Services for Michael Robert Herbison, 65, of Sheridan, will be 11 a.m. Monday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Stolcis officiating. Visitation will be 1-5 p.m. Sunday at Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Herbison died March 27, 2007, at his home.

Helen E. Kinney

A vigil for Helen E. Kinney, 81, of Sheridan will be 7 p.m. today at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Name Catholic Church with the Rev. Ronald Stolcis officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Elks Cemetery. Mrs. Kinney died March 25, 2007, in St. Vincent's Hospital in Billings. She was born Dec. 21, 1925, in Sparta, Wis., to Worley and Margaret (Sullivan) Fish. She grew up and graduated from high school in Sparta. She received her nursing degree from St. Francis School of Nursing at Viterbo College in LaCrosse, Wis. She moved to Cheyenne in 1948 and worked at Memorial Hospital. She married Richard “Pete” Kinney on Sept. 2, 1950, in Sparta and moved to Boulder, Colo. She moved to California in 1955 and then to Sheridan in 1960. She worked as director of nursing for Sheridan Manor until she retired. She was active in Holy Name Parish singing in the choir, volunteering at the school, and as a member of St. Patrick's Group. She was also a member of the hospital auxiliary. She traveled, read, told stories, cooked and painted china. She was preceded in death by one son, Richard Jr.; one brother, Eugene; and two sisters, Mary Alice and Marguerite. Survivors include three sons, John of Chicago, Peter of Watertown, S.D., and Drew of Belton, Texas; one daughter, Susan Kinney-Lowther of Cody; two sisters, Delores Rigg and Kathleen Fish of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and seven grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Holy Name Catholic Church.

 

Mary Ann Wilbur

Services for Mary Ann Wilbur, 73, of Sheridan will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home in Miles City, Mont. Burial will be in Custer County Cemetery. A reception will follow at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home. Mrs. Wilbur died March 27, 2007, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. She was born Aug. 8, 1933, in Marty, S.D., to Joseph L. and Mercedes (Picotte) Ament. She moved to Lame Deer, Mont., when she was 10 and attended school there. She moved to Ashland, Mont., and graduated from St. Labre High School in 1951. She worked at Hanson Hardware Store in Ashland as a bookkeeper and clerk. She married Raymond F. Wilbur in Billings in 1952, and they farmed and ranched in the Ashland area. She went to work in 1972 at St. Labre Indian Mission in administration and was the opening room supervisor. She retired in 1991 and moved to Sheridan. She was an Atlanta Braves fan, a seamstress and crocheted, gardened, canoed and read. She was a member of the Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons; two brothers; one sister; and one great-granddaughter. Survivors include one son, Dan Wilbur of Glenrock; one daughter, Julie Moline of Sheridan; two brothers, John Ament of Yankton, S.D., and Tom Ament of Rapid City; four sisters, Gracie Gordon of Soldotna, Alaska, Fran Hatfield of Rapid City, Jeanne Brunkhorst of Tampa, Fla., and Marcella Cook of Casper; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Champion Ferries Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

 

Charlotte Ekwall

Cremation has taken place for Charlotte Ekwall, 71, of Sheridan, who died March 28, 2007, in Sheridan Manor. Services will be later with arrangements by Kane Funeral Home.

 

William Severance

Services for William Severance, 67, of Sheridan will be 10 a.m. Monday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with Pastor John Brubaker officiating. Mr. Severance died March 22, 2007, in Westview Health Care Center.

Clarence O. Hubbell

Services for Clarence O. Hubbell, 87, of Sheridan will be 10 a.m. Friday at Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo with the Revs. Ken Burket and Alan Boyles officiating. Burial will be in Willow Grove Cemetery with Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion in charge of military graveside rites. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. Thursday at Adams Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Hubbell died March 20, 2007, in Sheridan Manor. Born Jan. 16, 1920, in Pacific Junction, Iowa, to Walter and Hazel Hubbell, he attended school in Iowa and joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in the late 1930s, then joined the U.S. Army and served in the South Pacific during World War II. After the war he returned to Iowa and moved to Wyoming, where he met and married Fern Ellis on Oct. 31, 1945. Mr. Hubbell enjoyed singing, hunting, fishing, travel, and time with his family. He resided in Upton, where he worked in the oil fields. He also moved to various parts of the country. He moved to Sheridan in 1964 and retired in the early 1980s. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. Survivors include two daughters, Ronna Redmond of Buffalo and Judy Hubbell of Sheridan; three brothers, Charles Hubbell of Buffalo, Dale Hubbell of Omaha, Neb., and Dean Hubbell of Council Bluffs, Iowa; one sister, Doris Wright of Missouri Valley, Iowa; and three granddaughters. Fern O. Hubbell

