Cecil Lynn Bilyeu, 90, of Sheridan died Thursday, March 28, 2002, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Funeral liturgy will be 2 p.m. Monday at Holy Name Catholic Church with Father Robert Fox as celebrant. Burial of cremains will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Bilyeu was born Feb. 22, 1912, in Sheridan to Charles W. and Mae (Murray) Bilyeu. He grew up in Sheridan and attended Sheridan schools. He married Marie Klinkosh June 31, 1933, in Hardin, Mont. He was a steamfitter, plumber and maintenance supervisor for the VA hospitals in Sheridan and Roseburg, Ore., for 47 years. The Bilyeus moved to Harlowton, Mont., after he retired, then returned to Sheridan in 1995. Mr. Bilyeu enjoyed hunting, fishing, collecting antiques and raising animals. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1995, four brothers and five sisters. Survivors include one daughter, Betty Radford of Sheridan; a sister, Doris Cook of Kennewick, Wash.; one granddaughter; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank in Sheridan.
Glenn C. Workman, 87, of Sheridan died Friday, March 29, 2002, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Viewing will be 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Douglas Goodwin officiating. Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Janaya Katherine Jones, 10, of Gillette died Wednesday, March 27, 2002, at her home of respiratory failure. She was granddaughter of former Sheridan residents Ray and Mary Kay Hudson, now of Loveland, Colo. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Gillette Christian Center with Pastor Clinton Pickrel officiating, assisted by Deacon Joe Kristufek from Lame Deer, Mont. Burial will follow at Mount Pisgah Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. She was born Sept. 29, 1991, in Gillette to Don and Lisa (Hudson) Jones. She struggled with a variety of medical problems throughout her life. She was preceded in death by a grandfather, Gene Jones. Survivors include her parents; a sister, Melissa; and another grandmother, Ramona Jones of Gillette. A memorial has been established in Janayas name in care of Wilson Funeral Home, 210 W. Fifth St., Gillette, WY 82716.
Former Sheridan resident Helen M. Morrison, 84, died Wednesday, March 27, 2002, at Carriage of Coupeville on Whidbey Island, Wash. She was sister of John Terry of Sheridan. She was born March 17, 1918, in Sheridan and attended school in Buffalo. She was a former teacher, insurance agent and employee of Montana-Dakota Utilities. She was preceded in death by two children, Terry Crandall and Lorna Crandall States. Other survivors include her husband, Darwin, and three grandchildren. Arrangements are with Visser Funeral Home of Langley, Wash.

William G. Amman, 74, of Sheridan died Tuesday, March 26, 2002, at Westview Health Care Center. Rosary services will be 7 p.m. Monday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Fox officiating. Interment will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Oregon Trails State Cemetery in Evansville with military honors. Mr. Amman was born Sept. 23, 1927, in Los Angeles to Herburt and May (Mulville) Amman. He served as a merchant marine in World War II and in the California Air National Guard in Morocco during the Korean War. He married Vivienne G. Streeter May 7, 1949, in Los Angeles. They later moved to Sheridan. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the San Fernando Food Sales Club and the American Legion. He loved hunting, fishing and camping with his family. He was preceded in death by his wife and two brothers, John Glennon and Jerry Amman. Survivors include three sons, Philip G. of Billings, Thomas E. of Hemet, Calif., and Daniel J. of Sheridan; six daughters, Mary V. Hildebrandt and Rosemarie Dinwiddie, both of Las Vegas, Margaret A. Miller of Sheridan, Suzanne T. Amman of Sunnyvale, Calif., Joanne E. Fitzgerald of Quartz Hill, Calif., and Dorothy K. Amman of Syracuse, N.Y.; two sisters, Betty Manatt of Seal Beach, Calif., and Theresa del Negro of Arcadia, Calif.; a brother, Fred, of North Hollywood, Calif.; 21 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Banner native Margaret E. Harper, 94, of Stevensville, Mont., died Friday, March 22, 2002, at Riverside Health Care Center in Missoula, Mont., of