Edward A. Livingston, 67, of Sheridan died Sunday, July 16, 2006, at his residence. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Ken Doolin officiating. Josephine C. "Jo" Craft, 66, of Basin died Wednesday, July 26, 2006, at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper surrounded by her family. She was mother of Gary Craft of Sheridan. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Basin with the Rev. Jack Preston officiating. Viewing will be 9-9:45 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in the Mount View Cemetery in Basin. Arrangements are with Atwood Family Funeral Directors Inc. Mrs. Craft was born May 23, 1940, in Basin to Cone and Mel (Durfey) Cornett. She grew up in Hyattville and attended schools there and in Manderson. She was a graduate of Manderson High School. She married Claude C. Craft on May 17, 1958, in Hyattville. She was a housewife and cooked for the Manderson School for many years. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, watching her grandchildren participate in sports and playing cards with friends. She was a member and first president of the Manderson Homemakers, a member of the United Methodist Church of Basin, a member of the Riverside High School Booster Club and a "Reading Grandma" at the Laura Irwin Elementary School. She was preceded in death by a brother, Don, and a sister, Molly. Other survivors include her husband, of Basin; another son, Claude Jr. of Basin; a daughter, Marcia West of Worland; a brother, Chuck Cornett of Worland; a sister, Pati McKim of Manderson; and seven grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established at the Security State Bank, P.O. Box 531, Basin, WY 82410. Disposition of proceeds will be decided at a later time.

Funeral services for Anne M. Williams, 71, of Big Horn will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with the Rev. David Duprey officiating. Burial will be in the Elks Section of Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Williams died Wednesday, July 26, 2006, in Sheridan Manor. She was born March 17, 1935, in St. Louis to John and Cornelia (Wheaton) McMillan. She grew up in St. Louis and attended Mary Institute. She graduated from Westover School in Middlebury, Conn., then attended Colorado A&M (now Colorado State University) in Fort Collins. Her family began going to Eatons' Ranch in 1947. She moved to Sheridan in 1955. She married Gene Williams on June 22, 1956, at the Beaver Creek Ranch. They remained on the ranch until 1981, when they moved to Big Horn. They moved to The Powder Horn in 1999. Mrs. Williams enjoyed knitting, needlepoint, cooking, entertaining, swimming, gardening, growing flowers and yard work. She was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church. She was preceded in death by one daughter and one son. Survivors include her husband; a son, Stan of Big Horn; three daughters, Sharon Kobold of Big Horn, Becky Milobar of Surprise, Ariz., and Laura Duran of Glenrock; a brother, John S. McMillan of Maryland Heights, Md.; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Memorials may be made to Big Horn Lions Club.
No services are scheduled for Edna Irene Pinky Brimmer, 86, of Sheridan. She died Wednesday, July 26, 2006, at Westview Health Care Center. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Brimmer was born April 19, 1920, in Sundance to William Henry and Ellen (Kelly) Thorn. She married Wiley Brimmer on March 12, 1938, in Deadwood, S.D. She worked as a nursing instructor most of her life. She enjoyed horseback riding, fishing and most outdoor activities. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Tim; a brother, Theodore Thorn; and a sister, Helen Hulsinger. Survivors include a daughter, Judy Pehringer, and a son, David, both of Sheridan; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He moved to Sheridan in 1990 and worked for the Salvation Army, Burger King and other businesses through senior employment. He was a volunteer at Sheridan VA Medical Center for many years. He enjoyed old movies, picnics, the mountains, bingo and spending time with family and friends. He was preceded in death by a sister, Maxine. Note: Mr. Higgins' obituary was published in Wednesday's Sheridan Press, but some information provided by the funeral home was incorrect.
Sheridan native Alicia Margaret Wiberg Russell, 64, died Wednesday, July 26, 2006, in Sacramento, Calif. Cremation has taken place, and a vigil will be later, according to her family. She was born Dec. 22, 1941, in Sheridan to Clifford Wiberg and Catherine Cunningham. Survivors include 13 siblings, Arland Wiberg, Sylvia Sadler, Carol Depoorter, Cliff Wiberg Jr., Catherine Joan Anich, Regina Reese, Doretta Dunham, Monica Shockey, Bridget LaMotte, Christopher Wiberg, Nelia May, Richard Wiberg and Mary Geertz.