Services for Fern O. Hubbell, 78, of Sheridan will be 10 a.m. Friday at Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo with the Revs. Ken Burket and Alan Boyles officiating. Burial will be in Willow Grove Cemetery. Visitation is 1-9 p.m. Thursday at Adams Funeral Home Chapel. Mrs. Hubbell died March 26, 2007, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Born July 3, 1928, in Gillette to Harry and Hattie Ellis, she attended school in Upton and married Clarence Hubbell in 1945. She worked in the Linden School cafeteria in Sheridan for several years. She also worked various other jobs until retiring at age 62. She spent time gardening, cooking, sewing and reading. She made her home in Upton and moved to various parts of the country before moving to Sheridan in 1964. She was preceded in death by her husband, one sister and six brothers. Survivors include one brother, Delmer Ellis of Upton; one sister, Marie Jorgensen of Sheridan; and three granddaughters. Lelin E. Owings

Services for Lelin E. Owings, 78, of Sheridan, will be 2 p.m. Friday at Sheridan Salvation Army Chapel with Capt. Jason Gill officiating. Champion Ferries Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Owings died March 22, 2007, in Sheridan Manor. He was born Oct. 28, 1928, in Sheridan and attended schools here. In the eighth grade he went to work for the railroad in Sheridan and learned to weld. He joined the U.S. Army in 1945 and reportedly worked on the atomic bomb on the Manhattan Project in Los Alamos, N.M. He was discharged in June 1947 and returned to Sheridan. He married Patricia R. Doyle on Dec. 24, 1947, in Hardin, Mont. He worked for Burlington Northern Railroad in Sheridan for 47 years, retiring in 1991. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jeffrey and John Owings of Sheridan; three daughters, Aspen Dumas of Sheridan, Shelmer Pinyan of Englewood, Colo., and Shannon Chambers of Champion, Neb.; two brothers, John Carr of Price, Utah, and James Carr of Wahiwa, Hawaii; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, 150 Tschirgi St., Sheridan, WY 82801 or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Margaret Buckley

Cremation has taken place for Margaret Buckley, 86, of Sheridan. Mrs. Buckley died March 21, 2007, in Sheridan Manor. She was born May 13, 1920, in Sheridan to William Hugh and Beulah F. Ausmus. After high school she went to work for Mountain Bell Telephone Co. in Sheridan. She married Archie Wentz in 1941. They had two children. In 1949 she moved to Edgemont, S.D. In 1958 the couple divorced, and she went back to work for Mountain Bell in Casper. In 1964 she married C.G. Buckley. They later moved to Grand Junction, Colo., where she worked for the telephone company and raised and showed Appaloosa horses. She retired from the phone company in 1975. In 1980 the couple divorced and she returned to Sheridan. She worked for Sheridan College for 10 years. Survivors include one brother, Bill Ausmus; one son, Roger Wentz of Sheridan; one daughter, Sheri Gravies of Sheridan; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

 

Frank Ross

Services for Frank Ross, 88, of Sheridan will be 2 p.m. April 6 at Oregon Trails State Cemetery in Casper. Mr. Ross died March 24, 2007, at Sheridan VA Medical Center.. Kane Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

William Severance

Services for William Severance, 67, of Sheridan, will be later in April. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Severance died March 22, 2007, in Westview Health Care Center. He was born May 25, 1939, in Wisconsin to Milton and Ethel (Niles) Severance. He moved to Sheridan, where he grew up and graduated from high school. Mr. Severance enlisted in the Army and then the Air Force, serving in Vietnam. After the service he returned to Sheridan, where he married Anita Parrish on May 23, 1970. He worked for Burlington Northern Railroad until he retired in 2000. He played golf, read, watched movies, traveled and was a member of the United Transportation Union. Survivors include one son, Michael, of Sheridan; one daughter, Annette Long, of Buffalo; one brother, Robert Severance, of Arizona; one sister, Barbara Roadifer, of California; and two grandchildren.

