BUFFALO Lillian O. Stenseng, 99, of Buffalo died Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004, in Amie Holt Care Center in Buffalo. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday in the Adams Funeral Home Chapel with Capt. Keith Bottjen officiating. Visitation will be noon until 9 p.m. Thursday and 8-9:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Willow Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army in care of the funeral home.
Florence Dorothy, 89, of Sheridan died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, at her daughter's Sheridan residence. At her request, no services are planned. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Dorothy was born July 14, 1915, in Savery to Albert Lincoln Jiggs and Martha Jane (Findley) Hutchison. She grew up in Dixon and Kleenburn. She attended school in Kleenburn and Sheridan High School through the 10th grade. She married Ted Dorothy on March 9, 1937, in Bridgeport, Neb. The couple worked on ranches in the Sheridan and Birney, Mont., areas and in Oregon. They moved to Sundance in 1959 and worked for Dorothy Carnegie until they retired. Through the years, they took many children into their family. Mrs. Dorothy enjoyed cooking, gardening, hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, eight brothers and sisters and one grandson. Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Jean Smith of Sheridan; a foster daughter, Donna Carnegie of Portland, Ore.; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren. Helen Zingham, 86, of Sheridan died Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004, in the Sheridan VA Medical Center. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. William Heine officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Zingham was born Nov. 17, 1918, in Freeman, S.D., to Albert and Adella (Neoring) Pidde. She joined the Marines after the outbreak of World War II and served until 1946, when she was honorably discharged. She married Richard Dick Zingham in 1952 in Forest Park, Ill. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Sheridan Horse Patrol. She was a housewife and helped on the family farm. She enjoyed gardening and canning. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Herb, Wally and Marty. Survivors include two sons, Rick of Story and Scott of Sheridan; a daughter, Joyce McGregor of Sheridan; two brothers, Ted Pidde of Freenzan, S.D., and Al Pidde of Charleston, S.C.; two sisters, Elise Miller of Oak Park, Ill., and Alice Reynolds of Oklahoma City; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Herman Kreger, 90, died Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, in the Sheridan VA Medical Center. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. William Heine officiating. Burial of cremains will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Kreger was born Nov. 23, 1914, to John and Amelia Molly Barret Kreger in Laurel, Mont. The family moved to the Sheridan area in 1920. Mr. Kreger served in the Army as a first sergeant from November 1943-January 1946. He ranched from 1937-40, then worked at Gambles Store and Northern Lumber Co. He worked at Sheridan Flouring Mill from 1947 until 1966 when it closed, and owned the Maytag Coin-Operated Laundry for 14 years until retiring in 1978. He married Mabel Schnorf on Jan. 14, 1938. She preceded him in death after 50 years of marriage. He married Ruth (Howarth) Badget on July 8, 1988. He was commander of the American Legion from 1957-58. He enjoyed travel, hunting and fishing in the Big Horn Mountains and on Lake DeSmet. He was an avid gardner and was honored for Yard of the Week one summer. He had a collection of 85 or more caps. In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Herman Edward Kreger, in 1963; two brothers, John and Victor; a sister, Emma Lee Nelson; and a grandson. Survivors include his wife of Sheridan; two daughters, Karen Lee Roth and Donna Kay Kepp; a stepson, Wayne T. Wagner; two sisters, Millie Loeber and Esther Badget (Tink); seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Robert Hawbecker Byers, 89, of Sheridan died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, in the Sheridan VA Medical Center. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Wilbur Holz officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with military rites by the Wyoming National Guard and American Legion. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Byers was born Jan. 25, 1915, in Waynesboro, Pa., to Benjamin and May (Hawbecker) Byers. The family moved to Washington, D.C., when he was a year old. He was a 1933 graduate of McKinley High School. He married Lucille Replogle on March 10, 1945, in Baltimore. Mr. Byers worked for Wilkins Coffee in Baltimore for nine years. He was drafted into the Army in 1941. He was later discharged for medical reasons. He later worked as a purser on a ship out of Baltimore, a private investigator, a clerk typist with the VA and a veterans benefits counselor. He was transferred to Sheridan VAMC in 1966 and retired from there. He worked with All American Indian Days and the Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He enjoyed being with his family, church, his friends at the Senior Center, Bible study, history, helping people, gardening, cooking, travel, hiking in the Big Horn Mountains, cross-country skiing, square dancing and telling stories to his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and two sisters, Miriam and Helen. Survivors include two sons, Alan of Bellview, Neb., and Daniel of Douglas, Alaska; two daughters, Alice Baker of Big Horn and Mary Ellen Byers of Hamilton, Mont.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.

