BUFFALO Dennis Everet Hulet, 59, of Buffalo died March 28, 2008, in Sheridan VA Medical Center. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bob McHenry officiating. Visitation is 1-9 p.m. today and 8:30-9:30 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel. Memorials may be made to Buffalo Gun Club in care of Adams Funeral Home, 351 N. Funeral Mass for Sheridan native James Pete Evangeline Jr., 73, of Billings will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Smith's West Chapel in Billings. Burial will be in Park City Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today. Mr. Evangeline died March 27 in Billings. He was born Aug. 7, 1934, to James and Ludine Evangeline of Sheridan. He married Lorraine Lewis on Dec. 20, 1954. He was an Army veteran and worked at several trades before starting Billings Refrigeration Service, which he operated for 38 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, horses, his dog, Pickles, and being with family and friends. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Belle, and one grandson. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Lucinda Allen and Helen Brown; two sons, Mark and Dimitri; a brother, Joseph; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Memorial services for Gerald C. Williams, 87, of Sheridan will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church. Mr. Williams died March 29, 2008, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Cremation has taken place, and arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Williams was born Sept. 19, 1920, in Eaton, Colo., to George and Vira Williams. He enlisted in the Army Air Force in May 1942 and served as a sergeant E-5 until November 1945, when he was honorably discharged. He served at Rogers and Hickam airfields in the Army. He married Nancy Larson on Nov. 7, 1959, in Fairplay, Colo. He enjoyed watching rodeos and reading. He was preceded in death by two brothers, one sister and a daughter, Wenona Williams. Survivors include his wife; children Dustin Williams of Hayden, Colo., Amanda Weddleton of Casper, Jerry Williams of Hamer, Idaho, Kay Williams of Ovid, Colo., Pam and Vicki Williams, both of Denver, and Wesley Williams of Walden, Colo.; and a number of grandchildren. James H. Kuhn, 89, of Sheridan died March 21, 2008, at his residence. Memorial services will be later with arrangements by Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Kuhn was born Dec. 6, 1918, in Fulton County, Ind., to Henry and Oma (Perry) Kuhn. He grew up and attended schools in Indiana. He married Dorothy Pearl in the early 1940s. She preceded him in death. Mr. Kuhn served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, then returned to Indiana and worked 30 years as a telephone lineman for GTE. He began coming to the West after taking his son to college in Wyoming in 1965. He traveled to Montana for many years to hunt and fish. He married Cossette Herrick on Oct. 16, 1965, in Indiana. After he retired, the couple built a log home on the Madison River near Ennis, Mont., where they lived for 23 years until moving to Sheridan. Mr. Kuhn was a member of the Eagles, former governor of the Loyal Order of Moose, past commander of the American Legion, and life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. A builder and avid hunter and fisherman, he also enjoyed Western movies, visiting with family, and communicating with family and friends on the Internet. In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Jean, and three sisters, Peggy, Barbara and Evelyn. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Sally Hart of Sheridan; six sons, Joe Kuhn of Great Falls, Mont., Charles Kuhn of Rochester, Ind., and Michael Kuhn and James, Jerry and Jeffrey Smith, all of LaPorte, Ind.; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Alex N. Ogilvie, 83, of Sheridan and Newcastle died March 23, 2008, in Sheridan VA Medical Center. Cremation has taken place, and memorial services will be later in Montana. Local arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Jael Heaven Gosnell-Haught Jael Heaven Gosnell-Haught, newborn daughter of Jonie Gosnell and Jason Haught of Sheridan, died March 22, 2008, in Billings. Viewing for Elmer H. Bud Werbelow, 84, of Sheridan will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Werbelow died March 25, 2008, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church in Emblem with the Rev. Phil Grovenstein officiating, followed by burial in Emblem Cemetery. Arrangements in Emblem are with Atwood Family Funeral Directors. Mr. Werbelow was born April 4, 1923, in Greybull to Martin and Ella (Blank) Werbelow. He grew up and attended schools in Emblem. He worked on the family farm until World War II, when he served with the U.S. Army. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He married Elizabeth Bandhauer on Aug. 20, 1947, in Salzburg, Austria. They moved to Fort Lewis, Wash., where he completed his enlistment, then to Emblem, where Mr. Werbelow farmed until 1955, when they moved to Kremlin, Mont. Mr. Werbelow worked for Hill County as an equipment operator until 1962, when the family returned to Emblem. He farmed for Werbelow Bros. until 1966, then returned to Kremlin to work as custodian for Kremlin Public School. He retired in 1990, and the Werbelows moved to Sheridan in 2005. He was a member of Kremlin Lutheran Church, Zion Lutheran Church in Emblem, and Trinity Lutheran Church in Sheridan. He also belonged to the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed playing the guitar and harmonica, bowling, pinochle, hunting, fishing, telling jokes, roller skating, sports, and coffee with friends. He won awards with his Christmas decorations. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and Dick. Survivors include his wife; four sons, John of Riverton, Ken of Buffalo, Ray of San Angelo, Texas, and Pat of Bismarck, N.D.; a daughter, Deanna Brenden of Sheridan; four brothers, Joe and George, both of Emblem, Clarence of Powell, and Pete of Greybull; seven sisters, Irma Olbricht of Hamilton, Mont., Gladys Behneman of Boise, Idaho, Doris Schmidt of Lovell, Evelyn Ellison of Powell, Becky Henderson of Greybull, Jean Werbelow of Monterey, Calif., and Mary Shepard of San Jose, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be to: Trinity Lutheran Church, 135 Crescent Drive, Sheridan, WY 82801; Zion Lutheran Church in Emblem; or Disabled American Veterans.
