Don Foltz, 79, of Sheridan died Monday, May 24, 2004, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at Kane Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday in Holy Name Catholic Church with the Rev. Ron Stolcis officiating. Burial will be Tuesday in Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, S.D. Mr. Foltz was born Jan. 13, 1925, in Upton to William and Mildred (Ashmore) Foltz. He married Anna Lucille Titus Feb. 27, 1947, in Buffalo. He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by two sons, Bill and Jim, and a brother, Ralph. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mary Beth Kiger of Palo Cedro, Calif., and Madelon Kuchera of Chicago; two sons, Peter of Livingston, Mont., and Edward of Sheridan; a sister, Ruth Giffin of Newcastle; and five grandchildren. Oriel States, 88, of Sheridan died Thursday, May 27, 2004, in Sheridan Manor. Visitation will be 2-6 p.m. Tuesday at Kane Funeral Home. Former Sheridan resident Samuel Dale Bennett, 95, died Friday, May 28, 2004, in the Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Gillette. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Blanche Beck Memorial Chapel of Pioneer Manor Nursing Home with Pastor James McConnel of Gillette Episcopal Church officiating. Visitation will be at 9 a.m. in the Blanche Beck Memorial Chapel. A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Sheridan Elks Cemetery. Arrangements are with Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home of Gillette. Mr. Bennett was born Aug. 18, 1908, in Newcastle to James and Sara (Procunier) Bennett. The family moved to a homestead, now known as Sleepy Hollow, southeast of Gillette when he was a child. He grew up and was educated in Gillette. He married Ivalee Coy Osborn Nov. 25, 1935, in Spearfish, S.D. He worked for the state highway department and the city of Gillette from 1941 until 1949, when he began working for the CB&Q Railroad. His job with the railroad brought him to Sheridan. Mrs. Bennett died in the mid-1970s, and Mr. Bennett moved to Bakersfield, Calif. He returned to Gillette in 1985. He was active in the Campbell County Senior Center and enjoyed playing cards there. He moved to Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in 2001. Mr. Bennett also enjoyed fishing, hunting, horse races and fireworks. He was a lifetime member of the Sheridan Elks Lodge 520. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by four brothers. Survivors include three sons, Sam and Jerry, both of Gillette, and Jack of Boise, Idaho; two brothers, Charles of Oregon and Bob of Lewiston, Idaho; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. A memorial has been established in Mr. Bennett's name to benefit the Sheridan Elks Lodge 520 Memorial Cemetery in Sheridan or the Campbell County Senior Center in Gillette.

Robert J. Dunne, 47, of Sheridan died Tuesday, May 25, 2004, at his residence. Vigil services are 7 p.m. today at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral liturgy will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Holy Name Catholic Church with the Rev. Thomas Ogg officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mr. Dunne was born Aug. 2, 1956, in Hawthorne, Calif., to Calvin and Wyoma (Cole) Dunne. The family moved to Sheridan in 1968. Mr. Dunne graduated from Sheridan High School and worked for Fletcher Construction, Poll Motor, Champion Funeral Home, Wal-Mart and Sheridan Manor over the years. He married Patricia Trish Behles on July 29, 1995, in Sheridan. He worked part time for the Sheridan and Rocky Mountain Ambulance services and was a volunteer with Sheridan Area Search and Rescue. He enjoyed fishing, camping, golf, playing cards, his dog, Kasper, and being with family and friends. He also enjoyed stock car racing in his earlier years and was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife and parents, all of Sheridan; a foster child, Whisper Heath; a brother, David of Gillette; a sister, Cynthia Edwards of Sheridan; and his grandmother, Muriel Wilson of Wausau, Mo. Gordon L. Gordie Goodmay, 77, of Sheridan died Tuesday, May 25, 2004, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Rosary will be 7 p.m. Monday at Kane Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Name Catholic Church. Burial will be in Sheridan Elks Cemetery. Mr. Goodmay was born Oct. 20, 1926, in Sheridan to Albert Pot and Mabel (McCune) Goodmay. He grew up and attended school in Dietz. Starting at age 11, he worked as a ranch hand and for Burlington Northern Railroad during summers. He graduated from eighth grade at Dietz School the only eighth-grader in a school with four pupils. Mr. Goodmay joined the Navy and spent World War II as a Seabee in the Pacific. He served from 1944 until he was honorably discharged in 1946. He married Dorothy Marie Sieczkowski Oct. 5, 1947, at St. Thomas Church in Monarch. He worked for the Tongue River Trading Post, Sheridan Coal Co. and as a driver for Salt Creek Freightways. In 1957, he started work delivering beer for Bighorn Beverage Co. He worked his way up to sales manager. He worked part time in the 1990s before retiring. He played softball and coached for the Sheridan Boxing Club and later coached in Little League Baseball. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping in the Big Horn Mountains, pitching horseshoes, gardening and making audiotapes for family and friends. He was a member of the American Legion, Moose, Big Horn Mountain and Buffalo Eagles clubs and the Quarterback Club and was a lifetime member of the Elks. He was preceded in death by a brother, James, and a sister, Susian Wondra. Survivors include his wife; a son, Larry of Cheyenne; a daughter, Gloria Mathis of Wheatland; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Lon Weston, 62, of Sheridan died Thursday, May 20, 2004, in the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper after a short battle with brain cancer. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with Pastor Dan Keller officiating. Mr. Weston was born July 22, 1941, in Providence, R.I., to Russell and Emma (Gruner) Weston. He received his bachelor's degree in 1963 from the University of Miami, then served four years as an officer in the Air Force. He returned to the University of Miami after his discharge, and received his master's degree in college student personnel administration. He married Paula (Wrench) Weston in 1970. He worked at several colleges, including the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Georgia Tech and the University of Miami. He later worked with the developmentally disabled in Florida, Georgia and Sheridan. He was a substitute teacher and mentor at many Sheridan County schools and taught a government class at Sheridan College. His passions included sports (especially Detroit teams), collecting railroad steam engines and watching trains, hiking, line dancing and spending time with his wife, family and pets. He was preceded in death by an infant son. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Wendy Weston of San Dimas, Calif., Lisa McIntyre of Sheridan and Susan O'Neal of Ranchester; and five grandchildren. Lee Powell, 63, of Sheridan died Sunday, May 23, 2004, at his residence. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Don Derryberry officiating. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Powell was born Dec. 23, 1940, in Sheridan to Harry and Irene (Decker) Powell. He grew up on the family ranch in Decker, Mont., and attended Pine Butte School and Sheridan High School. He married Jacqueline Lee in 1960 in Sheridan. He graduated from Emery Aviation College in Greeley, Colo., in 1989 with a commercial pilot's license and a helicopter rating. He drove semitrucks for more than 20 years and was a heavy-equipment operator before ill health forced his retirement. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, old time country music, family get-togethers and spending time with his family and his special dog, Freckles. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Susan Powell of Sturgis, S.D., and Marcy Pierce and Penny Britton, both of Sheridan; a brother, Bill of Gillette; two sisters, Alice Armstrong of Sheridan and Addie Goodwin of Otter, Mont.; five grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters. Wyoming pioneer and former Sheridan resident Charlotte Cecelia (O'Brien) Young, 101, died Saturday, May 22, 2004, in Portland, Ore., where she had lived since 1990. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Edmund's Catholic Church in Ranchester with the Rev. Bill Halvey as celebrant. Burial will be in the Dayton Cemetery. A reception will be at Dayton School Benefit Club Hall following services. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Young was born Dec. 16, 1902, in Glenrock to William J. and Francis (Housiaux) O'Brien. She grew up and attended schools in Glenrock and Douglas. She married Claude Ivers Young June 26, 1919, in Douglas. She spent most of her life on ranches. She moved to Clearmont and later Sheridan in the 1950s. She moved to Portland in 1990 to be near her daughter. She was a member of Dayton Women's Club and Dayton Benefit Club and past member of the Moose Auxiliary. She enjoyed crocheting, flowers, fishing, hunting and travel. She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters, a brother and one grandson. Survivors include two sons, David of Billings and Claude Chip of Sandpoint, Idaho; a daughter, Loretta Joyce Twiss of Portland; a brother, Raymond O'Brien of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 23 great-great-grandchildren. Rita Mary Lubken, 81, of Gillette died Sunday, May 23, 2004, at her family's homestead near Savageton. She was mother of Colette Hendricks of Sheridan. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Gillette with the Rev. Tom Ogg of Holy Name Catholic Church of Sheridan officiating. Burial will be in Savageton Cemetery following a luncheon. Vigil/prayer service will be 6:30 p.m. today in the chapel of the Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home in Gillette. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. today until service time Friday. Mrs. Lubken was born July 19, 1922, to Wendell and Theresa (Lauby) Schlautmann at the family home six miles southwest of Savageton store and post office. The family moved to DeRudder, La., in 1927, and Mrs. Lubken attended Catholic school in first grade at Lake Charles, La. The family moved to a farm near Smithfield, Neb., in 1928, then returned to the homestead at Savageton in 1930. Mrs. Lubken attended the Savageton School through the eighth grade, then completed the ninth grade by correspondence from Campbell County High School. She attended St. Martin's Catholic School in Sturgis, S.D., the first semester of her sophomore year. She then returned to the Schlautmann Ranch to assist her family and drive the mail route from Savageton to Turnercrest. She married William E. Lubken June 30, 1948, in Gillette. The couple made their home in the Gillette area. Mrs. Lubken cleaned rooms for the Spur and Western motels and, during the 1970s, provided child care for many families. Mr. Lubken died May 20, 2001, after two years in Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Gillette. Mrs. Lubken enjoyed spending time with her family, crocheting, yard work, playing bingo, planting and keeping the house and barn painted and repaired. She won awards at county and state fairs for her needlework and crafts. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Gerald and Donald. Survivors include three sons, James of Denver, Daniel of Gillette and Jesse of Wright; four other daughters, Barbara Lubken and Veronica Grohs of Gillette, Rita Brunner of Denver and Becky Eberts of North Vernon, Ind.; three sisters, Lucy McMahon of Gillette, Clara Smetna of Black River Falls, Wis., and Barbara Schlautmann of Savageton; two brothers, Albert Schlautmann of Savageton and Louis Schlautmann of South Heart, N.D.; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Sheridan-native Rex L. Pullin, 81, died Sunday, May 23, 2004, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis, Mass., after suffering a heart attack, his family announced. He was the husband of Carol (Jorgensen) Pullin for 56 years. He was the son of George M. and Gertrude D. Pullin and brother of the late Robert and Audrey Pullin. Mr. Pullin was born and raised in Sheridan. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served as a radio operator for Gen. Douglas MacArthur in Tokyo at the end of World War II. After his service, he completed a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Denver. Mr. Pullin lived in Sheridan until 1957, when he began employment at the U.S. Census Bureau as a field administrator in Denver. During his many years with the Bureau he received numerous promotions, eventually retiring as an associate director of the Bureau in Washington, D.C., where he oversaw field operations for the entire U.S. Census. After his retirement, Mr. Pullin consulted to the United Nations, assisting the Pakistani government with its first national census. Surviving in addition to his wife are four children, Diana Pullin of Massachusetts, Deborah Pullin of Vermont, Robert Pullin of New Jersey, and Melissa Pullin of Massachusetts; and six grandchildren. Margaret J. Schopf, 92, a longtime resident of Sheridan, died Monday, May 17, 2004, at her home in Williamsburg, Va., according to her daughter. She was employed in Sheridan as a secretary at Whitney Benefits and Sheridan High School and was a member of First Baptist Church. Upon retirement she and her husband moved to Virginia in 1974. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eldon Schopf, in 1988. Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Watson of Williamsburg; a son, William Schopf of Cambridge Springs, Pa.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Carol Hurst McGlothlin, 76, of Sheridan died Friday, May 21, 2004, in Ivinson Memorial Hospital in Laramie. Cremation has taken place, and at her request no services are planned. Interment will be in the St. Peter's Episcopal Church columbarium. Arrangements are with Stryker Funeral Home in Laramie. Mrs. Hurst was born Feb. 9, 1928, in Sheridan to Thomas J. and Vera Mae (Kooi) Hurst. She was a 1945 graduate of Sheridan High School and a 1949 graduate of Northwestern University. She worked for the Long Beach, Calif., school system before retiring to Ashland, Ore. She moved to Sheridan in 1992. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Jean Conant and Elaine Andrews. Survivors include a son, Scott Alan McGlothlin; two sisters, Mary McEwan of Story and Barbara McConnell of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and a brother, Thomas K. Hurst of Sheridan. Memorials may be made to the Sheridan Senior Center or St. Peter's Episcopal Church.
Paul Anthony Nicholson, 74, of Parkman died Wednesday, May 19, 2004, in the Scottsdale (Ariz.) Healthcare Hospital after a battle with pneumonia and Valley Fever. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the C Spear Ranch on Pass Creek Road in Parkman with the Rev. Rudy Rosales officiating. Burial will be at the ranch. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Nicholson was born Jan. 21, 1930, in Tulsa, Okla. He lived there until 1972, when he and his family moved to a ranch east of Trinidad, Colo. He moved to the ranch in Parkman in 1977. He was a rancher, horseman, real estate developer and stock market enthusiast. He bred, raised and trained quarter horses, polo ponies, Thoroughbreds and Angus cattle. He supported the Big Horn, Scottsdale, Krazy Horse and Eldorado polo clubs. He played polo with the Southern Hills Polo Club in Tulsa and was a founding member of the Chukker Club there. He married Lynn Ellen Jillson of Tulsa. He later married Marilyn Clayton Nicholson. Survivors include his second wife of Parkman; a daughter, Julia Nicholson Boyle; two sons, Paul Gregory and Michael Anthony; three stepchildren, Tony Arnds, Dana Arnds and Stephanie Schindler; five grandchildren; and seven step-grandchildren.

