Olive Josephine Larson, 97, of Buffalo died Saturday, March 28, 2009, at Amie Holt Care Center in Buffalo. Visitation is 1-9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Adams Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services are 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel with the Rev. Nancy Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in Willow Grove Cemetery with graveside services. Born Sept. 8, 1911, in Wynot, Neb., to Charles and Amelia (Sandberg) Swan, she grew up and attended school in Hartington, Neb., where she graduated from Hartington High School in 1929. After high school she worked at various jobs and married Roger Larson in 1932 in Clearwater, Neb. The couple resided in Clearwater until 1939, when they moved to Cheyenne. In 1945 they moved to Buffalo, where her husband was a barber. After her children were raised, Mrs. Larson worked for J.C. Penney Co. in Buffalo. Mr. Larson died in 1979 and she continued living in Buffalo. She had resided at Amie Holt Care Center for the past two and a half years. A member of Union Congregational Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, she also volunteered for Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed travel, playing bingo, going out to dinner, and spending time with her family. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Larry Larson; three brothers; and her twin sister. Survivors include one daughter, Laverna Epp of Hastings, Neb.; one son, Lanny Larson of Thornton, Colo.; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Helen Osgood-Jensen, 81, of Sheridan died Monday, March 23, 2009, at her son’s home in Camp Verde, Ariz. Memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. April 10 at Sheridan Wesleyan Church, 404 West Brundage Lane. Born Oct. 14, 1927, on the family farm near Ross, N.D., to Frank (Jr.) and Emma (Novacek) Slemin, she didn't learn English until she went to school, as Czech was spoken in her home. When she was 5, her father died. A few years later, the family moved to Ophemin, Mont. She graduated from Ophemin High School as valedictorian in 1945. She went on to get her teaching certificate and later a bachelor's degree in education from Montana State University in Missoula. In May 1954, she married Stanley G. Wittmayer in Glasgow, Mont. They were divorced. She married Vernon L. Osgood in June 1966 in Sheridan. He was a beekeeper and operated Osgood Honey. For 16 years of their retirement, the Osgoods lived in a motor home and traveled all over the United States working with the Mobile Missionary Assistance Program. Mr. Osgood died in an accident in June 2000. Mrs. Osgood was an avid reader, stamp and coin collector, and knitter. She also tatted and made hundreds of sweaters and afghans (most went to charities) and more than 300 baby caps for newborns at Glasgow Deaconess Hospital. In February 2003, she married Donald Jensen. He died of lung cancer five months later. Survivors include a son, David Wittmayer; daughters Laura Welty and Mr. Osgood’s four daughters; all of the Jensen children; two sisters, Mildred Kuykendall and Barbara Joan Gardner; a brother, San Ohanesian; 18 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Sheridan High School graduate Betty Lou Branscom, 74, of Osage died Saturday, March 21, 2009, in Rapid City Regional Hospital. Services were Saturday with interment in Greenwood Cemetery in Newcastle. Arrangements were with Worden Funeral Directors. Born Dec. 26, 1934, at the family ranch near Sayle, Mont., to Chalmers Frank and Katie Eglontine (Avery) McKenzie, she attended country school through the eighth grade at Billup School. During high school, she lived with her older sister, Darlene Griffin, and Griffin’s family in Sheridan, graduating from Sheridan High in 1952. After graduation, she moved to Osage to live with another sister. She married Ned E. Branscom of Osage on June 23, 1956, in Rapid City. They resided briefly in Oregon and worked as ranch hands. They also lived southeast of Upton, then moved to the Butte Pipeline Station at Osage, where Mr. Branscom worked for True for many years. In 1972, the couple purchased the Butcher ranch southwest of Osage. In 1983 they bought a place on Fiddler Creek. Mr. Branscom enjoyed team roping and Mrs. Branscom spent a lot of time working the chute in the arena at home for practice and traveling around the area with him to ropings. Mr. Branscom died in 1988. She continued to ranch and later purchased another ranch, also on Fiddler Creek, allowing her to increase the cattle herd she and her husband had started. She enjoyed doing “grandma things” with her grandchildren including attending school concerts and basketball games. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Darlene Griffin and Helen Long; and two brothers, Lloyd and James. Survivors include two sisters, Marion “Dolly” Sept and Bonnie McKenzie; three brothers, C.F. “Chub” Jr., Raynard and Wayne; one daughter, Fonda McFarlin of Fort Lupton, Colo.; and one son, Clay Branscom of the ranch at Osage; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Memorials may benefit Osage Volunteer Ambulance Service.
