Former Sheridan resident Pearl J. Faycosh, 78, of Miles City, Mont., died Monday, Nov. 28, 2005, in Holy Rosary Hospital. Cremation has taken place, and the family plans private disposition of cremains later. Arrangements are with Bullis-Graves Memorial Chapel of Miles City. Mrs. Faycosh was born Oct. 8, 1927, in Tacoma, Wash., to Antone and Jacqueline Dragovich Kuljus. She grew up and attended schools in Tacoma. She married Joseph Faycosh on Jan. 4, 1947, in San Francisco. The couple made their home in California, then in Colorado, where Mr. Faycosh worked for the postal service and the Union Pacific railroad. They moved to Sheridan in 1970. Mr. Faycosh worked for PKS, and Mrs. Faycosh was active with community organizations and raising her children. She was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church here for 33 years. The couple moved to Miles City in 2003. Mrs. Faycosh was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Elizabeth Clark; and a sister, Rosemary. Survivors include a daughter, Ana Powers of Gillette; three sons, Joe of Laramie, Gary of Florida, and Jeff of Miles City; 11 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
Graveside services for Albert Julius Bitters, 88, of Sheridan will be 2 p.m. Friday in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with Barry Benth officiating. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Bitters died Saturday, Nov. 26, 2005, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. He was born in Hoisington, Kan., on Dec. 11, 1916, to Peter and Catherine Deines Bitters. He lived in Fort Collins, Colo., Torrington and Ranchester before moving to Sheridan. He worked on ranches and spent a short time in the Army, receiving an honorable discharge. He worked at Boeing Aircraft and the coal mines in Monarch. He married Georgia Lee Burgess on Nov. 8, 1948, in Billings. He worked at Mydland Dairy, then the couple moved to Sioux Falls, S.D. They returned to Sheridan in 1950, and he returned to work for Mydland Dairy. He later worked at Sheridan VA Medical Center, from which he retired after 30 years. He was a member of American Legion Post 7. He and his wife traveled to Hawaii, Europe and Canada as well as the lower 48 states. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and snowmobiles as well as fishing, gardening and playing keno. He was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Koch, and a sister, Irene Day. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Erna McClure and Marlene Schultz; six sisters, Rose Rotellini and Helen Showers, both of Sheridan, Elfreda Williams of Rocklin, Calif., Gladys Madron of Buffalo, Florence Weibel of Worland and Adeline Clark of Moab, Utah; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Sheridan Dog & Cat Shelter.
William Alderson, 58, of Sheridan died Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2005, at his residence. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. David Duprey officiating.

Memorial services for James Bentzen, 76, of Sheridan will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with the Rev. David Duprey officiating. A reception will follow at the church. Burial will be at a later date. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Bentzen died Friday, Nov. 25, 2005, in Sheridan VA Medical Center. He was born April 14, 1929, in Oakland, Calif., to Ann E. (Tolman) Bentzen and Lyle W. Bentzen. He married Joan Elaine Sidie on June 11, 1952, in Grinnell, Iowa. He graduated from Coe College in 1952 and joined the Air Force in August 1952. He served as a pilot during the Korean War. He contracted polio, which forced him to retire after two years. He was the oldest known living polio survivor within the VA system. He was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, where he served as a Steven's minister, several terms on the church vestry and as a board member of the Endowment Committee. He was instrumental in erecting the American Legion Monument, according to family. Survivors include his wife; a son, Scott of Sheridan; a daughter, Pamela Woodward of Sheridan; a sister, Natalie of Lafayette, Colo.; a brother, William of Tucson, Ariz.; and three grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Sheridan VAMC Hospice or St. Peter's Episcopal Church for organ pipes.
BUFFALO Katharin M. Katie Wilson, 87, of Buffalo died Monday, Nov. 28, 2005, in Johnson County Health Care Center. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bob McHenry officiating. A private family burial will be in Willow Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel. Memorials may be made to Buffalo Senior Center in care of the funeral home.
