Leonard Schipper

Former Sheridan resident Leonard G. Schipper, 62, of Fargo, N.D., died Saturday, March 29, 2003, in Fairbury, N.D. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Faith Lutheran Church in Fairbury with Pastor Richard Larson officiating. Burial will be in Fairbury Cemetery. Arrangements are with Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home of Fairbury. Mr. Schipper was born Dec. 7, 1940, in Fairbury to Herman E. Schipper and Ollie F. DeBoer. He served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam and lived in Sheridan for a time while he worked for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad as manager of operating practices. Survivors include his wife, Cara of Fargo; two sons, Curt of Winslow, Ariz., and Chad of Prairie Village, Kan.; a daughter, Kim Brink of Quincy, Ill.; a brother, Delven of Fairbury; a sister, Velda Wagner of Fairbury; and four grandchildren.

Albertina Brown

Albertina M. Brown, 88, of Sheridan died Thursday, March 27, 2003, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Cremation has taken place. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at Kane Funeral Home. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Stolcis officiating. Inurnment of cremains will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mrs. Brown was born Sept. 9, 1914, in Switzerland. She emigrated to the United States in 1958 and went to Montana, where she worked on ranches in the Lewistown, Roundup and Melstone areas. She moved to Wyoming, where she met and married Samuel J. Brown. They were married 20 years. He preceded her in death. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Alois Machler, and two sisters, Elizabeth Tchudy and Josefina Voegely. Survivors include two brothers, Karl and Benedikt Machler, and a sister, Rosa Kennel, all of Switzerland; and many nieces and nephews.

Tanya Herring

Tanya M. Herring, 30, of Sheridan died Wednesday, March 26, 2003, in Deaconess Hospital in Billings of natural causes. A memorial celebrating her life will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Goodwin officiating.

John Partington

John B. Partington, 79, of Sheridan died Friday, March 28, 2003, at Sheridan VA Medical Center. Services are pending with Kane Funeral Home.

Donald Rodell

Donald Steve Rodell, 70, of Sheridan died Thursday, March 27, 2003, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Monday in St. Peter's Episcopal Church with the Rev. David Duprey officiating. Burial of cremains will be in Highland Cemetery in Casper at a later date. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Rodell was born Nov. 29, 1932, in Alliance, Neb., to Steve and Frances (Ogle) Rodell. He grew up in Alliance and graduated from high school there. He was a 1964 graduate of the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts and was a commercial artist. He began his career doing animal illustrations for international publications, magazines, book publishers, newspapers, children's works and advertising agencies. He was the first artist to show paintings in Yellowstone National Park, after being commissioned to depict the eight major wild animals there in “The Yellowstone Series.” He was one of only eight North American artists invited to participate in the World Wildlife Congress in Johannesburg, South Africa, and his wildlife paintings were exhibited in the National Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City and at America's Bicentennial Show in Washington, D.C. He was the American Eagle Foundation's Artist of the Year in 2000. His works also are in many private and corporate collections including the Wildlife World Museum, Grand Teton National Park Visitor's Center and the National History Museum in Las Vegas. Mr. Rodell was preceded in death by two brothers and his first wife. Survivors include his wife, Joyce; two sons, Mike of Casper and Greg of Bailey, Colo.; two stepdaughters, Angie Gilbert of Story and Cynthia Puchek of Dillon, Colo.; and two step-great-grandchildren. Elizabeth Barina

Elizabeth Barbara “Betty” Barina, 82, of Sheridan died Tuesday, March 25, 2003, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at Kane Funeral Home. Mass of the Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Holy Name Catholic Church with the Rev. Ron Stolcis officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Miss Barina was born Aug. 22, 1920, in Monarch to Joseph and Anna (Fashung) Barina. She attended Holy Name School in Sheridan and was a 1937 graduate of Sheridan High School. She attended the Sisters of Divine Providence School of Nursing in Bellingham, Wash., and the Columbus Hospital School of Nursing in Great Falls, Mont. She also trained in Chicago and at the Northwest Institute of Technology in Minneapolis to become a registered laboratory and X-ray technician. She began her medical career in Sheridan in 1946 at the old Sheridan County Memorial Hospital and later worked for Drs. H.J. Aldrich and James Sampson. She was office nurse and technician for Dr. Peter M. Schunk for 30 years, then became school nurse at the Wyoming Girls School until retiring in 1987. She was a lifelong member of Holy Name Catholic Church and directed the preschool program for 13 years. She enjoyed travel, reading, rose gardening and fly-fishing and loved the mountains. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Meyer and Anna Jackson. Survivors include a brother, Paul of Santa Paula, Calif.; her good friend, Virginia Cooper of Sheridan; two nieces; a nephew; and several grandnieces and grandnephews. Sister Noreen Kerscher