Thomas E. Doughty, 93, of Sheridan died Friday, May 14, 2004, in Sheridan Manor. At his request, cremation has taken place, and no services are planned. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Doughty was born June 13, 1910, in Riverton to Thomas and Elizabeth (Saunders) Doughty. He grew up and attended schools in Riverton and was a 1929 graduate of Riverton High School. He was a 1935 graduate of the University of Wyoming with a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture education. He married Maxine Weick on June 6, 1934, in Greeley, Colo. She died in June 1966. Mr. Doughty was the first soil conservationist hired by the Wyoming Soil Conservation Service and developed the first Wyoming Land Ownership map including designated land use and problem areas. He worked for the state government for 30 years, retiring to Spokane, Wash., in 1964. He was honored in a recent publication celebrating 50 years of conservation in Wyoming. He lived in the Spokane Valley, Canada and Hawaii before returning to Sheridan in August 2001 to be close to family and friends. He lived in Sugarland Ridge before transferring to Sheridan Manor. He enjoyed flowers, cooking, fishing and big-game hunting, football and baseball. He was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church and a charter member of Sigma Chi Fraternity at UW. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers. Survivors include three sons, Richard of Spokane, Robert of Eagle River, Alaska, and William of Sheridan; a daughter, Adele Doughty of Powell; a brother, Jimmy of Nevada; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Madge C. Deems, 93, of Sheridan died Wednesday, May 19, 2004, in Sheridan Manor. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in St. Peter's Episcopal Church with the Revs. David Duprey and Ray Clark officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic No. 8 Section of Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Deems was born Nov. 25, 1910, in Lead, S.D., to Andrew and Mary (Wilkie) Curry. She grew up and attended schools in Lead and graduated from Lead High School. She married Nicholas Bornhofen in Lead, and the couple moved to Sheridan in 1940. Mr. Bornhofen died in 1958. She married Russell Deems May 15, 1962, in Lead. Mr. Deems died in 1987. Mrs. Deems was a former employee of the Sweetbriar Shop in Sheridan and later was a housekeeper in the dorms at Sheridan College until she retired. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, craft work and crossword puzzles. She was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Social Order of Beauceant and Daughters of the Nile, and she was a 60-year member of Eastern Star. In addition to her two husbands, she was preceded in death by a brother. Survivors include a stepson, Allen Deems of Denver; a stepdaughter, Jaynie Spell of Sheridan; and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Virgil Boardman, 81, of Sheridan died Monday, May 17, 2004, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Kane Funeral Home with Pastor William Heine officiating. Mr. Boardman was born July 10, 1922, in Fort Clark, N.D., to George and Pauline (Gaab) Boardman. He graduated from Forsyth (Mont.) High School in 1940, then enlisted in the Army. He served in the 78th Anti-Aircraft Artillery in the Aleutian Islands during World War II. After an honorable discharge in 1945, he worked as a printer at the Forsyth Independent for 34 years. He later worked two and a half years at Mills Printing and 13 years for Quick Printing in Sheridan. He married Mildred Pickering Jan. 11, 1947, in Billings. Mr. Boardman enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and spending time at his cabin at Tongue River Reservoir. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member for many years of the Forsyth Volunteer Fire Department. He was preceded in death by a sister. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Teri Cox of Miles City, Mont., Tana Rangel of Stanton, N.D., and Timi Johnson of Colstrip, Mont.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Thomas C. Rice, 75, of Sheridan died Sunday, May 16, 2004, in Sheridan VA Medical Center. Mr. Rice was born Aug. 2, 1928, in Sauk County, Wis., to John and Kathryn (Benton) Rice. He grew up and attended schools in Loretta and Reedsburg, Wis. He served in the U.S. Navy. He married Marilyn Wright June 22, 1950, in LaCrosse, Wis. He was an equipment operator on road construction until retiring in 1984. He moved to Sheridan in 1994. He enjoyed talking to people, woodworking and making furniture, and was an avid reader. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kayleen Arnett; a brother, Mike; two sisters, Pat Arttus and Loraine Vaughan; and a grandson. Survivors include a son, Daniel of Greybull; two daughters, Ruth Giertych of Gillette and Wanda Burton of Sheridan; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