Clarence R. Cates

A Christian wake service will take place 7 p.m. Thursday at Kane Funeral Home for Clarence R. Cates of Sheridan. Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Name Catholic Church with the Rev. Ron Stolcis officiating. Burial will follow in Sheridan Elks Cemetery. Mr. Cates, 88, died Saturday, March 17, 2007, in Billings. He was born Dec. 13, 1918, on a small ranch 10 miles south of Arvada. He attended school through the third grade, then moved to Gillette. He graduated from high school in 1937 and went to work for his father, who had started the first truck line between Sheridan and Gillette. He later worked for Buckingham Transportation Co. before joining the U.S. Navy in April 1942. He served aboard the Destroyer Escort No. 136 Frederick C. Davis and was discharged in December 1945. He married Helen J. Clark on Aug. 10, 1946. He and his brother started Lou's Transfer and Storage Co. He retired and sold the business in 2001. Mr. Cates was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church, Elks Lodge, American Legion and Knights of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his wife, six brothers and one sister. He is survived by two sons, Michael and Jaybe, and one grandson.

 

Shirley Holwell

Cremation has taken place for lifelong Sheridan resident Shirley Holwell. No services were announced. Mrs. Holwell, 68, died Monday, March 19, 2007, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital. She was born Oct. 12, 1938, to Cristoff and Amelia (Leis) Deutsch. She graduated from Sheridan High School in 1957. She married Clifford Holwell on May 17, 1957, and raised two sons. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and spent time with family and friends, in the mountains and in her garden. She was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters. She is survived by her husband; two sons, Curtis Holwell of Castle Rock, Colo., and David Holwell of Gillette; two brothers, Herb Deutsch of Livingston, Mont., and Chris Deutsch of Sheridan; a sister, Lillian Sadler of Sheridan; and six grandchildren. Memorials may be made in Mrs. Holwell's name in care of Kane Funeral Home.

Fred Miller

Funeral services for Fred Miller, 95, of Sheridan will be 2:15 p.m. Tuesday at Sugarland Ridge Retirement and Assisted Living Center with the Rev. William Heine officiating. Cremains will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Miller died Friday, March 16, 2007, in Sheridan Manor. He was born March 31, 1911, in Park City, Mont., to Jacob and Katherine (Zier) Miller. He moved to Hysham, Mont., when he was 2, Ranchester in 1918, and Sheridan in 1923. Mr. Miller took over his parents' beet farm south of Sheridan and ranched in this area, retiring in 1980. In the 1930s he was a boxer, participating in the numerous “smokers” in the Sheridan area. He was a member of Lions Club and Immanuel Lutheran Church. He played cards, cribbage and traveled. Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his wife, Clurus, and eight brothers and sisters. Survivors include one daughter, Beverly Medlock of Westminster, Colo.; one sister, Lydia Miller of Casper; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Cody Ellis Sullens

Funeral services for former Dayton resident Cody Ellis Sullens, 17, of Buffalo will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Big Horn Baptist Church with the Rev. Gail Bell, the Rev. Ed Spurlock and the Right Rev. Vernon Strickland officiating. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. until noon Monday in the Adams Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Sullens died Wednesday morning, March 14, 2007, in a one-car accident five miles north of Kaycee. He was born March 7, 1990, in Pontiac, Ill., to Richard and Teri Sullens. The family moved to Dayton when he was 4. He attended Tongue River Elementary School in Ranchester. He moved to the Purdy Ranch with his mother and attended Billy Creek Country School until the fourth grade. He attended Clear Creek Middle School in Buffalo from the fifth through the eighth grade. He was a sophomore in Buffalo High School. He participated in athletics, playing football, basketball and baseball, and enjoyed skiing. He started riding calves at a young age, and rode bulls in rodeos for the past year. He was an avid archery and rifle hunter and enjoyed fishing. Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Teri and Jim Purdy of Buffalo; one brother, Jeremy Gard of Buffalo; a sister, Jessica Sullens of Buffalo; and his maternal grandparents, the Rev. Gail and Charlene Bell of Nortonville, Ky. Memorials may be made to the Johnson County YMCA or the Cody Sullens Youth Scholarship in care of Adams Funeral Home, 351 N. Daniel G. Balkenbush

