Mary K. Anthony

Mary K. Anthony, 70, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, in Sheridan Manor. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Goodwin officiating. Burial will be in the Elks Section of Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mrs. Anthony was born Dec. 12, 1933, in Granite Falls, Minn., to Neal and Jennie Nelson. She grew up and attended schools in Granite Falls and was a 1952 graduate of Granite Falls High School. She married Earl Anthony Nov. 10, 1952, in Granite Falls. The couple moved to Havre, Mont., where they lived for 18 years before moving to Forsyth, Mont. They moved to Sheridan in 1973, and Mrs. Anthony worked at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County and, later, Sheridan VA Medical Center as a licensed practical nurse. She retired in 1995. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Women's League of the Eagles, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, playing bingo and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by one son. Survivors include her husband of Sheridan; a son, Thomas of Sheridan; two daughters, Shirley Grotz of Prescott, Ariz., and Susan Goodman of Sheridan; a brother of Minnesota; a sister of Washington; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

 

Kenneth D. Deutsch

Kenneth D. Deutsch, 46, of Sheridan died Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Visitation will be 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Ray Clark officiating. Cremation will follow, with private family committal services at a later date. Mr. Deutsch was born April 20, 1957, in Durango, Colo., to Andrew Paul and Sylvia (Steiner) Deutsch. He grew up in Sheridan and attended schools here. He was a 1975 graduate of Sheridan High School. He married Connie Jean Badgett Feb. 23, 1979, in Sheridan. He went to work for the Wyoming Department of Transportation six months after graduating from high school and was a construction foreman for WYDOT at the time of his death. He worked part time at the OK Corral. He was a member of the Lutheran Church, enjoyed the mountains, fishing, hunting, cars and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Sheridan Dart League. He was preceded in death by his father. Sand Tami Harnish, both of Sheridan; his mother of Sheridan; and three brothers, urvivors include his wife; a son, Mark of Sheridan; two daughters, Laura Wagner Chris and Raymond of Sheridan and Paul of Ranchester. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

 

Ellen L. Thompson

Ellen L. Thompson, 73, of Sheridan died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at her residence. Vigil services will be 7 p.m. Sunday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral Liturgy will be 10 a.m. Monday in Holy Name Catholic Church with the Rev. Ronald Stolcis as celebrant. Burial will be in Little Big Horn Battlefield National Cemetery in Crow Agency, Mont. Mrs. Thompson was born Aug. 25, 1930, in Gillette to Peter and Margaret (Noonan) Svalina. She grew up and attended school on a ranch near Rozet. She was a 1948 graduate of St. Martin's Academy in Sturgis, S.D., and taught in a country school outside Moorcroft for five or six years. She married Albert Thompson Dec. 4, 1954. They moved to a ranch outside Birney. They moved to Sheridan in 1962. Mrs. Thompson went to work for The Sheridan Press in 1966, working in the mail room until ill health forced her retirement a year ago. She was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family. Survivors include two sons, Robert and Stephen, both of Sheridan; three brothers, Frank Svalina of Oshoto, Jack Svalina of Moorcroft and Tom Svalina of Gillette; a sister, Mary Ann Woods of Boise, Idaho; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

 

Ernest Eugene Williams

Ernest Eugene Williams, 84, of Sheridan died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, in Deaconess Medical Center in Billings. Cremation has taken place, and services are pending. Mr. Williams was born Sept. 6, 1919, to Harry Ernest Williams and Alice Iona (Bremer) Williams. He married Leona Long. He served in the Navy during World War II as a cook. He enjoyed cooking all his life and belonged to Elks Club and First Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, three brothers and two sisters. Survivors include his daughters, Sondra Williams and Debra McCoul; three sisters, Lois Rogers, Norma Grimm and Emma Jane Martin; two brothers, Richard and Donald; and a granddaughter.

