James Romanzo Kirkpatrick

Memorial services for James Romanzo Kirkpatrick, 90, of Sheridan will be 2 p.m. Monday at First Christian Church with the Rev. Doug Goodwin officiating. Mr. Kirkpatrick died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005, in Billings of natural causes. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Kirkpatrick was born May 19, 1915, in Phillips, Neb., to William A. and Martha Elizabeth (Smith) Kirkpatrick. He married Jacquelyn Langston on Aug. 16, 1958, in Sheridan. He ranched and worked for Mullinax Concrete for 34 years. He enjoyed gardening, hunting and camping. He was preceded in death by his wife; five sisters, Maude, Mary, Gertrude, Rosie and Ollie; and two brothers, William and Robert. Survivors include a son, Michael of Billings; a daughter, Kristy White of Chino, Calif.; and five grandchildren. Jacquelyn A. Kirkpatrick

Memorial services for Jacquelyn A. Kirkpatrick, 80, of Sheridan will be 2 p.m. Monday at First Christian Church with the Rev. Doug Goodwin officiating. Mrs. Kirkpatrick died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, in Billings of natural causes. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Kirkpatrick was born April 23, 1925, in Roseburg, Ore., to Charles and Bessie (Johnston) Langston. After she graduated from high school, she attended college to become a teacher. She moved to Sheridan in 1952. She taught for the Sheridan County School District for 17 years, Holy Name School for two years and the Wyoming Girls School for 17 years, until 1992, when she retired. She married James Kirkpatrick on Aug. 16, 1958, in Sheridan. She enjoyed painting, artwork, gardening and reading. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Maurice, Lawrence, Wilbur and Donald Langston. Survivors include a son, Michael of Billings; a daughter, Kristy White of Chino, Calif.; and five grandchildren. Hazel Aegerter

Funeral services for Hazel Aegerter, 89, of Sheridan will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Cliff Gronneberg officiating. Visitation will be 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Friday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mrs. Aegerter died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2005, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. She was born March 27, 1916, to William and Althea (Smith) Cook in Fort Pierre, S.D. The family moved to Absarokee, Mont., when she was 2. She attended school there, graduating from high school in 1934. She married Arne Arthun in 1935. They farmed and ranched in the Stillwater Valley until they moved to Buffalo and operated a motel and service station. Mrs. Aegerter continued the business after divorcing Mr. Arthun in 1955. She married Harold Aegerter in 1956 in Buffalo. They continued the motel operation. Mr. Aegerter died in 1964. Mrs. Aegerter retired and moved to Sheridan in 1979. While running her motel in Buffalo, she worked as a cook at Johnson County Memorial Hospital and, later, as a waitress at the Crossroads Inn. After moving to Sheridan, she worked at Pamida Pharmacy, Westview Health Care Center and New Image Health Club until she was 86. She was a past president and secretary of the Sheridan African Violet Club. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for 26 years and a LOGOS program youth mentor. Survivors include her children, Arvin Arthun of Billings, Raymond Arthun of Franktown, Colo., Mark Aegerter and Sonja Abell, both of Sheridan, and Arlene Hager of Soldotna, Alaska; two sisters, Alice Hart of Oregon and Maxine Dykeman of Montana; four brothers, Keith Cook of Florida, Chuck and Doug Cook, both of Montana, Alfred Cook of Arizona and Stanley Cook of New Mexico; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Dean Ray Fitzpatrick

Memorial services for Dean Ray Fitzpatrick, 56, of Sheridan will be 2 p.m. Saturday at United Pentecostal Church with the Rev. R.H. Robinson officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Fitzpatrick died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005, in Sheridan VA Medical Center. He was born Sept. 19, 1949, in Fountain Hill, Pa. He grew up and graduated from high school in Pennsylvania and attended college there. He served with the Air Force in Vietnam. After service, he lived in Pennsylvania and Rapid City before moving to Sheridan in 1979. He married Teresa Scott on Nov. 12, 1980, in Sheridan. They divorced in 1991. He worked at several jobs in Sheridan. An avid race car fan, he enjoyed yard sales, camping and fishing, and spending time with his children. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother. Survivors include a son, Travis of Sheridan; a daughter, Karol Whisler of Sheridan; a sister; and one grandson.

