BUFFALO — Stattah Augusta Farris of Buffalo died Monday, Jan. 30, 2006, in Amie Holt Care Center. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Midwest Community Methodist Church with the Rev. Su Debree officiating. Burial will be in Ainsworth, Neb., at a later date with committal services by her family. Arrangements are with Adams Funeral Home. June Juanita Lobdell

June Juanita Lobdell, 92, of Sheridan died Monday, Jan. 30, 2006, in Westview Health Care Center. Cremation has taken place. Family graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday in Highland Cemetery in Casper with the Rev. Kevin Jones officiating. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Helen Bridger

Helen Bridger, 81, of Sheridan died Sunday, Jan. 29, in the Hospice of St. John in Denver. Cremation has taken place. Rosary will be recited 7 p.m. Friday at Holy Name Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Arrangements are with Goes Funeral Care in Fort Collins, Colo.

James Matthew Davis

James Matthew Davis, 28, of Bellingham, Wash., died Friday, Jan. 27, 2006, in Bellingham from injuries in an automobile accident. Arrangements are pending with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

 

Wyonona Pearl Martin

A remembrance service for Wyonona Pearl Martin, 85, of Sheridan is planned for a later date. Mrs. Martin died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, in Sheridan. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Martin was born May 9, 1920, in a log cabin on her father's homestead in Whitman to Charles and Grace (Wolff) Finley. She attended a country school until the 10th grade, then attended Cheyenne High School. She married Wilbur M. Martin on Dec. 20, 1958. She enjoyed arts and crafts, sewing, cooking and being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Christian Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and several homemaker clubs. She volunteered at Sheridan Memorial Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband; sisters Gertrude Shaffer, Ilah Graber, Gladys Chard and Ethel Backhouse; and a brother, David Finley. Survivors include two sons, Marvin Harding of Sheridan and Tom Harding Jr. of Northglenn, Colo.; a daughter, Donna Rae Pruett of Soddy-Daisy, Tenn.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Robert Eugene Smith

Funeral services for Robert Eugene Smith, 66, of Ranchester will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Scott Lee officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with military honors. Mr. Smith died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, in Sheridan VA Medical Center. He was born Aug. 27, 1939, in Tooele, Utah, to Ruth Lavel (Parkinson) and John Eugene Smith. He entered the Army in 1957, after high school, and served until he was honorably discharged in 1959. He later married Joyce Butler. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, four-wheeling and spending time in the mountains. He was preceded in death by a half brother, Wesley Bowman; and a grandson. Survivors include three daughters, Mary Ann Herden of Ranchester, Tina C. Allguer of Wright and Melanie Shipley of Provo, Utah; a son, Robert E. Smith of San Diego; two sisters, Kathleen Ivie of Chubbuck, Idaho, and Valene Walker of Montpelier, Idaho; and seven grandchildren.

Claude Bernard Knutson

Funeral services for Claude Bernard Knutson, 80, of Sheridan will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Seventh Day Adventist Church with the Rev. Weldon Treat officiating. The services will be followed by a luncheon in the church hall. Burial will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Black Hills National Cemetery. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Knutson died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006, in the Sheridan VA Medical Center. He was born Oct. 18, 1925, in Webster, S.D., to Thomas and Getta (Olson) Knutson. He attended school in Pierpont, S.D., through the 10th grade. At the age of 8, he worked his own trapline, seven to eight miles long, every day. He enlisted in the Army as a radioman at 17. He ws a forward observer, called in air strikes and made a beach landing at Luzon, the Philippines. He received several medals, including the Purple Heart. He went to Bristol, S.D., after the service. He married Ruth O'Neal in Rapid City in 1953. They lived in South Dakota, Montana and Wyoming. Mr. Knutson worked in construction and as a big game guide. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing in the mountains. He was preceded in death by a son, Craige. Survivors include five children, Jimmy, Jeff, Diana, Tommy and Shelley; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Dennis James `Denny' Wisenbaker