David L. Houston, 62, of Sheridan died Saturday, May 15, 2004, at his residence. Cremation has taken place. Mr. Houston was born July 22, 1941, in Sheridan to George and Lois Houston. He was a 1959 graduate of Sheridan High School. He entered the Navy after graduation and served until 1962. He married Caroline Yellowtail Feb. 9, 1976, in Sheridan. He worked in the oil fields for many years, retiring in 1982. He enjoyed fishing, camping, watching local car races, being with his grandchildren and attending the Crow Fair each year. He was a member of Mercy and Grace Ministries and Wyola Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Kathy Arnoux and Lana Houston, both of Sheridan; two sons, Troy of Parkman and Stacey Two Bulls of Sheridan; two sisters, Sandra Swanson of Minnesota and Faith Hamilton of Oregon; three brothers, George Jr. and Bruce, both of California, and Duaine Jennings of Colorado; and 12 grandchildren. Mrs. Gwinn was born March 2, 1916, in Kooi to George and Agnes (Czepczar) Urbatchka. She was a 1934 graduate of Sheridan High School. She married Bill Humphrys in 1942. He died in 1946. She married Loyal Kirkland in 1948; he died in 1962. She married Gerry Gwinn in 1964. He died in 2002. Mrs. Gwinn worked in the office at Sheridan High School for several years while her daughters were in school. She later was a professional seamstress, crafting custom home furnishings. She enjoyed golf, gardening, art, sewing and her dogs. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a brother, George, and two sisters, Anna Urbatchka and Mary Jurosek. Survivors include two daughters, Maureen Humphrys of Sheridan and Barbara Humphrys of Washington, D.C.; and a sister, Elizabeth Ries of Scottsdale, Ariz. Mary Mentock, 99, of Sheridan died Thursday, May 13, 2004, in Sheridan Manor. A Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at Kane Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Name Catholic Church with the Rev. Ron Stolcis officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mrs. Mentock was born Jan. 1, 1905, in Dietz, a coal-mining camp five miles north of Sheridan, to George and Sophia (Mendryk) Kuzara. The family moved to Montana in 1913, living in Roundup and Windham until 1918, when they returned to Dietz. Mrs. Mentock left school after the sixth grade and helped her mother care for the family home and businesses. She married Andrew (Splitz) Mentock Oct. 25, 1925, in St. Thomas Catholic Church in Monarch. The couple lived in Dietz until 1929, then moved to Monarch, where Mr. Mentock worked in the coal mine. The family lived in Monarch until the mine closed in 1953. The family then moved to Sheridan, where Mr. Mentock worked in construction until his death on Feb. 24, 1964. After Mr. Mentock's death, Mrs. Mentock obtained a GED and took classes at Sheridan College. She did housework for several people and worked at the election polls for many years. She enjoyed crocheting and made many afghans for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking and baking, gardening and playing cards and bingo. She was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church, past chairwoman of the Saint Agnes Circle and past president of the Holy Name Altar and Rosary Society. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Anna Eccli and Rose Barbula; seven brothers, Walter, John, Andrew, Joe, Stanley, Mike and Henry; and two grandchildren. Survivors include two sons, Ray of Cody and Bill of Buffalo; a daughter, Eleanor Christopher of Longmont, Colo.; two sisters, Helen Barello of Sheridan and Charlotte Adamy of Greybull; 10 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. Walter Stanley House, 73, of Powell died Wednesday, May 12, 2004, in Salt Lake City VA Medical Center after a battle with cancer. He was father of Joyce House Duvall and Jim House, both of Sheridan. Burial will be in the Lovell Cemetery. Mr. House was born Dec. 7, 1930, in Powell to Oscar William House and Elna Tilda Wasden House. He grew up on the family farm in Ralston and attended Powell schools. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was honorably discharged. He drove a truck for Jim Averett, Caribou Four Corners, Lovell Clay Products and Dick Jones Trucking. He was Wyoming's 1995 Truck Driver of the Year. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Allred House, in the summer of 1974, and by two sisters, Peggy Allen and Linda House. Survivors include his mother of Cody; another son, John of Tekoa, Wash.; three brothers, Dean of Powell, Vern of Bozeman, Mont., and Neil of Chino, Ariz.; two stepsons, Chris Finkle and Tim Finkle, both of San Diego; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Terry M. Mulholland, 61, of Sheridan died Wednesday, May 12, 2004, at his residence. At his request, cremation has taken place, and no services are planned. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Mulholland was born April 6, 1943, in Houlton, Maine, to Maynard and Alice (McNally) Mulholland. He grew up and attended schools in North Adams, Maine, and was a 1961 graduate of St. Joseph's High School. He attended Berkshire Community College in Pittsfield, Maine, before joining the Navy in 1963. He served on the USS Enterprise during the Vietnam era. He returned to Maine and worked as a machine operator for Ingersol-Rand Corp. in South Deerfield from 1973-84. He later was sales associate for Delpadre Inc. and Manny's TV and Appliance in Maine before moving to Sheridan in 1992. He was a sales associate for Sheridan Outlet until 1998, when he went to work at the Sears store. He later worked for Sheridan Furniture and Appliance and Value Village before returning as a sales associate for Sears in 2001. He retired due to his health in 2003. He was president and chairman of the board for MFC Federal Credit Union in Turner Falls, Maine, for eight years and was a 29-year member of Elks Lodge 2521 in Montague, Maine. He enjoyed movies, sports, travel and camping. Survivors include his parents and a brother, Barry, all of North Adams. Margaret Maggie Peterson, 74, of Story died Monday, May 10, 2004, in Sheridan Manor after a battle against cancer. Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Friday at Kane Funeral Home with Tim Tromble officiating. Ms. Peterson was born in Chicago to John and Cora Johnson Peterson. She grew up in Rice Lake and Chippewa Falls, Wis. She was a graduate of St. Luke's School of Nursing in Duluth, Minn., and started her career as a registered nurse in Duluth. She also worked in Houston, New York, Denver and Billings before joining the staff of Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County in 1971. She helped establish the Intensive Care Unit, which she managed until retiring in 1995. She also served on several hospital committees. She enjoyed trout fishing, the outdoors, travel, music, gaming in Deadwood, S.D., and Las Vegas and being with friends and relatives. She was a member of Story Community Church and sang in the choir. Survivors include a sister, Bea Jorgenson of Oshkosh, Wis.; and a brother, Clyde, of Keno, Ore. Georgia Ruth Peggy Edgar, 81, of Wellington, Kan., died Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at the Via Christi Regional Medical Center St. Joseph Campus in Wichita, Kan. She was mother of Peggy L. Acker of Sheridan. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Day Funeral Home in Wellington. Visitation will be 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday at Day Funeral Home. The family will receive and greet friends from 6-8 p.m. Graveside services and burial will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Newkirk (Okla.) Cemetery. Mrs. Edgar was born June 30, 1922, in Neosho, Mo., to George Howard and Clare Isabel (Murdock) Atkins. She was raised at the Odd Fellow and Rebekah Home for Children in Carmen, Okla., from age 9. She married Emmitt Edgar Nov. 14, 1942, in Newkirk. The couple lived in Wellington and were members of First Christian Church since 1946. They owned and operated Edgar Maytag from 1946-54 and the Easy Wash Laundry from 1970-2004. Mrs. Edgar enjoyed attending yearly Home Kids Reunions, which raised money for college educations of children from the Checotah Oklahoma Odd Fellow and Rebekah Home. She also enjoyed reading, collecting seashells and watching football and basketball especially Kansas State games on television. She was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Howard Atkins. Survivors include her husband; a son, Kelly, of Wellington; another daughter, Emma Klein of Wellington; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. George W. Rudolph, 91, of Sheridan died Saturday, May 8, 2004, in Sheridan Manor. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Don Derryberry officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Visitation is until 5 p.m. today and 9 a.m. until noon Thursday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Rudolph was born Sept. 4, 1912, in Cassidy, Kan., to Charles Essic and Mary Ann (Whitham) Rudolph. The family moved to the Sheridan area in 1914. Mr. Rudolph spent his entire life ranching and breaking and training horses. He worked on the family ranch on Dutch Creek and traveled throughout the Rocky Mountain region with a sheep-shearing crew during shearing season. He worked for Kendrick Cattle Co. on the OW Ranch on the Powder River for many years. He also worked as a caretaker at the Trail End Museum, on the University of Wyoming experimental station near Wyarno and spent 10 years at the family ranch in Quietus. He married Hazel Lee in Sheridan in 1935. He later married Irene M. Decker Sept. 30, 1961, at First United Methodist Church in Sheridan. He was a member of the Methodist Church, sang in the church choir, taught Sunday school and was involved in other activities with the church. He also belonged to Sheridan Eagles Lodge 186. He enjoyed hunting, especially elk hunting in the Big Horn Mountains. He knitted mittens, scarves and lap robes for area children through the Volunteers of America. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by a son, a sister and a brother. Survivors include a daughter, Marjorie R. Johnston of Sheridan; two sons, Jack L. of Sheridan and John W. of Gillette; two stepdaughters, Alice Fleming Armstrong and Addie Goodwin, both of Otter, Mont.; two stepsons, Bill Powell of Gillette and Lee Powell of Sheridan; 19 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren. Philip Harris, 70, of Billings died Saturday, May 8, 2004, in Billings. He was father of Mikealena Olson and Jay Harris, both of Sheridan. He worked on ranches throughout Montana and Wyoming, spending his final years as a racehorse trainer and owner in Billings. Charles K. Chuck Boyer, 59, of Sheridan died Wednesday, May 5, 2004, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital due to complications of cancer. He was a fireman for the city of Laramie for six years. He established Boyer Plumbing and Heating in Sheridan in 1978. He married Gail King May 31, 1980. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was interested in local and Wyoming history and the Lewis and Clark Expedition. He was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church and sang in the church choir. He was preceded in death by his father, an infant son and an infant grandson. Edgar W. Dannels, 78, of Sheridan died Saturday, May 1, 2004, in Westview Health Care Center. Graveside services were Wednesday in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements were with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Dannels was born Aug. 14, 1925, in Altoona, Kan., to Leonard and Stella (Noakes) Dannels. He enjoyed music and being with his sisters. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Chester, Jesse and Arnold. Survivors include four sisters, Lenna Goehring, Ella Ann Lee and Betty Lee, all of Sheridan, and Hazel Addington of Decatur, Ark.; and many nieces and nephews.