Dan Leibee, 73, of Buffalo died Friday, March 27, 2009, at Johnson County Healthcare Center, Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo with Mike Leibee officiating. Interment will be in Kearney, Neb. Born Dec. 14, 1935, in Kearney to Lloyd and Lindsay Leibee, he grew up there and was the starting quarterback for Kearney High School, where he also played basketball. He graduated in 1954. After high school he attended Kearney State College, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in business in 1958. He joined the Navy and was a fighter pilot aboard the aircraft carrier USS Ranger. During his military service, on June 5, 1966, he married Diana Dunklau in Wayne, Neb. The couple moved to Los Angeles for a brief period after he was hired by Western Airlines as a pilot and was on active reserve with the Navy at the same time. In 1968 they moved to Lakewood, Colo. Mr. Leibee flew Boeing 727s for Western Airlines (becoming Delta Airlines) until his retirement in 1996. In 1997 the couple moved to Buffalo. Mr. Leibee enjoyed playing pool, golf, fishing and spending time with friends. He was preceded in death by a brother. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jud Leibee of Orange County, Calif., and Jeff Leibee of Denver; and five grandchildren. Luciano Mike “Chano” Cortez, 70, of Buffalo died Saturday, March 28, 2009, at Johnson County Healthcare Center in Buffalo. Visitation is today from 1-9 p.m. and Tuesday from 8-9:30 a.m. at Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with private family interment at Willow Grove Cemetery. Born June 4, 1938, in Buffalo to Tony and Felipe Cortez, he grew up and attended school in Buffalo. After high school he became a trucker. He married Mary Lou Rader in 1956 in Buffalo, and they resided in Denver, where he continued driving trucks. After divorcing, he lived in Denver until 2000, when he returned to Buffalo to be near his mother. Mr. Cortez was known for helping others. He was preceded in death by a brother, Pete. Survivors include one son, Mike Cortez of Westminster, Colo.; a daughter, Pam Cortez-Baca of Arvada, Colo., and a second daughter whose name is unavailable; a brother, Tony Cortez of Casper; two sisters, Mickey Ridgeway of Denver and Julia Pierson of New Jersey; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Marc “Scoop” Kashnor, 57, of Story died Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at Johnson County Healthcare Center. Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Story Woman’s Club with the Rev. Tom Faulkner officiating. Interment will be at Quiet Rest Cemetery in Story with a reception to follow at the Woman’s Club. Mr. Kashnor was a resident of Story for the past 25 years. He was known for his intellect, wit and appreciation of bourbon “with just a little ice.” An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and was often accompanied by his faithful dog, Lucy. Born in Cambridge, Mass., he attended Cambridge High and Latin School and trained at the New England Conservatory of Music. After high school, he attended the Montserat Art School in Beverly, Mass.; the San Francisco Art Institute, where he received a bachelor’s degree in fine arts; San Francisco State, where he received a master’s degree in photography; and Boston University, where he received a master’s degree in photojournalism. He was a drummer with the Boston-based group Oral Lobotomy and played with various bands in the Sheridan area over the years. He exhibited photographs at various San Francisco galleries, at the Episcopal Theological School in Cambridge, and at the Ucross Foundation in Clearmont. In 1986, his work was featured in a special Sunday section on Wyoming artists in the Casper Star-Tribune. He worked as a reporter for the Buffalo Bulletin, the Casper Star-Tribune, the Sheridan Press, and Crazy Woman Enterprises. He is survived by a sister, Cynthia Kashnor of Cambridge. Gordon Otto “Pete” Telford, 79, of Sheridan died Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Billings. Cremation has taken place and services will be later. Arrangements are with Cremation and Funeral Gallery in Billings.

Alvin C. Jack Weaver, 81 of Sheridan died Thursday, March 19, 2009, at his home. Per his request, there will be no services. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Born Aug. 4, 1927, in Chicago to Harvey and Gladys (Dahl) Weaver, he was raised in Sheridan. After school, he spent 22 years with the Army engineers in Germany, Korea, Vietnam and the United States and won the Bronze Star. He married Margie Loretta Lange of Chicago on Feb. 17, 1949. In Mr. Weaver’s Army career, they were stationed at locations including Fort Sheridan in Illinois, Fort Ord in California and Heidelberg, Germany. He also served as a National Guard adviser in Casper and Powell. He retired from the service in 1967 and returned to Sheridan, where he raised his family. He worked at Cashway Lumber, N.O. Nelson Co. (plumbing) and Decker Coal retiring in 1983. He rode in the Sheridan County Rodeo Parade for more than 30 years with his family and friends. Along with riding, he loved horses, restoring classic vehicles, and collecting memorabilia. He was known for being able to fix anything and for always having a great story. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Harvey “Curly” Weaver, Lawrence “Ace” Weaver, Clark “Dusty” Weaver, and a sister, Joan Weaver. Survivors include his wife; five children, Margie Ingalls of Sheridan, Billie Abee of Plainwell, Mich., Peggy Cox of Gillette, and Jack Weaver and Frank Weaver of Sheridan; a brother, Dennis Pensis of Sheridan; a sister, Joy Foldenauer of Sheridan; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Bernard James Marron, 92, of Sheridan died Sunday, March 22, 2009, at Sheridan VA Medical Center. Cremation has taken place. Vigil service will be 7 p.m. Thursday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Former Sheridan resident Thomas McBrayer, 57, died Saturday, March 21, 2009, at Campbell County Memorial Hospital of lung cancer, according to family. