Martha Sene, 100, of Sheridan died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2010, in Westview Health Care Center. Funeral service is 10 a.m. Monday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul J. Cain officiating. Burial will be in the Elks section at Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Born Dec. 7, 1909, in Lehr, N.D., to Henry and Johanna (Muntd) Nathan, she grew up and attended schools in Kings Settlement, N.D. She married Vern Sene on Aug. 1, 1934, in Ellendale, N.D. They lived in North Dakota, Texas, Montana and California before settling in Sheridan around 1946. She worked 20 years for Dan's Ranchwear. Mrs. Sene enjoyed travel, knitting and crocheting. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and AARP. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1965, two sisters, and two brothers. Survivors include two sons, Marlin of Nogales, Ariz., and Royce of Emigrant, Mont.; four grandchildren; and one grandson. Memorials may benefit Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Donald Leslie "D.L." Walters, 82, of Sheridan died Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Arrangements are pending with Kane Funeral Home.
Tony Edelman, 71, owner of Pat's Hallmark in Sheridan, died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010, in his Gillette home. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Gillette Memorial Chapel. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Friday at Family Life Church in Gillette with Pastor Brad Powell of the Gillette Berean Church officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Pisgah Cemetery. Born Oct. 24, 1938, to William H. and Coramay K. Edelman, he was a lifelong resident of Gillette. He graduated from Campbell County High School in 1956 and the University of Wyoming with a bachelor's degree in accounting. He served in the U.S. Army, stationed at White Sands, N.M. He married Patricia Helen Courtney of Wyoming, and the couple lived in White Sands. Upon discharge, they returned to Gillette. He opened Edelman Accounting and assisted in opening and operating KIML radio station and, with his wife, Pat's Card and Gift Store in Gillette. He also helped open Trademarx clothing store, Top of the Marx, and Cook's Nook in Gillette. Six years ago he purchased the Hallmark store in Sheridan, now Pat's Hallmark Store. He enjoyed spending time with family, gardening, coin collecting, travel, and time spent in Maui, Hawaii. He was preceded in death by a son, Anthony W. "Rone" Edelman Jr.; and a brother, William H. Edelman III. Survivors include his wife; one son, Bill Edelman of Gillette; two daughters, Cathy Moore of Arizona City, Ariz., and Karen Cook of Gillette; and seven grandchildren. John L. Madzia, 72, of Sheridan died Friday, Jan. 22, 2010, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Memorial services are 10 a.m. Friday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Kevin Jones officiating. A reception will follow at Best Western Sheridan Center. Born Dec. 17, 1937, at the family home in Monarch to Paul and Agnes (Bachlet) Madzia, he was one of six children. The family later moved to Acme. He completed high school and married Delores Marosok on Aug. 17, 1963. They had two daughters. They divorced after 23 years. He was interested in automobiles and enjoyed the various body styles and complexity of engines and parts. This led to a long history of employment with Cook Ford Sales as a mechanic until retirement. In his earlier years he enjoyed snowmobiling, racing and working on snow machines. The family would travel to nearby towns for competitive racing, and many weekends were spent in the Big Horn Mountains on pleasure rides. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, four-wheeling, dart ball and watching sports, particularly NASCAR and the NFL. He was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He enjoyed planning and growing a vegetable garden each year and sharing the produce with others. He also enjoyed family visits, picnic lunches and teaching his grandson how to fly-fish. He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters. Survivors include two sisters, Agnes Legerski and Alice Warnke; two daughters, Linda Nunez and Kathy Madzia; and one grandson. John G. Gleissner, 67, of Sheridan died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010, at his residence. Visitation will be 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Elks Section of Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with the Rev. Ron Stolcis officiating. Born June 3, 1942, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to John N. and Eva (Harnisfegher) Gleissner, he grew up in Brooklyn and Queens, N.Y., where he attended school. Mr. Gleissner served in the U.S. Marine Corps from January 1960 to January 1964. He married Valerie E. Walker on April 9, 1965, in Sacred Heart Church in New York. He worked 36 years for American Airlines in air freight. He was a member of American Legion, Eagles 4169, Elks Lodge, Big Horn Mountain Lodge 43 A.F. & A.M., and Kalif Shrine. He enjoyed golf, fishing, and travel. His wife preceded him in death. Bette Hess was his significant other. Survivors include a son, John Gleissner, of Bohemia, N.Y.; a daughter, Maureen Gleissner, of Pocatello, Idaho; three brothers, Robert Gleissner and Arthur Gleissner of New York and Fred Gleissner of Florida; and two sisters, Nancyann Bach and Marian O'Rourke, both of New York. Funeral services for Roberta "Tex" Bulkley, 76, of Arvada, who died Friday, Jan. 22, 2010, at Campbell County Memorial Hospital in Gillette, will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo with the Rev. Bob McHenry officiating. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with burial in Willow Grove Cemetery, Buffalo. Born Jan. 31, 1933, in Eden, Texas, to Robert and Mary (Goeke) Schlather, she spent her early years in Eden. At age 11, she moved with her mother to Denver and then to Johnson County. She graduated from Buffalo High School in 1948 and married Clifford Junior Bulkley on May 22, 1948, in Broadus, Mont. They lived and worked at area ranches in Johnson and Sheridan counties. In 1957 they moved to the Keystone Ranch north of Arvada. They continued ranching until 2002, when they moved to Gillette due to poor health. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Mike; and a granddaughter, Leah. Survivors include three daughters, Sharon Soule of Buffalo, Carol Bryson of Gillette, and Marcia Bundy of Gillette; two brothers, Charles Frank Schlather of San Angelo, Texas, and David White of North Carolina; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Former Sheridan resident, Alfred Hugh Flanigin, 82, passed away December 7 th 2009 at Iverson Memorial Hospital, in Laramie, WY. Born January 13 th, 1927 in Bristow, Oklahoma, to Nell Kathryn (Foster) and Herman Floyd Flanigin, he attended schools in Oklahoma where his parents were educators, his father superintendent of school and his mother a high school teacher. Graduating from Claremore High School as an outstanding athlete he received a basketball scholarship and attended Northeastern College in Tahlequah Oklahoma. In 1946 he enlisted in the Navy and served aboard a destroyer. At the end of the conflict he moved to Sheridan. He married Rosemary Perkins in 1949 and continued his education at Sheridan College where he became captain of the college's first basketball team known then as the "Golden Eagles". He resumed his education at the University of Oklahoma, Norman, OK where he received a degree in Business Administration and Education. In 1954 he returned to Sheridan to assume teaching and coaching duties at Big Horn High School. He coached all sports for boys and girls track, football and basketball. With a limited bench, he took the men's basketball team to state and defeated all of the football advisories. When a new position of Distributive Education at Sheridan High School was added, he became the director as well as teaching social studies and serving as an assistant coach of track, football, and basketball. Later he became head swimming coach. He also refereed high school and college basketball. In 1971 he accepted a position at Cody High School to become Director of Vocational Education and golf coach. Divorced in 1976, he moved to Cheyenne where he became director of Tax & Revenue, a position he held until his retirement. In 1989 he married Patricia Rinker in Laramie where he resided until his death. Preceding him in death were his parents, a son, Alfred Sean, and infant sister, brothers Ben and Col. William Flanigin. Survivors include his wife, Patricia of Laramie, sons Patrick (Mary), of Anchorage, AK, Phillip (Tera), of Sheridan, Kevin (Susan), of Carlisle, KY, daughters Deborah (Tom), of Chagrin Falls, OH, Susan Flanigin, of Big Horn, grandchildren John Patrick Flanigin, Meghann Flanigin, Ian Flanigin, Benjamin Flanigin, Torrey Thomas, Emory Thomas, & Shelby Flanigin. Brothers Robert of Ponca City, OK, & Dr. Herman Flanigin, of Little Rock, OK. While living in Sheridan he was active in many organizations, Jaycees, Kiwanis, the Civic Theater Guild, the Elk's Club, American Legion Drum and Bugle Corps, Sheridan Country Club, and the Sportsman's Club where his expertise in trapshooting won him many trophies. As a member of Saint Peter's Episcopal Church he served on the vestry and taught Sunday School. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an accomplished golfer. While in Cody he scored a hole-in-one at the Olive Glenn Golf Course. Teaching was his passion and he took great pride in all of his students, one in particular, Senator Mike Enzy. While in Laramie he was a member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars, American Legion, the Elk's Club, and the Laramie Trap shooters Club. Cremation has taken place and private services are scheduled for a later date. Montgomery-Stryker Funeral Home had been in charge of services. Cremation has taken place at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens under the direction of Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel. Memorial services were Monday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Lincolnway Chapel. Interment of her urn will be 4 p.m. Thursday at Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with a reception to follow at the Best Western Sheridan Center. Born April 21, 1947, in Sheridan, she had lived in Cheyenne for more than 20 years. Ms. Ogle was a waitress for many years and a member of First Baptist Church in Sheridan. She enjoyed dancing, reading, painting, working on puzzles, and was "a collector of many things." Survivors include her parents, Donald "Bert" and Luella M. Stroup of Sheridan; a daughter, Glenda Jean Wenzek Rasmussen of Cheyenne; two stepsons, Cliff Sayer and Brett Sayer, both of Sheridan; five sisters, Judith C. Lemons of Sierra Vista, Ariz., Virginia L. Morris of Sheridan, Patricia L. Shaw of Colstrip, Mont., Mary B. Lawson of Sheridan, and Rebecca L. Harris of Lovell; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. Contributions may be sent to the Davis Hospice Center of the American Cancer Society.