Funeral services for Mary E. Sweem, 69, of Sheridan will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronald Stolcis officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with military honors by the Wyoming National Guard and American Legion Post 7. Mrs. Sweem died Thursday, July 20, 2006, at her residence. She was born Oct. 26, 1936, in Kleenburn to George and Lena (Legerski) Jensik Sr. She attended Monarch School and was a 1954 graduate of Sheridan High School. She enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in January 1955 and was honorably discharged in December 1956. She married Bill Jennings Sweem on Nov. 12, 1959, in Sheridan. She was mainly a homemaker, but she worked at various times at Woolworth's, Boyd's Super Market and Kmart. She was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church and the American Legion. She enjoyed reading, jigsaw puzzles, bingo, going to Deadwood, S.D., with friends, gardening and the company of her dachshunds. She was preceded in death by her husband and a sister. Survivors include a son, Bill M. of Sheridan; a brother, George Jensik Jr. of Sheridan; three sisters, Wilma Meryhew of Sheridan, Betty Bell of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, and Margaret Boaz of Portland, Ore.; and two grandchildren. Benjamin Fowler Anderson, 58, of Sheridan died Sunday, July 23, 2006, of cancer. In accordance with his wishes, no services are planned. He requested that anyone who wishes to remember him do so "in whatever manner you feel best," according to Champion Ferries Funeral Home, which is handling arrangements. Mr. Anderson was born July 19, 1948, in Sheridan to John G. and Tooney Anderson. He lived in the Sheridan area all his life. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian Bohlin; his parents; and a brother, Henry. Survivors include a sister, Richmond, and four brothers, Lawrence, John, Martin and Lincoln.
BUFFALO Robert Raymond "Bob" Holt, 88, of Buffalo died Monday, July 24, 2006, in Johnson County Health Care Center. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. Thursday and 8-9:30 a.m. Friday in the chapel. Memorials may be made to Johnson County Memorial Hospital Foundation in care of the funeral home.
Mina Lea Svoboda, 90, of Hulett died Saturday, July 22, 2006, at her residence. She was mother of Roger D. Svoboda of Banner. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Hulett Cemetery with the Rev. Tim Berkshire officiating. Arrangements are with Kline Funeral Chapel in Belle Fourche, S.D. Mrs. Svoboda was born Nov. 10, 1915, on her grandfather's homestead on Beaver Creek north of Alva to Vane and Lizzie Cooke. She married Dean L. Svoboda on Nov. 19, 1938. They lived in Crook County except for one year in Oregon. Mrs. Svoboda taught in country schools around the Crook County area, and she and her husband owned and operated the Motel Pioneer and Bear Lodge Building and Supply in Hulett. Mr. Svoboda died May 7, 1989. Mrs. Svoboda was also preceded in death by a daughter, Alice, and a sister, Iva Mae Trigg. Survivors include another son, Larry of Webster, Texas; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Hulett Volunteer Fire Department.

He was born June 26, 1965, in Sheridan to Kenneth and Iona (Anderson) Troutt. He graduated from Sheridan High School and worked in a variety of vocations from managing a gold-mining plant to automobile bodywork. He enjoyed rebuilding older 4-by-4 pickup trucks. He was preceded in death by his mother and an infant brother, Kelly. Survivors include his father of Sheridan and two brothers, Kim and Kirby.

Funeral services for Charlotte Sylvia Wiederien, 83, of Sheridan will be 10 a.m. Monday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo with the Rev. Bob McHenry officiating. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Willow Grove Cemetery in Buffalo. Mrs. Wiederien died Wednesday, July 19, 2006, in Sheridan Manor. She was born Nov. 4, 1922, in Buffalo to Charles and Agnes Washbaugh. She grew up and attended schools in Buffalo. She was a 1941 graduate of Johnson County High School. She attended Heimans Business College in Sheridan for a year, then worked in the field superintendent's office for Amoco in Midwest for 16 years, beginning in 1942. She married Albert "Jack" Wiederien on Aug. 9, 1943, in Billings. They made their home in Midwest until 1979, when Mr. Wiederien retired, and they moved to Buffalo. They moved to Sheridan Manor in 1999. Mr. Wiederien died in January 2000. Mrs. Wiederien was a member of the Midwest Royal Neighbors of America, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and Rebekah Lodge. She enjoyed music, hunting and fishing trips with her husband, and growing flowers. She was an avid reader and did needlework and crocheting. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son and six sisters. Survivors include a daughter, Cindy Phillips of Story; and a grandson.