complications from Parkinsons disease. Private services will be at a later date, with interment at Sunnyside Cemetery. Whitesitt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Harper was born Aug. 6, 1907, in Banner to August and Alma Johnson. She married Emmett Harper June 21, 1929. They ranched in the Banner area, and she taught school until they moved to Montana in 1946. They moved to the Bitterroot Valley in 1949 and ranched until their retirement. Mrs. Harper was preceded in death by her husband in 1992; a brother, Bill; and a grandson. Survivors include two daughters, Carol Montelius of Clinton, Mont., and Ellen Fortenberry of Stevensville; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Former Buffalo resident Rick G. Campbell, 45, died Saturday, March 23, 2002, in Miami. Visitation will be 1-10 p.m. Friday and 8-9:30 a.m. Saturday at Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo. Ray W. Robertson, 79, of Sheridan died Saturday, March 23, 2002, at his residence. Cremation has taken place. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Sheridan Elks Cemetery with the Rev. Doug Goodwin officiating. Kane Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Robertson was born Jan. 22, 1923, in Powell to longtime Sheridan residents William and Mary (Urmson) Robertson. He was raised in Sheridan and attended Sheridan schools. He enlisted in the U.S. Army after graduation and served six and a half years in the Pacific and Europe under Gen. Patton. He was a prisoner of war in Germany. He was honorably discharged in November 1945 and returned home. He married Laura Trollan in June 1946. They moved to Fresno, Calif., in 1947. Mr. Robertson attended Fresno Junior College and worked at Getchells GMC Trucks until 1950, when the family returned to Wyoming. He worked with Mrs. Robertsons parents, Joe and Myrtle Trollan, at Joes Place in Leiter. The Robertsons moved back to California in 1953, then returned to Leiter in 1959 to buy Joes Place. The Robertsons bought a ranch in Clearmont in 1966. They sold Joes Place in 1972, then sold the ranch in 1977 and retired. They spent their winters in Arizona until 1980, when they returned to Sheridan to stay. Mr. Robertson enjoyed the outdoors, especially the mountains, hunting, fishing, gardening and bird-watching. He was a lapidary and enjoyed silversmithing. He was a lifetime member of Sheridan Elks 520, American Legion and Big Horn Mountain Polka Club. He was preceded in death by brothers Francis Bud and Earl Gene. Survivors include his wife; a son, Daniel of Olympia, Wash.; a sister, Alice Ketron of Sheridan; and a brother, Gale Smokey of Yakima, Wash. Ralph Emerson DeLapp Jr., 75, of Toledo, Ore., died Sunday, March 17, 2002, of natural causes. He was brother of Donald DeLapp and Dora Lupton, both of Sheridan. No services are planned. Bateman Funeral Home of Newport, Ore., was in charge of cremation. He was born Jan. 1, 1927, in Havre, Mont., to Ralph and Cora DeLapp. He served as a radioman in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a retired electrician, rancher and mill worker. He was preceded in death by his wife, Therese Eckland DeLapp, in February 2001, and by a sister, Hattie DeLapp. Other survivors include two sons, Ralph E. III of Toledo and Charles of Anderson, Calif.; a daughter, Donna Oswald of Los Angeles; another brother, Neil of Kaycee; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Former Sheridan resident Frances Metz Reynolds, 83, of Columbus, Mont., died Friday, March 22, 2002, in Columbus. Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church, the Rev. Joe Keys officiating, with burial in Sheridan Elks Cemetery. Mrs. Reynolds was born in Mannington, W.Va., Sept. 3, 1918. Her family moved to Texas, where she met and married Jim Reynolds. They moved to Wyoming in 1947 with their three children. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Sheridan. She loved her family and grandchildren and enjoyed music, singing, and dancing. Her husband and five brothers and sisters preceded her in death. Survivors include three children, Ben of Sheridan, Donna Lane of Dayton, and Grace of Columbus; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a niece. Memorials may benefit Alzheimers-related funds in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home.