Memorial services for Dennis James “Denny” Wisenbaker, 58, of Story will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Bethesda Worship Center in Sheridan. Services will be followed by a luncheon and celebration of his life at Story Community Church. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Wisenbaker died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, at his residence. He was born Jan. 3, 1948, in Escondido, Calif., to the Rev. Lawrence Abe “Pat” and Dorothy Nielsen Wisenbaker. During his childhood, the family lived in various places including Escondido, Ronan, N.M., Pablo, Mont., and Cody. He graduated from high school in Cody in 1966 and attended Bethany (Okla.) Nazarene College in 1966-67. He was a Vietnam veteran, serving with the Navy Seabees from July 19, 1968-July 17, 1970. He earned the Combat Action Ribbon, the Navy National Defense Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars. After leaving the service, Mr. Wisenbaker was a homebuilder in Cody, Sheridan and Oklahoma City. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, a water-skier and downhill skier. He enjoyed the mountains, camping, four-wheeling and watching Oklahoma University Sooners football games. He was preceded in death by his father on Aug. 13, 2004. Survivors include his wife, Carol; two daughters, Kristi Wisenbaker and Kelli Gooch of Bethany, Okla.; four stepsons, Brandon Rosencranse of Honesdale, Pa., Trevor Rosencranse of Basin, and Dustin and Cory Rosencranse, both of Cody; his mother of Nampa, Idaho; three grandsons; and four step-grandchildren. Harold Leslie Dunkin

Harold Leslie Dunkin, 69, of Rock River died Monday, Jan. 23, 2006, in Johnson County Health Care Center in Buffalo of pancreatic cancer. He was the father of Wade Dunkin and Cheryl Roebling, both of Clearmont. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Rock River School with the Rev. Marty Rostad officiating. Private family burial will be at a later date. Local arrangements are with Adams Funeral Home of Buffalo. Mr. Dunkin was born Sept. 3, 1936, in Loveland, Colo., to Harold H. and Sylvia Dunkin. He attended the Summit School in Campion, Colo., and the Big Thompson School in Loveland through the eighth grade. He worked on the family dairy farm until getting a job as a cowboy with Warren Livestock and Cattle Co. of Cheyenne. He served with the U.S. Air Force from 1956-60, spending time in the South Pacific. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Cheyenne. He married Alice Louise Bohling on Dec. 15, 1961, in Cheyenne. They made their home in Iron Mountain, where he worked as a ranch hand. The family moved to the Arlington/McFadden area in 1970, and he worked for the Wyoming Highway Department. They moved to Rock River in 1974, and Mr. Dunkin worked as a coal miner in Hanna until the mine closed in 1982. He then worked at various jobs in the Rock River area. He rode, broke and shoed horses and enjoyed going to livestock auctions. He worked with wood, building small table ornaments, picture frames and coasters, and wrote poetry. He was preceded in death by a brother, Eldon, and a granddaughter. Survivors include his wife; another daughter, Tammy Hoth of Red Lodge, Mont.; two sisters, Doris Ley of Cheyenne and Donna Probst of Shawno, Wis.; and eight grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Fisher House, a hospitality home for families of patients at Denver VA Medical center, or to a fund established to defray Mr. Dunkin's final expenses, in care of US Bank, 568 N. Third St., Laramie, WY 82070.

 

Eric James Hultberg

Former Sheridan resident Eric James Hultberg, 23, of Keller, Texas, died Friday, Jan. 20, 2006. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at New Hope Lutheran Church in Keller. Burial will be in Bourland Cemetery. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Friday at Lucas & Thompson's Keller Funeral Home. Mr. Hultberg was born Oct. 16, 1982, in Billings to Ron and Debra Hultberg. The family lived in Sheridan during most of his first 10 years. The family later moved to Keller, and he attended Keller High School graduating in 2001. He was a member of the Keller High School band. He enrolled at the University of Texas-Austin in fall 2001, pursuing a degree in pharmacy. He was in his third year of UT's four-year Pharmaceutical Doctor program and was beginning his second semester as president of the college's Pharmacy Council, a student government organization. He was the recipient of a Pharmacy Alumni Endowed Scholarship and had won numerous academic honors. Survivors include his parents; a sister, Carrie Ann of Keller; and grandparents Rachel Sanchez of Sheridan and Harold and Betty Hultberg of Coleharbor, N.D.

Dennis “Denny” Wisenbaker, 57, of Story died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, at his residence. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Bethesda Worship Center with the Rev. Tim Tromble officiating. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home.

 

Evelyn Anita Robbins

Visitation for Evelyn Anita Robbins, 87, of Sheridan is 6-8 p.m. today at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. William Heine officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mrs. Robbins died Monday, Jan. 23, 2006, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. She was born Jan. 19, 1919, in Clearmont to Albert and Ruby (Schultz) Goodwater. She moved to Wisconsin at age 18. She married Floyd Robbins on Dec. 12, 1940, in Shawano, Wis. They moved to Sheridan. She enjoyed reading, making quilts and crocheting. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, Martha Circle, Immanuel Lutheran Church Ladies Quilting Group, the Sheridan Homemakers Clubs and Good Shepherd Homes. She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, Albert. Survivors include a daughter, Garnett Lamb of Mountain View; a sister, Esther Sterling of North Bend, Ore.; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Jeanette Isidora (Esponda) Maxwell