A celebration of life for Sheridan native Leonard Franklin Kimmel, 54, of Spearfish, S.D., will be 11 a.m. Friday at Bethesda Worship Center with the Rev. Scott Lee officiating. Mr. Kimmel died Friday, July 7, 2006, in Spearfish. Cremation has taken place. A private scattering of Mr. Kimmel's ashes will be later. He was born March 23, 1952, in Sheridan to Jean and Margaret Kimmel. He attended Sheridan schools. He married Pat Crouch in 1994. They moved to Spearfish in 1997. They were separated in 2000. Mr. Kimmel worked at his family's Laundromat, operated a carpet-cleaning business, worked as a laborer and mechanic in Alaska, and was a truck driver. He enjoyed being with family and friends, hunting, fishing and camping in the mountains, and was an avid pool player. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include four stepchildren, Jennifer Donohoo and Jeremy, Josh and Jordan Crouch; a sister, Alice Harnish of Sheridan; two brothers, Billy of Sheridan and Jean of Talkeetna, Alaska; and five grandchildren. Mrs. Willms died Friday, July 14, 2006, in Westview Health Care Center. Cremation has taken place. She was born Aug. 23, 1922, in Springfield, Mass., to Raymond and Emma (Johnson) Wade. She married Alfred Green. He died in 1974. She later married Emil Willms. He also preceded her in death. Mrs. Willms worked as a secretary at Sheridan VA Medical Center for many years. She enjoyed quilting, photography and camping and belonged to the Bots Sots Recreational Vehicle Club. She was the longtime companion of Chuck Mitchell. Survivors include two daughters, Marcia Suranyi and Janice Green, both of Sheridan; a son, J. Robert Green of Loyalton, Calif.; a sister, Marion Stockwell of Natick, Mass.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Hurst died Monday, July 17, 2006, in Westview Health Care Center. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Hurst was born March 13, 1933, in Somerset, Pa., to Walter and Grace (Riches) Williams. She was a 1951 graduate of Rawlins High School. She married Leonard Hurst on May 19, 1952, in Sinclair. She enjoyed crocheting, painting and ceramics and was an avid reader. She was a member of Presbyterian Women, the Red Hat Society and Jeans and Queens Square Dancing Club. She cooked for the Lunch Together program, was a Habitat for Humanity volunteer, and was a founder of Sheridan's first day care center, now known as the Child Care Center. She was a bookkeeper for Best Western Sheridan Center for more than 20 years. Survivors include her husband of Sheridan; a daughter, Dannon Bury of Abington, Md.; three sons, John of Austin, Texas, Timothy of Craig, Colo., and David of Cheyenne; her mother; two brothers, James Williams of Dayton, Ohio, and Jack Williams of Rawlins; two sisters, Frances Campbell of Buffalo and Susan Pixley of Rawlins; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Former Sheridan resident Edward K. Ratcliff, 71, of Lakewood, Colo., died Friday, June 16, 2006, in Denver after a brief battle with cancer. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Sheridan Elks Lodge 520 in Sheridan, with officers of the Lodge officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Ratcliff was born July 2, 1934, in Dayton to P.W. and Opal Ratcliff. He was employed by the U.S. Forest Service for 35 years, until he retired in Colorado. He was a former officer and a life member of Sheridan Elks Lodge 520. He was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers. Survivors include his wife, Winona; a son, Charles of Briggs, Okla.; two sisters, Betty Reichert of Dayton and Lucy Dudley of South Dakota; and a brother, Sam of Arizona. Mrs. Donnafield died Saturday, July 15, 2006, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. She was born Nov. 28, 1928, in Fromberg, Mont., to John and Lena (Haman) Schleining. She married Urban Donnafield on Dec. 13, 1947, in Hardin, Mont. She received her nursing degree from Deaconess School of Nursing at Montana State University, and she worked as a registered nurse at the VA Hospital for 20 years. She enjoyed gardening, fishing and wildlife. She was preceded in death by a brother, John. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Louise Ann Bard of Sheridan and Kathleen Lee Donnafield of Denver; a son, Urban Roy of Sheridan; a sister, Betsy Schleining; and a brother, James; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Helen Mae Goodwin, 78, of Casper died Thursday, July 13, 2006, in Central Wyoming Hospice Home. She was mother of Tom Goodwin of Sheridan. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday in the Newcomer Family Funeral Home in Casper with the Rev. Buddy Hanson of Mountain View Baptist Church officiating. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday in Douglas Park Cemetery in Douglas. Viewing will be 1-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mrs. Goodwin was born June 30, 1928, in Erlanger, Ky., to Edward Smith and Lydia Margaret Yelton. She grew up in Erlanger and worked in Cincinnati as a teenager. She and her mother moved to Tucson, Ariz., because of problems she suffered with her health. She met her husband, Arthur, in Arizona. She lived in several states and, in 1964, moved to Taiwan. Memorial services for W.V. Vern McNair, 89, of Sheridan will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Kane Funeral Home with Deacon Joe Kristufek officiating. Mr. McNair died Friday, July 7, 2006, in Westview Health Care Center. At his request, cremation has taken place. He was born May 14, 1917, in Sheridan to Clyde and Ethel (Richards) McNair. He left Sheridan for a few years at the start of World War II and was a machinist at Martin Aircraft in Nebraska. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1943 and was involved in the Third Fleet Operation and in Okinawa. He was honorably discharged in 1946 with the rank of sergeant. He married Melba Gunter. They divorced. He married Darlene Beedle Abbott on Jan. 16, 1982, in Buffalo. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and was an avid reader, especially of mysteries and Westerns. He was a self-employed paint contractor from 1949 until age 71, when he retired. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Velda Cohn, Violet Thobe and Vera Talcott, and a brother, Verl McNair. Survivors include his wife; a son, Lawrence of Daggett, Calif.; two stepdaughters, Kathy Kate Taylor of Wickenburg, Ariz., and Laureen Dozier of Walnut Springs, Texas; a sister, Betty Raymond of Sheridan; two brothers, Bill of Escondido, Calif., and Gene of Sheridan; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She enjoyed knitting, playing bridge, investing, collecting dolls and artwork, and researching her genealogy. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Laird, and a son, Jeffrey Genster. Former Sheridan resident Joseph Richard Moore, 17, of San Luis Obispo, Calif., died Wednesday, July 5, 2006, in a car accident between Buffalo and Kaycee. Funeral services were Saturday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo. A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday in Church of the Nazarene in Los Osos, Calif. Mr. Moore was born Oct. 10, 1988, in Buffalo to Gary and Debra Moore Sr. The family moved to Sheridan when he was a child, and he attended Sheridan schools until third grade. The family moved to Wisconsin. His parents died in 2004, and he moved to California to live with relatives. He enjoyed hiking and spending time with friends. He was a member of Church of the Nazarene in San Luis Obispo. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents Mary McCord, Althea Moore and Ben Moore. He worked in Wyoming oil fields until the early 1980s, then moved to Washington state, where he farmed and worked as a mechanic. He obtained his journeyman electrician card and worked as an electrician until December 2005. He moved back to Wyoming in summer 2003 to be closer to his family. He worked for Ultimate Electric for several years. He was a member of Grace Harvest Church in Moses Lake, Wash., and Cornerstone Church in Sheridan. He enjoyed gold-panning with his brother. He was preceded in death by his father. Survivors include his mother of Sheridan; his wife, Julia; four daughters, LaCosta Dyer, Jami Lewallen and Monica MacMillan, all of Casper, and Audreanne Lewallen of Douglas; 11 brothers and sisters, including Andy, Venita and Denice Lewallen, all of Sheridan, and Shelly Svilar and Cheryle Brewer of Moses Lake; and nine grandchildren. He worked for Burlington Northern Railroad in Sheridan until 1968, when he transferred to Alliance, Neb. He was transferred to Denver, where he retired in January 1969. He married Helen Armstrong on Oct. 14, 1937, in Sheridan. He was a member of the Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the Democratic Party. He was an avid Yankees fan. He was preceded in death by a brother, Harry, and two sisters, Rose Green and Jean Springer. Survivors include three daughters, Sharon Moll of Seattle and Patty Johnson and Marcia Bates, both of Edgewater; two sisters, Mary Smith and Ann Arnieri, both of Sheridan; nine grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. Christina Lynn Raulerson, 20, of Cheyenne, died Saturday, July 1, 2006, in Layton, Utah. She was daughter of Susan Drew and sister of Tim and Nick Raulerson, all of Sheridan. Miss Raulerson was born Aug. 12, 1985, in Cheyenne and had lived there most of her life. She attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Ms. Westika died Thursday, June 29, 2006, as the result of a car accident while she was vacationing in Raymond, Ill. She was born Nov. 26, 1962, in Sheridan to LeRoy and Susie Westika. She was an enrolled member of the Northern Cheyenne. She grew up in Sheridan, attended Holy Name School and was a 1982 graduate of Sheridan High School. She attended Sheridan College for one year. She worked at Sheridan Memorial Hospital for a few years. In 1990, she received her X-ray technician degree from Great Falls, Mont. She moved to Casper and worked at Wyoming Medical Center. She returned to Sheridan in 1998 to be closer to her family. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and working on her yard and flowers. She attended school functions and sporting events that involved her children. Survivors include two children, Nysha Rae and Michael Wade, both of Sheridan; her parents; and two brothers, Anthony Wade of Ogden, Utah, and Paul Michael of Sheridan.