 

John Clifford Hutchinson

John Clifford Hutchinson, 68, of Sheridan died Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Name Catholic Church with the Rev. Ronald Stolcis officiating. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Hutchinson was born July 30, 1935, in Monarch to John and Elizabeth (Guy) Hutchinson. He married Joan Obert May 28, 1967. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. He was a Little League coach for 18 years. He was preceded in death by a son, Jack, and two sisters, Mary Margaret and Dorothy. Survivors include his wife; five sons, Joseph, Dan, Raymond, Edward and Tom, all of Sheridan; two daughters, Barbara Lassen of Sheridan and Theresa Zimmerman of Canyon City, Colo.; a sister, Doris Richards of Sheridan; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Ida Perkins

Former Sheridan resident Ida Perkins, 93, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, in the Bonnie Bluejacket Nursing Home in Basin. Memorial services will be announced later. Arrangements are with Atwood Funeral Home in Basin. Mrs. Perkins was born Dec. 14, 1910, in Gettysburg, S.D., to George W. and Ida M. Thompson. She graduated from Gettysburg High School and was employed by Dakota Power Co. in Gettysburg for seven years. She moved to Basin in 1937. She married Charles Preator Perkins Jan. 17, 1938, in Billings. She worked for Mountain Bell/AT&T until 1958, when the family moved to Riverton, where Mr. and Mrs. Perkins were employed by Union Carbide. Mr. Perkins died in 1994, and Mrs. Perkins moved to Sheridan to be near her daughter. She was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Basin. She enjoyed being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, cooking and scrapbooking. Survivors include a son, Charles of Casper; a daughter Georgia Huckeby of Sheridan; a sister, Dorothy Maul of Gettysburg; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Norma Y. Hammond

Norma Yvonne Hammond, 67, of Sheridan died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at her residence. Cremation has taken place, and private family services will be at a later date. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Hammond was born April 9, 1936, in Independence, Mo., to Harrison and Beulah Rhyan. She married Charles “Smokey” Hammond April 6, 1968, in Las Vegas. She enjoyed playing the piano and doing crossword puzzles. She was an avid reader. She was preceded in death by a son, Harrison Henry Hammond. Survivors include her husband; four daughters, Shelly Orr and Patty Damer, both of Dallas, and Charlene Hammond and Samantha Lacey, both of Sheridan; a brother, Don Rhyan of Kansas City, Kan.; and seven grandchildren. E. Peter Erland Jr.

E. Peter Erland Jr., 65, of Glenview, Ill., died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003, in Jupiter, Fla. Mr. Erland was a part-time resident of Sheridan for 25 years. Cremation has taken place, and services will be Saturday at the Lutheran Church of the Ascension in Northfield, Ill. Mr. Erland was owner and operator of Erland's Electrical Contractors in Glenview for 45 years before he retired. Survivors include his wife, Donna S. Erland; a daughter, Kimberly Vukovinski; a son, E. Peter III; and four grandchildren. Memorials may be made in his memory to the Yellowstone Park Foundation, 222 E. Dorothy Furrow

Sheridan native Dorothy Ann (Bordeaux) Furrow, 76, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, at Immanuel Lutheran Home in Kalispell, Mont., according to her family. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Buffalo Hill Funeral Home in Kalispell. Burial will be in Conrad Cemetery. Mrs. Furrow was born Aug. 19, 1927, in Sheridan to John and Anna Bordeaux. She graduated from Sheridan High School and attended Seattle University. She married Allen Furrow in 1948 in Seattle. The family lived in Seattle and California before settling in Kalispell. Survivors include four children, Doug Furrow and Terry Bjornrud, both of Kalispell, Becky Casper of Casper and Ken Furrow of Missoula, Mont.; and six grandchildren. Memorials may be sent to the Dorothy Furrow Memorial Fund in care of the family home or to the Immanuel Lutheran Home in Kalispell.

Richard Frisco Stevens

Richard Frisco Stevens, 83, of Sheridan died Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, at his residence. Visitation is until 2:30 p.m. today at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral services are 3 p.m. today at the funeral home with the Rev. Wilbur Holz officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with military rites by the Marine Corps League and American Legion. Mr. Stevens was born Nov. 29, 1920, in Sheridan to Joseph and Bernice (Rowland) Phennings. He grew up and attended schools in Sheridan and Buffalo. He married Virginia Lee Lilley Feb. 10, 1940, in Hardin, Mont. He served in the tank division of the 6th Marine Division during World War II. Mr. Stevens worked on many ranches in the Sheridan area as a teenager. He later joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and helped build Sibley Dam in the Big Horn Mountains. He worked in the coal mines in Acme and Monarch. After serving in the Marines, he worked in the mining industry in Montana, Washington and Arizona. He and his wife returned to Sheridan after he retired. He was preceded in death by several siblings. Survivors include his wife; a son, Richard L. of Bellevue, Wash.; two daughters, Patricia M. Anderson of Sheridan and Diana G. Stevens of Denver; a brother, Don J. of Baxter Springs, Kan.; a sister, Mildred Russell of Dayton; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren. Ole F. Johnson