Jeanette Isidora (Esponda) Maxwell, 82, of Buffalo died Monday, Jan. 23, 2006, at her residence. She was mother of Marci Buckley of Sheridan. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Buffalo with the Revs. George Von Kaenel and Michael Carr officiating. A Christian Wake service will be 7 p.m. Friday at the church with Von Kaenel officiating. Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Friday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Willow Grove Cemetery with graveside services. Mrs. Maxwell was born March 15, 1923, in Buffalo to John and Dominica (Etchemendy) Esponda. She grew up in Buffalo and was a 1941 graduate of Johnson County High School. She attended Loretto Heights College in Denver and later transferred to Creighton University, where she majored in journalism and communications. She married Vernon “Whitey” Maxwell on Oct. 26, 1944. They made their home in Buffalo. Mrs. Maxwell taught dancing lessons for many years and produced the annual “Spring Follies,” a local talent show. She and two Sheridan couples co-founded KBBS Radio Station on April 16, 1957. She assumed full ownership of KBBS in 1964 and managed it until Nov. 1, 1996, when Smokey Wilderman purchased the station. Under her guidance, “The Basque Program” ran on KBBS for more than 40 years. Former Buffalo Mayor Nels Lofgren proclaimed March 7, 1997, as “Jeanette Esponda Maxwell Day” in Buffalo, and on March 8, 1997, she was inducted into the Basque Hall of Fame in recognition of her contribution to the Basque identity, welfare and culture. Former Gov. Jim Geringer proclaimed March 8, 1997, as “Basque Program Day” in Wyoming. As a pioneer woman broadcaster, Mrs. Maxwell was inducted into the inaugural Wyoming Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame on June 7, 2003. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, where she served as a lector, Eucharistic minister and member of the choir and Parish Council. She was a member of Big Horn Basque Club, Basque Choir, Buffalo Chamber of Commerce, the Sweet Adelines barbershop group, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, and Take Off Pounds Sensibly. She enjoyed dancing, golf, spending time at Hazelton in the Big Horn Mountains, and being with her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, on Aug. 11, 1978, and by a son, Danny, a sister, two brothers and one granddaughter. Survivors include seven other daughters, Mary Kay Stafford, Marilyn Maxwell and Marti Markovsky, all of Buffalo, Monica Smithers of Arnold, Calif., Margo Trevino of Tracy, Calif., Melanie Walker of Strafford, Mo., and Michele Peck of Cheyenne; three sons, Russell of Cheyenne, David of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Tom of Gillette; a sister, Noeline Sun of Casper; 20 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Benjamin Shipley

Former Sheridan resident Benjamin Shipley, 64, of Gillette died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006, at his home of an apparent cardiac event. Graveside funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Mount Pisgah Cemetery in Gillette with the Rev. Dan Morgan of High Plains Community Church officiating. Military honors will be by American Legion Post 42. Mr. Shipley was born Feb. 11, 1941, in Omaha, Neb., to Benjamin and Catherine Shipley. The family moved to Sheridan when he was a child, and he was raised and educated here. He married Judy Blakeman in Sheridan in 1960. They divorced. Mr. Shipley served in the 101st Army Airborne Division as a paratrooper from 1959 to 1962. He later worked as a truck driver and for Boeing Aircraft for six years. He enjoyed football, especially watching the Denver Broncos. After he retired, he enjoyed prospecting, spending time with his family, playing guitar and fishing. He was also an avid reader. Survivors include two sisters, Corita Burton of Greybull and Karen McClure of Gillette; and one brother, Michael Legerski of Lovell. Larry N. Hoyt

Viewing for Larry N. Hoyt, 56, of Sheridan will be 1-7 p.m. Wednesday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with the Rev. David Duprey officiating. Inurnment of cremains will be Saturday in Quiet Rest Cemetery near Story. Mr. Hoyt died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006, at his home. He was born Nov. 19, 1949, in Sheridan to Floyd “Sonny” and Judith (Frey) Hoyt. He grew up in Sheridan and attended school in Story and Holy Name Catholic School. He was a 1968 graduate of Sheridan High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army after graduation and served in Vietnam as a helicopter crew chief and helicopter mechanic in 1969 and 1970. He received the Bronze Star. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Sheridan and was a mechanic for Sheridan Air Service, Cook Ford and Big Horn Coal Co. He advanced to maintenance superintendent at Big Horn Coal. After retiring from mining in 2002, he went to work for Heartland Kubota. He married Rhonda Vinke on Jan. 18, 1974, in Story. He was an avid cribbage player and enjoyed watching sports. He collected and rebuilt Allis Chalmers Model C tractors. Survivors include his wife; a son, Kelly of Story; two daughters, Shelly Hoyt of Bremerton, Wash., and Wendy Feagler of San Antonio; his parents of Sheridan; two brothers, David of Clearmont and John of San Antonio; a sister, Christine Legler of Denver; and five grandchildren. Thomas D. Hammond, 86, of Sheridan died Sunday, Jan. 22, 2006, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Feb. 4 at Sheridan Masonic Temple, 109 S. James William Lees