James S. Wagner, 65, of Banner died Monday, Jan. 18, 2010, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Memorial service is 11 a.m. Thursday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with George Tellez officiating. A reception will follow in Banner Community Hall. Born Dec. 28, 1944, in Sheridan to Preston and Thelma (Jeffers) Wagner, he grew up on the Wagner Ranch on the Tongue River and attended the Wagner School through eighth grade. He graduated from Sheridan High School in 1963, then attended Sheridan College. After serving in the U.S. Air Force, he graduated from the University of Wyoming with bachelor's and master's degrees in microbiology. He married Sally Chapman on Aug. 24, 1968, in Laramie. They lived in Cheyenne, where he was assistant director of the Wyoming Health Laboratory for five years, then an agent for Equitable Insurance. They moved to Banner in 1978, where he continued ranching and selling insurance for Equitable, retiring from the company in 1997. He was a 4-H and FFA supporter, member of the Fair Board for 10 years, and on the board of Prairie Dog and Kearney Ditch companies. Mr. Wagner enjoyed raising Limousin cattle, horses, reading a good book, and especially time with his grandchildren and visiting with friends and family. He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Carol; a sister, Patricia Weber; and a brother, Keith Wagner. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Todd of Sheridan and Cody of Greensburg, Ind.; a brother, Gerry Wagner of Belgrade, Mont.; a sister, Virginia Rohrer of Columbus, Mont.; and three grandchildren. Gerald Bloom, 42, of Sheridan died Friday, Jan. 15, 2010, at his residence.
Private services will be later with arrangements by Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Born in Englewood, Colo., to Kenneth and Linda (Lamm) Bloom, he grew up and attended schools in Boulder, Colo. After school he worked construction in Colorado and Wyoming, most recently in the Jackson area. He moved to Sheridan in 1998. Survivors include his father and stepmother, Susan Bloom, of Lakewood, Colo.; a brother, Donald Bloom of Sheridan; a sister, Tiffany Johnson of Knoxville, Tenn.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Karl H. Kretzschmar, 96, of Sheridan died Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, in his home. Private services are later with arrangements by Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Born Dec. 1, 1913, in Hastings, Neb., to Karl and Frances (Malte) Kretzschmar, he worked as a petroleum engineer for Mobil Oil until he retired. He moved in 2009 to Sheridan with his son, Karl, who survives him.

Norma Jean Goodman, 78, of Sheridan, passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2010, at the Sheridan Manor. Norma Jean (Deines) Goodman was born April 23, 1931 to Henry and Mary (Hofferber) Deines in Billings, Montana, and moved to Leiter, Wyoming the following year. She attended school in Cadiz, and Clearmont, Wyoming where she graduated High School with a GED in 1951. She married Walter Goodman on November 7, 1948, and they lived and worked at the Burgess Ranch for many years. They divorced in 1976. She married Howard "Swede" Goodman on October 27, 1979 and lived in Casper, Wyoming. Howard died on November 10, 2006, and Norma moved to Sheridan in 2008. She enjoyed gardening and colorful flowers, and watching her favorite television shows "Mash" and "The Golden Girls." Her cats were beloved companions and pampered pets, the luckiest cats in her Casper and Sheridan neighborhoods. She is survived by her daughter Marilyn Winner & fiance Michael Hiller of Sheridan, son, Walter "Wayne" Goodman of Joliet, MT, daughter Kathleen Taylor of Casper, WY; step children, Steve Goodman, Cary Goodman, Ardith (Sis) Haugen, Sue Weakly, Carol Jean Goodman; sisters, Marian Kimble of Casper, WY, Lucille (Otto) Frank, of Billings, MT, Marjorie (Ben) Flynn of Billings, MT; grandchildren, Ryan Winner, Jessica Winner, Thad Taylor, Brandy Taylor and Isabel Weaver. Funeral Services for Norma are at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 22, 2010 at Kane Funeral Home with Paster P. J. Cain officiating. Internment will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Sunset Memorial Garden Cemetery in Billings, MT. Harry D. Williams Sr., 80, of Sheridan died Friday, Jan. 15, 2010, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Private services are planned later. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Born July 10, 1929, in Ranchester to Harry Sr. and Lydia (Leis) Williams, he grew up and attended schools in Sheridan. After completing his education, he worked for Sheridan Furniture until he was activated in 1950 in the National Guard and stationed at Fort Lewis, Wash. He married Helen Moore on Oct. 14, 1950, in Olympia, Wash. After his military discharge, he returned to Sheridan and worked for Peter Kiewit and Sons. The couple moved to California, where he worked as a heavy-equipment operator for Pfizer, mining talc. He retired from Pfizer and returned to Sheridan in 1988, where he went to work for Brown Drug and Dairy Queen. He enjoyed fishing, photography, visiting historical places, and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Christal. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Harry Jr. of Sheridan and Donald G. of Stillwater, Okla.; a daughter, Linda Heemeyer of Sheridan; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Former Sheridan resident Ruth Y. Carroll, 90, of Lewiston, Idaho, died Friday, Jan. 8, 2010, at Life Care Center of Lewiston. Cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time. Arrangements are with Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home of Lewiston. She was born Nov. 1, 1919, in Stafford, Kan., to Clyde and Edith Sanford. She married L. Wray Carroll on Sept. 22, 1972, in Sheridan, where they lived for many years before moving to Lewiston. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Sheryl Dutcher of Clearwater, Fla., and Sandra Seip of Huntington Beach, Calif.; and three stepdaughters, Sheila DeVries of Hot Springs, S.D., Pamela Hancock of Telluride, Colo., and Darla Jenkins of Golden, Colo.
