Eleanor I. Hosler, 87, of Sheridan died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, in Sheridan Manor. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Sheridan Square with the Rev. Doug Goodwin officiating. Kane Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Mrs. Hosler was born June 7, 1916, in Colorado to Thomas and Mary (Turnbull) Denton. She married Roy Hosler Aug. 29, 1934, in Sugar City, Colo. She passed her GED in 1973 and attained her licensed practical nurse license the following year. She worked at the Crowley County Nursing Home in Ordway, Colo., until 1979. She was preceded in death by her husband. Survivors include a son, Stephen of Alameda, Calif.; a daughter, Patty of Sheridan; a sister, Ethel Bamford of Grand Junction, Colo.; a brother, Joseph Denton of Moriarity, N.M.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
John Alan Brayton, 75, of Sheridan died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, at his residence. Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Brayton was born Jan. 15, 1928, in Sheridan to Harold Brayton and Marguerite Barker Brayton. He attended Holy Name School and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1945. He joined the Navy immediately after graduation and served on the aircraft carriers U.S.S. John Hancock and U.S.S. Boxer. He returned to Sheridan in 1948. He married Marion Woods in 1947. He was employed at First National Bank, where he retired as senior vice president in the early 1980s. He was also employed in real estate with BHJ and Purcell Land Co. He enjoyed horse training, steer roping, golf, stock trading and being with his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Donald; a sister, Betty Jean; and a son, Thad John. Survivors include a son, Mike of Gillette; and four daughters, Margi Brayton Gray of Sheridan, Jodi Brayton of Washington, D.C., Liz Skates of Rawlins and Shannon Brayton of Mesa, Ariz. Memorials may be made to Sheridan Dog and Cat Shelter or Holy Name School.
Bertha Grace Wallace Kreger, 92, of Sheridan died Friday, Nov. 21, 2003, in the home her husband built 57 years ago. Services were private with arrangements by Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Kreger was born Dec. 31, 1910, in Elton, Mo. She worked at Mills Printing Co. in Sheridan as a young woman. She married John Kreger Jr. in Columbus, Mont., in 1932. She was a housewife and enjoyed reading and yard work. She was preceded in death by siblings Bea Bentzen of Sheridan, Raymond Wallace of Buffalo and Bernice Carey, Bernel Mowrey and Richard Wallace. Survivors include a daughter, Janice Kreger Smith; two brothers, Robert Wallace of Yardley, Pa., and Ronald Wallace of Rosedale, Ore.; two grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Hal Ralph MacDonald, 51, of Sheridan died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003, in his residence. A celebration of life will be 2 p.m. today at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. MacDonald was born Feb. 16, 1952, in Rapid City to Ralph C. and Helen (Watchorn) MacDonald. He grew up and attended schools in Casper and was a 1971 graduate of Kelly Walsh High School. He attended Casper College for two years and graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science degree in parks and recreation. He received a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Phoenix. He worked for Mountain Bell and later for U.S. West Communications as head of research and development until 1994, when he became self-employed. He enjoyed woodworking, running, swimming and skiing. He was a certified lifeguard and a member of the University of Wyoming Ski Patrol. Survivors include his parents, of Edmunds, Wash.; a son, Jason of Aurora, Colo.; a daughter, Megan MacDonald of Tucson, Ariz.; and one brother, Glen of Mukilteo, Wash. Eleanor Odessa Dessa Wakefield, 87, died Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, after being hospitalized Nov. 13 for heart failure. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Doug Melius officiating. Inurnment will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Kane Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Mrs. Wakefield was born Dec. 2, 1915, in Glendo to John Ledra Mills and Susan Mildred Hardesty. At age 11, she and two of her brothers went to live with their aunt, Delia Odessa Herter, on a farm north of Johnstown, Colo. Mrs. Wakefield milked cows and did chores. She graduated from Johnstown High School at the top of her class in 1934 and went to live with her uncle, the Rev. Charles Hardesty, at the Methodist parsonage in Sheridan. She attended postgraduate school at Sheridan High School. She married Frank Wakefield Sept. 1, 1935, in a small farmhouse owned by Dave Herter outside Johnstown. Mr. Wakefield worked for Safeway stores in Loveland, Colo., and Mrs. Wakefield continued to help on the family farm. The couple returned to Sheridan in May 1936. During the war years Mrs. Wakefield moved back to Johnstown, while Mr. Wakefield served with the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater. The family returned to Sheridan in 1949. In the late 1960s, Mrs. Wakefield managed concessions, while her husband managed the Bison and Sunset theaters in Buffalo. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She is former president of the Taylor School PTA and was secretary/coordinator at Sheridan High School and a Rochford Studio associate. She supported school activities. She was preceded in death by a son, Gene, and by her four brothers, Steve, Roy, John and Elmer. Survivors include her husband, of Sheridan Manor; two sons, Bob of Sheridan and Larry of Kalispell, Mont.; a daughter, Mary Hudson of Wyoming; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Helen McCalla, 94, of Sheridan died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Viewing will be 5-7 p.m. today at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Ray Clark officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mrs. McCalla was born Feb. 22, 1909, in Sheridan to T.G. and Luetta (Smith) Scott. She graduated from Sheridan High School in 1927 and from St. Patrick's Hospital in Missoula, Mont., as a registered nurse in 1931. She married Maurice McCalla Aug. 18, 1933, in Deadwood, S.D. She worked as a registered nurse at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County for 25 years. She was the first coordinator for hospice when the program began in Sheridan in 1984, and she held the position seven and one-half years.
She was a member of the Social Order of Beauceant and First Congregational Church and was past matron of Naomi Chapter 2, Order of the Eastern Star, and its grand representative to the state of Washington. She enjoyed needlework, reading, sewing, cooking, fishing and her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, in 1960, and by a brother, a sister and one great-grandson. Survivors include a son, Terry of Upton; a daughter, Carol Ann Copp of Ranchester; 27 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. Joan L. McIntire, 65, of Carmel Valley, Calif., died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, in the home of her son, Bradford Wolfe of Big Horn. Memorial services will be later in California. Local arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Other survivors include her husband, Richard.

Former Sheridan resident Freda M. Monroe Surface, 97, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003, in Canon City, Colo. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Douglas Goodwin officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mrs. Surface was born June 10, 1906, in Sheridan to Harry and Agnes (Moorehead) Pratt. She grew up and attended schools in Sheridan and was a 1924 graduate of Sheridan High School. She worked in the Sheridan Journal office for several years after graduation. She married Thomas Monroe Aug. 2, 1930. He died in 1959. She married Ira W. Bill Surface Nov. 23, 1960, in Sheridan. He died in 1984. Mrs. Surface started the first cafeteria in Northern Wyoming Community College (now Sheridan College) in Stolt Hall at the Wyoming Girls School. The college moved to the old hospital building on Saberton Avenue in 1954, and Mrs. Surface managed the cafeteria there. After the college moved to its present location in 1959, she continued to manage the cafeteria until her retirement in 1964. She and Mr. Surface enjoyed fly-tying and fishing and traveled around the country delivering orders for their flies from 1964 to 1984. Mrs. Surface was also active in the Sheridan Senior Citizens Center. She was a member of First Christian Church of Sheridan and its Christian Women's Fellowship. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by three sisters and an infant daughter. Survivors include a son, Marvin Monroe of Story; a sister, Harriet Griffith of Sequim, Wash.; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Sheridan County native Rose Mary Dee Dee Legerski, 69, of Casper died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003, in Central Wyoming Hospice of Casper after a long illness. Services were Nov. 10 at Bustard's Funeral Home, Casper, according to the family. Mrs. Legerski was born Jan. 12, 1934, in Monarch to George and Lena Jensik. She attended Monarch School and Sheridan High School and worked at Eatons' and Bar 13 ranches in Sheridan County. She married Andy Legerski April 7, 1951, in St. Thomas Catholic Church in Monarch. They later moved to Casper. Mrs. Legerski was a homemaker and