Former Sheridan resident Sister Noreen Kerscher, 88, a Sister of Charity of Leavenworth, died Sunday, March 23, 2003, in Ross Hall, Mother House, Leavenworth, Kan. A vigil will be 7 p.m. Wednesday in Ross Chapel of the Sisters of Charity Mother House in Leavenworth. Friends may call there after 4 p.m. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Ross Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery on the Mother House grounds. Arrangements are with Belden-Sexton-Sumpter Chapels. Rose Catherine Kerscher was born April 26, 1914, in Primrose, Neb., to John and Frances Meister Kerscher. She graduated from St. Joseph School in Helena, Mont., and Billings High School. She entered the religious community of the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Aug. 30, 1932, and made her profession of vows June 17, 1934, as Sister Noreen. She received a bachelor of science in education from St. Mary College in Leavenworth and additional education in St. Louis and Aurora, Colo. She missioned in schools in Kansas, Montana, Colorado, Illinois and at Holy Name School in Sheridan. She was assigned to St. Mary's Hospital & Medical Center in Grand Junction, Colo., after her teaching career. She returned to the Mother House in 1990 and retired to Ross Hall in February 2000. She was preceded in death by seven siblings. Survivors include nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Retirement Fund, 4200 S. Robert Hoblit

Robert David Hoblit, 60, of Portland, Ore., died Thursday, March 13, 2003, in Portland. He was brother of Alva Lee Hoblit of Sheridan. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday in Willow Grove Cemetery in Buffalo with Pastor Mike Carlton officiating. Arrangements are with Adams Funeral Home. Mr. Hoblit was born Feb. 15, 1943, in Buffalo to David and Alice Hoblit. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1961 after high school. He moved to Portland following his discharge from the Navy. Survivors include his mother of Douglas; another brother, Dale Christianson of Casper; and a sister, Cindy Grinstead of Douglas.

Ralph Hults

Sheridan County native Ralph M. Hults, 93, of Lodge Grass, Mont., died Thursday, March 20, 2003. Cremation has taken place, and no services are planned at this time. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Hults was born Oct. 22, 1909, in Sheridan County to Edgar F. and Jessie (Irwin) Hults. He attended school in Sheridan. He was co-owner with a brother of Hults Bros. Ranch in Lodge Grass. He played softball with the Decker league and loved animals. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gerald and an infant brother; and two sisters, Roberta McDaniel and Margaret Shreve.

 

Cynthia Harrod

Cynthia M. Harrod, 90, died Tuesday, March 18, 2003, in Westview Health Care Center in Sheridan. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel at Mount Pisgah Cemetery in Gillette with Pastor Douglas Goodwin of Sheridan officiating. Burial will be in Mount Pisgah Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until service time Tuesday in the Mount Pisgah Chapel. Kane Funeral Home of Sheridan is handling arrangements. Mrs. Harrod was born July 15, 1912, at the family homestead at Rockypoint to Oliver and Cora (Minten) Hemenway. She attended elementary school at Rockypoint and was a 1928 graduate of Campbell County High School. She received normal teacher training and taught for several years. She married Glenn Harrod May 11, 1935, in Sheridan. They ranched in the Weston area north of Gillette for more than 40 years. Mrs. Harrod enjoyed raising her family, gardening, cooking, reading, sewing and her church. She became involved in First Christian Church after moving to Sheridan in 1976. She had been a resident of Westview Health Care Center since May 2001. She was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister. Survivors include her husband of Sheridan; two daughters, Normalee Materi of Upton and Connie Cooper of Denver; two sons, Joe of Worland and Vic of Weston; a sister, Darlene Hart of Salmon Arm, British Columbia, Canada; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Robert Rivers