Donald R. Brown, 61, of Ten Sleep died Friday, March 22, 2002, at Sheridan VA Medical Center. Graveside services are 2 p.m. June 1 in Kaycee Cemetery in Kaycee, the Rev. Tom Saur officiating. Visitation is until 7 p.m. today at Adams Funeral Home Chapel, Buffalo. Mr. Brown was born Aug. 17, 1940, in Buffalo to Russell and Effie Stapp Brown. He went to school in Kaycee until he was 12, then moved with his family to California, where he attended high school. After high school he moved back to Kaycee, where he did ranch work until he joined the Army in 1959. He served in Germany and was discharged in 1962. He then returned to Kaycee, where he worked for his sister and her husband on the ranch. He married JoAnne Anderson on July 14, 1965, in Fort Collins, Colo. They lived in Sheridan, where he worked as a ranch hand. They later moved to Laramie, where he worked for the city. He re-enlisted in the Army in 1966 and served in Vietnam. He was divorced in 1968 and was discharged in 1969. He then moved to California, where he was a security guard for Wells Fargo until 1983, when he moved to Ten Sleep to live near his sister. Survivors include a son, James Brown of Lead, S.D.; a sister, Beverly Firnekas of Ten Sleep; two grandchildren of Ten Sleep; and a niece of Worland. Memorials may benefit Ten Sleep Library in care of Adams Funeral Home.
Patricia Pat Martinson, 75, of Casper died Thursday, March 21, 2002, at Central Wyoming Hospice Home. Cremation has taken place and services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Casper with Chaplain Ellis Kaster from the Wyoming Medical Center officiating. A brief gathering will follow at Memorial Chapel. Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Sherry Terry of Sheridan; and two sons, Butch Martinson of Glenrock and Jim Martinson of Puyallup, Wash. He was the son of Nathan Taylor and Rhonda Reed of New Bedford,
Mass. Survivors include his parents; a brother, Jeffrey Arsenault
of New Bedford; four additional grandparents, Eldina Taylor of
Fall River, Mass., and Deb Reed, Lee Meisig and Derek Reed, all
of New Bedford; three great-grandparents, Raymond and Lucy
Bessette of New Bedford and Donna Whaley of Sheridan; and
numerous aunts and uncles, including Joe and Jan Grimshaw of Fall
River, originally of Sheridan. A great-grandfather, Frederick
Whaley of Sheridan, preceded him in death.

Sharon K. Race, 52, of Parkman died Monday, March 18, 2002, at her residence. Cremation and services have taken place with arrangements by Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Race was born June 2, 1949, to Orval and Mabel (Jackson) Denbo in Holyoke, Colo., and was confirmed in the First Christian Church there. She married Ray E. Race on Dec. 5, 1969, in Wray, Colo., where their two sons were born. The couple moved to Parkman 24 years ago, where they raised their sons. She was a member of Sheridan County Cattlewomen, the Girl Scouts, Dayton Benefit Club, and First Christian Church. She was a licensed cosmetologist, and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, gardening, bird-watching, cooking, and caring for others. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Edwin Race of Holyoke and Eric Race of Gillette; three grandchildren; her parents of Holyoke; a sister, Diane Crave of Haxtun, Colo.; and two brothers Gary Denbo of Lamar, Neb., and Dan Denbo of Holyoke. Former Sheridan resident Rosalie H. Redies, 91, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at her home in Sunbridge Golden Age Care and Rehabilitation in Clovis, N.M. Graveside services will be at Mountview Cemetery in Billings at 10 a.m. Tuesday. She was born Aug. 8, 1910, in Sundance to Adrian and Marie Hewes and grew up on the ranch her great-grandparents homesteaded. Mrs. Redies attended the former Black Hills Teachers College in Spearfish, S.D., and graduated from the University of Wyoming with a degree in home economics. She then worked for the Brown Palace Hotel in Denver. She married Walter H. Redies on May 7, 1937. They raised purebred Hereford cattle for several years and resided in northeastern Colorado, Sheridan, and Billings. She loved her family, nature and animals. She was preceded in death by a brother, Julius Hewes, and her husband in 1989. Survivors include two daughters, Janet L. Redies of Billings and Judy Uerlin of Clovis. Memorials may be made to any local humane society or the Montana Brain Injury Association.