Ole Frederick Johnson Jr., 70, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003, at his Sheridan home. Rosary will be recited 7 p.m. today at Kane Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Name Church, the Rev. Ron Stolcis officiating, with burial in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Born Dec. 23, 1932, in Glendive, Mont., to Ole and Violet (Rader) Johnson, he served in the Navy from 1952 to 1956. He served in the Korean War and received the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Navy Occupation Medal. He married Shirley Barbula on Jan. 12, 1963, in Ranchester. Mr. Johnson worked 30 years in various jobs at Sheridan VA Medical Center. A lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, he also belonged to the Eagles. He enjoyed visiting, fishing, hunting, ranching, gardening and making furniture. A brother preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Curtiss and Lennie; a daughter, Crystal Burkee; two brothers, George of Whitehall, Mont., and William of Billings; three sisters, June Matovich, Columbus, Mont., and Janaire Reed and Joyce Pietz, both of Billings; and seven grandchildren. Helen M. Gilson

Helen M. Gilson, 88, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, at Sheridan Manor. Cremation has taken place, and private family services will be later. The cremains of Mrs. Gilson and her husband will also be memorialized later at the family ranch. Born July 30, 1915, in Iowa to Fred and Letha (Gafney) Duvall, she taught country school before marrying Vergil J. Gilson on July 4, 1940, in Terry, Mont. Mrs. Gilson was a full-time homemaker. Survivors include a sister, Jean Frey, Buffalo; a son, Johny Gilson, Ketchikan, Alaska; a daughter, Peggy Thylur, Westminster, Colo.; a son, Lee Gilson, Sheridan; six grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. Berti Hillyer Stiteler Lund

STORY — Bertie Hillyer Stiteler Lund, 83, of Story died Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, in Sheridan Manor. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Goodwin officiating. An informal reception at the funeral home for family and friends will follow services. Private family committal services will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Big Horn. Mrs. Lund was born July 20, 1920, at Wolf Creek, Mont., to George “Charlie” and Etta Bell (Surrena) Hillyer. She became known for her work as an interior designer. She collected artwork and special pieces throughout the world. Some of her work is on exhibit in businesses and at the Ucross Foundation. She also designed jewelry and marketed custom-made bead necklaces under the name Bertie's Beads. She was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers. Survivors include a son, Clyde (Chuck) Stiteler of California; a sister, Agnes VanNoy of Carmel, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Eva M. Shosten, 93, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, in Sheridan Manor. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Kane Funeral Home with Pastor Chuck Gifford officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mrs. Shosten was born March 23, 1910, in Greenville, Ill., to Harry and Ruby (Narred) Kershner. She married William B. Shosten Nov. 5, 1926, in Hardin, Mont. She worked for J.C. Penney as a sales clerk for 40 years. She enjoyed attending church circle meetings at First Baptist Church, crocheting afghans and knitting. She was preceded in death by her husband, a 3-year-old daughter, two brothers and two sisters. Survivors include a son, William, and daughter, Ruby J. “Mick” Mediate, both of Sheridan; a sister, Ruth Hanson of Buffalo; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Mary Elizabeth Foley

Mary Elizabeth (Redinger) Foley, 74, of Spearfish, S.D., died Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, at her residence. She was sister of Edith Blakeman of Sheridan. Visitation is 7 p.m. today at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church in Spearfish. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, S.D. Arrangements are with Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel of Spearfish. Mrs. Foley was born April 1, 1929 in Lead, S.D. She had lived in Spearfish 12 years and was a member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church. Survivors include four daughters, Faye Heideggar of Yacalt, Wash., Mira Sheadel of Amboy, Wash., Cindy Vega of Litchfield, Minn., and Doreen North of Kimball, Minn.; four sons, Richard of Buffalo, Minn., Timothy of Elkton, Md., Gerald of Spearfish and Fred of South Haven, Minn.; two other sisters, Dorothy Stewart of Sundance and Marge Kysar of Odessa, Wash.; one brother, Donald Redinger of Spearfish; 49 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.