Robert M. "Bobby" Rivers, 57, of Sheridan died Tuesday, March 18, 2003, in St. Vincent’s Hospital in Billings. Funeral services will be 3:30 p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church. A dinner will follow at Eagles Lodge 186 at Fifth and Main streets. Arrangements are with the family. Mr. Rivers was born Roberto Molina Rivera May 24, 1945, in Tucson, Ariz., to Manuel and Helen Molina Rivera. He was a 1964 graduate of Tucson High School, 23rd in a class of more than 600 students. He received many scholarship offers but rejected them to pursue a career in music. He traveled professionally with his own band for more than 18 years. He settled in Sheridan and played music with the Bobby Rivers Band and later with Boogie Bound. He owned and operated Lazy River Pawn for the past 11 years with his wife, Kay. His interests included building race cars, restoring Model A Fords and fishing for catfish on the Little Big Horn River. He enjoyed helping people. He married Kay Seipp Oct. 27, 1974, in Watertown, S.D. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ralph. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Sonny and Diego; three stepchildren, Cindy, Christy and David; and eight grandchildren. Cynthia M. Harrod, 90, of Sheridan died Tuesday, March 18, 2003, in Westview Health Care Center. Joseph Rulli

Sheridan-native Joseph Francis Rulli, 65, of Mesa, Ariz., died Monday, March 10, 2003. Memorial services were March 14 in St. Anthony on the Desert Episcopal Church in Scottsdale, Ariz. Cremation has taken place, and Mr. Rulli's ashes will be scattered later in the Big Horn Mountains. Mr. Rulli was born Sept. 18, 1937, in Sheridan to Joseph and Peggy (George) Rulli. He was a 1955 graduate of Sheridan High School and a 1962 graduate of the University of Wyoming with Bachelor of Arts degrees in music and education. He received a Master of Arts degree in music education in 1971. He was a music educator in Wyoming for 33 years and taught instrumental and vocal music at UW and in Gillette, Buffalo, Powell and Casper before retiring in 1995. He was a member of Music Educators National Conference, Wyoming Music Educators Association, National Association for Jazz Education, National Education Association, Wyoming Education Association and Natrona County Education Association. He was named Wyoming Outstanding Music Educator in 1994. He also belonged to Casper Rotary Club, Casper Civic Chorale, Wyoming Flycasters, Casper Country Club and St. Anthony on the Desert Episcopal Church. Survivors include his wife, Sheila, of Mesa; his mother of Sheridan; a son, Richard; a daughter, Dershie; a sister, Tonia Burnette, of Riverton; a brother, Dan, of Washington, D.C.; and four grandchildren. Memorials may be made to St. Anthony on the Desert Episcopal Church, 12990 E. Shea Blvd., Scottsdale, AZ 85259, or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Henry Maser Jr.

Henry Maser Jr., 67, of Buffalo died Monday, March 17, 2003, at the Sheridan VA Medical Center. He was brother of Sharrell Boyd of Sheridan. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses Church in Buffalo with Ray Cox officiating. Visitation will be 1-10 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. until noon Saturday at Adams Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Maser was born June 12, 1935, in Lincoln, Neb., to Henry and Ethel Maser. The family moved to Greybull when he was 10 years old. He served with the Marine Corps during the Korean War. He returned to Greybull after Korea and worked in construction. He married Janet Moberly in the late 1950s. They lived in Greybull before moving to Lincoln. Mr. Maser moved to Talent, Ore., in 1981. He was a contract painter until ill health forced his retirement in 1990. He moved to Casper, then to Buffalo in 1991, where he lived in the Veterans' Home. He had lived in the nursing unit at the Sheridan VA for three months. He enjoyed playing baseball and was an avid sports fan. He was a member of the Jehovah's Witness Church. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael. Other survivors include two nieces, an uncle and two aunts.