Sheridan native Jimmy Lee Brosius, 66, of Buffalo died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, at Johnson County Healthcare Center. Private family services are Jan. 3 at Adams Funeral Home, Buffalo. Visitation is noon to 9 p.m. Sunday and 8 a.m. to noon Monday at the funeral home. Born Feb. 13, 1938, in Sheridan to Ormand Smokey and Myrle Brosius, he attended school in Buffalo and joined the Navy. He married Virginia Hall in 1968, and they lived in Lovell. They separated in 1984, and Mr. Brosius moved to Sheridan, where he worked for the PK Ranch. He also lived in Hot Springs, S.D., for a time. He married Mary Warnock in 2000 and that year went to work as a cowboy for the C.K. Lawrence ranch at Clearmont. He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed cowboying, horses and dogs. Survivors include his wife; a son, Tim Brosius, Bakersfield, Calif.; three stepsons, Robert of Phoenix, David of New Jersey, and Ronny Brosius; a stepdaughter, Denise Clem, Marino Valley, Calif.; and four grandchildren. Friends may donate to the family to help with funeral expenses.

Robert H. Byers, 89, Sheridan, died Friday, Dec. 17, 2004, at Sheridan VA Medical Center. Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, the Rev. Wilbur Holz officiating. Former Sheridan resident Charles Raymond Chuck Pfeifer, 84, died Friday, Dec. 17, 2004, in St. Louis, where he had lived for the last 15 months. Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, the Rev. Don Derryberry officiating. Burial is in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with military rites by the Wyoming National Guard and American Legion. A reception will be at the church immediately following burial. Born in Albion, Mich., to Paul Amos and Gladys Shepard Pfeifer, he studied the violin as a young boy and enjoyed baseball. He married Doris Cornwell on July 3, 1941, and joined the Army shortly thereafter. He served in World War II and the Korean War, receiving the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Air Medal, U.S. and Korean Presidential Medals and seven Battle Stars. He attended Advanced Officers School and Army Intelligence School before he and his family spent a tour of duty in Japan and two tours in Germany in addition to U.S. posts. He was honored to have been on special assignment at military headquarters in Little Rock, Ark., during the initial high school integration there. While acting as Army adviser to the National Guard in Colorado, he was instrumental in implementing the use of howitzer cannons for avalanche control. He retired as lieutenant colonel in 1965 and moved to Denver, where he was active in administering American Legion baseball and volunteered with his son's high school varsity baseball team. The Pfeifers moved to Sheridan in 1972. They owned and operated C Bar D Cabinets & Lighting until selling the business in 1989. Mr. Pfeifer enjoyed golf and woodworking; his specialty was children's rocking chairs, cradles and riding toys. After his wife died in 1997, he traveled extensively on his Honda. An infant sister also preceded him in death. A charter member of Big Horn Homebuilders Association, he also served on the original Kendrick Golf Course Commission and belonged to Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church and is remembered there for his many woodworking projects. Survivors include a daughter, Cheryl Fillion, St. Louis; a son, Paul Pfeifer, Sheridan; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Memorials may benefit First United Methodist Church. Hilda Bumbaca, 81, of Sheridan died Monday, Dec. 20, 2004, in St. Vincent Healthcare in Billings. Viewing will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. William Heine officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Elks Cemetery. Mrs. Bumbaca was born July 31, 1923, in Yonkers, N.Y., to Jacob and Katherine (Pfief) Stroh, who had moved there from Billings. The family returned to Billings in 1925, and Mrs. Bumbaca attended Garfield Elementary School and Billings High School. She married James P. Bumbaca on April 26, 1949, in Rock Springs. The couple moved to Sheridan and owned and operated Club 87 for 28 years, until 1977 when they retired. Mrs. Bumbaca was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, Jacob Stroh. Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Routh of Sheridan; a sister, Charlotte Vincelette of Billings; a grandson; and three great-grandchildren. Rose Buszkiewic, 79, of Sheridan died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Ron Stolcis officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mrs. Buszkiewic was born May 18, 1925, in Acme to George and Mary (Kawulok) Legerski. She attended Acme grade school and graduated from Sheridan High School. She married George J. Buszkiewic on Sept. 28, 1947, in St. Thomas Church in Monarch. The lived on the family ranch on Ash Creek. Mrs. Buszkiewic enjoyed flowers, gardening, feeding and watching birds, cooking and baking, and spending time with her animals, especially her dog Lucky. She was a member of St. Edmunds Catholic Church of Ranchester and past member of Tongue River Women's Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers and three sisters. Survivors include a daughter, Linda Vanatta of Ash Creek; a son, George E. of Sheridan; five brothers, Joe, George, Frank, Ted and Anton Legerski; a sister, Agnes Fletcher; three step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Mielke was born Jan. 25, 1909, in Emerson, Iowa, to John and Minnie (Glandon) Klepinger. She married Richard Mielke in Norma, Okla., in 1929. She was a homemaker and a bookkeeper. She enjoyed roses, fishing and hunting. She was preceded in death by her husband. Survivors include a brother, George Klepinger, and a sister, Millie Carroll, both of Sheridan.

Mary Morel, 92, of Sheridan died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with the Rev. Dan Keller officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Morel was born Jan. 20, 1912, on a ranch near Gillette to Timothy and Cecelia (Lackous) Gupton. She was a graduate of Campbell County High School and attended normal training to become a teacher. She taught rural school for several years north of Gillette. She married Charles Morel on Feb. 28, 1937, in Sheridan. They moved to St. Petersburg, Alaska, and resided there two years before moving to Gillette and, in 1941, to Sheridan. They lived in the Woodland Park area, and Mrs. Morel worked in the Woodland Park School cafeteria for 17 years. She was a charter member of the McCormick Homemaker's Club. She enjoyed gardening and raising flowers, especially roses. She also enjoyed watching birds in her yard and visiting with friends and family. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1986 and a brother, Chester Gupton. Survivors include a son, Steve of Sewell, N.J.; two daughters, Kathleen Nance of Sheridan and Caralee Knapp of Limestone, Tenn.; a brother, Sam Gupton of Tomahawk, Alberta, Canada; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Big Horns, 1401 W. Fifth St., Sheridan, or the American Heart Association.
Sheridan native Cecil Macklyn Halstead, 63, of New Mexico died Monday, Dec. 13, 2004. Graveside committal services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens & Mausoleum in Albany, Ore., under direction of Twin Oaks Funeral Home of Albany. Mr. Halstead was born and grew up in Sheridan and was a 1960 graduate of Sheridan High School. He married Judith (Best) Morgan in 1970. He worked at Quick Print and the Mills Co. in Sheridan until 1980, when he moved to Hamilton, Mont. He owned and operated Sapphire Printing there until 1988. He later worked in several other states. He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters. Survivors include his wife; a sister, Ardith Kellog of Laramie; a daughter, Deana Stoios of Warren, N.J.; three sons, Taylor, John and Rod, all of Albany; and eight grandchildren.

Barbara Ann Schaffer, 69, of Sheridan died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004, at her residence. Visitation is until 5 p.m. today at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. William Heine officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mrs. Schaffer was born July 13, 1935, in Sheridan to Fred and Bernice (Gosch) Kinter. She grew up and attended schools in Sheridan and was a 1955 graduate of Sheridan High School. She married Elmer Schaffer on Feb. 15, 1959, in Sheridan. She was a homemaker and mother before going to work for J.C. Penney Co. She worked at the store until 1995, when she retired. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and enjoyed sewing, crafts, reading and spending time with her family. Survivors include her husband; her mother, of Sheridan; a son, Robert L. of Sheridan; a daughter, Kim Wagner of Sheridan; two brothers, Christian and Alfred Kinter; eight sisters, Bernice, Norma, Evelyn, Georgia Kay, Anna, Peggy, Judy and Karen; and three grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1300 W. Fifth St., Sheridan, WY 82801.