Funeral services for Daniel G. Balkenbush, 53, of Story will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of the Pines Catholic Church in Story with the Rev. Ron Stolcis officiating. Burial will be in Kearney Cemetery followed by a reception at Story Woman's Club. A vigil will be 7 p.m. Friday at Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Balkenbush died Saturday, March 10, 2007, at his residence of natural causes. He was born June 26, 1953, in Buffalo to Lois (Peters) and Jim Balkenbush. He grew up in Buffalo and Story and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1972. After high school he attended the University of Wyoming. He married Michelle Sabell in Golden, Colo., on June 5, 1981. They lived in Story while Mr. Balkenbush worked as a foreman at Decker Coal until 1983. They moved to Gillette, where he worked at the Caballo Coal Mine. In 1997 they moved to Big Fork, Mont., where he went into business for himself refinishing log buildings. In 2002, Mr. Balkenbush returned to Story. Mr. Balkenbush coached youth wrestling, baseball, football, track and soccer. He was a volunteer for CHAPS in Sheridan. He was an outdoorsman and horseman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, training horses and packing in the mountains. Survivors include his parents; one son, John Michael of Frederick, Colo.; a daughter, Carly Jo of Key West, Fla.; four brothers, John, Pete and Bob, all of Sheridan, and Ken of Story; two sisters, Jalene Sorenson of Gillette and Judy Balkenbush of Sheridan. Icelene E. Simpson

Funeral services for Icelene E. Simpson, 93, of Story will be 10 a.m. Monday in Halley Olsen Murphy Memorial Chapel in Lancaster, Calif. Burial will be in Joshua Memorial Park in Lancaster. Local arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Simpson was born Nov. 13, 1913, in Montezuma, Iowa, to Byron and Eva (Steele) Playle. She grew up and attended schools in Montezuma and Newton, Iowa. She worked for Spiegel's Catalog and, later, Merle Norman Cosmetics. She moved to California in 1969 and worked for the Los Angeles County sheriff's office until 1975, when she retired. She married Dale Simpson in 1979. He died in 2003, and she moved to Sheridan to be near family. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and enjoyed shopping, holiday baking, and being with family. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth, and a sister, Inez Vestal. Survivors include a sister, Iris Cahhal of Story. Lena M. Guster

Former Sheridan resident Lena M. Guster, 90, of College Station, Texas, died Wednesday, March 7, 2007, at her residence. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. May 26 with the Rev. David Duprey officiating. They will be followed by a reception for family and friends at the Holiday Inn. Arrangements are with Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan, Texas. Mrs. Guster was born in Dunlap, Iowa, to Janie (TenEyck) and Otto Smithers. She grew up in Dunlap and graduated from Dunlap High School in 1934. She received a cosmetology license from Samuels Beauty School in Omaha, Neb. She and her twin sister operated a beauty shop in Dunlap until 1940. She married Norman J. Guster on June 9, 1940, in Dunlap. They moved to Sheridan in 1948, then to North Dakota before returning to Sheridan in 1955. Mrs. Guster was active in the Newcomers Club, Junior Women's Club, Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile. She enjoyed playing cards and visiting with friends at the Senior Citizens Center and helped her husband at Bob's Western Wear, which he owned and managed. She moved to Texas in 2000. Survivors include two daughters, Beverly Guster of College Station and Nancy Isaacs of Denver; her twin sister, Rowena Coleman of Napa, Calif.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the local hospice or Shrine Crippled Children Travel Fund through Karen Green at First Interstate Bank of Commerce. Arlene N. Griffin