Sheridan-native Charlene Grace Ledbetter, 76, died March 21, 2008, in Oklahoma City. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in HahnCook/Street & Draper Chapel in Oklahoma City followed by burial in Rose Hill Park. Mrs. Ledbetter was born Jan. 26, 1932, in Sheridan to Charles and Grace (Snell) Babcock. She graduated from Sheridan High School in 1949. She married Charles Edgar Ledbetter in Sheridan on Oct. 28, 1954. He died Jan. 9, 1999. The family moved to Oklahoma City in 1961 after living in various communities in the United States and Bolivia. Mrs. Ledbetter was an elementary school secretary at Stand Waite and West Nichols Hills for more than 20 years. Survivors include two sons, Charles David of Oklahoma City and Mark Andrew of Alexandria, Va.; a sister, Khairman Jane Creswell, and brother, Charles William Babcock, both of Sheridan; and two grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the American Breast Cancer Association.

Funeral services for Joan Ruth Allred, 76, of Sheridan will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sheridan with Bishop John Slaughter officiating. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Burial will be 3 p.m. Tuesday in Mount View Cemetery in Billings. Mrs. Allred died March 21, 2008, in Sheridan Manor. She was born Dec. 5, 1931, in Billings to Golden Logan and Ruby Elizabeth (Merryman) Sessions. She grew up and attended schools in Billings, until her family moved to Lovell. She was a 1948 graduate of Lovell High School. She attended Eastern Montana College in Billings and began a teaching career at age 19. She received her master's degree in school administration from California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks in 1975 and continued teaching in Montana, California, Utah and Wyoming. She retired in 1986 and moved to Sheridan in October 2002. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1st Ward in Sheridan. She volunteered at Sheridan Memorial Hospital and enjoyed genealogy, beading, knitting, painting and other arts and crafts. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter. Survivors include two daughters, Susan Lindsey of Puyallup, Wash., and Lora Kappy Churchill of Sheridan; two sons, Justin Ryan of Federal Way, Wash., and William Mansikka of Marina, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Arts & Crafts Department of Sheridan Manor, Sheridan Senior Citizens Center, or the Dialysis Unit at Sheridan Memorial Hospital.
Mary M. Mickinak, 93, of Greensburg, Pa., died March 16, 2008, in the Excela Health Latrobe (Pa.) Hospital. She was mother of Kathleen Ferrari of Sheridan. Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in John J. Lopatich Funeral Home in Latrobe. Rosary will be recited at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Holy Family Church in Latrobe. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Latrobe. Mrs. Mickinak was born June 18, 1914, in Snydertown, Pa., to Michael and Julia (Radacosky) Zitt. She was a member of Holy Family Church and its Rosary Society, Silver Threads, and Catholic Daughters of America No. 230. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Peck Mickinak; two brothers, John and Andrew Zitt; and five sisters, Catherine Barron, Ann Kelly, Helen Maurer, Julia Gulas and Margaret Stemmler. In addition to her daughter, survivors include two sons, Richard of Rector, Pa., and John of Greensburg; a brother, Michael Zitt of Latrobe; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Sheridan County native Daniel Dushan Novakovich, 95, of San Diego died March 1, 2008, at his home. He was brother of Gordon Novakovich of Sheridan. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. March 29 at Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Novakovich grew up in the old coal-mining communities of Model/Kleenburn and Monarch. He was a 1931 graduate of Sheridan High School and played football for the Broncs. He was an Army sergeant in World War II. He later worked in coal mining and was a member of the Teamsters union. He retired in 1996 and moved to San Diego to be with his son. He volunteered with the San Diego Boys and Girls Club. Survivors include a son, Daniel Milan of San Diego; three other brothers, Dan Phillip, Leslie and Gary; two sisters, Margaret and Lucy; and two grandchildren.