Sheridan County native Jean O'Connor, 76, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, at the home of her daughter in Sparks, Nev., after a long battle with ovarian cancer. Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of her life will be later. At her request, there will be no services. Arrangements are with John Sparks Memorial. Mrs. O'Connor was born June 25, 1928, in Monarch to Nick and Lucia (Paolone) Julio. She attended schools in Thermopolis, Ucross and Clearmont and was a 1946 graduate of Cheyenne Central High School. She was a 1950 graduate of the University of Wyoming and a member of UW's Chi Omega. She retired from the Veterans Administration in 1992 in Reno, Nev., where she worked in the nuclear medicine department. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Ida Rotolo, Mary Julio and Rose Fowler. Survivors include a son, Daniel of Reno; a daughter, Katherine Katie Hauck of Sparks; a brother, Julio of Denver; and two sisters, Delma Latham of Salem, Ore., and Lucile Thompson of Pine Bluffs.

Stephen Robert Van Tuyl, 55, Sheridan, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, in Australia while on vacation. Services are 1 p.m. Saturday at First Christian Church, followed by a reception in the church fellowship hall. Born July 22, 1949, in Whittier, Calif., to M.R. Bob and Maxine Van Tuyl, he married Brenda Harris on March 11, 1972, in Casper. Mr. Van Tuyl drove school bus No. 4 for Sheridan County District 2 for the last eight years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, diving and, most of all, travel. A member of Sheridan County Sportsmen's Association, he was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Heather Criswell, Gold Bar, Wash., and Tara Van Tuyl, Sheridan; a brother, Michael Van Tuyl, San Diego; a sister, Kathy Insalada, Las Vegas; and a grandson. Memorials may benefit Sheridan Dog & Cat Shelter, 84 East Ridge Road.
Thomas Michael Legerski Sr., 82, Sheridan, died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Rosary will be recited 7 p.m. Thursday at Kane Funeral Home. Victoria Vicky May Beaird, 63, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004, in Sheridan Manor after a long illness. Services, conducted by family members, are 2 p.m. Friday at Worden Funeral Directors Chapel in Newcastle. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Newcastle. Born Aug. 29, 1941, in Upton to Clarence and Nettie (Ballieu) Oleson, she worked as a corrections officer for the Wyoming Women's Prison in Lusk, the Wyoming Honor Farm in Newcastle, and as a security guard for the Eldorado Hotel in Reno, Nev. Mrs. Beaird enjoyed fishing, quilting, reading, and spending time with her great-grandchildren. Her husband, John, preceded her in death. Wilma A. Curtis, 83, of Cheyenne died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, in Cheyenne. She was sister of Dorothy Enzi of Sheridan. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Cheyenne with the Revs. Nadine Korhonen, Blaine Scott and Wes Kendall officiating. Burial will be in Cheyenne Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are with Widerspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes. Mrs. Curtis was born Dec. 10, 1920, in Hysham, Mont., to Albert and Marie Bradley. She was a 1937 graduate of Hysham High School and a graduate of Billings Business College. She had lived in Cheyenne since 1972. She retired from federal civil service after 22 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Daughters of the Nile, Eastern Star, Cheyenne Women's Bowling Association and United Medical Center Auxiliary. She was a 62-year member of Beta Sigma Phi. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin W. Curtis. Survivors include a son, Bob of Cheyenne; a stepdaughter, Edwina LoGiudice of Toms River, N.J.; another sister, Marie Wescott of Billings; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Dorothy M. Rudser, 90, of Golden Valley, Minn., died Monday, Dec. 6, 2004, in Northridge Care Center in New Hope, Minn. She was mother of Karen Lidahl of Sheridan. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Calvary Lutheran Church in Golden Valley. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Park. Arrangements are with Gill Bros. funeral home. Mrs. Rudser was the last surviving child of Charles and Thrina Nash. She was a graduate of Minneapolis North High School and was former secretary for the Minneapolis city engineer's office. She married Stanton Rudser on May 10, 1936. They lived in Deer River and Cass Lake before settling in Minneapolis in 1941. Mrs. Rudser worked as a church organist and at L.B.I. She taught many classes in Norwegian knitting. She was an active member of the Calvary Altar Guild, the Minnesota Iris Society and Sons of Norway. She was preceded in death by her husband and four siblings. Survivors include four other children, Joan Hately of Anchorage, Alaska, Marion Nordin of Wilmar, Minn., Charles of Bloomington, Minn., and Don of Golden Valley; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. George H. Pense, 81, Sheridan, died Monday, Dec. 6, 2004, at Westview Health Care Center. Cremation has taken place, and no services are scheduled. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Born Oct. 12, 1923, in Martin Village, Mont., to Henry and Josephine (Lesach), he married Lois Plaster on May 20, 1947, in Hardin, Mont. Mr. Pense worked 25 years as a truck supervisor for Wyoming Sawmills. He enjoyed trucks and his family. He was preceded in death by his wife and a stepdaughter, Zola Schaffer. Sheridan native Karen Marlene Ayles, 61, died Monday, Dec. 6, 2004, at her Buffalo home. Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo, Pastor Bob McHenry officiating. Visitation is 1-9 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Saturday at the chapel. Graveside services in Willow Grove Cemetery, Buffalo, will follow the funeral. Born June 13, 1943, in Sheridan to Ben and Dorothy Maxine Ayles, she grew up here and attended Sheridan High School. She worked as a cook at the Golden Steer and Palace Cafe. She moved in the early 1970s to Buffalo, where she cooked at the truck stop, Zorzeko Club and Mexican Steer. She retired in 2000 due to ill health. Survivors include a sister, Dixie Bettcher of Sheridan; a brother, Douglas Ayles of Surprise, Ariz.; three nephews; a niece; and two great-nephews. Wilma Ellis, 76, Sheridan, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be in January with arrangements by Kane Funeral Home. Born Aug. 29, 1928, in Cornstock, Neb., to Oscar and Vivian (Allen) Rissler, she worked as a bookkeeper for Pacific Hide and Fur in Billings. She later moved to Arrowhead Lodge at Burgess Junction, which she owned and operated from 1969 to 1976, before moving to Sheridan. In this area, she also worked at a ranch in Birney, Mont., kept books and tended bar for the Moose Lodge, and as a family caretaker. She enjoyed life and taking care of others. Survivors include her husband, Eldon White; three daughters, Linda Waycik of Lower Lake, Calif., Pat Ashlock of Sheridan, and Margo Arcoren of Rock Springs; a stepson, Jay Ellis of Sheridan; a sister, Arwilda Dockhorn of Lincoln, Neb.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may benefit the homeless shelter in care of Karen Green, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801.

TORRINGTON Clark H. Mullock, 94, father of Karen Townsend of Sheridan, died Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, at Community Hospital. Graveside services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Valley View Cemetery. Visitation is until 7 p.m. today at Colyer Funeral Home. Born March 8, 1910, in Parnell, Mo., to George and Vina (Dodd) Mullock, he grew up, attended school, and worked in Missouri before moving to California, where he worked one year with his brother in a bakery. He then returned to Missouri to help another brother farm. He married Lillie Black on Feb. 22, 1930, in Parnell, and they moved in 1932 to Wyoming. They farmed in the Goshen County area until 1983, when Mr. Mullock partially retired and they moved to Torrington. He also worked 35 years as a truck mechanic on Holly Sugar campaigns. He enjoyed travel, fishing, and camping. He was preceded in death by his wife, a son, a daughter, a granddaughter, three sisters, and five brothers. In addition to his daughter in Sheridan, survivors include two sons, Jerald and Harold of Torrington; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Memorials may benefit the Special Touch Program at Community Hospital.