Arlene N. Griffin, 79, of Sheridan died Friday, March 9, 2007, in Sheridan Manor. Private family services will be later. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Griffin was born Aug. 14, 1927, in Denver to Leonard M. and Madeline (Wiley) Hebrew. The family moved to Sheridan when she was 3 years old. She grew up and attended schools here and graduated from Sheridan High School. She graduated as a registered nurse from the University of Montana-Missoula. She worked in Billings. She married Robert Pooley in Thermopolis. They lived in Worland, Casper and Billings. Mr. Pooley died in 1957. Mrs. Griffin moved to Sheridan in 1959 and was a secretary for the YMCA and J.M. McDonald's Clothing store. She married Richard Griffin in Sheridan in 1968. He died in 1970. Mrs. Griffin moved to California in 1971. She restored historic buildings in the San Francisco and Santa Rosa areas. She returned to Sheridan in 1998. She was a member of the Episcopal Church and the Professional Women's Association. She enjoyed historic restoration and spending time with her family. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a daughter. Survivors include a son, Robert Pooley of Sheridan; a brother, Merrill Hebrew of Santa Rosa, Calif.; a sister, Barbara Jayne of Kona, Hawaii; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for former Sheridan resident Juanita J. Haynes, 90, will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Assembly of God Church in Miles City, Mont. Burial will be in the family lot in Custer County Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Mrs. Haynes died Saturday, March 10, 2007, in Miles City. Mrs. Haynes was born June 6, 1916, in Tulsa, Okla., to the Rev. William and Grace (Loyd) Boyles. She played the piano and organ for her church. She graduated from Custer County High School in 1936 and attended a business college in St. Paul, Minn. She married Orville Gilmore Haynes in 1939. She was a member of Lighthouse Assembly of God in Miles City for 65 years, serving many years as church treasurer. She enjoyed entertaining in her home, baking and sewing. She was a member of the Trainman's Auxiliary. She supported her children and grandchildren in rodeo, football, track, volleyball, cheerleading and basketball and was a fan of the Wyoming Cowboys and Cowgirls. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Gordon; and a granddaughter. Survivors include two sons, Gary and Bob, both of Miles City; a daughter, Debbi of Sheridan; a brother, William of Florida; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Lena Maye Guster

Former Sheridan resident Lena Maye Guster, 90, of College Station, Texas, died Wednesday, March 7, 2007, at her home. Mrs. Guster resided in Sheridan for more than 45 years until moving to Texas in 2000. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. May 26 at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with the Rev. David Duprey officiating, followed by a reception for family and friends at the Sheridan Holiday Inn. Mrs. Guster was born in Dunlap, Iowa, to Janie (TenEyck) and Otto Smithers. She grew up in Dunlap and graduated from Dunlap High School in 1934. After graduation she received a cosmetology license from Samuels Beauty School in Omaha, Neb. She and her twin sister returned to Dunlap, where they operated a beauty shop until 1940.  She married Norman J. Guster on June 9 ,1940, in Dunlap. They moved to Sheridan in 1948. They moved to North Dakota in 1955, later returning to Sheridan. Mrs. Guster was involved in Newcomers Club, Junior Women's Club, Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile. In her later years, she spent afternoons at the Senior Citizens Center, where she enjoyed playing cards and visited with friends. She also helped her husband at Bob's Western Wear, which he owned and managed. Survivors include three daughters, Beverly Guster of College Station and twins Nancy Isaacs of Denver and Rowena Coleman of Napa, Calif.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Daniel G. Balkenbush, 53, of Story will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of the Pines Catholic Church in Story with the Rev. Ron Stolcis officiating. Funeral services for former Sheridan resident Olga Osborne, 84, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Gillette Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses with Kelly Van Engen officiating. Burial will follow in Gillette's Mount Pisgah Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m. before the service. Mrs. Osborne died Saturday, March 10, 2007, of natural causes. She was born Aug. 8, 1922, to Chris and Flora (Price) Olsen on their homestead southeast of Gillette. She attended Campbell County rural schools. The family moved to Timber Creek, where Mrs. Osborne worked on the family ranch until 1942. She then moved to Igloo, S.D., and later to Casper to take sheet metal training. She returned home for a short time before moving to California to paint ships. She returned to Gillette in 1944. She married Ronald J. Osborne on March 13, 1946. They resided in and around the Gillette area until they bought a small farm east of Wyodak. After the death of her husband in 1968, she moved into Gillette, later to Milton-Freewater, Ore., then to Sheridan and Riverton before returning to Gillette in 1985. Mrs. Osborne enjoyed gardening, her dogs, cats and parrots, reading, and spending time with her family and friends. Survivors include two daughters, Bertha Baumann and Bonnie Sharp of Gillette; one sister, Elsie Bates; two granddaughters; two grandsons; four great-granddaughters; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, two brothers and two nephews. The family asks that no flowers be sent. Edwin Vance `Ted' Newcomer