Former Sheridan resident James William Lees, 82, of Billings died Thursday, Jan. 19, 2006, in Valley Health Care in Billings. A memorial service will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Sage Towers in Billings. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements are with Cremation or Funeral Gallery of Billings. He was born Feb. 15, 1923, in Loyalist, Alberta, Canada, to Alex and Margaret Lees. He grew up on the family ranch in Canada and moved to Sheridan. He married Jo Ann Jensik, and they ranched in the Sheridan area. He later moved to Billings. He was preceded in death by a sister, Heather Gerding. Survivors include his wife; two children, Jean Troutt and Jim Lees; a brother, Arthur; and a sister, Jean Mills.

 

Robert `Bubba' Lee

Robert “Bubba” Lee, 44, of Sheridan died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006, at his residence. A celebration of life will be 2 p.m. Feb. 3 at Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Janice Anne `Jan' Downey

Janice Anne “Jan” Downey, 70, of Westcliffe, Colo., died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006, in Pueblo, Colo. She was mother of John F. Downey of Sheridan. Funeral services were Jan. 16 at Valley Bible Fellowship Church in Westcliffe with the Rev. Dick Jones officiating. Burial was in Ula Cemetery in Westcliffe. Arrangements were with Holt Family Funeral Home. Mrs. Downey was born Oct. 21, 1935, in Indianapolis to George F. and Edna M. (Morris) Nugent. She grew up in Indianapolis and Southport, Ind., and was a graduate of Southport High School. She married Richard Downey on June 24, 1954, in Southport. They moved to Colorado in 1956. Mrs. Downey obtained an art degree from Red Rocks Community College in Lakewood, Colo. She worked as an artist, painting mostly landscapes and historic buildings in watercolors, acrylics and oils. She was a missionary in Mozambique, East Africa, from 1990-91. She moved to Westcliffe after returning to the United States. She was a member of several art guilds and associations as well as Valley Bible Fellowship Church. She was preceded in death by one granddaughter. Survivors include her husband; another son, David L. Downey of Moreno Valley, Calif.; her mother of Camby, Ind.; her twin sister, Janet Barney of Camby; three other sisters, Sharon Earl of Spencer, Ind., Karen Boyer of Morrisville, Ind., and Pamela Wade of Florence, S.C.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial services for Samuel K. Ealy, 77, of Sheridan will be 10 a.m. Monday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Jordan Davis officiating. Mr. Ealy died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Cremation has taken place. He was born Nov. 11, 1928, in Mount Victory, Ohio, to Phillip M. and Myrtle (Gardner) Ealy. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1969. He married Claudia Ray on Jan. 20, 1956, in Baton Rouge, La. They were divorced. Mr. Ealy enjoyed fishing, woodworking and making homemade noodles. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Don, Bruce and Jack. Survivors include a daughter, Debbie Condos of Sheridan; a brother, Phillip of Caramel, Ind.; two sisters, Vivian Dodd of Oklahoma City and Mildred Bryant of Hattiesburg, Miss.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Ronald James Bihr

Ronald James Bihr, 69, of Sheridan died Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, in Sheridan VA Medical Center. No services are planned. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Bihr was born Dec. 13, 1936, in Worland to John and Molly (Lass) Bihr. He grew up and attended schools in Worland, graduating from Worland High School. After high school, he worked in Texas for several years before returning to Worland to work at Edward's Motors as a parts man. He served in the U.S. Army from 1961-62. He moved to Sheridan in 1997. He was preceded in death by two sons. Survivors include two sons, Ronald of Worland and Scott of San Francisco; a brother, Richard of Worland; and a grandson. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

 

Betty Lornell Towns

Betty Lornell Towns, 84, of Sheridan died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006, at her residence. Funeral services will be this spring with inurnment in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Ms. Towns was born in Kansas to Victor M. and Sarah A. (Lawrence) Towns. The family moved to Sheridan when she was a child. She attended Sheridan schools and graduated from Sheridan High School. She attended business college in Seattle. She returned to Sheridan and worked at Sheridan VA Medical Center. She moved to Denver but later returned to Sheridan to be near her parents. Survivors include a brother, Richard of Sheridan; and three sisters, Emmojean Lilley of Vancouver, Wash., and Patricia Ann Uzzell and Margaret E. Strickland, both of Clifton, Colo. Mrs. DeLamarter was born Aug. 4, 1921, in Chewelah, Wash. She married Richard J. DeLamarter in 1941. Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Ransbottom of Sheridan; and two granddaughters.