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 610 S. Kendrick Ave., in Gillette. Born Aug. 1, 1951, in Alhambra, Calif., to Ivan and Catherine McBrayer, he moved with his family to Sturgis, S.D., in 1963. He married Katie Wilsey on Dec. 27, 1972. She died in 1979 in a motorcycle accident. Mr. McBrayer enjoyed spending time with his friends, family and riding his Harley-Davidson. Survivors include two daughters, Janelle Iddings of Sheridan and Shauna Gilkey of Gillette; two brothers, Skip McBrayer of Cheyenne and Dennis McBrayer of Piedmont, S.D.; a sister, Margie McBrayer of Sturgis; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Sheridan-native Janice Marie Miller, 46, of Elma, Wash., died Friday, March 13, 2009, in Elma. Funeral services were March 23 in Elma. She was born Aug. 8, 1962, in Sheridan to Junior and Juanita Lucille (Varner) Miller. A homemaker, she enjoyed spending time with her family, crocheting, sewing, watching wrestling, and playing bingo at the Elma Eagles. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Jeffrey Miller. Survivors include her husband, Chuck Binkley; a daughter, Juanita Miller of Elma; a son, Joshua Miller of Aberdeen, Wash.; a brother, James Miller of Sheridan; a half brother, Jack Miller of Sheridan; two half sisters, Judy Miller and Linda Vallejo of Sheridan; and three grandchildren. Leona Berdean Brendefur, 69, of Sheridan died Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at her home. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Phil Wold officiating. Inurnment of cremains will be in the church columbarium. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Born Nov. 16, 1939, in Flaxton, N.D., to Aage and Clara (Kostad) Christiansen, she grew up on the family farm and after high school attended First Interstate Business School in Fargo, N.D. She married Lloyd Brendefur on May 18, 1963, in Flaxton. They moved to Sheridan in 1979, where she worked as a bookkeeper for Dr. Frisbie and then as manager of Citco Credit Union. In 1989 they moved to Billings, where she was office manager for Midas. They returned to Sheridan in 1999 after she retired. An active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Mrs. Brendefur spent many winters in Arizona. She loved finance, putting puzzles together, playing dominos, and spending time with friends and family. Survivors include her husband; four children, Brenda Henderson, Noel Brendefur, Jonathan Brendefur, and Holly Brandon; a sister, Donnaleen; two brothers, Melvin and Lowell; 12 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Leonard Robert Stenseng, 86, of Buffalo died Sunday, March 22, 2009, at Lutheran Hospital in Wheat Ridge, Colo. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. Friday at Adams Funeral Home, Buffalo. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home chapel with Pastor Tom Saur officiating. A military graveside service will follow at Willow Grove Cemetery. Born April 9, 1922, in Albert Lea, Minn., to Hans C. and Lena M. Stenseng, he moved with his family during the Depression to several locations in North Dakota and Minnesota. He graduated from high school in Breckenridge, Minn., and worked in a grocery store, managed a produce store, and clerked in a clothing store. He entered the U.S. Army in 1942 and served in France, Austria, and Germany during World War II as a radio operator, achieving the rank of staff sergeant. After the war he attended the Ray Art School for four years, studying sign painting and commercial art. Upon completion of his schooling, he opened his own sign business in the Chicago area. In 1951 he married Betty Sorem of Chicago, and together they ran the family business. In 1972 they moved their family to Buffalo, where they continued their business until retiring. Mr. Stenseng was known as an excellent craftsman, an honest businessman, and a good friend and neighbor. He was preceded in death by his wife; five siblings; and a grandson. Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Stenseng of Arvada, Colo.; a son, Lee Stenseng of Miles City, Mont.; and a grandson. Ella M. Hood, 87, of Sheridan died Friday, March 20, 2009, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Doug Goodwin officiating. Services in Torrington will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Colyer Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Valley View Cemetery in Torrington next to her husband. Born July 11, 1921, in Clay Center, Neb., to Jacob and Mary Lissman, she married Omer Hood in Harrisburg, Neb., on Feb. 16, 1939. They farmed in the Huntley area, and Mrs. Hood worked as a food supervisor at the hospital in Torrington. After her husband’s death, she moved to Lyman, Neb., and worked as a foster grandparent at Head Start and as a part-time librarian. She moved to Sheridan in 1998 and worked at Carroll’s Furniture. She enjoyed going to the Sheridan Senior Center, attending exercise classes and carrying food trays for those who couldn’t. She also enjoyed reading and watching “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy!” TV game shows. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Richard; four brothers, John, George, Earl, and Albert; a sister, Katherine; and a great-grandson. Survivors include four children, Helen Peterson of Casper, Barbara England of Beulah, N.D., Linda Nordgaard of Lake Park, Minn., and Mike Hood of Sheridan; three sisters, Edna Hort of Lyman, Irene Weinmaster of Freewater, Ore., and Frances Francisco of Lyman; 14 grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren. Susan Oeland Boedeker, 70, mother of Sheridan resident Dale Boedeker, died Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at her home in Lander. Funeral services were March 6 in Lander at Hudson’s Funeral Home with burial at Mount Hope Cemetery. Born Nov. 11, 1938, in Salt Lake City to Art and Ann Oeland, she lived most of her life in Lander. She graduated from Fremont County Vocational High School and studied at the University of Wyoming. She was employed in the secretarial field and worked for several Lander businesses including radio station KOVE, the Fremont County clerk’s office, and prior to retirement, the Richard D. Gist law firm. She enjoyed flowers, angels, fairies, politics, Eastern Star, chili, and most of all, her family. She was preceded in death by her husband. In addition to her son, survivors include a sister, Betty Kail; two granddaughters; a nephew; and two grandnieces. Sheridan native Phyllis Yvonne (Phillips) Vanatta, 73, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, in Tucson, Ariz. A private service was Feb. 28 in Tucson. A service is planned in Buffalo this summer. Born Sept. 28, 1935, in Sheridan to Bonita (Larke) and John R. Phillips, she graduated from Sheridan High School in 1953. She worked at Woolworth's and eventually at Mountain Bell Telephone as an operator. She married Joe Vanatta II of Sheridan in 1956. She lived in Sheridan until 1974, then moved to Oregon. Several years later she moved to Spokane, Wash., and continued her career as a secretary. She eventually retired to Tucson. An avid reader of romance novels, she enjoyed working crossword puzzles and watching cooking shows, animal shows and nighttime TV dramas. She was known as an outstanding cook and especially enjoyed creating holiday sweets. Survivors include three sons, Joe Vanatta III of Sandpoint, Idaho, Hal Vanatta of Baypoint, Calif., and Bret Vanatta of Tucson; a sister, Sandra Lewellen of Spokane; a brother, John (Randy) Phillips of Gig Harbor, Wash.; and two grandchildren. Hazel Ann Rotolo, 61, of Ranchester died Tuesday, March 17, 2009, in her home. A memorial gathering will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Big Horn Mountain Eagles 4169. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Born Aug. 21, 1947, on the family farm near Parshall, N.D., to Harold and Ora (Howie) Maurer, she came to Sheridan in the late 1950s. She held a number of jobs in this area and retired from the Sheridan VA Medical Center canteen. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, the mountains, photography, reading, crafts, gambling, playing pool, bingo and helping the 7th Cavalry Drum and Bugle Corps. She was known for enjoying life to the fullest and her generous and caring personality. She was preceded in death by her husband, Julio Rotolo, and a sister, Janet. Survivors include a son, Shane Roe; a daughter, Dana Wilhelm; three brothers, Jim and John Maurer and Sonny Richards; two sisters, Connie Mairs and Helen Deutsch; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews. Debra M. Sell, 47, of Sheridan died Tuesday, March 17, 2009, in her home.
Private services will be later. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.
Born April 30, 1961, in Sheridan to Jack and Doris (Hewitt) Ennis, she grew up and attended schools in Sheridan.
She moved to Sundance, where she worked as a waitress and bartender.
She married Lonnie Sell in the spring of 1985.
She moved to Belle Fourche, S.D., where she was a clerk at the Piggly Wiggly and volunteered with the Make-a-Wish Foundation.
In 1995, she moved to Minnesota and ranched until she returned to Sheridan. She drove over-the-road semis, later working at Shipton’s Big R store.
She met her companion, Steve Scheutte, in February 2006, and they lived on the ranch east of Sheridan.
She enjoyed horseback riding, flowers, snowmobiling, four-wheeling, animals and being outdoors on the ranch.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Survivors include a son, Colton of Ranchester; a daughter, Dody Moore of Ranchester; her mother of Livingston, Mont.; two sisters, Carole Carey and Janine Stevenson of Livingston; and four grandchildren.

Kane Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Born May 8, 1938, to Henry and Josephine Love at Fort Francis E. Warren in Cheyenne, she graduated from Burlingame (Calif.) High School. She married Roy Sharp in Sheridan on Feb. 17, 1968. Mrs. Sharp worked as dental assistant in Cheyenne and for nine years as a medical transcriptionist at Sheridan Memorial Hospital, retiring in 2000. She enjoyed crafts and won several awards in counted cross-stitch and quilting. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, sewing, gardening, cooking, hunting, fishing, camping, and was active in Philanthropic Educational Organization. Thelma Johnston, 84, of Sheridan, died Saturday, March 14, 2009, at Westview Health Care Center. Memorial services are 10 a.m. Monday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. John Jackson officiating. Born July 17, 1924, on her father’s homestead in Powder River County, Mont., to Levi and Iva Christine Seamster, she married Wayne Bloxom at the age of 16. Mr. Bloxom died during World War II in the Philippines. In 1946, she married Mansel Johnston, and they lived on the Johnston Ranch most of their lives. They owned and operated the Decker (Mont.) Bar from 1969 to 1978. Mrs. Johnston also operated Thelma’s Café from 1962 to 1966. She was a member of the Cattle Women’s Association, a founding member of BPOE Does, and a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles 186. She enjoyed cooking and hosted many Christmas dinners. She was a two-time cancer survivor. Her second husband also preceded her in death. Survivors include three sons, Don Bloxom and Mansel Jr., both of Dayton, and Art of Cody; a daughter, Linda Johnston Howe of Sheridan; a brother, Robert Seamster; a sister Cathy Gray; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Sheridan native James W. Howell, M.D., 62, of Denver died Sunday, March 15, 2009, in Denver. Sheridan native Francis Theodore “Ted” Logan, 64, of Rapid City died Saturday, March 14, 2009, in Rapid City. Services with military honors were Wednesday at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, S.D. Born Sept. 26, 1944, in Sheridan, he spent his childhood on the Rafter 33 Ranch in Big Horn and graduated from Big Horn High School in 1962. He attended Rocky Mountain College in Billings and then the University of Wyoming, where he received a bachelor’s and a master’s degree. He worked 34 years for the Bureau of Land Management and as an Internal Revenue Service agent and instructor. An Eagle Scout, Vietnam veteran, and American Legion member, he was known for his humorous drawings, paintings, and prose. Sheridan native Kathleen A Legerski, 79, of Casper died Monday, March 16, 2009, at Central Wyoming Hospice in Casper. She owned and operated the Raven's Nest antique store until retiring in 2005. She enjoyed knitting, travel and helping others. Charles “Ed” Worden, 89, of Sheridan died Sunday, March 15, 2009, at Sheridan Manor. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Friday at Kane Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Masonic 8 Cemetery. Born Nov. 4, 1919, to Charles and Ruth (Blackney) Worden, he was raised in Edgemont, S.D., and graduated from high school in 1937. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served two years. He then worked as a baker for a few years before re-enlisting in the Air Force in 1941. His first assignment was to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, where he was present during the Japanese attack Dec. 7, 1941. He was also stationed in Puerto Rico, Morocco, and Africa before retiring in 1966 from Vandenberg AFB, Calif., where his last assignment was head of combat defense. After retirement from the Air Force, he obtained his teaching credential and taught math and shop at Rio del Valle High School in Oxnard, Calif., retiring in 1980 to Sheridan. He was active in Masonic lodges, Shrine clubs, Toastmasters, and the Elks Lodge. He enjoyed carpentry of any kind, reading, painting, and playing the saxophone. He served as grand exalted ruler of Sheridan Elks Lodge 520 and president of the Wyoming Elks. He was proud of bringing to Sheridan the idea of the Sheridan Elks Youth Rodeo after seeing a similar program in California. He was preceded in death by a brother, Keith of Sheridan; a grandson; and a son, Michael Worden. Survivors include his wife, Bernice; two daughters, Drina Yost of Minnesota and Katheryn Holicky of California; three stepchildren, Marsha Neeriemer and Don Norskog of Sheridan and Tony Norskog of Boise, Idaho; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. six brothers, John, Steve, Joe, Martin, Mike, and Andy; and two sisters, Val

Belus of Buffalo; two sisters, Ann Ballek of Columbus, Mont., and Mary St. Luke

great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by five siblings, Victoria Hughes,
Chester Monik, Louis Monik, Lorraine Petro, and Clarence Monik. Survivors

John Robert Pruss, 66, of Oshoto, died Thursday, March 12,
2009, at Sheridan VA Medical Center. Funeral services are 2 p.m. March 21 at
Adams Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Arden Haeffner officiating. Interment will follow in Willow Grove
Cemetery with military rites by American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Born
Sept. 7, 1942, in Buffalo to Donald and Katherine Pruss, he grew up and
received his education in Kaycee. After high school he joined the Army and
served in Germany. After the Army he returned to Wyoming, where he was a fence
contractor.
He married Irene Proctor on Aug. 18, 1972, in Casper, and they resided in Casper. In 1992 they moved to Hulett, and Mr. Pruss worked at Black Thunder Mine in Gillette. In 2001 he bought a truck and went into business for himself hauling water in the methane fields. In 2003 they moved to Baggs. Ill health forced him to retire, and they spent several months in Blackfoot, Idaho, and moved in 2008 to Oshoto, where he lived until the time of his death. An avid hunter, fisherman, and football fan, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael, in 2000. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Bill Proctor of Lusk and Rob Pruss of Blackfoot, Idaho; three brothers, David Pruss and Phillip Pruss of Gillette and Raymond Pruss of Mesa, Ariz.; one sister, Donna Hamilton of Casper; and five grandchildren. Sheridan native Susan Helvey Nesson, 62, died Monday, March 9, 2009, at her home near Wheatland. Born Jan. 30, 1947, in Sheridan to Robert and Mary (Williams) Helvey, she lived a number of years in Plano, Texas, where she worked for the city, serving as deputy city clerk, city clerk and two terms as mayor. She was a member of Plano Christian Church, where she was pianist and organist. During her time in Wheatland, she was a member of Platte Animal Welfare Services, Royal Neighbors Association and Project Safe, where she served on the board of directors and as finance director. She was also a member and organist of First Christian Church of Wheatland. Survivors include a sister, Ann Holland; three daughters, Julie Van Dover of Big Lake, Minn., Erika Stoker of Sugar Grove, Ill., and Abby Alvarez of Plano; and eight grandchildren. Hollis Gertrude Crowe, 96, of Buffalo, died Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at Amie Holt Care Center in Buffalo.
Graveside service is 1 p.m. Wednesday at Willow Grove Cemetery in Buffalo.
Born April 10, 1912, in Boulder, Colo., to E.C. and Blanche (Hastings) Swallow, she moved with her family in 1921 to Casper, where she graduated from Natrona County High School.
She met Harvey Crowe while attending First Christian Church, and the couple were married Dec. 4, 1934, in Scottsbluff, Neb. They moved to Oregon, where Mr. Crowe taught school in Corvallis and Brownsville. The couple later moved to Wheatland, where Mrs. Crowe played piano briefly in a dance band.
The family moved in 1948 to Buffalo, where Mr. Crowe taught and coached. They moved to Sundance in 1956 and to Lance Creek in 1962.
Following Mr. Crowe’s retirement in 1973, they returned to Buffalo, where she continued to live after her husband died in 1981.