Carl Frank Pehringer, 66, of Buffalo died March 18, 2008, in Deaconess Medical Center in Billings. He was brother of Don and Jerry Pehringer, both of Big Horn, and Leon Pehringer of Sheridan. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bob McHenry officiating. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. Sunday and 8:30-9:30 a.m. Monday in the chapel. Burial will be in Willow Grove Cemetery with graveside services following the funeral. Mr. Pehringer was born Jan. 7, 1942, in Alva to Frank and Mary Ellen Slaybaugh Pehringer. The family moved to Buffalo in 1944, and he grew up and attended school there. He worked at the Buffalo Bowling Alley and Idlewilde Hotel while in high school. He married Sharon Kay Thompson on Sept. 2, 1960, in Egan, S.D. They resided in Buffalo. Mr. Pehringer worked at construction jobs and for Decker Coal while developing his own business. He bought his first piece of equipment in 1962. In 1984, he went into business with Pehringer Excavating full time. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, exploring back roads and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife in December 2000; a son; a brother; and one sister. Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Mary Ellen and Charles Fitzpatrick of Buffalo; four sons, Allen, Scott, Gary and Milo, all of Buffalo; four daughters, Tamara Walker of Plattsmouth, Neb., Penny and Candy, both of Buffalo, and Erin Hanson of Gillette; another brother, Ray of Salt Lake City; 15 grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Memorial services for Philip R. Fud Gifford Jr., 59, will be 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Sheridan Elks Lodge, according to his family, which is handling arrangements. Mr. Gifford died March 16, 2008, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital of cancer. He was born Dec. 18, 1948, in Sheridan to Philip R. and Maxine Gifford Sr. He received an associate degree from Sheridan College and attended the University of Wyoming. He was drafted into the Army in his senior year. After service, he returned to Sheridan and went to work at Decker Coal. He later developed a tri-state wholesale bait and tackle business. He enjoyed the Big Horn Mountains, camping, fishing, barbecuing, trips to Las Vegas, and his four Dalmatian dogs. He was a Wyoming athletics and Yankees fan. He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Claudia K. Plachek. Survivors include his wife, Linda; a daughter, Holly; his mother; and three brothers, Rod, Richard and Ed.
Carol L. Hamilton, 81, of Sheridan died March 13, 2008, in Sheridan Manor after a long illness. Cremation has taken place, and no services are scheduled. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Hamilton was born Oct. 23, 1926, in Alpina, S.D., to Lester and Anna Hamilton. She married William Hamilton in Oelrichs, S.D. She worked as a licensed beautician for many years. She enjoyed raising Pomeranian dogs, crocheting, crafts and being with her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, five sisters and one grandchild. Survivors include a daughter, Barb Dugan of Clearmont; three sons, Dale of Sheridan, Dave of Superior, Colo., and Larry of Buffalo; two brothers; one sister; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Memorial services for Jordon Kas Miller, 3, of Sheridan will be 11 a.m. Friday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Dan Keller officiating. He died March 16, 2008, in the Emergency Room of Sheridan Memorial Hospital of injuries sustained in an accident at his home. He was born Sept. 2, 2004, in Sheridan to Jared and Ayla (Bolinger) Miller. He attended Myers Roundup day care center. Survivors include his parents; two sisters, Natalie Traphagan of Sheridan and Shelby Grayce Denison of Grand Junction, Colo.; his grandparents, Matt and Debbie Miller and Sam and Susan Bolinger; and great-grandparents Carolyn Bakotich, William Roush and Georgia Andreason.
Arlene L. Tannehill, 91, Sheridan, died March 14, 2008, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Kane Funeral Home, the Rev. Ken Doolin officiating, with burial in Sheridan Elks Cemetery. Born Feb. 26, 1917, near Wolf Point, Mont., to J.W. and Alice Riddle, she married Donald Tannehill. The couple moved to Sheridan in 1949 and became part owners of KWYO Radio, which later became Cloud Peak Radio and Television Corp. They helped pioneer cable television in northern Wyoming. The Tannehills were active in First Baptist Church of Sheridan, All-American Indian Days, the Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis Club, and Powder River Navy. Mr. Tannehill died in 1979. Survivors include two children, Larry J. Tannehill of Sheridan and Kay A. Christy of Littleton, Colo.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. BUFFALO Former Big Horn Coal supervisor Raymond Eugene Stafford, 86, of Buffalo died March 16, 2008, at his residence. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo with the Rev. Bob McHenry officiating. Visitation is 1-9 p.m. today and 8:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Services will be followed by military graveside rites at Willow Grove Cemetery in Buffalo. Mr. Stafford was a supervisor at Big Horn Coal until 1987, when he retired. Memorials may be made to Wesleyan Building Fund or Buffalo Senior Center in care of the funeral home.