 

Myron Bjornstad

Myron “Sonny” Bjornstad, 72, of Campbell County died Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, in Campbell County Memorial Hospital in Gillette. He was a member of the Kalif Shrine Temple in Sheridan. Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Friday in Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel in Gillette with Pastor Charles Small of Gillette's Grace Bible Church officiating. Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Mr. Bjornstad was born Oct. 18, 1931, in Keene, N.D., to Marjorie (Hedge) and Ryder O. Bjornstad. He graduated from high school in 1949. He worked at different restaurants across Wyoming before entering the U.S. Army in 1958. He married Vee McKim Nov. 11, 1967, in Casper. They lived in different areas of the state until 1987, when Mr. Bjornstad retired and they moved to Gillette. Mr. Bjornstad was a member of the Masonic Lodge and American Legion. He was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Ralph. Survivors include his wife, of Gillette; six children, Julie Jackson and Rob Snider, both of Casper, Billy Percifield of Billings, Donnie Percifield and Kelly McKim, both of Gillette, and Toni Kell of Glendale, R.I.; a brother, Bill Bjornstad of Surprise, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A memorial has been established in Mr. Bjornstad's name with the Shrine Crippled Children's Fund of Sheridan.

Peggy Miller

Peggy Miller, 90, of Sheridan died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, in Sheridan Manor. A celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Family graveside services will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mrs. Miller was born Oct. 27, 1913, in Beckton to Edward S. and Benitta (Dow) Townsend. She started school at Beckton, later attended Beaver Creek School and graduated from Sheridan High School. She married Robert Miller Aug. 29, 1933, in Billings. They ranched throughout Sheridan County and at Garryowen, Mont. They purchased a ranch on Lower Piney in 1956. Mrs. Miller cooked for the hired men and worked in the fields with her husband for many years. She was a member of the Piney Women's Club and Sheridan County Cowbells. She enjoyed riding her favorite horse, Poncho. Her last ride was at age 82. She also enjoyed quilting, gardening, irrigating and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her husband. Survivors include a son, Robert G. Miller of Banner; a daughter, Barbara Bovee of Anchorage, Alaska; three brothers, Jim Townsend of Sheridan, Roy Townsend of Billings and Ed Townsend of Yuba City, Calif.; two sisters, Dora Davidson and Bernice Renie, both of Story; four granddaughters; and several great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

 

Lois L. Pense

Lois L. Pense, 84, of Sheridan died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Cremation has taken place, and at Mrs. Pense's request, no services will be held. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Pense was born April 22, 1919, in Cold Water, Kan., to Neal and Jesse (Beeney) Plaster. She married George H. Pense May 20, 1947, in Hardin, Mont. She worked for many years as a waitress. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Zola Schaffer, and a grandson. Survivors include her husband; a son, Jerry O'Daniels of Sheridan; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Eleanor I. Hosler

Eleanor I. “Grams” Hosler, 87, of Sheridan died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, in Sheridan Manor. Memorial services were Monday at Sheridan Square with the Rev. Doug Goodwin officiating. Arrangements were with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Hosler was born July 7, 1916, in Colorado to Thomas and Mary (Turnbull) Denton. She married Roy Hosler Aug. 29, 1934. She passed her GED in 1973 and obtained her license as a practical nurse in 1974. She worked at the Crowley County Nursing Home in Ordway, Colo., until 1979. She was preceded in death by her husband. Survivors include her son, Stephen of Alameda, Calif.; a daughter, Patty Bohn of Sheridan; a sister, Ethel Bamford of Grand Junction, Colo.; a brother, Joseph Denton of Moriarity, N.M.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. HARDIN, Mont. — Frederick Allen Blansky, 75, of Hardin died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, in Billings Deaconess Hospital. Funeral services were this morning in Bullis Funeral Chapel in Hardin. Burial with military honors followed in the Hardin Fairview Cemetery.