 

Virginia Knoll Renschler

Part-time Sheridan resident Virginia Knoll Renschler, 90, of Arkansas County, Ark., died Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005. A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday in Almyra (Ark.) Cemetery with arrangements by Turpin Funeral Home of Stuttgart, Ark. Mrs. Renschler was born April 12, 1915, in Almyra to Metta and George Knoll. She was a former board member of First United Methodist Church and a Sunday school superintendent. In recent years she lived part of each year in Sheridan and owned a ranch here, according to her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Adolph; a daughter, Bonnie; and a son, George. Survivors include two daughters, Ileene Watkins of Little Rock, Ark., and Loretta Fontenot of El Dorado, Ark.; a sister, Georgia Etta Jackson of Holly Grove, Ark.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Nature Conservancy, Ducks Unlimited, Grand Prairie Evangelical Methodist Church, Museum of the Arkansas Grand Prairie, or a recipient of the donor's choice.

Edna E. Schneider

Graveside services for Edna E. Schneider, 86, of Sheridan will be 11 a.m. Friday in the Elks Section of Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with the Rev. Mike Dennis of the Christian Church in Gillette officiating. Arrangements are with Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home of Gillette. Mrs. Schneider died Monday, Dec. 26, 2005, at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Gillette of natural causes. She was born Sept. 3, 1919, in Sheridan to David and Alice (Barker) Stevens. She grew up and was educated in Sheridan. She married C. Wayne Schneider on Feb. 19, 1938, in Billings. They couple moved to Gillette, then to Fort Worth, Texas, in 1939. They returned to Gillette in 1944 and later moved to Sheridan. Mrs. Schneider was a homemaker and enjoyed needlework, crafts and gardening. She worked at the Sheridan College Library in later years. She was a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi. She was preceded in death by her husband; a granddaughter; a sister, Jennie Kusel; and a brother, David “Bud” Stevens. Survivors include a son, Terry of Gunnison, Colo.; a daughter, Judy Schneider-Birdie of Gillette; two brothers, R. Doland Stevens of Sweet Home, Ore., and Thomas R. Harvey A. Scott Sr.

Funeral services for Harvey A. Scott Sr., 77, of Center, Neb., will be 10 a.m. Friday in United Pentecostal Church in Sheridan with the Rev. R.H. Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery under direction of Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Scott died Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2005, at Lundberg Memorial Hospital in Creighton, Neb. He was father of Teresa Fitzpatrick of Sheridan. Mr. Scott was born Jan. 12, 1928, in Verdel, Neb., to Charles Harvey and Alta Mae (Mills) Scott. He grew up in Verdel and served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1946. After the service he returned to Verdel, where he farmed and did road construction. He married Naomi F. Welch on Jan. 9, 1956, in Sheridan. The couple lived in various states while Mr. Scott operated heavy equipment for road construction and worked as an electrician. He retired in 1997 and moved to Center. He was a member of United Pentecostal Church in Norfolk, Neb., Creighton American Legion Post 0074 and Creighton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1151. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Floyd, Lloyd and Lawrence; and a sister, Violet Ebsen. Survivors include his wife; three other children, Neva Motacek of Elmendorf, Texas, Harvey Jr. of Denver and Elmer of Bend, Ore.; three sisters, Fern Wassenburger of Casper, Rose Ann Martin of Hebron, Neb., and Karen Fernau of Tule, Texas; four brothers, Earl of Minatare, Neb., Marvin of Niobrara, Neb., Lyle “John” of Lindy, Neb., and Gene of Creighton; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

 

Steve Cherni

Funeral services for Steve Cherni, 89, of Sheridan will be 2 p.m. Friday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Stolcis officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mr. Cherni died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2005, at Sheridan VA Medical Center. He was born Jan. 7, 1916, in Acme to Joseph and Barbara (Hays) Cherni. He served in the 412th Air Service Squadron of the Army Air Corps during World War II, stationed near Calcutta, India. He was honorably discharged in April 1946. He enjoyed photography and working with livestock. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Andy, Joe, Mike, George and Leslie, and a sister, Elsie. Marie McManus