Sheridan native Joana Peterson, 62, of Green River died Saturday, Nov. 12, 2005, at her residence following a sudden illness. Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service was Nov. 18 at Vase Flaming Gorge Chapel in Green River. Mrs. Peterson was born Nov. 6, 1943, in Sheridan to Steven and Francis Johnson Takach. She had lived in Green River since 1990 and was a member of the Green River Symphony Orchestra. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Rockwell Peterson, and a brother, Patrick Takach. Survivors include her mother of Sheridan; two sons, James R. Peterson II of Vail, Colo., and Robert B. Parry III of Madison, Wis.; a daughter, Kiersten Peterson of Milwaukee; four brothers, David and Walter Takach, both of Albuquerque, N.M., Eugene Takach of Bakersfield, Calif., and Neil Takach of Springdale, Utah; a sister, Wauna Lou Paulson of Laurel, Mont.; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services for Myrna Lois Ingersoll, 59, of Sheridan will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Scott Lee officiating. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mrs. Ingersoll died Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2005, at her residence. She was born July 2, 1946, in Sheridan to Lois E. (Kitchel) and Ernest E. Swinyer. She graduated from Sheridan High School in 1965. She was trained as a certified nurses aide and worked at a nursing home. She enjoyed collecting dolls, clowns and water globes, reading, the mountains, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Beverly McElles. Survivors include two daughters, Irene (Trujillo) Gonzalez and Rowena (Trujillo) Aarstad, both of Sheridan; two sons, Steven and David, both of Sheridan; two brothers, Clifford and Ron Swinyer; a sister, Pamela Wegner; and six grandchildren.

Mrs. Clark died Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005, at Westview Health Care Center. She was born Sept. 1, 1912, in New Haven to Curtis and Jessie Clark. She attended a country school through eighth grade, then lived with a sister while attending high school. After graduating from high school, she moved to Omaha, Neb., where she graduated from Nicholis Senn Hospital as a registered nurse. She worked as a public health nurse until joining the Union Pacific Railroad as a nurse stewardess. She also worked in a doctor's office after World War II. She married Clarence Pud Cates. She was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Mike and Jaybe, both of Sheridan; a grandson; and two step-grandchildren. Mr. Taylor was born Dec. 17, 1988, in Sheridan to Bradford and Dee (Streeter) Taylor. He attended Sheridan High School. He enjoyed camping and fishing in the mountains, playing chess, and music. He was preceded in death by one grandmother and two grandfathers. Survivors include his parents of Sheridan; two brothers, Nathan Taylor and Ty Pierce; a sister, Tashina Pierce; four grandparents, Carol Streeter of Buffalo, Lee and Cathy Streeter of Sheridan, and Aly Pierce of Sheridan; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Mary Alice Newbigging, 98, of Sheridan died Thursday, Nov. 10, 2005, in Westview Health Care Center. At her request, cremation has taken place, and a private family service will be later. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. She was born Aug. 5, 1907, in Kleenburn to Clinton Robert and Ethel Inez (Walker) Ulery. She grew up in the Decker, Mont., and Sheridan areas and attended Taylor, Meade Creek and Sheridan High schools. She married Bill Newbigging on Sept. 6, 1929, in Sheridan in ceremonies performed by Sheridan County Clerk Slim Hume. She was a homemaker and worked with her husband in their sawmill and building their various rental homes. She enjoyed playing the piano, reading, socializing, making jellies from wild berries, rides in the country, the mountains and fresh flowers. She was preceded in death by her husband and three brothers. Survivors include a daughter, Marcella Woods of Sterling, Alaska; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one step-great-granddaughter; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Edwin Solomon Joubert, 93, of Buffalo died Saturday, Nov. 26, 2005, in Sheridan VA Medical Center. He was father of Elaine Knudson of Arvada. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel with Joe Jarvis officiating. Burial will be in Willow Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. Wednesday and 8-9:30 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel. Mr. Joubert was born April 20, 1912, in Bear Creek, Wis., to Mitchell and Rose Joubert. The family moved to the Badlands of North Dakota, 15 miles from Belfield, when he was an infant. He grew up in North Dakota and attended country school. The family homesteaded until 1935, when it returned to Wisconsin. Mr. Joubert was drafted into the Army in 1944 and served with the 535th Anti-aircraft Artillery Division under Gen. George Patton in the European Theater. He was honorably discharged in June 1946. He returned to North Dakota until 1950, when he moved to Johnson County. He worked for several ranches. He married Clara Hardee on June 8, 1952, in Buffalo. They resided on the Three I Ranch south of Kaycee. In 1955, they moved to the Cross H south of Buffalo and later to the Russell Wright Ranch on Clear Creek. In June 1958, they bought a place north of Buffalo and worked for Duane Foss on the M and M. Mr. Joubert later worked as a water well driller, then for Johnson County Road and Bridge until 1974, when he retired. After retirement, he spent time braiding horsehair and doing decorative welding. He was a member of the 49ers Dance Club, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by seven brothers, five sisters and one daughter. Survivors include his wife; another daughter, Bonnie Rose of Thatcher, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Earl E. Watt, 82, of Upton died Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005, at the family home. He was father of Phil Watt of Sheridan. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in the Laverne Boal Auditorium in Upton Elementary School with the Rev. Gene Hagerman officiating. Burial will be in the Upton Greenwood Cemetery under direction of Worden Funeral Directors of Newcastle. Visiting hours are 2-5 p.m. today at Worden Chapel in Newcastle. Mr. Watt was born June 9, 1923, to Eugene Ellsworth Watt and Margaret Elizabeth Schneider at the family home on Buffalo Creek. He attended country schools and was a 1939 graduate of Upton High School. He married Mary Alice Fullerton on June 1, 1943, in Atkinson, Neb. They settled on the family ranch near Upton, where they lived for about 10 years before moving to Belgrade, Mont., while Mr. Watt attended Montana State University-Bozeman. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education. After a brief time of teaching, he returned to ranching on Buffalo Creek. In 1973, he moved to Upton and worked as a carpenter. He served on the school board, weed and pest control board and museum board. He was an avid sports fan and attended sports events involving his children and grandchildren around the state. He was preceded in death by two brothers, four sisters and two grandchildren. Other survivors include his wife, of Upton; three daughters, Karen Hudspeth of Upton, Cathy Grekoff of Gillette, Lynnea Prell of Newcastle; three other sons, Don Watt of Chadron, Neb., Steve Watt of Rock Springs and Joe Watt of Upton; a brother, Bruce Watt of Sioux Falls, S.D.; a sister, Lucille Darlington of Upton; 25 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the Upton Ambulance Fund.
Former Sheridan resident Virginia Faye Wagoner Hepp, 70, of Buffalo died Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2005, at the home of her daughter in Buffalo. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in the Adams Funeral Home Chapel with Marilyn Connolly and Mark Cotter officiating. Burial will be in Willow Grove Cemetery. Mrs. Hepp was born Aug. 4, 1935, in Shell to Stanley and Lydia Pense. She grew up in Shell and was a 1953 graduate of Greybull High School. She moved to Sheridan after high school and worked at various jobs. She married Jack Wagoner on Feb 25, 1954, in Billings. They made their home on the Bay State Ranch in Tensleep. They later moved to Kaycee to work on the Gordon Ranch. Mr. Wagoner was killed in an airplane crash in October 1963. The family moved to Buffalo in 1965, and she married Bill Hepp in 1972 in South Dakota. The Hepps made their home in Buffalo for a short time before moving to the Gordon Ranch. Mr. Hepp died in January 1988. Mrs. Hepp moved to Buffalo and worked for School District 1 until ill health forced her to retire in July. She was a member of the Elks Lodge in Sheridan. She enjoyed dancing and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed outdoor activities. She was preceded in death by two sisters. Survivors include two daughters, Debbie Cotter and Linda Bickham, both of Buffalo; a brother, Gary Pense of Kaycee; two sisters, Gloria Borner of Cody and Margie Pense of Thermopolis; five granddaughters; and one great-granddaughter. Memorials may be made to the Susie Bowling Lawrence Hospice in care of the funeral home.