Larry D. Brennan, 67, of Sheridan died Monday, March 18, 2002, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Rosary services will be 7 p.m. today at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Holy Name Catholic Church with Monsignor Eugene Sullivan officiating. Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mr. Brennan was born Dec. 24, 1934, to Daniel and Alma (Day) Brennan in Gillette. Following graduation from high school, he entered the U.S. Air Force in 1953 and served until his honorable discharge in 1957. On June 6, 1959, he married Carolyn Stockhouse in Sheridan, and they have resided here since then, raising five children. Mr. Brennan enjoyed hunting, fishing, coaching Little League baseball, gardening, and especially watching the Wyoming Cowboys football and basketball games and the Denver Broncos. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Michael Brennan, and a son, Tom Brennan. He is survived by four daughters, Mary Kay Legerski and Lauri Wood, both of Sheridan, Gayle Shaffer of Gillette, and Sharon Reyes of Greenville, Texas; three sons, Matthew Brennan of Laurel, Mont., Terry Brennan of Konawa, Okla., and Larry Brennan of Maud, Okla.; two sisters, Pattie Zimmerman of Cheyenne and Mary Lou Kober of Sheridan; four brothers, James Brennan and Dennis Brennan, both of Sheridan, Jerry Brennan of Ogden, Utah, and Robert Brennan of Portland, Ore; 21 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Anna Belle Weltner, 79, of Sheridan died Saturday, March 16, 2002, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Cremation has taken place, and no services are planned. Mrs. Weltner was born January 13, 1923 on Murphy Gulch to Elmer and Mary (Buckley) Connolly. She grew up on Piney Creek and attended the Stone School. She was a nurses aide for many years at Reynolds Nursing Home, Sheridan Manor and Memorial Hospital. She married Jean Weltner in Sheridan on April 14, 1948. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, knitting, crocheting and being with her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband; one son, John Weltner of Albany, Ga.; two daughters, Barbara Stanich of Farmington, N.M., and Mary Johnston of Dayton; four brothers, Tom, Dale, Pat and Bob Connolly, all of Sheridan; four sisters, Esther West, Marietta Bickel and Florence Dahlin, all of Sheridan, and Evelyn Sullivan of Casper; 10 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Dennis M. Herman Johnson, 57, of Sheridan died Friday, March 15, 2002, at his residence. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. today at Kane Funeral Home with Pastor Tony Forman officiating. Mr. Johnson was born March 31, 1944, to Archie and June (Hastings) Johnson in Williston, N.D. Following graduation from high school in 1963, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served until 1967, when he was honorably discharged. He moved to Sheridan in 1994, and worked for Cowboy Contractors since then. He loved waterskiing, camping, fishing, working with leather, making cooking utensils for camping, reading and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed rodeos and making quilts. He was preceded in death by his father in 1980; his stepfather, Doyle Copple, in 1990; his sister, Karen Johnson, in 1998; and his stepsister, Christy Horsley, in 2000. He is survived by his mother, June Copple; four children, Kimberly Lovewell of Sedalia, Mo., Jeff Johnson of Jamestown, Mo., Casey Johnson, and Katelyn Johnson of Douglas; eight grandchildren; four sisters, Darlene DeeJay Voogd, Mary Ann Bonnet, and Melinda Wilkerson, all of Sheridan, and Tammy Lee Reimers of Springhill, Fla.; and two stepsisters, Sally Ann Copple of Waukegan, Ill., and Doylene Gage of Sturgis, S.D. James D. Norberg, 66, of Sheridan died Sunday, March 17, 2002, in Sheridan VA Medical Center. Memorial services will be later from Grace Episcopal Church, St. George, Utah, with Pastor Mary Allen officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Norberg was born March 25, 1935, in Pepin Township, Wis., to Raymond and Merle (Hulverson) Norberg. The family came to Wyoming when he was a young child. He grew up and graduated from high school in Evanston. After high school, he served in the U.S. Navy. He married his wife, Delores, in 1961 in Craig, Colo. She preceded him in death. He lived in Casper, where he worked for a trucking company. He moved to St. George, where he cooked at the Hilton Hotel until coming to Sheridan in 1998. He enjoyed reading and making things with his hands. He is survived by his sister, Shirley Chastain of Santa Ana, Calif., and one brother, Dale Norberg of Green River.

