swift of San Diego, Calif.; two sons, Fredric of North Platte, Neb., and Cedric of Escondido, Calif.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Harry Kinsell

Former Sheridan County resident Harry Kinsell, 81, died Nov. 1, 2001, in El Paso, Texas. Cremation took place, and a memorial service was Nov. 3 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in El Paso with Good Friend Ed Coffee officiating. Mr. Kinsell was born Feb. 28, 1920, in Moriarty, N.M. He married Eileen DeLand in July 1950. They later divorced. He married Vera Baker in January 1963. They divorced in 1990. He lived on Cat Creek in Sheridan County 20 years, until 1991 when he moved to Santa Theresa, N.M., to live with his daughter. While in Sheridan, he was a distributor for Frito-Lay products and started a janitorial service. He was preceded in death by three sisters. Survivors include seven children, Selma Rink of Utah, Kathleen Fernandez of Arizona, Lynette Kinsell of New Mexico, Barbara Smith and Leonard Baker, both of Texas, Deborah Baker of Oregon and Nadine Peterson of Sheridan; a sister, Bertha Ruvalo of New Mexico; 24 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