Funeral services for Marie McManus, 95, of Lander will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Lander. She was mother of B.W. “Bernie” McManus of Sheridan. Rosary will be recited at 7 tonight at Hudson's Funeral Home chapel. Visitation is 6-9 tonight. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Lander. Mrs. McManus died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005, in Westward Heights Care Center. She was born April 18, 1910, to John and Mina (Bilcox) McOmie in South Pass City. Her parents died when she was 8, and she was adopted by relatives William and Mame Sherlock. She attended Lander schools, graduating with honors from Lander Valley High School in 1929. She was a cheerleader and member of the girls' basketball team. She attended Loretto Heights College in Denver and Greeley State College. She married Bernard T. McManus on Oct. 5, 1937, in Lander. She played bridge, winning a championship event in Tucson, Ariz. She belonged to St. Ann's Altar and Rosary Society and the church choir. She enjoyed studying the history of South Pass City and rock hunting. She and her husband donated the land that is now McManus Park adjoining City Park and the sculpture in Centennial Park on Lander's Main Street. She was preceded in death by brothers Delbert and William McOmie and sisters Jeanette Dye, Clare Reznor and Ellen Green. In addition to her son, survivors include her husband; two daughters, Ann Carvalho of Kaneohe, Hawaii, and Mary K. Feezer of Moran, 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Louis H. Hauber

Former Dayton resident Louis H. Hauber, 85, of Sundance died Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2005, at the Belle Fourche (S.D.) Health Care Center. Funeral services were this morning at Hulett Civic Center with burial in Greenwood Cemetery in Newcastle. Arrangements were with Fidler-Roberts and Isburg Funeral Chapel of Sundance. Mr. Hauber was born Aug. 15, 1920, on a ranch west of Hulett to Jake and Marie (Leutwein) Hauber. He was raised and educated in Crook County, graduating from Hulett High School in 1939. He spent six months in the Civilian Conservation Corps in Dayton. In February 1942, he went to work for Consolidated Aircraft in San Diego. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944-46. He worked for Texaco in Moorcroft until 1952, when he went to work for Mountain States Telephone Co. He retired in 1973. He married Bessie Dudley while in Moorcroft. He was a member of the Crook County Senior Center board of directors for nine years. He was also elected to the Silver Haired Legislature for Crook County for two terms. He was preceded in death by his wife and three brothers, Edwin, Leslie and Julius. Survivors include a sister, Alice Roberts of Billings.

 

Helen Cherni

Helen Cherni, 84, of Sheridan died Friday, Dec. 23, 2005, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Stolcis officiating. Mrs. Cherni was born May 10, 1921, in Monarch to Paul and Agnes Madzia. She married Joseph Cherni Jr. on Nov. 3, 1944, in Sheridan. She enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, sewing, baking, collecting teacups, travel, being in the mountains and fishing. She was preceded in death by her husband and a son, Joseph Cherni III. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara and Liz Cherni, both of Sheridan; a brother, John Madzia of Sheridan; two sisters, Agnes Legerski and Alice Warnke, both of Sheridan; and a grandson. Andrew `Smokey' Pilch

Andrew “Smokey” Pilch, 81, of Sheridan died Sunday, Dec. 25, 2005, at his residence. Services will be later with arrangements by Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Pilch was born Aug. 17, 1924, in Monarch to Samuel and Mary Victoria (Pijanosky) Pilch. He grew up in Sheridan County and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After service, he returned to Sheridan. He married Marjorie Jensen on April 17, 1945, in Hardin, Mont. He worked at the Rice Ranch for many years, then at Beckton Stock Farm and, later, Wyoming Sawmills until he retired. Mrs. Pilch died in 1999. Mr. Pilch was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. He enjoyed bingo, fishing, camping in the mountains and being with his family. Survivors include a son, Andrew, of Great Falls, Mont.; three daughters, Linda Cox of Wyarno, Sherry Bonner of Billings and Joan Cox of Draper, Utah; a brother, Walter “Bud” Pilch of Ranchester; a sister, Bernice Mincher of Hardin; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Michael Howard Curtis

Michael Howard Curtis, 49, of Story died Sunday, Dec. 25, 2005, at his residence. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Miller officiating. Burial will be in Quiet Rest Cemetery near Story. Mr. Curtis was born Oct. 7, 1956, in Casper to David and Ruth (Fortenberry) Curtis. He grew up in Casper and Illinois and graduated from Joliet Township (Ill.) High School. He served four years in the Air Force. He married Lisa Marie Leslie on Aug. 22, 1975, in Las Vegas. They moved to Story in 1979. Mr. Curtis worked as an electrician for several contractors, including Modern Electric. He became a master electrician. He operated Courtesy Electric in Story from 1991-97. He then did CAD drawing for electrical designs of computer furniture. He was a member of the Christopher Reeves Foundation and had been a volunteer with the Story Fire Department. He had been a member of the Masonic Lodge, Kalif Shrine, York Rite and Knights Templar. He enjoyed music, reading, playing guitar, fly-fishing and the movies. He was proceeded in death by his mother. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Michael of Sheridan and Theodore of Denver; a daughter, Jessica Buckingham of Story; his father of Texas; two brothers, David of California and Daniel of Colorado; a sister, Kelly Garman of Joliet; and two granddaughters. Lena Springer-Sundberg