Robert V. Fisk, 40, of Columbus, Mont., died March 4, 2008, in Columbus. He was son of Cliff and Annita Fisk and brother of Pauline Fisk, all of Sheridan. Funeral services were March 8 in Smith Funeral Chapel-Columbus. Mr. Fisk was born Sept. 15, 1967, in Lander. He grew up in the mountains around Dubois. He married Jennifer Cathey on July 26, 1991, in Sheridan. Mr. Fisk had worked as an underground miner at the Stillwater Mine for 14 years at the time of his death. He enjoyed welding and woodworking. In addition to his parents and sister, survivors include his wife; a son, Casey Unger of Hanna; a daughter, Mikala Cofer of Wheatland; two other sisters, Joy Thompson of Green River and Christina Fisk of Park City, Mont.; and his grandmother, Marie Lamb of Casper.
William Morgan, 73, Arvada, died March 14, 2008, at his home. Services will be this summer with arrangements by Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Born May 5, 1934, in Butler, Ohio, to Kinsey and Elizabeth (Sutton) Morgan, he grew up and attended schools in Ohio. He moved to Clearmont as a young man and worked on ranches, including the OW. He served in the Army in the Korean War. Afterward, he returned to Ohio and married Shirley Miller on June 9, 1956, in Angola, Ind. Mr. Morgan worked construction, and the couple ran a dairy farm. In 1968 they moved to the Big Horn area, where he worked on ranches. He later worked for construction companies including Kiewit. In the late 1970s, he worked in Saudi Arabia and the Persian Gulf region supervising pipeline construction. He returned to the United States and worked for several construction companies before moving to Arvada in 1999. He was working for B&G Roustabouts at the time of his death. He enjoyed gardening and his family and friends. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Joan Hoeflich and Phyllis Divelbiss; and two grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of Englewood, Fla.; four sons, Daniel of Gillette, Edward of Ashland, Mont., Butch of Clarkesville, Ga., and Christopher of Kentucky; two daughters, Kathryn Daly of Banner and Karen Morgan of Dallas; a brother, Roger Morgan of Butler; three sisters, Ruth Forbes of Ohio, Mary Kusser of Sandusky, Ohio, and Jean Bildsten of Dunnellon, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Former Sheridan resident Lydia Miller, 90, of Casper died Feb. 26, 2008, in Shepherd of the Valley Care Center in Casper. Memorial services were this morning at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sheridan with the Rev. Phil Wold officiating. Arrangements are with Bustard's Funeral Home and Crematory of Casper. Miss Miller was born Dec. 14, 1917, in Hysham, Mont., to Jacob and Katherine (Zier) Miller. She was a 1935 graduate of Sheridan High School and a 1939 graduate of Eastern Montana Normal School. She taught five years in a one-room school in Montana, then worked as a telegraph operator for Western Union for 30 years. After retiring, she returned to Sheridan. She moved to Casper in 1999. A member of Trinity Lutheran Church, she enjoyed writing letters, reading, gardening and sewing. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Henry, Jack, Buck, George and Fred; and four sisters, Kate Marker, Mary Smith, Maybelle Martin and Edith Dvorak. Former Story resident Eileen V. Browning, 81, of Whiting, N.J., died March 13, 2008, in Community Medical Center in Toms River, N.J. Burial of cremains will be later in the Elks Section of Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Browning was born in New York City and lived in Pennsauken, N.J., before moving to Story. She moved to Whiting in 2002. She graduated from Cooper Hospital of Nursing in Camden, N.J., as a registered nurse and served in the Cadet Nursing Corps during World War II. She retired as a registered nurse from Cooper Medical Center in Camden in 1974. She was a 30-year volunteer for the Red Cross of New Jersey and a volunteer emergency medical technician in Wyoming. She and her husband, Dr. William J. Browning, were instrumental in starting Hospice of the Big Horns, according to her family. Dr. Browning died in 2001. Survivors include a son, W. Lawrence of Forked River, N.J.; a daughter, Lyn Dubeck of Bala-Cynwyd, Pa.; a brother, John McColdrick of Starr, Idaho; and three grandchildren. Sheridan native Allegra Jane Tig Skurok, 84, of Buffalo died March 15, 2008, in her home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Buffalo with the Rev. Jon Orwig officiating. Private burial will follow the funeral. Arrangements are with Adams Funeral Home. Mrs. Skurok was born April 23, 1923, in Sheridan to John and Docie Schoolcraft. She grew up and attended schools here, graduating in 1942 from Sheridan High School. She married Andy Skurok on Dec. 23, 1943, in Hardin, Mont. They resided in Buffalo. Mrs. Skurok was a clerk at the J.C. Penney store, Hesteds Five and Dime Store, and the New York Store. She also worked several years for the Buffalo Bulletin before retiring in 1999. Mr. Skurok died in June 1997. She was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church and the Friday afternoon lunch club. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening and spending time with her family at their cabin in the Big Horn Mountains. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Vanderhoef; three sisters; and two brothers. Survivors include a son, Ron of Mills; a daughter, Susi Skurok of Buffalo; two sisters, Mildred McDaniel of Green Valley, Ariz., and Reba Busk of Billings; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Memorials may be made to Susie Bowling Lawrence Hospice or Wyoming Special Olympics in care of Adams Funeral Home in Buffalo.