Bonita Katherine `Bonnie' (Berry) Sorenson

Funeral services for Bonita Katherine “Bonnie” (Berry) Sorenson, 84, were this morning at First Presbyterian Church in Gillette. Mrs. Sorenson died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006, in Campbell County Memorial Hospital Hospice. She attended high school in Ranchester and was on the state champion girls' basketball team. She was born Sept. 19, 1921, in Alhambra, Calif., to John Franklin and Lora Davis Berry. She moved to Rozet with her mother in 1936. She married Robert C. Sorenson on June 28, 1942. They resided on the family ranch at Wildcat (near Recluse). She was an honorary member of the Pleasant Hour Club and a member of the CC (Cheerful Chatter) Club at Wildcat. She enjoyed cooking and serving for the clubhouse dances. She also belonged to Presbyterian Women. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1999 and by three brothers. Survivors include three sons, Robert, Steve and Charles, and a daughter, Jan Cundy, all of Gillette; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Doris Helen Light, 73, of Sheridan were Monday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Revs. Robert Miller and Peter James officiating. Burial was in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mrs. Light died Friday, Jan. 13, 2006, in Deaconess Billings Clinic. She was born Nov. 15, 1932, in Iron Mountain, Mo., to Ewell Landon and Emma Anna (Logan) Bates. She grew up and attended school in Iron Mountain. She married Elmer Ray Light on Feb. 27, 1954. She took care of her brothers and sisters after the death of her mother in 1961 and cared for elderly individuals in private homes. She was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers. Survivors include two brothers, Marvin Bates of Edmond, Okla., and Ronald Bates of Bismarck, Mo.; and five sisters, Wanda Zimbelman of Laurel, Mont., Verna Nichols of De Soto, Mo., Rita Frost of Dallas, Sue Jackson of Jaynesville, Wis., and Debbie Wohl of Tucson, Ariz.

Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mr. Lesch died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. He was born Aug. 10, 1931, in New Salem, N.D., to John and Laura (Christian) Lesch. He attended a one-room schoolhouse through eighth grade. He was a 1949 graduate of New Salem High School. He worked for Northern Pacific Railroad as a telegraph operator for 45 years, retiring in 1994. He married Marguerite “Peg” Nack on Oct. 11, 1952. He was a member of Big Horn Mountains Eagles Lodge 4169, Immanuel Lutheran Church and Prairie Dog Community Church. His main interests were buying and selling horses, raising cattle and working on the ranch. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by his wife; a brother, Oscar; and a sister, Lavern Heid. Survivors include a son, Wayne Lee of Sheridan; and a grandson. Leona P. Tappe

Former Sheridan resident Leona P. Tappe, 90, of Fulton, Ill., died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006, at her daughter's home in Fulton. Funeral services were today at Sacred Heart Church in Clinton, Iowa. Inurnment was at Holy Family Cemetery in New Mallory, Iowa. Mrs. Tappe was a nurse's aide for many years and a partner, with her husband, of Central Western Livestock Order Buying. She was preceded in death by a son, Patrick; two daughters, Carol Tappe-Worden and Judith Tappe; four sisters; and three brothers. Survivors include a son, Michael of Shakopee, Minn.; six daughters, Barbara Timmerman of Clinton, Kay Kramer of Valentine, Neb., Virginia Blann of Fulton, and Mary Jo Gibson, Kathy Noel and Annie Scarff, all of Helena, Mont.; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Ritterbush died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2006, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital. He was born Nov. 2, 1938, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Harold Willard and Geleah Bernice Ritterbush. He married Glenda Lucille Burklund on Sept. 18, 1957, in Clay Center, Neb. He attended the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy, along with other law enforcement schools, and was a Wyoming Highway Patrolman for 34 years, retiring as a major. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and refurbishing autos. He was a member of the Peace Officers Associations of Carbon and Platte counties and the Wyoming Peace Officers Association and was a lifetime member of the Wyoming Highway Patrol Association, the National Rifle Association, the Elks Lodge and Wire Wheel Antique Auto Club. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, of Sheridan; a daughter, Rebecca Swanson of Hill City, S.D.; three sons, Robert of Phoenix, Wade of Sheridan and Bryan of Lakenheath Air Force Base, England; two sisters, Marie Jones of Broken Bow, Neb., and Ruby Poirier of Casa Grande, Ariz.; a brother, Douglas of Burnt Ranch, Calif.; and 10 grandchildren. Elizabeth Louise `Betty' Jacobson