Memorial services for Lena Springer-Sundberg, 97, will be at St. Peter's Episcopal Church at a later date. Mrs. Springer-Sundberg died Sunday, Dec. 18, 2005, at Sheridan Manor. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. She was born Oct. 14, 1908 in Jefferson, Mo., to Isaac and Laura (Troxel) Dowell. She attended teachers college in Maryville, Mo., where she taught for a few years. She married William Springer in 1929 in Bethany, Mo. They later moved to Buffalo, then to Meade Creek. Mr. Springer died in 1967. Mrs. Springer later married George Sundberg in Reno, Nev., and they lived in Redding, Calif., until 1990, when they moved to Sheridan. Mr. Sundberg died in 1996. Mrs. Springer-Sundberg was past queen of Daughters of the Nile and a member of Does, Banner Women's Club and Big Horn Historical Society. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and playing the piano. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister. Survivors include two sons, Dan Springer and Dick Springer, both of Sheridan; a daughter, Monna Monk of Buffalo; a brother, Irvin Dowell of Chillicothe, Mo.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

 

Jeanne Brock

Jeanne Brock of Story died Friday, Dec. 16, 2005, in Denver, according to her family. Survivors include two daughters, Lane Reedy and Lisa Reynolds; and a grandson. Memorials may be made to Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library.

Jean Rosendahl

Funeral services for Jean Rosendahl, 75, of Sheridan will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. John Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mrs. Rosendahl died Thursday, Dec. 15, 2005, in Deaconess Hospital in Billings. She was born Nov. 30, 1930, in Rapid City to Albert and Dorothy (Mollenbrink) Hansen. The family moved to Sheridan when she was a child. She grew up and graduated from Sheridan High School. She married Thomas Rosendahl on Aug. 16, 1948, in Wheatland. They lived in Sheridan until 1954, when they moved to Great Falls, Mont. Mr. Rosendahl died in 1984, and Mrs. Rosendahl returned to Sheridan in 1989. She was an avid Atlanta Braves baseball fan and member of Sunrise Assembly of God Church. She enjoyed being with her family. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Robert. Survivors include two sons, Michael of Murchison, Texas, and Mark of Bloomington, Minn.; a daughter, Kathy Kinsey of Poestenkill, N.Y.; a sister, Linda Baker of El Paso, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Charlotte Viola Stoldt

Charlotte Viola Stoldt, 44, of Sheridan died Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2005, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. At her request, cremation has taken place, and a private family service will be later. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Stoldt was born Sept. 26, 1961, in Odessa, Texas, to Don and Evelyn (Rettinghouse) Miller. She grew up and attended schools in Riverton and graduated from Riverton High School. She married Glen R. Stoldt on May 9, 1991, in Riverton. She was a housewife and mother. She enjoyed collecting bears, making dream-catchers and spending time with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, a son and three sisters. Survivors include her husband; a son, Rueben Wentz of Casper; two daughters, Tabitha Bougie and Amanda Stoldt, both of Sheridan; a brother; two sisters; and seven grandchildren.

She was born May 9, 1917, in Chicago to William and Lillian (Walsh) Hoyne. She graduated from Providence High School in Chicago and received teaching credentials from Chicago Normal. She received her baccalaureate from Northwestern College in Evanston, Ill., and did postgraduate work at the University of Illinois. She married Andrew Cherni on Feb. 22, 1949, in Oak Park, Ill. He preceded her in death. Survivors include two daughters, Dr. Rita Cherni-Smith of Ranchester and Dr. Judith Cherni of Kalamazoo, Mich.; two sons, Mark of Sheridan and Dr. Matthew of Ranchester; and three grandchildren. Lucille Augusta (Kersting) Auda