Former Sheridan resident Lucile Blevins Shreve, 84, of Sparks, Nev., died March 4, 2008, in Sparks. A memorial service will be 1-3 p.m. April 12 at the home of her daughter, 270 Virgil Drive in Sparks. Mrs. Shreve was born Feb. 13, 1924, in Sheridan to Clefton and Clara (Patton) Blevins. The family moved to Decker, Mont., when she was 3 years old and homesteaded on the Tongue River on the Wyoming/Montana border. She attended Squirrel Creek School through the eighth grade, then attended Sheridan High School. She married Ralph "Gene" Shreve in 1941. She worked as an operator with Bell Telephone Co. in Sheridan until 1963, when the family moved to Sparks. She transferred to Nevada Bell until she retired. She and Mr. Shreve owned and operated the Nic Nac Shelf Ceramic Shop in Sparks, where she was an instructor. In later years, the Shreves spent their winters in San Carlos, Mexico, and their summers at Eagle Lake in California. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Randy; a daughter, Sheila; and two half sisters. Survivors include two sons, Ralph "Gene" Jr. of Yuma, Ariz., and Gary of Hereford, Ariz.; two daughters, Sande Bryant of Woodstock, Ga., and Sherry Shreve of Sparks; two sisters, Josephine Schreibeis and June Gilkison, both of Sheridan; a brother, Robert Blevins of Sheridan; two sisters, Virginia Brosius of Lovell and Pat Rudolph of Gillette; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Memorial services for Sidney A. DeWitt, 90, of Sheridan will be 10 a.m. Friday at First Christian Church with the Rev. Douglas Goodwin officiating. Mr. DeWitt died March 11, 2008, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. He was born Jan. 30, 1918, in Heron Lake, Minn., to Elton and Nettie (Wallace) DeWitt. The family moved to the Hulett area when he was a child, and he grew up and attended schools there. He was a 1939 graduate of Hulett High School. He joined the Marines on June 9, 1941, and served in the Pacific Theater including New Caledonia, Guadalcanal, Redova, New Georgie, the Russell Islands, Guam and Pearl Harbor during World War II. He was honorably discharged Sept. 17, 1945, with the rank of corporal. He was involved in training Navajo Indians as Code Talkers during the war. He married Dorothy May Sams on Jan. 25, 1945, in Rapid City. After his military discharge, the family moved to Stanwood, where he was a maintenance man and, later, electrician. He eventually owned and operated his own business. Mrs. DeWitt died Aug. 19, 1983. Mr. DeWitt moved to the Recluse area in 1984. He worked on a ranch and delivered mail there before moving to Sheridan. He was a member of Cedarhome Baptist Church and attended First Christian Church in Sheridan. He enjoyed fishing and crossword puzzles. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son. Survivors include two daughters, Jayne of Bellingham, Wash., and Sharon of Lynnwood, Wash.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Vision Beyond Borders, P.O. She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, cooking and attending Concerts in the Park. She was preceded in death by her husband and siblings Mike, Joe, George, Paul, Johnny, Andy and Agnes Legoski. She was born Feb. 26, 1913, in Angelina County, Texas, to Robert and Artie Bessie Harris. She married William Finley on Dec. 27, 1930, in Lufkin, Texas. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and making clothes for herself and her daughters. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Thomas R. Finley; three brothers, James, Norman and Doyle Harris; and four sisters, Zeba Havercamp, Artie Lee, Faye Ballinger and Dora Mericle. Survivors include a son, Dr. John Finley, and a daughter, Virginia Melton, both of Sheridan; a sister, Nancy Tipton of Dayton; a brother, Joe Harris of Huntington, Texas; and two grandsons.