A Christian Wake Service for Elizabeth Louise “Betty” Jacobson, 85, of Sheridan will be 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Kane Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday at Holy Name Catholic Church. Burial will be in Sheridan Elks Cemetery. Mrs. Jacobson died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006, in Surprise, Ariz. She was born Sept. 5, 1920, in Dayton, Ohio, to Albert and Marion Kenyon. She went to work for National Cash Register after graduating from high school. She moved to Pomona, Calif., in 1955 and worked at Bank of America. She married Arnold Jacobson on May 16, 1959. They moved to Sheridan in 1961. Mr. Jacobson worked at Prill Bros. They later built a home on Big Horn Avenue and started Jake's Spin-a-Lure in their basement. The company is now owned by their stepdaughter. Mrs. Jacobson enjoyed reading, walking the hills with her husband, and RV group outings with her church. A year and a half ago, the couple bought a winter home in Arizona Traditions, a retirement community in Surprise. Survivors include her husband; a stepdaughter, Suzanne Jacobson of Sheridan; a stepson, Robert of Surprise; a sister, Joan Dresher of Claremont, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Mary Elizabeth Miller Edwards

Visitation for Mary Elizabeth Miller Edwards, 98, of Sheridan is until 4 p.m. today at Kane Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday in Sheridan Masonic 43 Cemetery with the Rev. Doug Goodwin officiating. Mrs. Edwards died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. She was born June 5, 1907, in Clarence West, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia, Canada, to William and Lizzie (Parker) Miller. She graduated from high school in Bridgetown, Nova Scotia, and taught for one year. She then attended Forsyth-Tufts Training School for Dental Hygienists in Boston, graduating in 1928. She married Charles Kingsley Edwards on Aug. 18, 1936, at her family's home in Clarence West. She received her certificate of U.S. Citizenship on Sept. 21, 1936. She was a member of First Congregational Church in Boxford, Mass., and taught Sunday school. She enjoyed knitting, needlepoint, crossword puzzles, reading, baking apple pies, collecting teddy bears and spending time with family, friends and her cat, Maybe. She was a volunteer for many years at Sheridan Senior Citizens Center, serving noon coffee, and enjoyed playing cards and eating at Heritage Towers on Wednesday nights. She was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers. Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Broom of Sheridan; two grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Cynthia M. `Pat' Kennedy

Cynthia M. “Pat” Kennedy, 88, of Sheridan died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. No services are planned. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Kennedy was born Sept. 14, 1917, in East St. Louis, Ill., to Michael Reed and Elsie (Wilton) Kennedy. She grew up and attended schools in St. Louis, receiving her nursing degree there. She married Tunis Clark in 1954. They owned the PK Ranch west of Sheridan, later selling it to Don Roberts and buying the Bar V Ranch in Montana. They later sold that ranch to the Scott family. Mr. Clark died in 1961. Mrs. Kennedy worked as a sales clerk in various stores in Sheridan. She was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church. In addition to Mr. Clark, she was preceded in death by a sister.

Brenda Grinstine Morris, 45, of Sheridan died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006, following a battle with cancer. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. today at Sheridan Seventh-day Adventist Church, 345 S. Main St. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church, 2121 Colonial Drive. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are with Bullis Mortuary of Hardin, Mont. Mrs. Morris was born July 19, 1960, in Billings to George and Darlene Kemmis Grinstine. She grew up and attended schools in Lodge Grass, Mont., and graduated in 1978 as valedictorian. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Montana State University-Billings. She lived on the family ranch until 1990, when she moved to Sheridan. She married Scot Morris on Oct. 5, 1996, in Sheridan. They made their home here. She was an accountant for Hoffman Consulting. She participated in various community activities and enjoyed the outdoors, ranching, snowmobiling, camping, playing softball, and her cats. She was a member of Seventh-day Adventist Church of Sheridan, a church board member, and served as treasurer for many years. She was past president of the XI Epsilon Sorority and a 16-year board member of Cit-co Credit Union. She was preceded in death by her father and a half sister, Jackie Diedtrich. Survivors include her husband; a son, Skylar; a stepson, Josh Morris; her mother and stepfather, Darlene and Clarence Westbrook; two sisters, Maxine Nauman and Sue Gilson; and three brothers, George Grinstine Jr. and George and Richard Daylong. Mr. Webb died Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006, in Westview Health Care Center. He was born July 22, 1922, in Sheridan to John and Mary (Burkhart) Webb. He served in the Army during World War II in the North Africa and India campaigns. He was a utilities foreman for the city of Sheridan for 36 years until 1984, when he retired. He was a member of Eagles Lodge 186. He enjoyed farming, working with horse teams, breaking horses, and spending time with his friends. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Mascher of Sheridan. Clyde Ernest Merrill