Former Sheridan railroad worker Richard Hal Tormey, 71, of Worden, Mont., died Thursday, March 14, 2002, at St. Vincents Hospital in Billings of cancer. Memorial services are 3 p.m. today at the Worden Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall. Mr. Tormey was born Sept. 21, 1930, in Colorado to Vernan (Boon) and Virgie Tormey. He grew up in Alt, Colo. In 1954 he moved to Moorcroft, where he met his wife, Vera Goetringer. He retired after 32 years with C.B.&Q. Railroad later Burlington Northern in Sheridan. He enjoyed hunting, playing pool, and spending time with his grandchildren and their children. Most of all he loved to camp and fish in the Big Horn Mountains surrounded by loving friends. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy Crusch; a son, Roger Tormey; and his beloved companion, Arleda Marcher. Survivors include two sisters, Ray Wallings of Burns and Majel Anderson of Casper; a brother, Delbert Tormey of Midland, Texas; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Worden VFW Auxiliary or charity of choice.

Former Sheridan business and civic leader Frank Poulsen, 79, Sun City, Ariz., died Wednesday March 6, 2002, in Sun City. He was born Dec. 28, 1922, in Copenhagen, Denmark, to Carl and Ingaborg (Williamson) Poulsen. He came to the United States at age 16. While in New York, the Nazis invaded Denmark and he was unable to return. He joined the Merchant Marine at age 17 and served in the South Pacific and Atlantic as a ship captain. He became a U.S. citizen after World War II. He married Jacqueline Scott in June 1941. After the service, they lived a short while in California before moving to Billings. In 1957 they moved to Sheridan, where he owned and operated Sheridan Laundry until retiring to Sun City. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Pat Sampson, Sheridan; three sons, Steve of Sheridan, Ralph of Steamboat Springs, Colo., and Greg of San Jose, Calif.; and 10 grandchildren. Cremation has occurred and a family service will be in Sheridan later this year.

Elsie Maycock Powell, 103, formerly of Sheridan, died Saturday, March 9, 2002, at Baptist Hospital East in Louisville, Ky. Visitation is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday followed immediately by funeral services at Mount Pisgah Cemetery Shelter in Gillette, the Rev. Terral Bearden of Sheridan officiating. Mrs. Powell was born in Gering, Neb., on Jan. 26, 1899. Her family came to Wyoming by covered wagon and ranched north of Gillette. She was one of four graduates from Gillette High School in 1919. She worked as the only woman teller in Stockmens Bank in Gillette for 17 years and married her fellow worker Ben Powell. She and her family moved in 1943 to Sheridan, where they were active in First Baptist Church and founding members of Calvary Baptist Church. Later she and her husband served as missionaries to two country churches in Ranchester and Big Goose. She and her husband were married for 62 years before his death in 1985. She moved to Louisville that year and was active in Baptist Tabernacle Church. Survivors are a daughter, Martha C. of Louisville; a son, Benjamin of Los Angeles; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Arrangements are with Wilson Funeral Home.