He was born Jan. 15, 1924, in Roundup, Mont., to Gilbert and Imogene (Mast) Jackson. The family moved to Sheridan when he was 6 years old, and he grew up and attended school here. He was a graduate of Sheridan High School. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years, then returned to Sheridan and worked as an electrician for Chauncey Bohnsack, Sheridan Electric City and Superior Laundry before beginning his own business with Jackson Electric. He later sold the business. He married Irene Dau on March 1, 1958. He was active in Boy Scouts, joining Friendly Indians in 1936. He was a Scout Master for Troops 105 and 117 from 1953-2005. He became district training chairman in 1974 and was a Vigil member of Order of the Arrow. He served on the Eagle board of review and was district representative scouting coordinator for Cub Pack 117. He received the Scout Masters Key & Training Award, the Silver Beaver Award in 1969, Frank Morgan Award Central Wyoming Council, the District Award of Merit and Lamb of God Award in 1985. He was the last surviving charter member of Troop 117. He had been a member of Trinity Lutheran Church since 1959, serving on the church council, evangelism committee and property committee, and helped organize the Sunday Funnies and Chums programs. He was preceded in death by a twin sister, Helen. Survivors include his wife; three sisters, Faye Symons and Carol Dau, both of Sheridan, and Shirley Snelling of Denver; and a brother, Kenneth of Honolulu. Pauline E. Horsley, 79, of Sheridan died March 10, 2008, in Sheridan Manor. Cremation has taken place, and no services are planned. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Horsley was born Feb. 22, 1929, in Detroit to Lawrence and Marie (Waldeck) Jones. She grew up and graduated from high school in Indiana and came to Sheridan in 1958. She worked for the Salvation Army Thrift Store for 30 years. She was preceded in death by a son, Jim Lindsey. Survivors include three sons, Larry, Clint and Jerry Lindsey, and a daughter, Karen Reinholt, all of Sheridan; two brothers, James Jones of Indiana and Paul Jones of Florida; and five grandchildren. Mrs. Burrows died March 6, 2008, in Lakewood, Colo. She was born Aug. 20, 1926, to Henry and Pearl (Nickols) Wheeler on the family homestead near Kim, Colo. She grew up and attended schools in southeastern Colorado. She married Floyd Burrows on May 5, 1945, in Pritchett, Colo. The family lived in Las Animas, Colo., until 1956, when it moved to Sheridan. Mrs. Burrows worked as a sales clerk for J.C. Penney for 19 years, retiring in 1988. Mr. Burrows died April 19, 1992. Mrs. Burrows was a member of First Baptist Church in Sheridan. She enjoyed sewing and crafts. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Don and Max. Survivors include two sons, Wayne of Thermopolis and Curtis of Sheridan; a daughter, Debbie Davis of Lakewood, Colo.; a brother, Ray Wheeler of Salida, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Former Sheridan resident Lydia Miller, 80, of Casper died Feb. 26, 2008, in Shepherd of the Valley Care Center in Casper. Miss Miller was born Dec. 14, 1927, in Hysham, Mont., to Jacob and Katherine (Zier) Miller. She was a 1935 graduate of Sheridan High School and a 1939 graduate of Eastern Montana Normal School. She taught five years in a one-room school in Montana, then worked as a telegraph operator for Western Union for 30 years. After retiring, she returned to Sheridan. She moved to Casper in 1999. A member of Trinity Lutheran Church, she enjoyed writing letters, reading, gardening and sewing. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Henry, Jack, Buck, George and Fred; and four sisters, Kate Marker, Mary Smith, Maybelle Martin and Edith Dvorak. Lifelong Buffalo resident Viola Harrington Vi Duncan, 92, died Feb. 26, 2008, in Johnson County Health Care Center. She was the mother of Dennis Duncan of Sheridan. She was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother. Sam Harry Mavrakis, 89, lifelong resident of Sheridan, died March 6, 2008, at the family residence of natural causes. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Name Catholic Church with the Revs. Doug Melius and Brian Johnson of First Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in the Elks Section of Sheridan Municipal Cemetery, followed by a reception luncheon at Lodore in Story. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Mavrakis was born June 18, 1918, in Monarch to Greek-immigrant parents Harry and Georgia Mavrakis. The family later moved to Sheridan, where Harry Mavrakis opened two nightclubs and, later, Bronx Billiards on North Main Street. Sam Mavrakis was a January 1937 graduate of Sheridan High School, where he played football, lettering for three years. He was an All-State selection as guard and was a Broncs Outstanding Player, Most Valuable Player and Honorary Captain. He attended Brigham Young University on a football scholarship and played four years of varsity football as guard. He was BYU All-American in 1941. He also was a member of the BYU varsity wrestling team for two years, losing only one match. He was inducted into the Army in January 1942, serving in the coast artillery and the Pacific Theater. He was a staff sergeant with the 6th Army's 211th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion, Battery B, commanding four gun crews. He was in battles in the Bismarck Archipelago, New Guinea, the South Philippines and the invasion of the Philippines. He received the Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater of Operations Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with four bronze stars and bronze arrowhead, the World War II Victory Medal with bronze star, and the Philippine Defense Ribbon and Medal with two bronze stars. He was honorably discharged in December 1945. After returning to Sheridan, Mr. Mavrakis helped his father and brothers open The Ritz Billiards at 135 N. Main St. He married Goldie Mae Williams in 1953. She died in 1980, and he married Lynn Borg Burnham in Sheridan in 1990. The Ritz became a sporting goods store, and Mr. Mavrakis received numerous recognitions and awards, including a commission as deputy game warden for Wyoming, the American Association of Conservation Information Award of Merit, and letters of commendation from U.S. Sens. Al Simpson and Malcolm Wallop for lifetime contributions to the Sheridan area and the state. Gov. Mike Sullivan declared June 16, 1988, Sam Mavrakis Day in Wyoming, citing Mr. Mavrakis' lifetime dedication to Wyoming and Sheridan citizens and the natural environment. The Sheridan City Council approved development of the Sam Mavrakis Fishing Pond in 1993, and Mr. Mavrakis was inducted into the 2006 Wyoming Outdoor Hall of Fame in September that year. In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Gus. Survivors include his wife; a son, Sam Paul of Banner; a daughter, Tami of Story; two stepsons, Stuart Burnham of Wilmington, N.C., and Chris Burnham of Chicago; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Lifelong Sheridan resident Alice J. Carnes, 78, died March 6, 2008, at her residence. Viewing will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Kane Funeral Home. She was a distributor of the Denver Post in the 1940s and early 1950s, taught Sunday school at the Open Bible Church, and was a Brownie Scout leader. She and her husband started the first motorcycle club in Sheridan in the 1950s. The couple built their home together, owned and operated two gas stations and built Carnes' Auto Repair on Broadway. They also operated Ideal Cleaners for 12 years. Mrs. Carnes cleaned doctors' clinics and other offices, sold Watkins Products for more than 40 years, was a bookkeeper, clerk and seamstress, raised beef, and was an in-home caregiver. She was preceded in death by her husband. Survivors include two sons, Kenneth R. of Glenrock and Troy of Sheridan; a daughter, Ginger Wallace of Sheridan; three sisters, Margaret Kathleen Dahle of Colorado, Mary Gallagher of Oregon, and Edith Carnes of California; a brother, Roger Krout of Sheridan; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She received her early education in a one-room schoolhouse, then attended The Masters School at Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. She graduated in 1954 from the University of Wyoming as a member of UW's first nursing class. She became a Registered Nurse in August 1954. She married Noel Justin Hicks on Jan. 4, 1957, in Boston. They were divorced. She married Erwin F. "Curley" Witzel on Aug. 18, 1966, in Sheridan. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Witzel trained horses and enjoyed riding, rodeo, swimming, photography and skiing. She studied art and music and became a master gardener. In 1994, she made a pilgrimage to Jerusalem and the Holy Land. She was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church and enjoyed tending the church's gardens. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, John. Survivors include a brother, John Merriman of Little River, Calif.; and a sister, Mary Howie Arena of Genoa, Italy. The family has asked that Mrs. Witzel's friends give flowers to each other and to her loved ones in her name.