Mitchell H. Combs

Mitchell H. Combs, 79, of Ranchester died Monday, March 17, 2003, at Westview Health Care Center. Funeral services with military honors will be in Hazard, Ky. Kane Funeral Home handled local arrangements. Mitchell was born Nov. 5, 1923, in Happy, Ky., to Robert and Icy (Sieber) Combs. After graduation from high school, he entered the U.S. Army and served from 1943 to 1946. He was a World War II combat veteran. Following military service, he was employed as a foundry worker. He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Janice DuPree of Kripton, Ky.; a brother, Sam Johnson of Apache Junction, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.

Grace Cooley

DAYTON — Grace Cooley, 89, of Dayton died Tuesday, March 11, 2003, in Sheridan Manor. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Dayton Cemetery with Pastor Robert Logan officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Cooley was born Nov. 2, 1913, in Dewey, Okla., to Grant and Viola (Graham) Kepp. She grew up in Oklahoma and in Lamar, Colo., where she graduated from high school. She married Wilbur Cooley Sept. 3, 1931, in Lamar. They moved to Dayton in 1932. She was a member of the Dayton Benefit Club since 1934. The family traveled while Mr. Cooley worked on construction sites until they retired. Mrs. Cooley enjoyed crocheting rugs, embroidering and sewing and made quilts for family members. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1991; a son, Robert; a brother, Ralph; and a sister, Viola Mae. Survivors include two sons, Philip of Sheridan and Russel of Dayton; a daughter, Melvina Colin of Dayton; a brother; three sisters; 11 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Robert Lackman

Robert “Bobby” Lackman, 61, of Sheridan died Wednesday, March 12, 2003, at his residence due to complications from diabetes. Cremation has taken place, and there will be no services at Mr. Lackman's request. Kane Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Mr. Lackman was born Jan. 11, 1942, in Sheridan to Alex and Helen (Aksamit) Lackman. He grew up in Sheridan and graduated from Sheridan High School. He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1962 and was honorably discharged in 1966. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time in the Big Horn Mountains. Survivors include his mother and one brother, Jerry, both of Sheridan; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Andy Twite

Andy Twite, 28, of Sheridan died Tuesday, March 11, 2003, of natural causes at the home of his parents in Sheridan. Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be at a later date. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Twite was born Nov. 11, 1974, in Sheridan to Patrick James and Mary Ann (Shumaker) Twite. He attended Coffeen School. The family moved to Aloha, Ore., when he was 13, and he was a 1993 graduate of Aloha High School. He returned to Sheridan in 1997 and was assistant manager of Domino's Pizza at the time of his death. He enjoyed camping, the water and his music. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, an uncle and one aunt. Survivors include his parents of Sheridan; two grandparents, Whitey and Margie Twite of Sheridan; four uncles; five aunts; and numerous cousins.

Gladys Haug

Former Sheridan resident Gladys Elizabeth Heppner Haug, 90, of Orem, Utah, died Thursday, March 6, 2003, in Utah. Graveside services will be noon Saturday in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Haug was born Feb. 25, 1913, in Edgemont, S.D., to Frank and Lavina Ann (Calkins) Heppner. The family moved to Sheridan when she was 3 years old. She was a 1931 graduate of Sheridan High School with the highest grade point average in her class, which earned her a four-year lifetime scholarship to the University of Wyoming. She married Paul Edward Haug in 1938. They lived on a small farm west of Sheridan, and she grew gladioli, producing more than 3,000 spikes of flowers a season. Mr. Haug died in 1969. She moved to Delta, Colo., in 1971 and worked for Holly Sugar Corp. for 37 years until she retired. She had recently moved to Orem to be near family. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her sisters. Survivors include two nephews, a niece and a cousin.