Walter Otto Blankenburg, 68, died Tuesday, March 12, 2002, at his Sheridan home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Kane Funeral Home with Nyna Fitzgerald officiating. As a younger man, he played football, hunted, fished, skied, and enjoyed fine cars. He worked for Western Electric for many years, and traveled the countryside installing telephone equipment. In later years, he enjoyed bingo, pull tabs, and his family. He was preceded in death by his younger brother Edward in 1982. William E. Blanchard, 79, died Friday, March 8, 2002, at the Veterans Home of Buffalo after a lengthy illness. Private family interment will be in Massachusetts. He was born March 11, 1922, in Amesbury, Mass., to Clarance and Willa Carlton Blanchard. He grew up in Amesbury, graduating from Amesbury High School in 1940. He joined the U.S. Army in 1942 and served with the 10th Mountain Division in the Aleutians and in the Italian Alps, where he received a Bronze Star. After the war, he met Mary English while working in the AMC Hut System of the White Mountains of New Hampshire. They married in June 1948 and resided in Rowley, Mass. Mr. Blanchard worked as a heavy-equipment operator and later worked for the Rowley Municipal Light Co. as a lineman. After a divorce he moved to Thermopolis, where he worked on a ranch and in the oil fields. An industrial injury forced him to retire in 1980, and he spent the remainder of his life with friends at the Veterans Home of Wyoming. He enjoyed skiing, fishing, hiking and the mountains. He is survived by three sons, Bruce Blanchard of Merrimac, Mass., Don Blanchard of Amesbury, and Dana Blanchard of Townsend, Mass.; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Carlton Blanchard. Friends may donate to the Veterans Home of Wyoming in care of Adams Funeral Home.

Jack LeRoy Wagoner Watkins, 56, of
Sheridan died Saturday, March 9, 2002, from complications
following surgery.
Mr. Watkins was born April 18, 1945, to Jack and Georgia (Hunt)
Watkins in Joplin, Mo. He attended Westview Elementary and Seneca
High School in Missouri, and graduated from the OFallon,
Ill., High School. He attended Crowder College in Neosho, Mo.,
until he entered the U.S. Air Force in 1965. He served in
Vietnam, and was honorably discharged in 1969. He married Della
Keranen on Feb. 7, 1972, in Coldwater, Mich. He most recently
worked for Sheridan Wal-Mart as an assistant manager. He started
playing music at age 12, and began playing professionally at age
14. He was a lead singer, drummer, and bass guitarist in country
and Western bands, both local and nationwide, and was leader of
the Nashville Straights Band. He also enjoyed camping, fishing,
bowling, golf, darts, and was an avid fan of the Kansas City
Chiefs. He belonged to Sheridan American Legion Post 7, and
served as its former commander and color guard member. He was a
member of Mountain View Fellowship Baptist Church in Sheridan. He
was preceded in death by his father of Galena, Kan., and his
stepfather, Don G. Stark of Neosho. Survivors include his wife;
two sons, Rusty Springsteen and Bobby Watkins; his daughter,
Shannon Tompkins; five grandchildren; two brothers, Rodney Stark
of Bella Vista, Ark., and Ronald Stark of San Diego; his mother,
Georgia Stark of Neosho; several nieces and nephews; and many
aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services are 2 p.m. today at
Kane Funeral Home with Ronald Stark officiating. Interment will
follow in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with military honors and

Shirley Songer, 64, died Friday, March 8, 2002, at her Sheridan home. She was born May 18, 1937, in Watford City, N.D., to Johnnie and Sylvia (Hetland) Skaar. The family came to Sheridan when she was young. She attended schools in Sheridan and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1955. She worked at the telephone company until going to work as a legal secretary for Redle, Yonkee & Arney attorneys. She married Gene Songer in Sheridan. She worked for the county court in the late 1980s until she retired. She was a musician, songwriter and performed with her sisters. Shirley was a speaker for Christian Womens Club, a member of Women Aglow and performed with Sweet Adelines singing group in Carnegie Hall. She belonged to Trinity Lutheran Church, where she was a Stephens minister, Bethel Bible teacher, helped form the contemporary Praise & Worship service and formed the Cherub Choir for youth. Survivors include her husband; son Mike Songer of Billings; daughters Kari Henrichs of Elk Creek, Neb., and Jayleen Florian of Gill, Colo.; sisters Joanne Larsen, Dee Pelesky and Lorri Wilson, all of Sheridan; eight grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. A celebration of life will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Revs. Ronald Nelson and Wilbur Holz officiating. Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Former Sheridan resident Susie Skurok Uroszek, 93, died Friday, March 8, 2002, at Amie Holt Care Center in Buffalo. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Johns Catholic Church in Buffalo with Father Charles Taylor officiating. A rosary will precede the Mass. Graveside services are 1 p.m. Tuesday in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mrs. Uroszek was born June 27, 1908, in Istebna, Poland, to Tom and Mary Washut Skurok. She grew up and attended school in Poland. Her family moved to America when she was 2 years old, but she remained in Poland with her grandparents until she was 16. She then moved to the United States to rejoin her family in Kooi, a mining town between Sheridan and Ranchester. She worked for the IXL Ranch and married George Uroszek in 1928 in Kleenburn. They resided in Kleenburn and later moved to Sheridan, where she worked at the Sheridan Inn for 10 years and later for the Sheridan Center and Golden Steer restaurants. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1979; six brothers, Joe, Johnny, Mike, Rudy, Tommy and Andy Skurok; two stepchildren, George Uroszek Jr. and Albena Bocek; and two grandsons. She continued living in Sheridan until 1998, when she moved to Buffalo to live with her daughter. In 1999 she moved to Amie Holt Care Center. She loved to crochet, garden and play pinochle. Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Nelson of Buffalo; two sisters, Alma Christensen and Mary Neilsen, both of Buffalo; 11 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren. Georgetown, Md., formerly of Sheridan, died Thursday, March 7,
2002, at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. John's United
Methodist Church in Georgetown. Mrs. Howell was born in Egypt to
the late Stephen Anthony and Persephone Yerakis Spiteri. Along
with her husband, she was involved for the past 40 years in the
ministry, most recently with the Georgetown U.M. Circuit serving
St. John's, Bethesda and Providence Methodist Churches and taught
childrens Sunday school throughout the past 40 years. She
and her husband served in Lakeland, Fla., where they were
houseparents for the Florida U.M. Childrens Home and served
on the United Methodist circuits in Sheridan and in Albany, N.Y.
She was a member of the Georgetown Historical Society and the
Order of the Eastern Star in East New Market, Md. She also worked
from home as a secretary and supply clerk for the Veterans
Administration in Sheridan. Survivors include her husband, the
Rev. Robert D. Howell; two children, Catherine Estoria
Howell-Keyt of San Antonio, and Paul Anthony Howell of Aurora,
Colo.; two sisters, Stella Spiteri of Athens, Greece, and Stella
Stamatiadi of Long Island, N.Y.; and five grandchildren. The Rev.

Pat Stanley Lamach, 84, of Sheridan died Friday,
March 1, 2002, at his residence. A memorial service will be 2
p.m. Monday at the Sheridan VA Medical Center Chapel with
Chaplain Everett Wright officiating. Interment will be in
Sheridan Municipal Cemetery at a later date. Kane Funeral Home
handled the arrangements. Mr. Lamach was born Jan. 20, 1918, to
John and Mary (Prazda) Lamach in Big Timber, Mont. He married his
wife, Mabel, Aug. 6, 1968, in Waco, Texas. He did volunteer work
at the Sheridan VAMC and was treasurer for the Cooties. He served
as a top turret gunner on a B-17 airplane during World War II and
flew 50 missions out of a base in Africa during the war.
He enjoyed gardening and loved to dance. He was preceded in death
by his wife, 10 brothers and a sister. Survivors include three
children, Mary Talbert of Freeport, Texas, Frances Wright of
Angleton, Texas, and Milly Kramer of Sheridan; two sisters,
Margaret Drivdahl of Big Timber and Laura Steele of Corvallis,
Mont.; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one
great-great-grandchild.