Maxine Wilson, 87, of Lodge Grass, Montana, passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, in Sheridan, Wyoming, at Sheridan Manor. Maxine was born on September 18, 1922, to Ed and Maude Wilkes in Sheridan, Wyoming. She married Jack Wilson on November 9, 1941 and they purchased the High School Hill Store in 1949. She enjoyed weekends at the cabin, horse races and riding her 80 CC Mini Enduro Yamaha motorcycle for pleasure and for moving cattle. She was the ultimate hostess, whether it be ice skating parties or branding and cattle drive picnics. Maxine belonged to the Jr. Women's Club and DOES in her younger years, and she was an active member of Cowbelles when she was older. She was a beautiful seamstress, she enjoyed playing the piano, and she was a great ranch wife. To this day, there are those who attest that Max and Jack served the best burgers in town - maybe even on the planet. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Francis Wilkes, Burl Wilkes and Merlin Wilkes. Maxine Wilson, 87, of Lodge Grass, Mont., died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010, in Sheridan Manor. Memorial services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Kane Funeral Home with Pastor Chuck Gifford officiating. Born Sept. 18, 1922, to Ed and Maude Wilkes in Sheridan, she married Jack Wilson in 1941 and they purchased the High School Hill Store in 1949. A seamstress, she enjoyed weekends at their cabin, horse races, riding her motorbike for pleasure and for moving cattle, hosting ice-skating parties, brandings, cattle-drive picnics, playing the piano, being a ranch wife, and spending time with family. In her younger years she was a member of Junior Women's Club and Benevolent Patriotic Order of Does and later of Wyoming CowBelles. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Francis Wilkes, Burl Wilkes and Merlin Wilkes. Survivors include her husband; a son, Edward Wilson of Lodge Grass; a daughter, Jacque Friedrick of Sheridan; a sister, Betty Young of Cincinnati; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Robert S. Grissom, 73, of Dayton, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010, at his residence. Per his request, no services are planned. Born April 1, 1936, in St. Louis, Mo., to Walter Scott and Bertha (Frickelton) Grissom, he grew up and attended school in San Rafael, Calif., and graduated from San Rafael High School. He married Cheryl Brice in Billings on Sept. 24, 1986. Grissom was a truck driver and belonged to the Teamsters Union. He enjoyed sports and pheasant hunting. Julio Gaona, 81, of Ranchester, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010 in the Sheridan VA Medical Center. Gaona was born Jan. 28, 1928 in Anson, Texas, to Donaciano and Alejandra (Roque) Gaona. He joined the U.S. Army and was with the 3010th Army Air Forces Base Unit at Williams Field, Ariz., from January 2, 1947 to Dec. 21, 1949. Gaona married Guadalupe Barrera April 12, 1953, in Edroy, Texas. He was a timekeeper for Sheppard and Geiger in Texas, then moved to Casper where he was a maintenance worker and then he worked for Wyoming Machinery. Gaona enjoyed making salsa, experimenting with chili peppers, dancing, singing, reading the Bible, and especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Oscar; four sisters, Tirza, Celestina, Nicolasa, and Lasarra and three brothers, Lupe, Pablo and Baldomero. Gaona is survived by his wife, Guadalupe, of Ranchester, five sons, Donaciano David, Mario (Nadine), Ricardo, Gavino (Jennifer) and Oscar (Shannon) Gaona; two daughters, Lillian Serna (Juan) and Julie Condelario (Todd); two brothers, Rodolf and Jose (Cuca) Gaona; 15 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Coyne L. (Sonny) Tibbets, 73, died Saturday, January 9, 2010 at Sheridan Memorial hospital, following a long struggle with Parkinson’s Disease. Cremation has followed. A memorial service will be held at Kane Funeral Home, 689 Meridian on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. All family and friends are welcome to attend. Sonny was born November 1, 1936 in Sheridan Memorial Hospital to Coyne C. Tibbets and Marie P. Anderson-Tibbets. The family lived on a ranch north of Leiter, WY where he attended various country schools until old enough to attend Sheridan High School. He graduated with the class of 1954. He and his high school sweetheart, Margaret Leland, were