Lucille Augusta (Kersting) Auda, 88, of Story died Monday, Dec. 12, 2005, at Westview Health Care Center in Sheridan, according to her family. At her request, cremation has taken place, and no services are planned. Mrs. Auda was born Nov. 15, 1917, in Munden, Kan., to William and Amelia Kersting. The family moved to Sheridan when she was a child, and she attended multiple one-room schools in the area, as her parents worked on several ranches. She was a 1937 graduate of Sheridan High School and worked for The Sheridan Press. She married Alexander Andrew Auda on Aug. 4, 1937, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Sheridan. They lived in Sheridan for several years before moving to California. Mr. Auda died in 1986. Mrs. Auda moved to Story in 2002 to be with her daughter and son-in-law. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son and one granddaughter. Survivors include two daughters, Margaret Grady of Story and Nancy Jones of Charlotte, N.C.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Sheridan Senior Citizens Center.

James W. Byrd

James W. Byrd, 80, of Cheyenne died Monday, Dec. 5, 2005, in Cheyenne. He was father of Wyoming National Guard Lt. Col. Robert C. Byrd of Sheridan. Vigil for Mr. Byrd was Tuesday at St. Mary's Cathedral in Cheyenne. Memorial Mass was this morning at St. Mary's Cathedral, with military honors by the American Legion Honor Guard. Local notification was through Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Byrd was born Oct. 22, 1925, in Newark, N.J., to Clarence and Elizabeth Byrd. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater and was recalled to active duty during the Korean conflict. He married Harriet Elizabeth Rhone on Aug. 8, 1947, while stationed at Fort Francis E. Warren. The couple made their home in Cheyenne, and Mr. Byrd joined the Cheyenne Police Department in June 1949. He became a detective in 1957 and worked his way up the ranks until January 1966, when he was appointed chief of police. He held that office until 1974, when he retired. From 1983 until 1988, he was undersheriff of Laramie County. He was appointed by Gov. Ed Herschler as director of the Wyoming Office of Highway Safety from April 1975 to July 1977. He served as a U.S. marshal for Wyoming from July 1977 until January 1982. He was a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Wyoming Peace Officers Association, Wyoming Chiefs Association, Wyoming Advisory Committee of the Small Business Administration, the Governor's Planning Board on Criminal Investigation in Wyoming, and a staff member and director of the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy. He attended the 84th session of the FBI National Academy in Washington, D.C., in 1969 and the FBI Community Relations Program in 1973 at Quantico, Va. He was past president of the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the FBI National Academy. Mr. Byrd was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral and served on the Parish Advisory Council, a past member of the Wyoming Diocesan Advisory Council to the Bishop, and served four years on the National Council of Catholic Bishops in Washington, D.C. He was a 52-year member of Knights of Columbus and held several positions in that organization. He was a member of the Frontier Lodge of the Elks Club of Wyoming, Cheyenne Vocations Club, American Legion Post 83, Kiwanis International Rocky Mountain District 13, Veterans of Foreign Wars and past president of the Wyoming chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. He was American Legion Post 83's Lawman of the Year in 1968 and received the VFW Outstanding Lawman of the Year award. He was a member of the Cheyenne Frontier Days security committee for 23 years. He was preceded in death by brothers “Buddy,” Walter, William and John. Survivors include his wife; another son, James W. Byrd II of White Bear Lake, Minn.; a daughter, Linda C. Byrd-Hsieh of Cheyenne; three sisters, Anna Crumidy, Catherine Brown and Carolyn Benton; a brother, Joseph of Newark; and six grandchildren.

Willard Ernest Studie

Visitation for Willard Ernest Studie, 85, of Sheridan will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Arvada Community Church with the Rev. Bob Moore officiating. Burial will be in Arvada Cemetery. Mr. Studie died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2005, at his residence. He was born April 18, 1920, in Thurmond, Iowa, to John and Rosa (Tyser) Study. Mr. Studie apparently changed the spelling of his name as as adult. He grew up and attended schools in Iowa. The family later moved to the Gillette area, where his father bought and operated a family ranch. Mr. Studie enlisted in the Army on June 5, 1942, and served in the Pacific and European theaters. He was discharged Oct. 30, 1945. He returned to Wyoming and worked on various ranches as a cowboy and sheepherder until 1994, when he retired. He lived in Arvada until this year, when he moved to Sheridan. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Elks Lodge and Eagles and was a 50-year veteran of the Wyoming Pioneer Bird, Fish and Small Game organization. He was preceded in death by two sons, four sisters, one brother and one grandchild. Survivors include two sons, Darreld Ernest Studie of California and Dennis Duane Studie of Pocatello, Idaho; a stepson, Shorty Reynolds of Palmer, Alaska; four daughters, Debra Rose Studie of Billings, Deanna Lynn Studie of Sheridan, Denise Lorraine Studie of Arvada, and Della Jean Studie of Gillette; a brother, Brooks Study of Sheridan; 25 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