enjoyed reading and decorating. She worked for Mel's Water Service at the time of her death. Survivors include her husband; six children, Gayle Van Dorn, Dale, Ron, Rick, Cheryll Gallegos and Laura Youree, all of Casper; a brother, George Jensik of Sheridan; four sisters, Wilma Meryhew of Sheridan, Betty Bell of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, Mary Sweem of Fort Smith, Ark., and Margaret Boaz of Portland, Ore.; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Refugio Soto Castro Sr., 76, of Wyola, Mont., died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003, in Billings St. Vincent Hospital. He was father of Annie Switzer of Clearmont and Paula (Reuben) Spotted Horse of Sheridan. Rosary will be recited 7 p.m. today at Bullis Funeral Chapel in Hardin, Mont. Mass will be celebrated 1 p.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will be in Hardin's Fairview Cemetery. Mr. Castro was born July 4, 1927, in Kyle, Texas, to Mattilda and Paula Soto Castro. He grew up and attended school in Texas and moved to the Worden, Mont., area in 1948. He worked in the beet fields before beginning a career with CB&Q Railroad in 1951. He retired in 1989. He married Ella Houston April 22, 1951, in Ballantine, Mont. They ranched in the Wyola area. Mr. Castro enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing and mechanical work. He was preceded in death by a son, Refugio Jr., and his adopted mother, Agnes Cummins. Survivors include his wife; a third daughter, Peggy O'Leary Sr. of Cody; five sons, David of Hardin, Johnny of Pryor, Mont., Leonard of Wyola and Benny and Charles, both of California; two sisters, Frances and Mary Castro, both of Texas; four brothers, Johnny of Lame Deer, Mont., and Felix, Phillip and Joe, all of Texas; two adopted brothers, James LaRance and Mike Bird In Ground; an adopted sister, Dorothy LaRance; and 28 grandchildren. BUFFALO Francis Malone, 94, of Buffalo died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003, in Johnson County Memorial Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Missoula, Mont., with the Rev. Jerry Graham as celebrant. A vigil will be 7 p.m. Friday at Garden City Funeral Home in Missoula. Former Sheridan resident Mary V. Decker, 93, died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003, in Shepherd of the Valley Nursing Home in Casper. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. today at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with Pastor Don Derryberry officiating. Burial will be in the Elks Section of Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mrs. Decker was born Sept. 24, 1910, in Sheridan to Clarence V. and Lottie L. (Powers) Tiede. She grew up on the family ranch at the head of Otter Creek, Mont. She attended elementary schools in Otter and Huntington Park, Calif., and graduated from high school in Fullerton, Calif. She returned to the Otter Creek ranch in 1930. She married August W. Decker Oct. 23, 1934. She was a homemaker and partner on the ranch from 1934 through the 1990s. The couple moved to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, during the drought years 1936-37, and Mr. Decker was in the timber industry. Mrs. Decker was clerk for the Billup school district in Otter for more than 30 years. She was a member of Quietus-Otter Home Demonstration Club, Eastern Star and Farm Bureau. She enjoyed playing the piano, gardening, arts and crafts, knitting, crocheting, needlepoint and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her husband and by a brother, Tommy Tiede, on the U.S. aircraft carrier Liscomb Bay in 1943. Survivors include one son, Gordon L. of Belgrade, Mont.; a daughter, Dona L. Owen of Casper; a sister, Blanche Bunny Haight of Eugene, Ore.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Phil Bernard Reimers, 82, of Sheridan died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003, in Sheridan Manor, with his family at his side. Visitation will be 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at First Christian Church with the Rev. Doug Goodwin officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mr. Reimers was born March 2, 1921, in Belle Prairie,, Minn., to Philamon and Goldie (Kardell) Reimers. He grew up on the family farm in Laurel, Neb., and attended and graduated from Laurel School. He worked on the family farm before starting his own Bernard Trucking Business in Laurel. He joined the Navy in 1944 and served in the Asiatic-Pacific area and in the Philippine Liberation. He received the Victory Medal for World War II before his honorable discharge in 1946. He married Frances Hanson in 1946 in Wayne, Neb. They later divorced, and Mr. Reimers married Daisy D. Caskey Nov. 7, 1975, in Sheridan. Mr. Reimers joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and worked on various projects including putting power lines in the Big Horn Mountains and construction of Sibley Lake. He also worked for Miller Land & Livestock for a time before being employed as a master mechanic for Riley Motor Co. He worked for Riley for 30 years, until he retired in 1977 due to his health. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working in the garage and spending time with his family. He was a life member of the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his wife, Daisy; three brothers, Glen, Guy and Dean; and by a grandson. Survivors include four sons, Rod of Sheridan, Terry of Buffalo, Ross of Billings and Mike of Spring Hills, Fla.; two daughters, Irene Sessions and Yvonne Reimers, both of Sheridan; two stepsons, Bill D. Caskey and Dan D. Daniels; two brothers, George of Crane, Mont., and Gene of Sheridan; five sisters, Elsie Harmier of Sioux City, Iowa, Edith Berg of Gillette, Verline Canfield of Sheridan, Mary Ann Kahler of Great Falls, Mont., and Jeanette Hoffman of Cody; 23 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made in the names of Phillip Bernard Reimer and Steven Phillip Reimer to the Ronald McDonald House or the Denver Children's Hospital in care of Charidy, Cowboy State Bank, P.O. William Elmer Chace, 70, of Sheridan died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Monday at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Captains Michael and Jennifer Bates officiating. Burial will be in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mr. Chace was born July 11, 1933, in Spokane, Wash., to Kenneth L. and Mildred (Thomas) Chace. His ancestry was traced back to the Mayflower, and he was the last to carry the name Chace. He attended the Hill School in Sheridan. He enjoyed watching football, basketball, baseball and rodeos. He was a member of the Salvation Army and spent more than 33 years as a bell ringer for Christmas drives. Survivors include his mother, Mildred Fox of Sheridan; two stepsisters, Maxine Sipe of Sheridan and Shirley Samson of Wheatland; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Memorials may be made to the diabetes association or the Salvation Army.
Manuel S. Quintana, 94, of Sheridan died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003, in the Sheridan VA Medical Center. Vigil services will be 7 p.m. Sunday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Liturgy services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Name Catholic Church with the Rev. Thomas Ogg as celebrant. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mr. Quintana was born Oct. 12, 1909, in Walsenburg, Colo., to Estanislao and Secundina (Vigil) Quintana. He grew up in Walsenburg and joined the Navy during World War II. After the war he worked in various locations in Colorado and Wyoming before being employed by Montana Dakota Utilities as a power plant fireman. He married Beatrice Gutierrez May 24, 1941, in Douglas. She died in 1973. He then married Felipe Cortez, who also preceded him in death. He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the Eagles and the American Legion. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and played in the Dart Ball League into his middle 80s. He enjoyed spending time with his family. In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by a daughter. Survivors include two sons, Manuel Quintana Jr. of Portland, Ore., and Jim Quintana of Sheridan; two daughters, Margaret Stone of Denver and Mary Jo Zimmer of Front Royal, Va.; and five grandchildren. Sheridan native Charlotte J. Moeller, 82, of Cheyenne died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003, in the Life Care Center in Cheyenne. Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Monday in the First United Methodist Church in Cheyenne with the Rev. Blaine M. Scott officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. Arrangements are with Schrader Funeral Home. Mrs. Moeller was born Feb. 14, 1921, in Sheridan to Vincent and Esther Johnston. She was an executive secretary for five state treasurers before she retired in 1982. She was a member of the Civic League, Town and Country League, Delta Delta Delta Sorority and First United Methodist Church in Cheyenne. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Lester L. Carlson on Nov. 27, 1969, and Robert G. Moeller on July 5, 1983; and by a brother, Ray Johnston. Survivors include two sons, Steve Carlson of Jacksonville, Ore., and Robert B. Moeller of Cheyenne; a daughter, Christine Carlson of Cheyenne; two sisters, Barbara Furnish of Spearfish, S.D., and Helen Popp of Glenrock; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Memorials may be made to the Cheyenne Little Theatre.