Constantine Booras

Sheridan native Constantine G. “Gus” Booras, 84, of Billings died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, in Billings. A memorial service was March 3 at St. Nicholas Church in Billings. An Orthodox funeral service was 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Nicholas under direction of Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary of Billings. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens with military honors. Mr. Booras was born Jan. 19, 1919, in Sheridan to Anastasia and George Booras. He was a graduate of Sheridan High School. He attended the University of Colorado at Boulder two years and played football with Whizzer White. He returned home to help in the family grocery business while continuing his business education. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in May 1942 and served with the 17th Infantry as a paratrooper. He saw action in France and rose to the rank of captain. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He married Ann Pilch in August 1942 in Little Rock, Ark. He returned to Sheridan after the service and worked in the family grocery business. He later worked as an accountant for Mullinax Engineering and Peter Kiewit and Sons. He became purchasing agent for the Billings School District in 1967. He retired in 1982. He bowled and played baseball and football. He enjoyed following the sports activities of his children and grandchildren. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Stephanie Anderson of Boise, Idaho; three sons, Stephen and Gregory, both of Billings, and Peter of Boise; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Helen Brimeyer

Helen Brimeyer, 72, of Buffalo died Thursday, March 6, 2003, at Johnson County Health Care Center. She was sister of June Balenga of Sheridan. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Father Charles Taylor as celebrant. Visitation will be 1-10 p.m. Sunday at Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo. A private family burial will be in Florida. Mrs. Brimeyer was born Oct. 21, 1930, in Stratton, Colo., to Walter and Elsie Proctor. She graduated from Stratton High School in 1948, then obtained her beautician's license. She married Raymond Rehor in Colorado Springs, Colo., in 1951. They later divorced, and she married Richard Brimeyer in 1959. The couple moved to Dubuque, Iowa, where she worked in a box factory for several years. She and Mr. Brimeyer divorced in 1973, and she and one son moved to Buffalo, where she owned and operated the Orchid Beauty Salon on Main Street for 10 years. She retired in 1995. She was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother. Survivors in addition to her sister include two sons, Miles Brimeyer of Buffalo and Ron Rehor of Valrico, Fla.; a brother, Glenn Proctor of Fort Morgan, Colo.; and seven grandchildren. Stanley Howe

Stanley Carl Howe, 80, of Fort Laramie died Saturday, March 1, 2003, in the Wheatland hospital. He was father of Gayetta Johnson of Sheridan. Funeral services were Tuesday in the Presbyterian Church in Fort Laramie. Burial was in the Prairie Rest Cemetery in Guernsey. Arrangements were with Colyer Funeral Home of Torrington. Mr. Howe was born Dec. 20, 1922, in Hemingford, Neb., to Charles Hendee and Mattie Lou (Babcock) Howe. The family lived in several small towns in the panhandle area before moving to ranchlands near Torrington. Mr. Howe received his primary education there. The family later moved to Morrill, Neb. Mr. Howe quit school during the Depression and was employed by a local farmer. He married Virginia Cecilia Selby July 15, 1943, in Gering, Neb. She died in 1990. He served the U.S. government in the mid-1940s, guarding prisoners of war on an isolated farm in Nebraska. He also worked as a truck driver and school bus driver, worked for Holly and Great Western sugar factories and helped restore the Fort Laramie Historical Site. He enjoyed all types of sports in his youth and was a Golden Gloves boxer. He was a former member of the Torrington Moose Lodge and was affiliated with Fort Laramie Presbyterian Church. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Diane; a sister, Myrtle Stone; and three brothers, Donald, Clair and Bob. Survivors include a son, Stanford of Torrington; two other daughters, Judy Lowry of Torrington and Charlene Carbajal of Hartville; a brother, William of Scottsbluff, Neb.; two sisters, Betty Smith of Scottsbluff and Bernice Greenwood of Buckley, Wash.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Fort Laramie Fire Department and Ambulance Service.