married in August of 1955. They lived at the family ranch for nearly three years, then worked briefly on a ranch south of Buffalo. From there they moved to another ranch south of Gillette, where Sonny worked as a ranch hand until April of 1962. Sonny and his wife bought an irrigated place at Leiter to be operated in conjunction with his parents’ property. The couple were divorced in 1991. Sonny was active in the Cadiz School Board at Leiter, and later the combined board of Arvada, Leiter and Clearmont. He served 24 years as board member, including several terms as Board Chair, and was involved in the planning and building of the B.O.C.E.S. School in Gillette as well. He was also on the ditch board serving the Clearcreek valley, and was instrumental in helping to form the Cadiz Corporation to secure water for the State of Wyoming. For years, he also wrote regular editorials in the Country Journal and, later, The Sheridan Press under the title-name Willie and Sunshine . Sonny was a skilled big game hunter and guided out-of-state hunters at the family ranch and in the Big Horn Mountains for many years. In 1992, after losing the property to the state, he moved to Sheridan and studied to become a real estate agent. After passing the exams, he worked briefly for ABC Realty and Purcell Land Company, eventually striking out on his own as Sunshine Realty, specializing in rural properties. He was a member of the Realtor’s Association, serving as president for a year. He enjoyed writing, reading, particularly books by Louis L’Amour, and playing the guitar in his leisure moments. He is survived by six children, Coyne E. (Butch) of Orlando, FL, Diane Campbell, Susan Rochelle and Michael all of Sheridan, Elizabeth (Beth) Welsh of Redlands, CA, and David, whereabouts unknown, as well as eight grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made at First Interstate Bank, 4 South Main, Sheridan.
Larry Wayne “Gus” Gustafson, 71, of Sheridan passed away on Monday, January 11, 2010. Larry was born on January 5, 1939 in Robbinsdale, Minnesota to Harold and Hazel Gustafson. Upon graduation from high school Larry joined the US Marine Corps. After discharge from the Marine Corps he married the love of his life, Margie Ulmaniec and said on their first date that he was going to marry her. He did and they were married nearly 50 years. He often said he wished they had many more lifetimes together. They had two children together, Blair Gustafson and Holly Belus. Larry was known as Gus to all his friends and his wife says if she wanted to get his attention she had to call him Gus as he wouldn’t answer to Larry. After his discharge from the Marine Corps, Gus received diplomas under the GI bill for automotive mechanics and mechanical drawing. Gus was an avid wood worker and enjoyed his children and grand children immensely. He loved hunting, fishing, camping and reloading ammunitions. Another great joy of his was restoring antique motorcycles. Gus and his father owned and operated an automotive shop for about 10 years before Gus moved to Wyoming and went to work for Riley Motors as a Service Manager. He then went to work for the Burlington Northern Railroad where he worked as a conductor and a locomotive engineer. He was the union representative for Local 951 of the United Transportation Union for 13 years. He was a member of Lodge 8, the Scottish Rite and Kalif Temple. He was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church for over 40 years and served on the church vestry for three years during that time. He was also a Eucharistic Minister. He joined the Big Brothers/Sisters and he and his “Little” brother have been good friends for about 12 years. His “Little” brother is now a United States Marine and has served in Iraq. Gus especially enjoyed his annual hunting trips with his son and grandsons, his many camping trips with his son-in-law Tom, fishing, shooting and camping with his brothers-in-law. The most important things in Gus’ life were his wife and family. He was adored by them all. Larry was preceded in death by his parents Hazel and Harold. Survivors include his wife, Margie; children Blair (Shelly) Gustafson and Holly (Tom) Belus both of Sheridan, WY; siblings Gary Gustafson and Darlene Egbert of Wisconsin; five grandchildren Riley (David) Cook, Cassidy Belus, Cole, Noah and Grace Gustafson of Sheridan. Graveside services for former