She spent her childhood and most of her adult life in northern California until the early 1990s, when she moved to Wyoming. She attended Bethesda Worship Center. She enjoyed gospel music and being with her family. She was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters. Survivors include three children, Lorraine Raper and George Moskowite, both of California, and Beverly Bernard of United Arab Emirates; a brother, Allen Crist of Oregon; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Private family graveside services will be in Shell at a later date. Mrs. Rice died Saturday, Dec. 10, 2005, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. She was born June 25, 1930 in La Crosse, Wis., to Paul and Mabel (Mclachlan) Wright. She grew up and attended schools in La Crosse and was a 1948 graduate of Central High School. She married Thomas Rice on June 22, 1949, in Reedsburg, Wis. They lived in Sparta, Wis., for four years, then moved to central Minnesota. They moved to Wyoming in 1968, and Mrs. Rice move to Sheridan in 2004. She was preceded in death by a daughter, a brother and a grandson. Survivors include a son, Dan of Greybull; two daughters, Ruth Giertych of Gillette and Wanda Burton of Sheridan; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service took place in Woodville, and a celebration of her life is planned later in Sheridan. Mrs. Brown was born Feb. 6, 1920, in Alexandria, Ind., to Lester and Hilda (Pherson) Johnson. The family moved to Sheridan in 1927, and Mrs. Brown graduated from Sheridan High School in 1938. She was active in church and enjoyed knitting, golf, needlepoint and the company of her dog, Sammy. She knitted blankets for hospitals and nursing homes. She was preceded in death by a son, two brothers and a sister. Survivors include four sisters, Deloris Sammantino of Billings, Ginger Horner of Missoula, Mont., and Joyce Verley and Billie Bethurem, both of Sheridan; and a brother, Skip Johnson of Sheridan. She moved to Ranchester and taught at Ranchester High School. She taught at Tongue River High School from 1963 until 1982, when she retired. She married Don Johnson on March 17, 1950, in Sheridan. She was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, was past worthy matron and 50-year member of Friendship 51, Order of the Eastern Star, and was a member of Daughters of the Nile in Sheridan. She enjoyed sewing, needlework, reading and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, one sister and two brothers. Survivors include a son, John of Ranchester; a daughter, Judy Leinius of San Antonio; a sister, Jane Cunningham of California; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Harbel died Saturday, Dec. 3, 2005, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. She was born Oct. 6, 1953, in Sheridan to Ann and Jack Hitson. She grew up in Ranchester and graduated from Tongue River High School. She married Bruce Harbel on April 12, 1973, in Billings. They later moved to Sheridan. Mrs. Harbel enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and playing with her dogs, BooBear and Poco. She also enjoyed reading and crocheting. She was employed by Westview Health Care Center for 10 years. During that time, she received Life Care Center's Certified Nursing Assistant of the Year award. She was preceded in death by her husband. Survivors include two daughters, Autumn Raine Slater of Billings and Amber Dawn Fraser of Spearfish, S.D.; her parents of Sheridan; a brother, David Rawlings; and four grandchildren.

Memorial services for Alfred Kinter, 61, of Sheridan will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Congregational Church with the Rev. Bob Miller officiating. Visitation is until 4 p.m. today and from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday at Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Kinter died Thursday, Dec. 1, 2005, in Billings. He was born April 10, 1944, in Sheridan to Frederick and Bernice (Gosch) Kinter. He married Linda Wondra on Aug. 16, 1967. He enjoyed fishing, camping, canoeing, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and photography, the Big Horn Mountains, geo-cache treasure-hunting, and building birdhouses with his granddaughter. He was a Boy Scout leader for many years and also enjoyed reading and researching history, especially on World War II. He was treasurer of First Congregational Church for many years and served on several church boards. He served in the U.S. Army from 1961-1964, when he was honorably discharged. He worked for the city of Sheridan water treatment plant for 34 years. He also worked part time for Wal-Mart. He was a member of the American Quality and Pollution Control Association and the Water Environment Federation. He was named Operator of the Year in 1989 by the Rocky Mountain Section, American Water Works Association, and was Wyoming Water Quality and Pollution Control Operator of the Year in 1987. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara Schaffer and Mary Janice Kinter. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Frederick and Christian, both of Sheridan; siblings Bernice DeLapp, Norman Kinter, Evelyn Meyer, Christian Kinter, Georgia Manuel, Anna Bassett, Peggy Marker, Judy Kinter and Karen Hans; and a granddaughter.