Funeral services for Sheridan native Edwin Vance “Ted” Newcomer, 93, of Benton City, Wash., will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center in Worland with Bishop Jack Stott officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Worland. Visitation will be from noon until service time in the Relief Society Room at the church. Bryant Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements in Worland. Mr. Newcomer died Friday, March 9, 2007, in Benton City. He was born Nov. 15, 1913, on Prairie Dog Creek outside Sheridan to Ed and Eva Newcomer. He attended Linden Elementary and the one-room schoolhouse at Red Butte before attending Sheridan High School. He graduated from the University of Wyoming with degrees in animal husbandry and agronomy and earned a teaching certificate as well. He married Wilma Adele Donaldson in Sheridan on Aug. 15, 1938. He taught vocational agriculture classes in Burns, Lander and Buffalo. He was a post-World War II agriculture trainer for returning veterans in the Buffalo area. In 1953 he began managing the Northern Wyoming Federal Land Bank until his retirement in 1978. A job transfer led to Worland, where he lived for 34 years. Mrs. Newcomer died in 1998. Mr. Newcomer was a member of the Community Concert board, tree board, garden clubs, museum board, was a Boy Scout and Boy Scouts leader and adviser, and participated in church activities. He participated in theater and choirs. In Buffalo he was branch president for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served an 18-month couples mission in Hawaii for the church. He played sax and clarinet. In Buffalo, he played with Beulah and Her Boys, and in Worland he played with Knights of Note. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth and Esther, and two brothers, Earl and Fred. Survivors include two sons, Ted of Fort Collins, Colo., and Fred of Evanston; three daughters, Corlet of Benton City, Anna Beth of Hillsboro, Ore., and Christine of Phoenix; a brother, Ralph of Sheridan; 22 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandson. She grew up and graduated from high school in Oregon and worked as a waitress. She married Mike Huff. They lived in Bend, Ore., before moving to Rock Springs. She and Mr. Huff were divorced, and she married Earl Rasmussen in Sheridan, where they moved in 1996. She worked at Westview Health Care Center and then Sheridan Manor. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and the mountains. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Rick Hall of Sheridan and Wesley Huff of Buffalo; a daughter, Adina Huff of Spokane, Wash.; a brother, Bob Hartle; three sisters, Nancy Betacourt, Esther Sanchez and Janet Sanborn; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was born March 15, 1922, in Kleenburn to Bruno and Elizabeth (Varcalli) Polito. She grew up on a ranch near Decker, Mont., and attended Monument Creek School. The family moved into Sheridan in 1940, and she graduated from Sheridan High School in 1942. She worked at the Lotus Cafe until 1944, when she began a 50-year career as a sales clerk for Von Ragsdale Co., C.R. Anthony's, J.M. McDonald's and Conrad's. She retired from Conrad's in 1994. She married Maxon Baker on July 13, 1947, in Sheridan. She was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church and enjoyed sewing, crocheting and cooking for her family. She was preceded by in death by two sisters, Josephine Polito and Mary Bach. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Janus Powell of Ranchester; two sisters, Ellen Polito of Sheridan and Lois Lewis of Hardin, Mont.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services for DeLaine Ann Wagner, 85, of Sheridan, will be 2 p.m. Friday at Seventh-day Adventist Church with the Rev. Weldon Treat officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery under direction of Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Wagner died Tuesday, March 6, 2007, in Sheridan Manor. She was born July 18, 1921, on a ranch near Gillette to Earl and Christina (Zeigler) Camblin. She grew up on the Pumpkin Butte Ranch and graduated from high school in Gillette. She received a nursing degree from St. John's McNamara nursing school in Rapid City in 1942. She married Wesley Traner in 1944. They divorced. She married Albert Wagner in 1955. They lived in Sheridan and divorced. Mrs. Wagner lived for a time in Gillette and worked at Campbell County Memorial Hospital. She later returned to Sheridan and worked at Memorial Hospital, Sheridan VA Medical Center and Sheridan Manor, where she retired. A member of Seventh-day Adventist Church, she was an avid rockhound and enjoyed the outdoors, camping and collecting antiques. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Annadee Traner. Survivors include two sons, Russell Traner of Roseburg, Ore., and Tim Wagner of Buffalo; two daughters, Christine Kelm of Olympia, Wash., and Carla Strain of Silverthorne, Colo.; three sisters, Josephine Fortin of Upton, Betty Woods of Gillette and Alberta Cox of Moorcroft; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She then taught in Jeffrey City before coming to Tongue River Elementary in Ranchester, where she taught for 26 years. She was born July 24, 1928, in Crow Agency, Mont., to Edward and Elnora (Kelsey) Bixby. She grew up on the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation as a member of the Northern Cheyenne tribe. She attended boarding school and was a 1944 graduate of high school in Busby, Mont. She married W.P. “Bill” Gleason on Sept. 19, 1945, in Hardin, Mont. They lived in Sheridan until 1957, when they moved to Gillette. They returned to Sheridan in 1972. Mrs. Gleason worked for Boyd's Supermarket in Gillette and Sheridan. Mr. Gleason died in 1999, and Mrs. Gleason returned to Gillette to be near family. She enjoyed gardening, yard work, cooking, camping, fishing and being with her grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Gary; a great-grandson; three brothers; and five sisters. Survivors include a son, William “Bud” Gleason of Sheridan; a daughter, Sandra Reynolds of Gillette; a sister, Darlene Bowman of Auburn, Wash.; 13 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. She was born Feb. 8, 1919, in Mayville to Oscar and Tilla Strom. She grew up in Mayville and was a 1936 graduate of Mayville High School. She worked as a waitress, housekeeper and nanny for three years. She married Alvin K. Eastvold on Dec. 15, 1939, in the Mayville Lutheran Church. They farmed until Mr. Eastvold retired. They moved to Sheridan in 1997 to be nearer family. They spent time on their farm during summers for the next seven years. Mrs. Eastvold served on her church council, was president of the Ladies Aid, chairwoman of annual fall dinners, and taught Sunday school. She enjoyed the farm, baking, cooking and entertainment. She sewed, crocheted, embroidered and wrote children's stories. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Darryl; a brother, Oral Strom; and a sister, Roselyn Aronoff. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Otteson of Sheridan; a brother, Wallace Strom of Windsor, Colo.; two sisters, Hazel Potter of Marysville, Wash., and Ione Golden of Friendship, N.Y.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Steinfeld was born July 13, 1922, in Deloit, Neb., to Theresa Anna (Fraundorfer) and Henry Edward Arthur. She married Arthur Steinfeld on Feb. 4, 1946, in Kennebeck, S.D. Shirley Anna Hopkins Taylor