prominent Saratoga businessman, John Edward McNellis, will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 am, January 16, 2010 at the Saratoga Cemetery in Saratoga, Wyoming. A luncheon will follow in the Saratoga room at the Hotel Wolf at 11.30 a.m. A chapel service will be held Friday, January 15, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Bustards Funeral Home, 12 and Cy Street, Casper, Wyoming. He was born an only child to James (Bud) and Goldie McNellis on February 11, 1927 in Denver, Colorado. Mr. McNellis died peacefully at his home surrounded by his daughters and other loved ones. During World War II, he served his country for three years in the United States Navy. He then moved back to Rawlins, Wyoming and married Pearl Pudge on August 31, 1947 at the Presbyterian Church in Saratoga, Wyoming. They moved to Denver, Colorado where he attended the Barnes Business School. After earning his degree, they moved back to Saratoga where he apprenticed at the Saratoga State Bank under the guidance of Mr. Fred Healy. He became president-owner of the bank on August 6,1956. After many years, he sold the bank and continued doing business at his Platte Valley real estate and insurance company until he retired. He became a snowbird living half the year in Arizona and half the year in Wyoming. He was actively involved in the community. He was instrumental in getting the Saratoga swimming pool in place, the Sandy Beach Ski area at the Saratoga Lake, and took an active roll in the Ryan Park Ski Area. There wasn’t a weekend he went skiing that he didn’t have a full vehicle of kids he hauled to the mountain and back. He belonged to several clubs such as Shriners, the Saratoga Lions Club, Masons, Elks, American Legion, Odd Fellows, served as protem mayor for a short time, and was a member of the Saratoga Town Council. His hobbies included bowling, water and snow skiing, golf, camping out and taking jeep rides through the mountains, playing cards, watching a good baseball game, but most especially spending time with his family and friends. He very much enjoyed his annual trips to Yellowstone National Park to watch the wildlife and enjoy the peaceful scenery. He is survived by his four daughters: Linda (Eddie) Steelman of Billings, Montana, Karen Brinkman of Sheridan, Wyoming, Teddy (Bob) Ladmirault of Sheridan, Wyoming, and Paula (Paul) Dahlke of Casper, Wyoming. He has eleven grandchildren and twenty-seven great grandchildren that he very much loved and enjoyed. Mr. Maurer enjoyed hunting, fishing, dartball, pitching horseshoes, taking wildlife photos, and spending time with family and friends. She also worked at the Coffee Cup in Hamilton. She spent a short time in the U.S. Air Force, lived in Lubbock, Texas, and attended nursing college in Abilene, Texas, graduating as a registered nurse. She moved to Waco, Texas, to work for the Waco VA Medical Center. In 1982, she transferred to the Sheridan VA Medical Center, retiring in 1998. She was preceded in death by a sister, Ginny Golder. Velma F. Dunsdon, 92, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010, at Sheridan Manor. Burial will be in Tabor, Iowa, with arrangements by Kane Funeral Home. Born May 7, 1917, in Henderson, Iowa, to Horace C. and Stella I. (Baldozier) Winslow, she married G. Lyle Dunsdon in Tabor on March 4, 1936. They moved to Dayton in the 1940s. Her hobbies included sewing, embroidering and cooking. She was a member of Dayton Community Church. She was preceded in death by her husband and a granddaughter. Survivors include a daughter, Lyla Stout of Sheridan; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Gregory A. Humphrey, 92, of Dayton died Monday, Jan. 4, 2010, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Private services will be later with arrangements by Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Born Aug. 18, 1917, in Highland Park, Mich., to Robert and Gladys (Daniels) Humphrey, he grew up and graduated from high school in the Detroit area. He was employed in the mechanical engineering field all his working life. He was a member of the Bloomfield Township volunteer fire department in Michigan for 32 years and was a Civil War re-enactor for 20 years. Mr. Humphrey married Sharon Daniels in July 1984 in Bloomfield. The couple moved to Dayton in 1985, and he operated Humphrey’s Blacksmith Shop for seven years. He is survived by his wife.