BUFFALO — Al Wagner, 59, of Buffalo died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at his residence following a long battle with cancer. George Taylor

George Alvin Taylor, 73, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, in Sheridan Manor. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday in Willow Grove Cemetery, Buffalo, with the Rev. Glen Wessel officiating. The American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars will be in charge of military graveside services. Refreshments will be served at Buffalo Wesleyan Church following services. Visitation will be 1-10 p.m. Sunday and 8-9:30 a.m. Monday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel, Buffalo. Mr. Taylor was born July 14, 1930, in Buffalo to Alva Clyde Taylor and Velroa Adeline Taylor. He grew up on a ranch near Sussex and attended the Sussex school. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in December 1948 and was part of the “Hell on Wheels” 2nd Armored Division. He was a Korean War veteran. He married Lila June Jenkins June 4, 1950, in Buffalo. They lived on various ranches in the Kaycee, Hulett and Buffalo areas. He and his wife purchased a ranch on Rock Creek and lived there until moving to Sheridan in 2001. Mr. Taylor worked for the Johnson County road and bridge crew from 1975 until he retired in 1992. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and other outdoor activities. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Mike, Tom and Larry, all of Buffalo; three daughters, Penny Forbes and Ronda Schlichting, both of Buffalo, and Tina Conklin of Newcastle; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Dialysis Unit at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County in care of Adams Funeral Home.

Former Sheridan resident Josephine L. Beckley, 82, of San Francisco died Friday, Nov. 21, 2003, according to her caretaker. Ms. Beckley was born April 1, 1921, in Sheridan to Jesse L. and Anna M. Beckley. She attended Holy Name School and Sheridan High School, Fontbonne College in St. Louis, and was a graduate of the University of Nebraska. She lived in San Francisco 55 years. Jemma Carmella Bumbaca, 89, of Sheridan died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Viewing is until 4 p.m. today at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Reader Richard Mumma. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Ms. Bumbaca was born March 11, 1914, in Carneyville (later renamed Kleenburn) to Nick and Fortunata (Marzano) Bumbaca. She started school at Kleenburn, then moved to Sheridan and attended John S. Taylor Elementary. She graduated from Sheridan High School in 1934. She helped in the family store, Economy Grocery, and clerked at the New York Store. She became manager of Alamo Liquor Store, the first retail liquor store in Sheridan County, in 1947. She was a member of the Church of Christian Science. She enjoyed reading, Bible lessons and listening to concert music. She also enjoyed going out to lunch with family and friends. She was a longtime member of the Professional Business Women's Association. She was preceded in death by five sisters, Mary T. Luster, Helen Webb, Mary E. Bumbaca, Rose Carbone and Josephine Montegna; and by two brothers, Dominick Montegna and Bruno Montegna. Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews. Dorothy M. Hillberry, 83, of Sheridan died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Cremation has taken place, and at Mrs. Hillberry's request, no services are planned. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Hillberry was born March 16, 1920, in Sheridan to Carl and Madge (Bolin) Barton. She graduated from Sheridan High School in 1938. She married Charles Hillberry in 1978. He died in 2002. rs. Hillberry worked as a nurse's aide, then at Montgomery Ward for many years. She was preceded in death by husbands Claude Meinter and Glenn Roush in addition to Mr. Hillberry. Survivors include a daughter, Claudia Paulsen of Billings; two stepdaughters, Ellen Hepp and Wanda Huston, both of Sheridan; a stepson, Andrew Hillberry of Dryden, Mich.; and eight grandchildren. Floyd C. Barbour

Floyd C. “Stub” Barbour, 98, of Sheridan died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, at his residence. Visitation is until 5 p.m. today and 8-10 a.m. Tuesday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with Pastor Doug Melius officiating. Burial will be in the Elks Section of Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mr. Barbour was born March 7, 1905, in the Indian Territory near Nowata, Okla., to Clyde and Mallissa (Patchett) Barbour. The family moved to Newcastle in 1915. Mr. Barbour became a Sheridan resident in 1923 as a junior in high school, where he played football and basketball. He was a welder and boilermaker for CB&Q Railroad in Sheridan, working in the roundhouse. He later worked as a welder on the tipple at Monarch until the mid-1950s. He also worked at Paul Dowdy's gas station until he retired in 1971. He married Selena Morgan Feb. 6, 1932, in Billings. He belonged to First Presbyterian Church in Sheridan and served as a deacon for many years. He also was a member of Sheridan Elks Lodge. After retirement, he was an avid golfer, playing 18 holes nearly every day into his 80s. He had a hole in one. Mr. Barbour also enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his wife; three brothers, Russell, Guy and Vern; two sisters, Vera and Grace; one son, Phillip; and one daughter, Marilyn. Survivors include a son, Alan of Laramie; a special friend, Virginia McClintock; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

HARDIN, Mont. — Arthur Daniel Hayford, 81, of Hardin died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, in Billings Deaconess Medical Center. Cremation has taken place.