Anna Pilch, 84, lifelong Sheridan County resident, died Saturday, March 2, 2002. Vigil service will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral liturgy will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Name Catholic Church with Father Robert Fox officiating. Interment will be in the Elks Section of Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mrs. Pilch was born Nov. 1, 1917, in Acme to Joseph and Mary (Mahalek) Seul. She ranched for 62 years on Lower Prairie Dog Road. Her husband, Joe S. Pilch, preceded her in death in 1984. Survivors include two sons, Joe and Ed; a daughter, Marilyn Wolter; two sisters, Mary Schutte and Helen Marquardt; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Maxine Burtis, 77, of Sheridan died Sunday, March 3, 2002, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Kane Funeral Home with Pastor Arthur Maendl officiating. Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mrs. Burtis was born Oct. 27, 1924, to Oath and Mabel (Devlin) Beard in Champion, Neb. She married Donald Burtis in 1947. They moved to Sheridan in 1958 from Imperial, Neb. She was involved in church activities, the 4-H and Cub Scouts and enjoyed doing crafts. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Clifford, Donnie and Kenneth, and a sister, Darlene. Survivors include her husband, of Sheridan; three sons, Donald Wayne, Larry and Mark, all of Sheridan; and four daughters, Beverly Gorzalka of Sheridan, Arlis Dona of Jackson, Carol Jandreau of Gillette and Nancy Wollenburg of Billings; two brothers, Max Beard (her twin) of Imperial, and Vincent Beard of Holyoke, Colo.; three sisters, Iris Williams of Scottsbluff, Neb., Thelma Gibbs of Holdrege, Neb., and Lois Bussell of Loveland, Colo.; and 13 grandchildren. Former Sheridan area resident William Bill Anderson, 67, of Lake City, Minn., died Jan. 28, 2002, after falling through the ice while fishing at Alma, Wis. Funeral services were Feb. 1 in Lake City. Mr. Anderson was born Nov. 25, 1934, in Lake City to Francis and Elizabeth (Lutz) Anderson. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and was part of the 1st Medical Battalion attached to the First Marine Division. He married Toni Rettler June 15, 1957, in Lake City. He worked for funeral homes and later operated his own funeral home until 1992 when he went to work for a hardware store. He and his wife spent the past 30 years coming to the Big Horn Mountains during the summer and were campground hosts at Dead Swede Campground in the Bighorn National Forest from 1987 until 1995, and he became a seasonal employee for the Forest Service working out of the Woodrock Ranger Station. He was 1999 recipient of the Chiefs National Volunteer Award for the Forest Service. He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister. Survivors include his wife; a son, William Jr. of Rochester, Minn.; two daughters, Kathleen Nemec of Boscobel, Wis., and Elizabeth Anderson of Eau Claire, Wis.; two sisters, Mary Agnes Nibbe of Lake City and Betty Haglund of Pepin, Wis.; a brother, Jim of Carmel, Ind.; and four grandchildren.

Rose T. Favero, 78, of Sheridan died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, at her residence. Rosary will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Favero was born Nov. 24, 1923, in Dietz 8 to Leopold and Rose (Krzic) Podgornik. She married Alex Favero June 1, 1947, in Hardin, Mont., after graduating from high school. She worked as a cosmetologist for many years. She enjoyed gardening and handwork. She was preceded in death by her husband and four brothers, Louis Louie, Leo, Tony and Edward. Survivors include five nieces, five nephews and many great-nieces and great-nephews. Funeral services for former Sheridan resident Ronald C. Wood, 65, of Gillette, will be 3 p.m. today at Wilson Funeral Home in Gillette with Pastor Rob Sarrow officiating. A second service, in Sheridan, will be 2 p.m. Monday at Kane Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Elks Cemetery. Mr. Wood died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002, in the Campbell County Memorial Hospital. He was born Dec. 1, 1936, in Casper to Andrew and Bertha (Thayer) Wood. The family moved to Sheridan when he was 6 years old, and he was a 1955 graduate of Sheridan High School. He served three years with the United States Army in Germany, then returned to Sheridan where he was a truck driver before moving to Seattle. He later returned to Wyoming, and he and his wife, Mary Etta, started their own trucking business in Upton, moving it to Gillette in 1973. Survivors include his wife, of Gillette; two daughters, Patricia R. Murphy of North Carolina and Tracy A. Mengel of Virginia; two brothers; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