Sheridan native and former Parkman resident C. Dean Salveson, 73, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003, in Rockport, Texas, after a lengthy battle with cancer, the family announced. His ashes will be placed by his great-grandmother Ebaugh in the Ebaugh family cemetery in Birney, Mont., in the spring. Mr. Salveson was born March 10, 1930, in Sheridan to Clarence Siverine Salveson and Hazel LaDean Kobold Salveson. He graduated from Sheridan High School in 1947 and moved to Casper, where he became a firefighter. He also was a sign painter, starting the Bar D sign shop with Bob Barkdoll, and worked at the Texaco refinery. He created signs throughout Wyoming that still stand. He became a designer in the advertising field and moved to Denver. He was a member and past master of the Masonic Lodge in Casper and belonged to the Shrine Club in Denver. They returned to Sheridan in 2000, and Ms. Vilhauer graduated from Sheridan High School in 2001. She attended Sheridan College for one year. She was a veterinary assistant for Sheridan Animal Medical Center in Sheridan. She loved animals and enjoyed fishing, horseback riding and photography. He was a police officer for a short time and also worked at Shipton's for many years. He retired in 1985 due to illness. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Sheridan. He enjoyed working on old cars, fishing, golfing, bowling, painting and spending time with his family. An avid sports fan, he followed Sheridan sports and University of Wyoming football. Survivors include his mother, Juanita Cline of Sheridan; his wife; two daughters, Lisa Oneyear of Sheridan and Debra Golden of Gillette; one brother, Ron of Ranchester; one sister, Nancy Longress of Sheridan; and two grandchildren. He served in the Navy Reserve from 1940 to 1945. He served as a radio operator on PB2Y-3 flying boats during World War II and participated in most of the major campaigns in the South Pacific. He married Helen E. Montaque Feb. 27, 1942, in San Diego. The couple lived in Spokane until 1958, when they moved to Casper. He worked there for the Federal Aviation Administration as an electronics technician. The family moved in 1961 to Sheridan, where Mr. Learn continued his work with the FAA. He retired in 1979 and operated a small repair business. He also delivered mail and meals to shut-ins. He was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters. Survivors include his wife; one son, Richard W. of Las Vegas; one daughter, Linda R. Billings of Story; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Lillian F. Hoveland, 86, of Sheridan died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003, in Westview Health Care Center. Visitation is until 5 p.m. and from 6-8 p.m. today at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Hoveland was born May 5, 1917, in Gardner, N.D., to Henry and Martha (Hystad) Fjeldahl. Her mother died when Mrs. Hoveland was a child, and she was raised by Will and Gertie Whetston. She attended schools in Plaza, N.D., and was a 1933 graduate of Plaza High School. She moved to Havre, Mont., and worked for the telephone company, then for the Buttrey store. She married Ole Hoveland July 9, 1938, in Havre. The couple moved to Miles City, Mont., in 1942, and Mrs. Hoveland did alterations for her husband's Hoveland Men's Store. The couple moved to Sheridan in 1958, and she became manager of City Center (now the Sheridan Center Best Western). She became active in Western Welcome. She started a career in real estate with Galey-Thomas Realty in 1966. She operated her own company, Hoveland Real Estate Agency, from 1982-90. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, served on the church council, taught Sunday school and was active in the Steven's Ministry. She was a past worthy matron of the Eastern Star Chapter in Miles City, a member of the Fine Arts Club in Sheridan and was a founding member of Life Link of Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, painting and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2000 and by two sisters and two brothers. Survivors include a son, John W. Jack of Sheridan; three daughters, Joanne Holbrook and Karen Kawulok, both of Sheridan, and Marci Kirk of Gillette; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Former Sheridan resident Gordon Myers, 78, of Fort Collins, Colo., died Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003, in Fort Collins. Cremation has taken place, and a private burial is planned. Arrangements are with Goes Funeral Care of Fort Collins. Mr. Myers was born July 2, 1925, in Casper to Charles Myers and Ester Stewart Myers. He was a World War II Navy veteran. After service he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in zoology from the University of Wyoming, a Doctor of Medical Dentistry degree from Washington University in St. Louis and a Ph.D. in nutrition from the University of California in San Francisco. He married Charlott Havemann Aug. 22, 1970, in Fresno, Calif. He was director of the dental hygiene department at Sheridan College from 1971-90. He was assistant professor at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver from 1967-71. The family moved to Fort Collins in 1992. Mr. Myers enjoyed fishing in his spare time. He was preceded in death by a brother, Gifford. Survivors include his wife.