Clyde Ernest Merrill, 96, of Sheridan died Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Willow Grove Cemetery in Buffalo with James Reyer officiating. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. Wednesday and 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo. Mr. Merrill was born Jan. 12, 1909, in Parkman to George and Cholista Merrill. He spent his early childhood in Sheridan County, attending every grade school except Taylor School. His father died in the flu epidemic in 1918. After his mother remarried, Mr. Merrill worked for his stepfather in the Babione Coal Mine east of Kaycee. He married Grace Streeter on Jan. 17, 1931. In addition to working part time at the coal mine, he worked as a ranch hand for Cy Blair and helped John, Mike and Russell Streeter shear sheep. He and his family operated a ranch on the lower Powder River east of Buffalo from 1939-47, when they sold the ranch and bought another ranch in Decker, Mont. They lived there until 1950, when they moved to Sheridan. They moved to Buffalo in 1957, then returned to Sheridan in 2003. Mr. Merrill was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed ranching, driving trucks, fishing and helping his wife with yard work. He was preceded in death by six brothers, three sisters and two sons. Survivors include his wife; a sister, Edna Ramsey of Oregon; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Harlan Norval Tulley

Harlan Norval Tulley, 90, of Sheridan died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006, at Sheridan VA Medical Center. Private services will be later at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Sheridan. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Tulley was born Oct. 29, 1915, in Worley, Idaho, to Lucian Allan and Harriet Anna (Burlingam) Tulley. He worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in soil conservation, later transferring to the U.S. State Department in Washington, D.C. His job later took him to residences in Haiti, Nigeria and Ethiopia. He married Agnes Smith in 1942 in Sheridan. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and flew in B-25 Mitchell bombers with the 12th Air Force, 57th Bomb Wing, 321 Bomb Group, 447 Squadron. He was shot down over the Brenner Pass and was a prisoner of war in Nuremberg, Germany, until his release in April 1945. He was a 50-year member and past master of Sheridan Masonic Lodge 8, past high priest of Holy Royal Arch Knights Templar, past commander of DeMolay No. 6, Royal Arch Mason of Wyoming and grand commander for the state of Wyoming, past master of Royal Archy and selected master of Wyoming. He was a life member of Kalif Shrine and Kalif Buckskin Horse Patrol, past sovereign of Red Cross of Constantine, a 50-year member and five-time past patron of Naomi Chapter No. 2, Order of Eastern Star and a member of St. Denny Conclave, Scottish Rite Free Mason and St. Peter's Episcopal Church. Survivors include his wife; and two sons, William and Fredric, both of Sheridan. She was administrative assistant in the canteen for many years before retiring. She was a past matron of Eastern Star and a member of Daughters of the Nile and American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading, gardening and watching nature. She was preceded in death by two siblings, Debbie Gronski and Billy Carr. Former Sheridan resident Beth Morgareidge Smith, 90, of Buffalo died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006, in Johnson County Health Care Center. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Su DeBree officiating. A private family burial will follow. Mrs. Smith was born May 9, 1915, on Dutch Creek east of Sheridan. The family moved to the Big Horn Mountains above Buffalo when she was a child, and she attended the Hunter Ranger Station Elementary School. The family later returned to Sheridan, and she graduated from Sheridan High School in 1934 and attended Hines Business College here. She later worked in a medical clinic in Worland. She married Lloyd Malcom in Worland in 1938. They resided in Lovell. She worked for the J.C. Penney Co. for six years, then 25 years for Pacific Power. Mr. Malcom died in 1983. Mrs. Smith moved to Buffalo in 1985 to be near her family. She married Leroy Smith that same year. He preceded her in death. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. Survivors include two stepsons, Larry Smith of Kaycee and Harold Smith; a stepdaughter, Sandra Schrunk of Arizona; and five step-grandchildren. Doretta Lucille (Potts) Good

Funeral services for Doretta Lucille (Potts) Good, 80, of Sheridan will be 1 p.m. Friday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Sherman Weberg officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mrs. Good died Monday, Jan. 2, 2006, at Sheridan Manor after a long illness. She was born Feb. 17, 1925, in Fillmore, Mo., to Albert and Callie Potts. She was a lifelong resident of the Sheridan area. She married George Oliver Good on Sept. 2, 1952. Mr. Good died in 1969. Mrs. Good enjoyed cooking and making pastries. She was a member of the Sheridanaires. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by brothers Dorvan and Garland Potts; a half brother, Grove Theriault; and a stepbrother, John Shaw. Survivors include a son, Darren Lee Good; a sister, Nadine H. (Shaw) Roberts of Big Horn; a stepsister, Eloise (Shaw) Young of Anchorage, Alaska; and one grandson.