Mrs. Crowe began playing the piano at age 10 and often accompanied her father and others in church. She was involved with music programs in the schools where her husband taught.
She enjoyed taking trips with family and at age 89 traveled to England and Scotland to visit family. She shared her love of music with several generations as she played for, and with, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Gene and Laurence Swallow, and three sisters, Naomi Howard, Leona McKin and Lois Watson.
Survivors include a sister, Winnie Allan of Casper; three sons, Harv and Bob of Buffalo and Mike of Torrington; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He married Agnes Pittz on June 17, 1959, in Mineral Point, Wis. Mr. Myers worked at his brother’s gas station in Wisconsin before joining Barneveld Motors for 10 years as a car salesman, then owner. He moved to Wyoming in 1982 and worked for Nelson Chrysler in Cody for six months, then moved to Story and worked at the Chrysler dealership in Buffalo. He later owned and operated the Wagon Box Supper Club and Lodge in Story. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, hunting and cars. He was a member of Our Lady of the Pines Catholic Church in Story. He was preceded in death by two sons, Scott Myers and Kevin Myers; and two brothers, Thane Myers and Joe Myers. James Marshall Young, 83, of Buffalo, died Friday, March 6, 2009, at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper. Services are 2 p.m. today at Adams Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Nancy Brooks officiating. Burial will be in Willow Grove Cemetery with the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars in charge of military graveside services. Born Feb. 11, 1926, in Buffalo to Marvin and Belle Young, he grew up and attended school in Johnson County, graduating from Johnson County High School in 1944. In June 1944 he joined the Navy and was stationed in the Pacific Theater until June 1946. After the war he returned to Wyoming, where he attended the University of Wyoming and worked as a game warden. He later joined his father in the ranching business south of Buffalo. He married Phyllis Davis in 1947, and they made their home in Buffalo. They divorced in 1959. He married Ella Mark, and they continued to live on the family homestead. In 1966 they sold the ranch south of Buffalo and bought a ranch in Natrona County south of Kaycee, where they continued in the ranching business until 1977. Mr. Young was elected mayor of Kaycee and acted as chief of police as well as city maintenance man. In 1982 the couple moved back to Buffalo, where he helped establish Mr. R’s Auto Salvage and worked as a bookkeeper for Pert’s Towing. For the last two years, he worked on the grounds crew at Buffalo Golf Club. He was a member of Anchor Lodge No. 7 AF & AM for more than 50 years and also of American Legion Post 13 and its honor guard. He enjoyed computers and was interested in family genealogy. An avid golfer, he was a loyal fan of Buffalo Bison athletics, especially Bison basketball. He was preceded in death by two brothers. Survivors include his wife; one son, Dave Young of Billings; three daughters, Michele Schluter of Parkman, Edna Young of Buffalo, and Jane Diane Young Navarrette of Buffalo; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Donald Wilson Gossick, 78, of Buffalo died Saturday, March 7, 2009, at Johnson County Healthcare Center in Buffalo. Private family services will be later. Born March 22, 1930, in Fairfield, Iowa, to Charles and Edith Gossick, he grew up and attended school in Fairfield and graduated from Fairfield High School in 1948. He married Shirley Dunnock on June 6, 1948. The couple went to Colorado Springs, Colo., on their honeymoon and decided to stay. Mr. Gossick worked in a bakery for more than a year before returning to Fairfield, where he managed several department stores. In 1958, he earned a pilot’s license and became a commercial pilot. In 1968 the couple moved to Florida and bought Avon Park Flying Service Inc., which they operated until 1985 when he retired. They moved to Buffalo in 1986 and purchased land on Hazelton, where they built a cabin. They lived in the cabin and also had a home in Florida. In 1997, they permanently moved to Buffalo. Mr. Gossick was an avid gun collector and a member of the National Rifle Association and the Single Action Shooters Association. He enjoyed playing the trumpet and particularly enjoyed Dixieland music. He also enjoyed the mountains and spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Mark Gossick of Peoria, Ill., and Charles Gossick of Avon Park, Fla.; one daughter, Laura Lawson of Winter Haven, Fla.; one brother, John Gossick of Pontiac, Mich.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Russell C. Hart Jr., 61, of Sheridan died Thursday, March 5, 2009, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Memorial service is 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church with the Rev. Doug Goodwin officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Born April 25, 1947, in Sheridan to Russell C. and Juanita (Bliss) Hart Sr., he grew up and attended schools in Sheridan. He married Penny Logan in Colorado in 1970. She died in August 2002. In 2004 he married Rhonda Schnaible in Sheridan. Mr. Hart worked on ranches and in construction until going to work for the city of Sheridan, where he was employed for more than 30 years and retired as city street supervisor. He was a member of Sheridan Elk's Lodge 520 and attended First Christian Church in Sheridan. He enjoyed working with his hands and it was said he could fix or repair almost anything. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing in the Big Horn Mountains with friends and family. In addition to his first wife, a granddaughter preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jeremy Hart of Fort Riley, Kan., and Jason Hart of Sheridan; one daughter, Jennifer Hart of Billings; three brothers, Bob Swanson of Nisland, S.D., Lloyd Hart of Banner, and Keith Hart of Metolius, Ore.; three sisters, Ethel Willms of Sheridan, Roberta Burtis of Sheridan, and Becky Haeffelin, of Maupin, Ore.; and six grandchildren. Kenneth A. Kane, 75, of Sheridan, died Saturday, March 7, 2009, in Phoenix. Per his request, cremation has taken place and memorial services will be later. Kane Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Former Sheridan resident Arnold C. Becker, 97, died Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at his home in Riverton.