Gene Ferren

Memorial services for Gene Ferren, 58, of Sheridan will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Kane Funeral Home with Sheridan Elks Lodge 520 officiating. Mr. Ferren died Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2005, at his residence. Cremation has taken place. Mr. Ferren was born April 12, 1947, in Sheridan to Jack and Marjorie (Heisler) Ferren. He enjoyed fishing for rainbow trout at Sibley Lake. He was an “honorary” member of Sheridan Elks Lodge and regularly attended many Elks functions. He enjoyed being with family, especially nephews and nieces. Adrian F. Peterson

A memorial service for Adrian F. Peterson, 83, of Sheridan, a former Dayton town councilman, will be 10 a.m. Friday at First Congregational Church-United Church of Christ with the Rev. Bob Miller officiating. Mr. Peterson died Monday, Nov. 28, 2005, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Peterson was born May 4, 1922, in Bridgeport, Conn., to Roy L. and Agnes (McGoldrick) Peterson. He grew up and attended schools in Washington, Conn., and was a 1940 graduate of Gunnery Prep School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in February 1942 and served in Brazil and North Africa. He was separated from the service in 1946 but was recalled to active duty with the U.S. Air Force in 1950. He served during the Korean conflict. He married Thelma Isakson in 1951 in Great Falls, Mont. He was stationed in South Carolina and Michigan before being transferred to Francis E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne in 1959 as one of the first missile personnel there. He served with the Strategic Air Command until 1967, when he retired. The Petersons moved to Dayton in 1972, owning and operating Tongue River Antiques for more than 30 years. Mr. Peterson served on the Dayton Town Council for more than a decade and was a weather watcher for the National Weather Service for 25 years. He was a member of First Congregational Church-U.C.C., Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Bodies, Kalif Shrine and American Legion. He enjoyed fly-fishing, gardening and wood refinishing and was an avid sports fan. He was preceded in death by one brother. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Bob and Dave of Sheridan; a sister, Bernice Perret of North Grandby, Conn.; and four granddaughters. Mary Elizabeth Robinson

Former Sheridan resident Mary Elizabeth Robinson, 81, of Talent, Ore., died Monday, Nov. 28, 2005, at her residence following a short illness, according to her family. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Medford (Ore.) Congregational Church. Mrs. Robinson was born March 14, 1924, in Long Beach, Calif., to Mark and Juanita Schiller Said. She attended San Jose Junior College and graduated in 1947 with a degree in occupational therapy. She married Verne A. Robinson on Dec. 12, 1948. They moved to Buffalo in 1952, where Mr. Robinson was minister at First Congregational Church until 1956. They moved to Sheridan in 1966. Mrs. Robinson was a member of First Congregational Church, Sheridan County Historical Society and many other community organizations over the years. She enjoyed gardening, scrapbooking, sewing and history. She was preceded in death by a brother, David Said. Survivors include her husband; a son, Bruce of Forestville, Calif.; three daughters, Anne Milner of Hayward, Calif., Jane White of McMinnville, Ore., and Lisa Smith of Oak Harbor, Wash.; a sister, Anne Lewis of Santa Rosa, Calif.; and six grandchildren. Story native Lenora Katherine “Peggy” Knutson, 92, of Buffalo died Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2005, in Johnson County Health Care Center. A celebration of her life is planned later. Mrs. Knutson was born Aug. 24, 1913, in Story to Barney and Francisca Smith. She graduated from Johnson County High School. She worked as a secretary in the Wyoming Senate and later became secretary for the head of the Senate. She was an avid bird-watcher and enjoyed studying Spanish and traveling, especially to Europe and Central America. She was preceded in death by eight brothers, Joe, Art, Fred, Tud, Boss, Eddie, Nebbie and Scoop Smith. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Bruce of Cheyenne and George of Bellingham, Wash.; a brother, Shorty Smith of Sheridan; and one grandson.