Charles Joseph Pierson, 64, of Kaycee died Thursday, May 6, 2004, in the Johnson County Health Care Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in the Harold Jarrard Park Building in Kaycee with the Rev. Charles Taylor as celebrant. A Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday in the Adams Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Kaycee Cemetery with graveside services. Memorials may be made to the A.I.S. Lavoris Earleen (Roberts) Bruce, 79, died Saturday, May 1, 2004, in Sheridan Manor. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with Pastor Judy Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Big Horn. Mrs. Bruce was born June 3, 1924, in Halsey, Neb., to Robert Earl and LaVona Doris (Beard) Wyrick. She attended one-room schools in Ucross, Lodge Grass, Mont., and Ulm before attending Sheridan High School. She married Elmer Roy Roberts in 1941 in Sheridan. After her children were in school, she worked outside the home for private individuals until the 1960s, when she went to work as a nurse's aide at Eventide of Sheridan (now Sheridan Manor). She later worked for 17 years in the Psychiatric Unit at Sheridan VA Medical Center until taking medical retirement. She married Burnell Bruce in Sheridan in the early 1980s. The couple moved to Old Town, Fla. Mr. Bruce died in 1994, and Mrs. Bruce returned to Sheridan in 1995. She was a member of Soul's Harbor Pentecostal Church of God in Big Horn. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening, cooking for family and neighbors, traveling with her husband, reading, leisurely walks, classical music, swimming and quiet times by herself. She was preceded in death by three husbands; two sons, Fred D. and Dan G. Roberts; and two sisters. Survivors include two sons, David Roy and Michael Earl Roberts, both of Sheridan; four daughters, Barbra Ellis of Sheridan, Doris Baker of Mount Pleasant, Tenn., Judy Roberts of Big Horn and Iva Graham of Loveland, Colo.; two brothers, James Wyrick of Dufer, Ore., and Robert Wyrick of Lodi, Calif.; a sister, Rebecca Brown of Sparks, Nev.; several stepchildren; 27 grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Brian Wesley Flack, 21, of Sheridan died Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Billings. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Sheridan Junior High School with Pastor Scott Lee officiating. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Flack was born Feb. 6, 1983, in Sheridan to Mike and Tina (Tissino) Flack. He attended Sheridan schools and was a 2001 graduate of Sheridan High School. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but his passion was motocross. He won several awards as a pro rider and was sponsored by High Tech Motors of Billings. He was a member of the High Plains Motor Cross Association and Holy Name Catholic Church. Survivors include parents and stepparents, Mike and Barbie Flack of Big Horn and Tina Flack and Ken Decker of Sheridan; a brother, Christian Chris Flack of Sheridan; grandparents Hank and Mary Kusel and Orval and Florence Flack, all of Sheridan; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Nadine Lillibridge, 91, of Sheridan died Saturday, May 1, 2004, in Westview Health Care Center. No services are planned. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Lillibridge was born March 16, 1913, on the family farm near St. Edwards, Neb., to Elmer and Ida Christine (Dahlestedt) Jacobson. She grew up and graduated from high school in Nebraska. She attended college. She married Glenn Lillibridge Aug. 10, 1937. They moved to Sheridan in 1949, and Mrs. Lillibridge was director of the Young Women's Christian Association until the building closed. Survivors, all of Sheridan, include her husband, a son, Lee, and a daughter, Lynn.

Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Klinkhammer was born Nov. 7, 1950, in Kirkland, Wash., to Ron and Virginia (Bartley) Dorning. She married Vincent Klinkhammer Dec. 22, 1987, in Vancouver, Wash. The couple lived in Washington state 15 years before moving to Sheridan. Mrs. Klinkhammer enjoyed fishing, camping and spending time with friends. Survivors include her parents of Spokane, Wash.; her husband; two children, Tina Blanchette and Michael Rosen, both of Spokane; two brothers, Paul and Wayne Dorning, and a sister, all of Spokane; and five grandchildren.

Services in North Dakota will be with Gilbertson Funeral Home in Devils Lake. Mr. Patterson was born July 1, 1976, in Devils Lake. He was raised by his grandparents, Gilbert and Marie Peltier. He enjoyed Nascar racing and mechanical work. He was preceded in death by his father, Gilbert Peltier. Survivors include his wife, Patricia; two children, Nichole and Dylan, both of Sheridan; his grandmother, Marie Peltier; his mother and stepfather, Agnes Patterson and Juan Avila; and two sisters, Linda Patterson of Chelan, Wash., and CeeCee Silva of Wenatchee, Wash. Former Sheridan resident Claude E. Ash, 88, of Yuba City, Calif., died Monday, April 12, 2004, from complications of leukemia. Funeral services were April 16 at Ullrey's Memorial Chapel in Yuba City with the Rev. Wayne Vincent of the Loma Rica (Calif.) Community Church officiating. Mr. Ash was born in Missouri to Clarence E. and Hepsy (Mayfield) Ash. His father was an itinerant oil field worker, and Mr. Ash developed his mechanical abilities during the Great Depression by building cars and motorcycles from spare parts. From his teens until his retirement, he worked for oil field companies in the Western United States including Alaska. He served in the Army during World War II and helped build roads in Italy. He drove a truck for the Atomic Energy Commission during the 1970s in Alaska in preparation for the AEC's underground nuclear tests. He and his wife, Judy, lived in the Sheridan area off and on for 30 years before retiring to Live Oak, Calif., in the 1980s. They enjoyed Sheridan and returned to visit friends and relatives after moving to California. Judy Ash preceded him in death, and in 2001, he married Sonja Elaine Gillean of Yuba City. Mr. Ash was also preceded in death by a daughter, Marjorie Turner, and a brother, Donald. Survivors include his second wife; a daughter, Patricia A. Messenger of Woodland, Calif.; three grandsons; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Mary E. Garcia, 81, of Rawlins died Friday, April 30, 2004, in Carbon County Memorial Hospital. She was mother of Doris Ostrowski of Sheridan. A Mass of Christian Burial was this morning at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Rawlins with the Rev. Malcolm Reid as celebrant. Graveside services and burial will be in Rawlins Cemetery. Rosary services were Monday at the church with Deacon Jesus Juarez officiating. Mrs. Garcia was born July 18, 1922, in Mora, N.M., to Ricardo and Rafalita (Pacheco) Gonzales. She married John Frank Garcia Oct. 15, 1940, in Mora. He died Sept. 14, 1979. She worked as a waitress for many years in the Rawlins area. She also worked as an aide at the nursing home and as kitchen assistant for the child development center. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Rawlins Eagles Lodge. She was 1987 Carbon County Fiesta Days Queen. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four sons, John C., Raymond F., Billy T. and an infant son; a daughter, Maryann Irene; and two grandsons. Survivors include a son, Ralph of Rawlins; three other daughters, Grace Gomez, Corine Pacheco and Diane Wright, all of Rawlins; two sisters, Dulcinea Balles of Pueblo, Colo., and Ida Pacheco of Mora; a brother, Luciano of Montague, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Sharon Y. Thompson, 61, of Sheridan died Thursday, April 29, 2004, at her residence after a battle with cancer. Memorial services for Mrs. Thompson and her husband, Myron Swede Thompson, will be 2:30 p.m. Monday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Inurnment will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mr. Thompson died Aug. 28, 2003. Mrs. Thompson was born March 23, 1943, in Bottineau, N.D., to Clifford and Vivian (Olson) Patterson. She grew up and graduated from high school in Souris, N.D. She married Mr. Thompson in 1963. They lived in several places before settling in Sheridan in 1974. Mrs. Thompson worked at the Golden Steer Restaurant for more than 20 years. She enjoyed being with people. She was an avid collector of Elvis memorabilia and had an Elvis room. Survivors include a daughter, Jodi Johnson of Sheridan; two brothers, Gary Patterson of Bottineau and Les Patterson of Souris; six sisters, Darlene Floberg of Westhope, N.D., Laurel Ricciardelli of Plano, Texas, Bette Johnson of Bertha, Minn., Diane Patterson of Spokane, Wash., Nancy Gonzales of Littleton, Colo., and Lynette Patterson of Edina, Minn.; and one grandson.