A viewing will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Kane Funeral Home. Services are 2 p.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sheridan. Burial will follow at Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 7.
Born in Vedigre, Neb., the son of Armnius M. Becker and Louisa (Koeppe) Becker, he lived in Riverton for 16 years and Sheridan for 44 years. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II and was an anti-aircraft gunner in the German Theater.
He married Doris Marie Eckley on Jan. 29, 1945, in Fort Logan, Colo. She died June 9, 1989.
Mr. Becker was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sheridan, where he was an elder. He was a self-employed trucker and owned Becker Trucking.
He hauled the second load of uranium out of the Gas Hills and had been employed by Peter Kiewitt, Gilpatrick Construction and McGarvin-Moberly. He also helped build roads into the missile silos in Cheyenne, and had worked all the interstate highways in Wyoming. He held a valid commercial driver’s license until age 92.
He enjoyed fishing and snowmobiling and was a member of the Lake DeSmet Boat Club.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by 12 siblings and a daughter, Peggy Lynn Becker.
Survivors include two sons, Dave Becker of Riverton and Tony Becker of Grand Junction, Colo.; two daughters, Dixie Loper of Ashland, Ore., and Patricia Sellars of Sweet Home, Ore.; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Thelma C. Huff, 93, of Sheridan, died Tuesday, March 3, 2009, in Westview Health Care Center. Cremation has taken place and graveside services will be later. She was born Dec. 24, 1915, in Moorcroft to Louis and Faye (Ely) Ponson, early day homesteaders on the Belle Fourche River and on Four Horse Creek in Crook County. She attended Moorcroft schools and married David Huff of Upton on Oct. 3, 1932, in Deadwood, S.D. They resided in Upton until moving to the Banner Ranch at Banner in 1951. They continued to live at Banner until 2002, when they moved to Sheridan. Mrs. Huff was a homemaker all her life. A member of Story Garden Club and American Legion Auxiliary, she enjoyed flowers and yard work. She was preceded in death by her husband of 75 years; one brother; and three sisters, including her twin, Wilma. Survivors include one son, Robert Huff of Sheridan; one daughter, Winnie Borgialli of Buffalo; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-granddaughters. Robert G. Miller, 66, of Banner, died Wednesday, March 4, 2009, in Westview Health Care Center. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with John Krezelok officiating. Interment will be private in Mount Hope Cemetery in Big Horn. Military rites are by the American Legion and Wyoming National Guard. Born June 3, 1942, in Sheridan to Robert and Peggy (Townsend) Miller, he grew up and graduated from high school in Sheridan. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Coral Sea stationed in Okinawa as a jet engine mechanic. After the service, he returned to the family ranch near Sheridan. He married Mary Zowada on April 4, 1964, in Sheridan. They lived on the ranch and owned and operated Miller Cattle Co. on Piney Creek. They retired in 1999 and moved to Murphy Gulch. Mrs. Miller died in October. Mr. Miller enjoyed four-wheeling, camping, fishing, and hunting in the mountains. He also enjoyed flying remote-controlled airplanes with one grandson and watching the other play football for Big Horn Rams. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Bovee. Survivors include two daughters, Lori Miller of Sheridan and Chris Browning of Gillette; and two grandsons. Wilbur “Wes” Bryant, 78, of Sheridan died Monday, March 2,
2009, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Cremation has taken place and no services
are planned. Kane Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Born Sept. 2,
1930, in Lusk to John and Joyce Bryant, he worked many years as a carpenter in
the coal mining industry. He lived in Gillette before moving to Sheridan. Mr.
Bryant enjoyed woodworking, reading and was an active member in the Moose
Lodge. He was preceded in death by a son, Jeff Bryant. Survivors include two
children, Jay Bryant of Austin, Texas, and Jan Hanten of Gillette; two
siblings, James Bryant and Audra Bryant; two grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren.
Former Sheridan County teacher Myra Spellman, 91, of Spotted Horse, died Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Gillette. Funeral services are 2 p.m. today at Gillette Memorial Chapel with Pastor Peggy Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Pisgah Cemetery. Born March 4, 1917, in Capa, S.D., to Joseph and Bessie (Gleason) Tanner, she moved in 1929 to Middle Prong in Campbell County, where the family homesteaded. She attended country schools in South Dakota and Upper Middle Prong in Wyoming and high school in Arvada. She graduated from Gillette High School, her last year combined with Normal School training. She attended Black Hills State College in Spearfish, S.D., and the University of Wyoming. She taught in country schools including South Prong and Spotted Horse in Campbell County and Kendrick, Passaic and Buffalo Creek in Sheridan County. She married Howard “Jim” Spellman on March 5, 1938, at First Christian Church in Sheridan. They worked to expand their ranch near Spotted Horse. Mrs. Spellman enjoyed animals, nature and the outdoors. She belonged to 4-G Ladies Club, Pleasant Hour Ladies Club, Campbell County Historical Society and the Rockpile Museum. She helped raise money to start the Campbell County Senior Center and worked on the Wyoming Centennial Committee for Campbell County. She contributed to the history books “The Wheel of Time,” about Arvada and surrounding areas, and “The Treasured Years,” about Campbell County. She helped develop the Lasting Legacy Park in Gillette. She had several poems, stories and musical lyrics published and earned ribbons and awards for artwork and ceramics at county and state fairs. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Willard “Bill” and Arol “Joe” Tanner; and a sister, Clara Smallwood. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Bobby Joe Spellman of Arvada and Don Spellman of Spotted Horse; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Former Sheridan VA Medical Center employee Harriett Bosley, 86 of Sioux Falls, S.D., died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2009, at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. today at Zion Lutheran Church with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation was Sunday at Heritage Funeral Home.