Mr. Lecholat was born July 21, 1919, in Zastonyi, Ukraine, to Pavlo Bochno and Paroskevya Lecholat. He and his wife, Rosa, immigrated to Lincoln from Austria in 1952. A charter member of St. George Ukrainian Catholic Church, he was a lifelong jeweler and watch repairman, working for Steven's Jewelry from 1957 to 1973, Kaufman's Jewelry from 1973-1980, and City Clock until 1982, when he retired. He was preceded in death by his wife. Survivors include a son, Peter of Sheridan; a stepson, W.J. of Lincoln; three sisters, Eva, Anastazja and Paroskevya, all of Crimea, Ukraine; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He later worked for Roush Plumbing and Zowada Plumbing until 1983, when he retired. He married Mamie Tyler on Feb. 18, 1978, in Sheridan. He enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing. He was a member of Sheridan Elks Lodge 520. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia; two brothers, Joe and Bill; and a sister, Albenia Wolfe. Survivors include his wife; a stepson, Michael Carnley of Sheridan; two brothers, Ray and George, both of Sheridan; three sisters, Nellie Wolfe of Waskom, Texas, Francis Miech of Sheridan, and Florence Young of Decker, Mont.; and two step-grandchildren. Former Sheridan resident Ronald Edward Manseau, 64, of Hobbs, N.M., died Feb. 27, 2008, in Hobbs. Funeral services were this morning at First Christian Church in Hobbs. Arrangements were with May Funeral Home. Mr. Manseau was born March 27, 1943, in Deadwood, S.D., to Edward and Corrine Manseau. He married Linda Chism on Aug. 24, 1968, in Northside Baptist Church in Hobbs. He was a graduate of Western New Mexico University in Silver City. He was a stockbroker for Dean Witter in Sheridan from 1981-90, when the family moved to Hobbs and started a NAPA store. They sold the store in 1997, and Mr. Manseau returned to being a stockbroker at Merrill Lynch and, later, Edward Jones. He was a member of the Hobbs Shriners, Hobbs Masonic Lodge 63, Hobbs Rotary Club and Hobbs Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors. He enjoyed golf, camping, travel and hunting pheasants. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Mark of Hobbs and John of Omaha, Neb.; a daughter, Katy of Boulder, Colo.; and four grandchildren. Former Arvada resident Loy B. Finley, 77, of Florida and Washington state died Jan. 23, 2008, at the Little Rock (Ark.) Air Force Base while visiting his grandson. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Willow Grove Cemetery in Buffalo with the Rev. Tom Saur officiating. Arrangements are with Adams Funeral Home in Buffalo. Mr. Finley was born March 29, 1930, in Buffalo to Claude and Bessie Finley. He grew up and attended school in Arvada, until he moved to Billings to attend high school. He later worked on ranches in that area and competed in rodeos as a roper and saddle bronc rider. He married Beulah Blakeman on May 30, 1950. They made their home in Quietus and, later, St. Ignatius, Mont. They later bought the Mound Ranch in Clinton, British Columbia, Canada. They moved to Hot Springs, Mont., in 1973. He was a member of the Ropers Club in Clinton. After Mrs. Finley died in 2000, Mr. Finley alternated his time between Morriston, Fla., and Davenport, Wash., where he lived with two of his children. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Claudia, and a son, James Robert. Survivors include two sons, Casey and Patrick, both of Davenport; one daughter, Claudia Ortiz of Morriston; a brother, Ray of St. Ignatius; a sister, Wanda Blakeman of Hot Springs; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
BUFFALO Buffalo native Charles D. Maggard, 72, of Tulsa, Okla., died Feb. 29, 2008, in Tulsa. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated today at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Church in Tulsa. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Adams Funeral Home in Buffalo with the Rev. Pete Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Willow Grove Cemetery with graveside services. Funeral services for Bernice G. Kinter, 92, of Sheridan will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. William Heine officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Kinter died Feb. 27, 2008, in Westview Health Care Center. She was born June 18, 1915, in Davenport, Iowa, to Christian F. and Anna B. (Kostal) Gosch. The family moved to Great Falls, Mont., by covered wagon when she was 5. The family moved to Sheridan when she was 7, and she lived in this area for the rest of her life. She married Fredrick Charles Kinter on Jan. 25, 1932, in Hardin, Mont. She was past president of Navy Mothers and a member of Eagles Auxiliary and Immanuel Lutheran Church. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, cooking and baking, canning, spending time with her family, and travel. She was preceded in death by her husband and three children, Barbara Ann Schaffer, Alfred W. Kinter and Mary Janice Kinter. Survivors include a son, Christian F. of Cynthiana, Ky.; eight daughters, Karen Hans, Judy Kinter and Bernice DeLapp, all of Sheridan, Peggy Marker of Loveland, Colo., Norma Kinter of Tacoma, Wash., Evelyn Meyer of Skagway, Alaska, Georgia Manuel of Baxley, Ga., and Anna Bassett of Fort Collins, Colo.; three brothers, George Gosch of Flagstaff, Ariz., Chris Gosch of Florida, and William Gosch of Sheridan; a sister, Mary Ann Pitch of Hardin; 21 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