Olin Russell Reasoner, son of Floyd Reasoner and Gladys (Long) Reasoner was born August 1, 1925 near Hopeville, Iowa and passed from this life January 2, 2010 at Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston, Iowa at 84 years of age. Olin grew up around the Hopeville area. At age 18, he was attending Thayer Consolidated High School when he was drafted and served in the US Army during WWII. He was presented the Purple Heart Ribbon and Medal for wounds received in action, Ribbon and two Bronze Service Stars, World War II Victory Ribbon and Medal, American Campaign Medal, Prisoner of War Ribbon and Medal for 1944 Rhineland and Ardennes Battles. After the war, he started farming and retired from farming March 14, 2003 at age 78. He was united in marriage to LaViece Emma Chew Fletcher on January 14, 1967. LaViece passed away on March 9, 2002; they were married for 35 years. Olin’s greatest passion was farming, but he loved every chance he had spending time with family. Olin was a member of William-Lochrie Post #405 American Legion in Murray, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the USA Post #8882 in Afton, life member of AM VETS in Osceola, life member of American Ex Prisoners of War, life member of Disabled American Veterans in Des Moines, and Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie #1398 in Creston. Those relatives who preceded Olin in death were his parents; wife, LaViece; and brothers, Bob Reasoner and Dale Reasoner. Hollis L. “Holly” Davidson, 82, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010, in his Sheridan home surrounded by his family. Memorial service is 1 p.m. Saturday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses with Jeremy Mason officiating. A luncheon reception will follow at the Sheridan Senior Center. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Born Sept. 6, 1927, in Sheridan to Lambert and Florence (Achenbach) Davidson, he grew up and graduated from high school here. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Korea. After the service he returned to Sheridan, where he married LaVurne Cox on Dec. 25, 1948. He worked as a machinist for Holly Sugar, Sheridan Iron Works, Kennedy Auto, Skarr Motor and Valley Motor Supply, retiring in 1983. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, wood- and metalworking, restoring antique cars, and fabricating items for family and friends. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Bruce and Dan of Sheridan; a daughter, Connie Turley of Sheridan; a brother, Norris Davidson of Story; nine grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. Memorials may benefit Hospice of the Big Horns or Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Richard James Taberna, 62, of Big Horn died Monday, Jan. 4, 2010, at his home. Memorial service is 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Name Catholic Church with the Rev. Ron Stolcis officiating. Born Sept. 20, 1947, in Sheridan to Joseph and Joan Taberna, he attended Holy Name Catholic School, graduated from Sheridan High School, and attended Sheridan College and Montana State University in Missoula, where he was a member of the ski team. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing music, downhill skiing, riding horses, ranch work, attending music festivals, and time spent with friends and family. He was a member of the original international cast of “Up With People” and played in bands professionally for many years. He was a personal representative and venue manager for Canadian singer Ian Tyson. Mr. Taberna was a volunteer fireman with the Big Horn Fire Department for 22 years, a ski instructor for 35 years, and a member of the Professional Ski Instructors of America. Survivors include his wife, Paula; a son, Joseph Paul Taberna of Big Horn; two daughters, Magdalena Rose Taberna and Margaret Lee Taberna, both of Big Horn; a half sister, Jackie Green; and three stepsisters, Cinder Destefano and Shannon Dahl of Sheridan and Jerry Lee Hershrud of Columbus, Mont. Gregory A. Humphrey, 92, of Dayton died Monday, Jan. 4, 2010, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Private services will be later. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Born Aug. 18, 1917, in Highland Park, Mich., to Robert and Gladys (Daniels) Humphrey, he grew up and graduated from high school in the Detroit area. He was a member of the volunteer fire department and a Civil War re-enactor. He married Sharon Daniels in July 1984 in Bloomfield, Mich. The couple moved to Dayton in 1985, and he operated the Dayton Blacksmith Shop for seven years. He is survived by his wife.
Leonie Clemence Major, 67, of Dayton died Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010, at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper. Visitation and Christian wake service are 6 p.m. today with rosary at 7 p.m. at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral service is 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Edmund’s Church in Ranchester with the Rev. Ron Stolcis officiating. A luncheon reception will follow at Tongue River Valley Community Center in Dayton. Born July 5, 1942, in Springfield, Mass., to Norman and Marie Major, she served in the U.S. Navy and worked in finance for the Department of Civil Service, retiring after 32 years of government employment. She enjoyed photography, “fixing things,” nature, travel, planting trees, yard work, and animals, especially her cats. She was a volunteer at San Benito Monastery in Dayton and the Sheridan Senior Center. She was preceded in death by six brothers, Laurent Major, Norman Major, Robert Major, Ronald Major, Roy Major and Gerald Major. Dixie L. Holmes, 74, of