Scott George Shafer, 21, of Casper died Sunday, June 25, 2006, in a rafting accident at the North Platte River water park in Casper. He was brother of Chris Wallace and Cindy Craft, both of Sheridan. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church in Worland and 2 p.m. Saturday at Highland Park Community Church in Casper. The Rev. Mike Brush will officiate at both services. Bryant Funeral Home of Worland is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Shafer was born March 9, 1985, in Worland to Mary Ellen and Steve Shafer. He lived in Burley, Idaho, for a short time when he was a toddler, then his family returned to Worland, where he grew up and attended school. He was a 2003 graduate of Worland High School and a 2006 graduate of Casper College with an Associate of Applied Science degree in aviation. He wanted to work in aviation from childhood and worked for G&W Aviation in Thermopolis during his junior year in high school. As a senior, he worked for Sky Aviation as a flagger and loader in a spray-plane operation. While attending Casper College, he worked as a line technician for Trajen Flight Support and also for Skywest Airlines at the Casper airport. He had private, instrument and commercial pilot ratings and became a flight instructor for Wyoming Air Corp. during his last year at Casper College. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and also enjoyed hiking, boating, waterskiing, snowboarding, playing golf and riding his motorcycle. In addition to his brother and sister, survivors include his father of Casper; his mother, Mary Ellen Girard of Worland; two sisters, Stephanie Shafer and Melissa Law, both of Casper; and a stepbrother, Jay Girard, and a stepsister, Dina Trang, both of Dillon, Mont. The family has asked that memorials be made to the Scott Shafer Memorial Scholarship, through the Casper College Foundation, or the Scott Shafer Memorial Aviation Scholarship Fund through First Interstate Bank in Casper. Evan Ivar Martinsen, 92, of Butte, Mont., died Tuesday, June 27, 2006, at St. James Healthcare. He was brother of Richard Martinsen of Sheridan. Funeral services were Friday in First Presbyterian Church, Platinum and Excelsior, with the Rev. Wayne Fisher officiating. Burial with military and Masonic honors was in Mountain View Cemetery. Mr. Martinsen was born Nov. 29, 1913, in Salt Lake City to Ivar and Mathea (Hage) Martinsen. He attended grade school and high school in Butte and was a graduate of Butte High School and Kinman Business College. He married Virginia Dougherty on Nov. 4, 1939. They lived in Lewistown and Dillon, Mont., before settling in Butte, where Mr. Martinsen worked for Sullivan Valve and Engineering, Domestic Manganese and Development and the Montana Department of Transportation, from which he retired He served in the Army during World War II, receiving an honorable discharge in 1946. He was a member of Mount Moriah Lodge 24 AF&AM, Baghdad Temple of the Shrine and American Legion Post 1 and was a lifetime member of BPO Elks 240, all in Butte. He was preceded in death by his wife and a sister, Christine Strom. In addition to his brother, survivors include three daughters, Sandy Kieckbusch of Whitehall, Mont., Susan Harrington of Klamath Falls, Ore., and Sally Bardsley of Butte; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A celebration of life for former Sheridan resident Athareda Rita Zak Nordstrom, 73, of Casper will be 5 p.m. today at 402 Schiller St. in Sheridan. Mrs. Nordstrom died Thursday, June 29, 2006, at Life Care Center in Casper. She was born May 12, 1933, in Minneapolis to Simon and Della (Hayes) Zak. She grew up and attended school in Minneapolis. She later owned and operating a beauty salon. She married Charles A. Nordstrom Jr. on June 18, 1955. They moved to Colorado Springs, Colo. Mr. Nordstrom died in 1966. Mrs. Nordstrom moved to the Sheridan area. She owned a restaurant and cooked in many other restaurants over the years. She moved to Tucson, Ariz., for a few years before moving to Casper in 1999 to be near her daughter. Survivors include her daughter, Cindy, and five grandchildren.