Eugene Lewis

Eugene Weston Lewis, 79, of Sheridan died Monday, March 3, 2003, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Kane Funeral Home with Chaplain Arden Haeffner and Pastor Arthur Maendl officiating. Burial will be in the Sheridan Masonic 8 Cemetery. Mr. Lewis was born March 7, 1923, in Millerton, Iowa, to Ernest and Lillian (Rousset) Lewis. He attended schools in Centerville and Corydon, Iowa, and graduated from high school in 1941. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942 and was a Link Trainer instructor. He served at Eagle Pass, Texas, and in Panama. He was discharged in 1946. He worked for Maytag and with the Wyoming Highway Department in Cheyenne. He married Willa “Billie” Wineinger Dec. 11, 1948, in Hardin, Mont. He worked as a technician for the Wyoming National Guard in 1949. His unit, the 300th Field Artillery Battalion of the Wyoming National Guard, was mobilized for duty in the Korean War and sent to Korea in January 1951. Mr. Lewis was discharged from active duty in 1952 and returned to employment with the Wyoming National Guard in Sheridan. He retired after 33 years of military service as battalion administrative assistant with the rank of command sergeant major. He was a member of Sheridan Masonic Lodge 8, American Legion and Order of Saint Barbara and was a lifetime member of the Wyoming National Guard and the Enlisted Association of the National Guard. He was preceded in death by an infant brother and infant sister. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Richard E. of Silverton, Ore., and Larry L. of Sisters, Ore.; two daughters, Carol Channel and Janet L. Buszkiewic, both of Sheridan; a twin sister, Magdalena Hart of Corydon; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Emory Bush

Emory S. Bush, 82, of Sheridan died Monday, March 3, 2003, in Sheridan Manor. Private graveside services were Tuesday at Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery in Evansville under direction of Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Bush was born Sept. 15, 1920, in Rutland, Ohio, to Daniel and Roxie (Swisher) Bush. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy at Pearl Harbor. He worked as a ranch hand around Sheridan County and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Charles Claar

Charles Ray Claar, 45, died Saturday, March 1, 2003, in North Platte, Neb. He was father of Cathleen Lorraine Claar and Kelly Eugene Claar, both of Sheridan. Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service is planned for a later date. Mr. Claar was born July 20, 1957, in Gillette to Eugene Charles Claar and Ruth Evelyn Kimsey Claar. He lived most of his life in Wyoming and New Orleans. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, motorcycles, waterskiing and deep-sea diving. He worked as an automobile mechanic, truck driver and heavy-equipment operator. He also was a crane operator for several years in Moorcroft. He married Lora Geneva Briggs Jan. 16, 1981. They divorced in 1996. Mr. Claar moved to North Platte in 1998. He was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Wayne. Survivors in addition to his children include two brothers, Clell Richard of Moorcroft and Kendall Eugene of Pawleys Island, S.C.

Helen N. Hutton

Helen N. Hutton, 82, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, at Sheridan Manor. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church, Pastor Doug Goodwin officiating. Cremation has taken place with arrangements by Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Hutton was born May 30, 1920, in Binghamton, N.Y. She graduated from The Baldwin School for Girls in Bryn Mawr, Pa., in 1939. She graduated in 1943 from Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts, where she majored in music. She married John G. Hutton on Sept. 18, 1943. She was active in Mariner Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Junior League of Albany, N.Y., and Waynesboro, Va. She volunteered many years for the American Cancer Society, Red Cross and March of Dimes. She was an accomplished violinist and also played the organ. She was an avid skier and tennis player. In 1974 the Huttons purchased a cabin at Teepee in the Big Horn Mountains to be near their grandchildren in the summers. They wintered in Earlysville, Va. Mr. Hutton died in 1995, and Mrs. Hutton moved later that year to Sheridan to be with her daughter. She loved the Big Horns and hiking, camping and fishing with her grandchildren. Survivors include a brother, Brad Nichols, Essex, Conn.; a sister, Janie Eaton, East Orleans, Mass.; three children, Anne Zimmerschied and David Hutton, both of Sheridan, and John Hutton of Palmyra, N.Y.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Interment will follow at Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mr. Holbert was born March 30, 1912, in Orella, Neb., to John E. and Stella M. (Heller) Holbert. Following high school, he worked as a mechanic. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, the mountains, and his guns.

Jimmie Jack Cooper

Jimmie Jack Cooper, 70, died Sunday, March 2, 2003, at Sheridan VA Medical Center. Cremation has taken place. No services will be held at this time. Kane Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Cooper was born Sept. 11, 1932, in Corsicana, Texas, to Thomas B. and Velma (Coskey) Cooper. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy after high school and served in Korea until his discharge. He had been self-employed as a commercial fisherman the past several years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapshooting, and other outdoor activities and was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Russell. Survivors include two daughters, Dawn Young and Aurora Cooper, both of Sitka, Alaska; a son, Tom, of Arlington, Wash.; and seven grandchildren.