Sheridan, passed away at her residence on Saturday, December 26, 2009. Dixie was born on March 22, 1935 in Havre, MT, to Richard H. “Dick” and Isabelle R. (Achenbach) Ellis. She graduated from Sheridan High School in 1953, and married George B. “Sonny” Holmes on October 10, 1953 at the Methodist Church in Sheridan, WY. Before moving to Sheridan in 1977, Dixie lived at the family ranch, Rancholme Cattle Co. in Decker, MT. For a brief time from 2000 to June 2003, she lived in Arizona. Sonny and Dixie had two children, Michele Denise “Shelly” Holmes and Mark Dennis Holmes. Dixie enjoyed being a full-time wife, mother, grandma and great-grandma. She liked dancing, playing cards, video poker machines, rodeos, fishing, traveling, and telling good jokes. She especially enjoyed going to Las Vegas with Sonny and gambling (especially winning Royals on poker machines). Dixie also loved visiting with people and getting to know about them and their families. She was also a member of the Elks BPO Does. Dixie was preceded in death by her eighteen year old son, Mark Holmes (1973), father “Dick” Ellis (1978), Step father, Ray Olson (1992); husband, “Sonny” Holmes (2002) and mother Isabelle Olson (2003). Dixie is survived by her daughter: Michele D. “Shelly” Holmes of Cave Creek, AZ; brother, Rick (Lola) Ellis of Cave Creek, AZ; aunt Margie Rogers of Sheridan, Wyoming; grandsons Mark (Abby) Moreland, of Decker, MT and Justin (Nicole) Moreland of Story, WY; great-grandchildren Austin, Caden and Alanah Moreland of Decker, MT and Damien Moreland of Story, WY; nieces, Debbie Miller of Spanish Fork, UT and Shana (Joe) McClinton of Colorado Springs, CO; nephew, Shawn (Kathy) Ellis of Las Vegas, NV; great-nieces and nephews, Hunter Byrd, Ryan Miller, Robbie Miller and Remington, Sterling and Windham Ellis. A viewing will be held 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 7, 2010 at Kane Funeral Home. Sheridan native Mary Amschel McEwan, 87, died Monday, Dec. 21, 2009, in Hemet, Calif. Funeral services were Dec. 30 at Inland Memorial Harford Chapel in Hemet. Private burial is planned. Born June 6, 1922, in Sheridan, she graduated from Sheridan High School and was nominated Queen of the Sheridan, Wyoming Rodeo in 1941. She married U.S. Army Air Corps 1st Lt. James Edward Amschel on April 15, 1942. After he attended law school in Laramie, the couple moved with their two sons to Jackson, where another son was born. They moved to Hemet in 1959. She was a legal secretary and was active in the Ramona Pageant Association and Family Service Association in Hemet. Mr. Amschel died in 1977. She married retired Wyoming Supreme Court Justice Leonard McEwan in 1988, and they made her home in Story. Mr. McEwan died in 2008. Survivors include three sons, Edward T. Amschel, Peter Amschel and Stephen Amschel; a brother, Thomas K. Hurst of Sheridan; a sister, Barbara McConnell of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Memorials may benefit the Ramona Pageant Association or Family Service Association.

Ann “Millie” Wantulok, 92, of Wyarno died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, in Westview Health Care Center. Funeral service are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronald Stolcis officiating. Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Born July 17, 1917, in Acme to Adam and Regina (Blaha) Boyko, she grew up in this area and graduated from Sheridan High School. She worked at the Bones Brothers Dude Ranch near Birney, Mont., when she was a teenager. She married Paul M. Wantulok on Nov. 23, 1941, in Acme, where she raised their children, her animals and gardened. They moved to Wyarno in 1956, where she helped with ranch work and raising her grandchildren. Mrs. Wantulok enjoyed having a porch full of family and friends for a Sunday meal and the back yard full of friends and relatives in the summer. An avid seamstress, she took a tailoring class to design quilts and other crafts. She was active in the Wyarno community as a clerk in School District 35, an election judge in the Wyarno precinct, and a member of the Ulm Hilltoppers women's group. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1987; a daughter, Johanna; her sister; and her brother. Survivors include two daughters, Gina Twohy of Sheridan and Nancy Herdt of Wyarno; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Sheridan native Carol Ann “Bitsy” Napier Rogers died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009, in Lodi, Calif. Services were Dec. 23 at St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church in Lodi. Born Aug. 22, 1926, in Sheridan to Louis J. and Bessie W. Farley Napier, she was raised on the Diamond Four Ranch south of Gillette on the 4J Road where her parents homesteaded in 1906. She graduated from Campbell County High School in Gillette, Stephens College in Columbia, Mo., and the University of Denver with a master’s degree in psychology. She and her husband, Louis Rogers, moved with one son to Vallejo, Calif., in 1966, where twin sons were born. The family moved to Lodi in 1971. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church in Lodi, and worked as a child psychologist for Lodi Unified School District until retirement in 1989. She was a volunteer with the Women’s Center in Lodi and active in the local chapter of American Association of University Women. She was preceded in death by her eldest son Joseph in 1982, brother Joseph Napier of Sheridan and sister Mary Lou West of Dayton. Survivors include sons Don of Sacramento, Calif., and Mike of Lodi; a granddaughter; and a nephew. Memorials may benefit the building fund of St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church, 1055 S.