Former Sheridan-area resident Shirley Anna Hopkins Taylor, 83, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2007, in Billings following a stroke. A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Friday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Sheridan, followed by a reception at The Powder Horn. Arrangements are with Bullis Mortuary in Hardin, Mont. Mrs. Taylor was born Sept. 29, 1923, in Chicago to Farley and Margaret von Maur Hopkins. She grew up in Chicago and Lake Forest, Ill., and graduated from Ethel Walker's School in Connecticut. Her first trip to the West was as a guest at the HF Bar Ranch near Buffalo in the mid-1930s. She married Walter Jennings Taylor on April 15, 1944, in Lake Forest. They lived in Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y., and moved to Kirby, Mont., in 1949 after Mr. Taylor purchased the Dick Glenn ranch. Mrs. Hopkins became involved in many activities around Sheridan and was among those who formed the Big Horn Equestrian Center (now the Big Horn Events Center). She was a member of the Memorial Hospital board in the early 1950s and the board of directors of Sheridan Memorial Hospital Foundation from 1997-2001. She bred Thoroughbred race horses, owning many Group 1 stakes winners. She was a part owner of Alleged, winner at the Curragh in 1976 and the Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe in 1977 and 1978. She used her winnings from Alleged in a mare-breeding program. She was one of the few women members of the Jockey Club, beginning in 1989, and served as president of the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association from 1984 to 1987. She was preceded in death by her husband. Survivors include four children, James of Billings, Susanna Meyer of St. Paul, Minn., Walter “Watty” Taylor Jr. of Kirby, and Margaret J. Alma Anna Steinfeld