Ray William Moore

Ray William Moore, 79, of Buffalo died Monday, Jan. 2, 2006. He was father of Rae Vanderhoef of Sheridan. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo with the Rev. Tom Saur officiating. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. Thursday and 8:30-9:30 a.m. Friday in the chapel. Burial will be in Willow Grove Cemetery in Buffalo with committal services. Mr. Moore was born Dec. 5, 1926, in Huntington, Ind., to Ray and Minnie Moore. He grew up in Warren, Ind., and was a 1944 graduate of Warren High School. He joined the U.S. Army after high school and served in the South Pacific during World War II. He returned to Warren after the war. He married Barbara Bradford on Oct. 28, 1951, in Wabash, Ind. They moved to Crane, Texas, where Mr. Moore worked in the oil fields. He later worked in oil fields all over the world, including the North Slope of Alaska and Pakistan. They settled in Buffalo in 1966. Mr. Moore continued to work in oil fields until 1988, when he retired. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed hunting and spending time in the Big Horn Mountains. He was preceded in death by a brother. Survivors include his wife; a second son, Bob of Fallon, Nev.; a brother, Lloyd of Fort Wayne, Ind.; a sister, Sharon Detamore of Warren; and two grandchildren. Memorials may be made to St. Francis Animal Shelter in care of Adams Funeral Home.

 

Rhea Ellen Kline Langworthy

Rhea Ellen Kline Langworthy, 98, of Buffalo died Sunday, Dec. 25, 2005, in Amy Holt Care Center in Buffalo. She was mother of Baird Langworthy of Story. Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Jan. 23 at First Christian Church in Billings. A reception at the church will follow. Graveside committal services will be 3 p.m. Jan. 23 in Mountview Cemetery in Billings. Mrs. Langworthy was born April 22, 1907, in Brazil, Ind., to Arthur O. and Nettie Kline. She attended high school and college at Billings Polytechnic Institute (now Rocky Mountain College), where her father taught business and math. She was a 1930 graduate of Drake University in Iowa with a Bachelor of Science degree in music. She sang lead roles in the Polytechnic Light Opera Company and was a member of the Poly Sextette singing group. Both groups performed in Montana and northern Wyoming promoting the college. She married Alan W. Langworthy in 1932. They divorced. Mrs. Langworthy taught for 16 years, mainly at the McKinley School in Billings. Her main interests were music, reading, crossword puzzles and needlework. She enjoyed traveling in Europe, the Caribbean, Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific islands. She was a charter member of her PEO chapter, served on the board of the American Association of University Women, and was a volunteer at Deaconess Hospital. She was a longtime member of First Christian Church. She was preceded in death by a brother, William Kline; and two sisters, Margaret McKay and Dorothy O'Conner. Survivors include three other sons, James of Silver Spring, Md., Dan of Federal Way, Wash., and Ron of Fort Fairfield, Maine; a sister, Betty Powers of Billings; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Leslie William Torok

Former Sheridan resident Leslie William Torok, 53, of Buffalo died Monday, Jan. 2, 2006, in Johnson County Health Care Center. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 135 Crescent Drive in Sheridan. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with committal services. Arrangements are with Adams Funeral Home of Buffalo. Mr. Torok was born Oct. 18, 1952, in Toronto to William and Helen Torok. The family moved to Southern California when he was 12, and he graduated from high school in Long Beach in 1970. He attended Long Beach University for two years before transferring to the University of California-San Francisco. He graduated with degrees in English and journalism. He was circulation manager for Antic Magazine. He married Dixie Nicholas in April 1989 in Tucson, Ariz. They owned and operated a retail shop in Tucson before moving to Sheridan in 1993. Mr. Torok was director of marketing for American Direct here. Mrs. Torok died in October 2000. Mr. Torok moved to Pierre, S.D., then to Buffalo in 2003. He was an avid reader and wrote articles and stories. He enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with his children picnicking and fishing in the mountains. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his mother and a sister. Survivors include two sons, Sam and William, and a daughter, Susannah, all of Buffalo; and his father and stepmother, William and Judy Torok of Banning, Calif. Esther Selema (Trueb) Wollensak

BUFFALO — Esther Selema (Trueb) Wollensak, 96, of Buffalo died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, at her residence. Memorial services will be later at the Methodist Church in Buffalo with the Rev. Su DeBree officiating. Burial will be in Wisconsin Memorial Park in Brookfield, Wis.