Sheridan native Gary William Brandt, 73, of Rock Springs died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, at his residence. He was cremated, and a memorial Mass was celebrated Nov. 15 at SS. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Rock Springs. Graveside services and inurnment will be later at Cokeville Cemetery. Mr. Brandt was born May 31, 1931, in Sheridan to John and Velma Brandt. He was a 1949 graduate of Sheridan High School. He married Alma Maninfior in Sheridan on June 2, 1962. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. He was a manager at Sears for 33 years and was district manager for Sears in Fort Collins, Colo., for five years before moving to Rock Springs in 1985. Mr. Brandt was an avid sports fan, hunter and fisherman, and he enjoyed spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by a brother, Darold. Survivors include his wife; a son, Joe of Rock Springs; a daughter, Anne McMartin of Rock Springs; a brother, Keith of Sheridan; and three grandchildren.
Former Sheridan resident Alice Schock, 71, of Two Rivers, Wis., died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004, at the residence of her son in Two Rivers. Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service is planned later. Mrs. Schock worked as a registered nurse in Wyoming, Montana and California and later became a real estate agent for Gailey-Thomas Realty. She volunteered at the Sheridan VA Medical Center. Survivors include two sons, Chris of Two Rivers and Doug of Dayton; two sisters, Irene King of Sheridan and Wilma Harper of Carlsbad, N.M.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Former Sheridan resident Jeannie B. Jean Sweem, 83, of Laramie died Tuesday, Nov. 16, in Ivinson Memorial Hospital. Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service is planned next summer in Sheridan. Arrangements are with Montgomery-Stryker Funeral Home of Laramie. Mrs. Sweem was born Oct. 24, 1921, in Gillette to James and Barbara (Bruce) McKenzie, who emigrated from Scotland in the early 1900s. Mrs. Sweem attended school in Gillette, graduating from high school in 1939. She attended business college in Sheridan. She married Glenn D. Sweem on April 11, 1941, in Denver. She worked for the telephone company in Sheridan as a switchboard operator and at Kraft's Jewelry here before moving to Fort Collins, Colo., in 1977. She moved to Laramie in 1998 to be closer to her family. She used her lifelong hobbies of genealogy, photography and writing to keep in touch with relatives in many countries. She was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Annie M. Hines of Gillette; and a brother, J. Bruce McKenzie of Gillette. Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Jean Barbour of Laramie; two sons, Glenn D. Jr. of Land O' Lakes, Fla., and Craig A. of Sheridan; three grandchildren; three step-granddaughters; eight great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Rusty Ray Briscoe, 54, of Shell died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004, at his residence. He was son of Pete and Deloris Briscoe of Dayton, brother of Ronda Briscoe of Sheridan and stepbrother of David Stallman of Sheridan. Cremation has taken place, and no services are planned at this time. Arrangements are with Atwood Family Funeral Directors Inc. of Basin. Mr. Briscoe was born Nov. 22, 1950, in Lusk. He received his schooling in Dayton. He married Arlydia Kay Stone on March 25, 1970, in Dayton. He served in the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy Briscoe. Other survivors include his wife; a son, Jerry of Shell; a daughter, Jessie Briscoe of Rock Springs; a brother, Roy of New Mexico; and three grandchildren.

Former Sheridan resident Nelda Fern Thompson, 78, of Grand Junction, Colo., died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, at Mesa Manor in Grand Junction. Memorial services are 2 p.m. today in Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Grand Junction. Arrangements are with Martin Mortuary. Mrs. Thompson was born Sept. 6, 1926, in Olympia, Wash., to Murrell and Fern Halstead. The family moved to Sheridan when she was a child. She graduated from Sheridan High School in 1945. She married Mervin Tommy Thompson on Feb. 16, 1947, in Sheridan. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Richard Halstead, and a sister, Audrey Tribby. Survivors include a daughter, Shawna Music; a sister, Ardith Kellogg; a brother, Cecil Halstead; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Hospice Palliative Care of Western Colorado in care of Martin Mortuary.