He worked as a dairyman and farmer with his father, spending his life on the family ranch on Big Goose until he retired. He also drove school buses for Sheridan County School Districts 1 and 2 for many years. He married Bethel Jean Middleton on May 23, 1980, in Story. He enjoyed the mountains, woodworking, visiting with friends, travel and hunting. In his younger years, he and his horse, Traveler, were in Sheridan-WYO Rodeo parades. He also enjoyed dances at Big Goose Community Clubhouse. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary. Survivors include his second wife, Bethel Jean; a daughter, Sandra Bradley; stepchildren Debi Christman, Cathy Konzal, Brenda Ennis and Bill Sterck; a sister, Alta June Pool; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Michael Dean Meyers, 19, of Gillette, died Saturday, July 1, 2006, after being injured in a one-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 14 in the Big Horn Mountains. Memorial services for Dorothy A. Mortenson, 86, of Sheridan will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Dan Keller officiating. Mrs. Mortenson died Thursday, June 29, 2006, in Sheridan Manor. She was born Oct. 15, 1919, in Sheridan to A.S. Doc and Maude (Barnes) Russell. She grew up in the Sheridan area and graduated from high school in Big Horn. She worked on Curley Wetzel's ranch for a time. She married Carl Mortenson on Nov. 28. 1940, in Sheridan. They owned a dairy farm near Big Horn for 15 years, then ranched on Pass Creek for Dorothy Kerns. They moved to Ranchester in 1966. Mrs. Mortenson worked at haying with her husband, then cleaned homes for many years. She also worked for Bloedorn Lumber from 1997 until this spring. Her husband died in 1999, and she moved to Sheridan in 2004. She enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling and painting. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters. Survivors include two daughters, Becky Bruce of Spearfish, S.D., and Margo Humes of Moorcroft; three grandsons; three great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. Melba Irene Gilkey, 85, of Sheridan died Saturday, July 1, 2006, at Sheridan Manor. At her request, cremation has taken place, and no services are scheduled. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Gilkey was born Jan. 30, 1921, in Carrollton, Mo., to Marion and Mary (Prout) Fisher. She was a bookkeeper at the Bank of Commerce. She married Franklin Gilkey on April 21, 1939, in Gillette. They resided in Story for 14 years. Mrs. Gilkey enjoyed gardening, quilting, needlework and collecting antiques. She was preceded in death by her husband and a son, Joe. Survivors include a daughter, Sally Francis of Sheridan; siblings Charles Fisher of Sheridan, Alfred Bekebrede of Davis, Calif., and Mary Chesnut of Roseville, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Clara Owen, 94, of Sheridan died Friday, June 30, 2006, at Westview Health Care Center. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Dan Keller officiating. Former Sheridan resident Athareda Rita Zak Nordstrom, 73, of Casper died Thursday, June 29, 2006, in the Life Care Center in Casper. A celebration of life will be 5 p.m. Thursday at 402 Schiller St. in Sheridan. Cremation will occur, and she will be buried in Colorado Springs, Colo., beside her husband. Arrangements are with Bustard's Funeral Home of Casper. She was born May 12, 1933 in Minneapolis to Simon and Della (Hayes) Zak. She grew up and and went to school in Minneapolis and later owned and operated a beauty salon there. She married Charles A. Nordstrom Jr. on June 18, 1955. They moved to Colorado Springs. Mr. Nordstrom died in 1966, and she moved to the Sheridan area. She owned a restaurant and cooked in a number of other restaurants over the years. She moved to Tucson, Ariz., for a few years before moving to Casper in 1999 to be near family. She enjoyed cooking, painting ceramics, playing cards and games, and travel. She was a member of Sheridan Eagles Aerie 186 and the Methodist Church here. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Arnold Zak, and one sister, Mildred Chmielewski. Survivors include a daughter, Cindy Tipton of Casper; a sister, Helen Laumann, and brother, Wayne Chmielewski, both of Sheridan; and five grandchildren.
BUFFALO Karen Gier, 65, of Buffalo died Saturday, June 24, 2006, at her residence. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tom Saur officiating.