Sheridan County native Edward "Chubby" Zowada, 75, of Bellingham, Wash., died Nov. 6, 2003, in Bellingham. At his request, there will be no services. He served in the Army Corps of Engineers during the Korean War. He was a past member of the Whatcom County Sheriff's Posse and a lifetime member of the BPOE No. 520 Elks Club. He retired from Georgia Pacific West. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and leather crafting. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Mike and Robert. Survivors include his wife, of Bellingham; a son, Mike of Bellingham; three sisters, Stella Bocek of Wyoming and Margaret Gazur and Mary Youngkins, both of Bellingham; a brother, Walter "Dude" of Wyoming; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Andrew J. "Jack" Banas, 85, of Sheridan died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2003, in the Sheridan VA Medical Center. Burial will be in the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, S.D., with services at a later date. Arrange-ments are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Banas was born Sept. 16, 1918, in Dietz to Andrew and Mary (Nickles) Banas. He joined the U.S. Army in December 1941 and served until his honorable discharge in December 1945. He was assigned to the 6th Airdrome Squadron as an airplane and engine mechanic. He served in Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland and Central Europe. He received the American Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He graduated from San Francisco State College in 1948. He married Julester Askew April 11, 1952, in San Francisco. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953-55. As a member of the Adjutant General Corps, he traveled to the war zone in Korea to view the troops. He was responsible for the Legion of Honor exhibit in San Francisco. He was with security services for the city and county of San Francisco, served as a Boy Scout leader and enjoyed fishing, reading and sports. He was an antique collector and studied the Bible. He was preceded in death by a daughter, a grandson, four brothers and one sister. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Diana Grant, Iris Grant and Jacqueline Shelton, all of the San Francisco Bay Area; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She married John C. Rawlings Dec. 6, 1952. She was employed for 30 years at First Interstate Bank and at the Perkins Foundation from 1992 until her death. She was a majorette for the American Legion Drum and Bugle Corps in the 1950s and a member of Elks Lodge No. 520 and the AARP. She enjoyed boating, waterskiing, snow machining in the Big Horn Mountains, growing African violets, gardening, canning, cooking, shopping, travel and spending time with her family. She enjoyed country music and dancing. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1976 and by a sister, Jeanne Grey, in 2002. She enjoyed reading and read her Bible many times a day. She also enjoyed being with her friends, family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and one brother. Survivors include two brothers, George of Bellingham, Wash., and Michael of Ranchester; a cousin; one niece; and seven nephews. BUFFALO Former Sheridan resident Jerry Eugene Campbell, 71, of Buffalo died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003, in Johnson County Health Care Center. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with the Rev. George Greer and the Right Rev. Vernon Strickland officiating. Visitation will be 1-10 p.m. today in Adams Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Campbell was born June 26, 1932, in Gillette to C. Harold and Velma Campbell. The family moved to Sheridan when he was a child, and he attended grade school here. The family moved to Rawlins in 1942, and Mr. Campbell graduated from high school there in 1951. He attended the University of Wyoming one year. He married Frances Williams Sept. 10, 1952, in Sinclair. They made their home in Rawlins. Mr. Campbell joined the Marine Corps in 1953 and served in San Diego and Guam during the Korean War. He attended Eastern Montana College and received a bachelor's degree in education. He taught in Fairview, Mont., and Hanna before teaching in Tongue River schools. He taught at Tongue River from 1962-67 before moving to Buffalo, where he was head football coach from 1967-74 and coached basketball and track. He was athletic director at Buffalo for 25 years. He retired in 1992. He was Absaraka Conference Coach of the Year in 1970, 1972 and 1973 , Wyoming Interscholastic Administrator of the Year and National Interscholastic Athletic Administrator Director of the Year in 1978 and was inducted into the Wyoming Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1985. He was assistant coach of the 1974 Shrine Bowl. He was a lifetime member of the Wyoming Coaches Association. He was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Anchor Lodge No. 7 AF and AM, York Rite, Kalif Temple and American Legion. He was a member of the Johnson County School Board at the time of his death. He was preceded in death by a son, Rick. Survivors include his wife; a son, Mark of Casper; a daughter, Kim Prosinski of Buffalo; a half brother, Robert Campbell of Boise, Idaho; a half sister, Linda Jackson of Sheridan; and seven grandchildren.