Born Sept. 6, 1922, to Paul and Edna Winckler in Pierre, S.D., she grew up in Pierre and was a member of the Augustana College class of 1944. She trained at the Corwin Nursing School in Pueblo, Colo., and also worked at the Dallas VA Medical Center.
She married Harold W. Bosley of Sheridan in 1946.
Mrs. Bosley was devoted to nursing and helping veterans regain their health.
She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, worked with the Wyoming Girl Scouts, and enjoyed camping, walking in the Big Horn Mountains, and playing bridge and mahjong.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Winckler of Littleton, Colo., and Lewis Winckler of Sioux Falls.
Survivors include two sons, James Bosley, Sioux Falls, and John Bosley, Sheridan; two sisters, Bernice Haugejonde, Iowa City, Iowa, and Marian Grider, Kingwood, Texas; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and 10 nieces and nephews.

Dr. Laura Lee “Muggy” Polster Clifford, 38, died Monday, Feb. 23, 2009, at South Big Horn County Critical Access Hospital in Basin. She graduated from Sheridan High School in 1989 and worked as an optometrist. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, 3179 Big Horn Ave. in Sheridan, followed by a reception in the church foyer. Born Oct. 30, 1970, in Logan, Utah, to John James “Jack” and Sandra Lee (Hanft) Polster, she attended Sheridan schools and received her Associate of Science degree from Sheridan College in 1991. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1993 from the University of Wyoming and graduated with honors from Pacific University in Forest Grove, Ore., with a Doctor of Optometry degree in 1997. She worked for various optometry practices throughout the region, finally owning and operating SE Montana Eyecare in Forsyth and Colstrip, Mont. Her latest employment was through TLC Laser Vision Correction Center in Billings and Clear Image Vision Care in Worland. She was a member of the Wyoming Optometric Association, American Optometric Association, Montana Optometric Association (where she was on the board), and an executive for TLC. She married Todd Clifford on April 17, 2007, in Absarokee, Mont., and they resided in Basin, where they owned and operated Valley Hardware. Mrs. Clifford was known as a talented woman with a love for life who enjoyed any outdoor activity, helping others, her Boston terriers, and crafting. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, John E. Hanft of Dayton; her paternal grandparents, James A. and Donna E. Polster of Sturgeon Bay, Wis.; and an uncle. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Johnna Lee Clifford of Basin; two sons, Avery John Clifford of Basin and Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Dana Neal Clifford of Forsyth; her parents, Sandra and Fred Prunty of Sheridan and Jack Polster of Homer, Alaska; a sister, Marsha Lee Sano of Windsor, Colo.; a brother, Keith Prunty of Fargo, N.D.; two grandmothers, Helen Lee Hanft of Dayton and Elenita Prunty of Sheridan; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Dorothy Mae Warburton, 86, Buffalo, died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2009, at Johnson County Healthcare Center. Funeral service is 2 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church in Buffalo with the Revs. Sue DeBree and Connie Cranston officiating. Born Aug. 25, 1922, to John W. and Irene A. Gant in Hurffville, N.J., she grew up on the family dairy farm helping with chores and cooking for the hired hands. She graduated from Glassboro, N.J., High School in 1939. The farm was sold in 1946 and she worked in a sewing machine factory for the following three years. She also worked for Wye Corp. (Maryland Credit) until 1952. She resigned from her job and moved to Wyoming in August 1952. She married Robert H. Warburton on Aug. 22, 1952, in Clearmont. She helped her husband with his wrecker service and tree-trimming business. She was PTA president and volunteered at the grade school. She went to work as a secretary at the Buffalo Grade School on May 1, 1955, and worked there 14 years before transferring to the school administration office. She was bookkeeper for the school district for 18 years and retired in 1987. She also cared for her mother, who died in 1983. Mrs. Warburton was active in the church and was financial secretary for many years. She served on many committees, was involved in Stephen’s Ministry, sang with and played for the Saturday Singers, and was a treasurer of United Methodist Women. She also was organist at the Methodist Church for 26 years. She enjoyed preparing meals and baking for family and friends. In 2001 she began knitting sweaters for the Guidepost “Knit for Kids” program. She completed 494 sweaters, the last one while in the hospital. She was preceded in death by a brother, John Carlton (Mike) Gant, and a sister, Frances Lilly Gant. Survivors include a daughter, Frances Colby of Laramie, and two grandchildren.