Alma Anna Steinfeld, 84, of Sheridan died Thursday, March 1, 2007, in Sheridan Manor. Cremation has taken place, and no services are planned at this time in keeping with her wishes. Cooley Butler

Memorial services for Cooley Butler, 46, of Sheridan will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Bethesda Worship Center, 1100 Big Horn Ave., with Pastor Scott Lee officiating. Arrange-ments are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Butler died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2007, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. He was born March 19, 1960, in Sheridan to Cooley and Connie (Lowe) Butler. He was a graduate of Tongue River High School. He lived in Sheridan most of his life. He married Kerrie Harnish in 1980. He enjoyed entertaining people with his music and supported other musicians in production of their works. He also enjoyed acting, appearing in performances of "Greater Tuna," "Midnight" and "The Boys Next Door." He enjoyed soccer, mountain-biking, skiing, kayaking, golf and spending time at the family ranch near Parkman. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include a son, Cooley Allen O'Toole Butler; three sisters, Sharon Wolcott of Pasadena, Calif., Cean Weber of Sheridan, and Sarah Bowman of Parkman; a brother, Tom of Bingen, Wash.; and a granddaughter. David P. Ferrari

A Christian wake service for Dr. David P. Ferrari, 65, of Sheridan will be 7 p.m. today at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Name Catholic Church with the Rev. Ron Stolcis officiating. Dr. Ferrari died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2007, in Sheridan VA Medical Center. He was born Dec. 7, 1941, in Athol, Mass., to Antonio and Greta (Richards) Ferrari. He enlisted in the Navy in 1960 and served until 1964, when he was honorably discharged. He married Kathleen Mickinak on Jan. 4, 1969, in Latrobe, Pa. He attended Montana State University-Bozeman and graduated in 1973 from Palmer College of Chiropractic. He enjoyed fly-fishing and photography. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dennis. Survivors include his wife and numerous nieces and nephews. Evelyn Irene Malli

Evelyn Irene Malli, 88, of Arvada died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2007, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo with Mike Lovato officiating. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. Friday and 8:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday in the chapel. Burial will be in Arvada Cemetery with graveside services. Mrs. Malli was born April 20, 1918, to Charles A. “Sage” and Josephine Gossett Collins in a log cabin six miles east of Arvada on Wild Horse Creek. Mr. Collins died when Mrs. Malli was 12, and her mother later married Bob Tyler. Mrs. Malli attended country school near Wild Horse and high school in Arvada and Gillette. She married Gusti Malli on April 14, 1936, in Buffalo. They made their home on the family ranch in Arvada. Mr. Malli died in 1983. Mrs. Malli remained on the ranch until her death. She was a member of the Arvada Women's Club for many years. She enjoyed her flowers and cows, reading, and visits from her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends and neighbors. Survivors include two sons, Riley and Buz, both of Arvada; two daughters, Norma Malli of Arvada and Donna Hakert of Buffalo; one sister, Zella Gibson of Montrose, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Pete Deliramich

Memorial services for Pete Deliramich, 82, of Sheridan will be 10 a.m. Friday at Kane Funeral Home with Al Badgett officiating. Mr. Deliramich died Monday, Feb. 26, 2007, in Sheridan. Cremation has taken place. Burial of cremains will be in Sheridan Masonic 43 Cemetery with military honors following memorial services. Mr. Deliramich was born July 7, 1924, in Gebo to Dan and Mary (Stetz) Deliramich. He served in the Navy from 1942 until 1945, when he was honorably discharged. He married Erma Jean Carr on Feb. 20, 1953, in Sheridan. He was involved in Webb Wright baseball, umpiring Little League and American Legion games. He also was involved in Boys State, worked the bullpen for YMCA swimming, was a member and past commander of American Legion Post 7 and a past American Legion department commander, and member of Kalif Shrine Oriental Band and the Elks Lodge. He retired from the Sheridan VA Medical Center after working many years as a pipe fitter/plumber. He was preceded in death by his wife. Survivors include two sons, Dan of Buffalo and Andy of Gillette; a daughter, Kathi of Billings; and two grandchildren. Memorials may be made to American Legion Post 7 Baseball Program, 137 N.