Richard Fred Carr, 86, of Kaycee died Monday, Nov. 21, 2005, in the Johnson County Health Care Center. He was father of Dick Carr of Banner. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday in the Harold Jarrard Park Building in Kaycee with the Rev. George Von Kaenel officiating Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. Friday in the Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo. A Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in the Kaycee Cemetery with military graveside rites by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Carr was born Feb. 15, 1919, in Ralston, Neb., to Fred and Jennie Carr. He grew up in Ralston and Omaha, Neb., and attended South High School in Omaha. He worked at various jobs school until July 1942, when he joined the Navy. He after high served in Pearl Harbor during World War II as a submarine mechanic. He received an honorable discharge in October 1945 and returned to Omaha. He married Lillian Pavel on Aug. 6, 1949, in Omaha. He drove a truck for Safeway. They moved to Kaycee in June 1960, and owned and operated the Kaycee Hardware. Mr. Carr worked as a part-time truck Locker Plant and driver for Clyde Key and Vern Eitel until 1982. The Carrs moved to a ranch east of Kaycee in September 1979. Mr. Carr was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed farming, putting up hay and spending time with his family, grandchildren. Other survivors include his wife, of especially his Kaycee; another son, Fred of Kaycee; a daughter, Janet Angel of Windsor, Colo.; two brothers, Bob of Omaha and Jack of Kingman, Ariz.; a sister, Betty Glasshoff of Gretna, Neb.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Former Sheridan resident Ronald Dean Burnett, 80, of Huntley, Mont., died Friday morning, Nov. 11, 2005, at his residence following a short illness. Cremation has taken place. Inurnment will be at a later date. Arrangements are with Dahl Funeral Home. Memorial services were 11 a.m. Monday at Harvest Church, 1235 Wicks Lane in Billings. Mr. Burnett was born Feb. 22, 1925, in Dalhart, Texas, to Watson A. and Margaret G. (Seward) Burnett. He attended grade school in Sheridan and graduated from Billings High School in 1942. Ron was the high school interscholastic tennis and swimming champion. In the Service, he attended the Navy program at Carroll College in Helena, and radio school at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. After the war, he attended Montana State University in Bozeman, graduating with a degree in business from the University of Montana-Missoula. He married Betty Jean Brayton in 1947. They were later divorced. He married Darlene Laas on Dec. 17 and 18, 1970, in Golden, Colo. He owned the Mildred Hazel Shops until 1969 and was a member of the Billings and Browning Lions Clubs. Survivors include his wife, of Huntley; a son, Dan Burnett of Story; three daughters, Carla Burnett of Ashland, Ore., Robin Burnett Patton of Reno, Nev., and Cindy Burnett of Billings; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Sheridan County native Paul Joseph Barina Sr., 89, of Santa Paula, Calif., died Friday, Nov. 11, 2005, in Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura, Calif., after a brief illness. A gathering of remembrance is planned for friends and family next spring. Arrangements are with Funeraria del angel Stetler Mortuary in Santa Paula. Mr. Barina was born May 15, 1916, in Monarch to Joseph and Anna (Fasung) Barina. He grew up in Sheridan and was a graduate of Sheridan High School. He joined the Navy in 1935 and was a veteran of World War II. He served as a radio man. He was honorably discharged as chief petty officer in 1945. He married Marion Bella Mahan on Aug. 21, 1943, while he was stationed in Winslow, Ariz. They moved to Sheridan in the early 1950s, and he worked for the FAA. They moved to Las Vegas in 1958. Mr. Barina retired from the FAA as an electrician technician in 1972. The Barinas moved to Santa Paula in 1986. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary, Anna and Betty. Survivors include his wife, of Santa Paula; two daughters, Marion Catherine and Ethel Ann; a son, Paul Joseph Jr.; four grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

Graveside services for Catherine Vaccaro, 97, of Sheridan will be 2 p.m. Friday in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with the Rev. Thomas Ogg officiating. Military rites will be by the Marine Corps League and American Legion. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Vaccaro died Friday, Nov. 11, 2005, in Westview Health Care Center. She was born Oct. 10, 1908, in New Brunswick, N.J., to Peter and Kristina (Scholz) Pfeiffer. She grew up and attended schools in New Brunswick and graduated from Drake Business College. She worked as a bookkeeper for RCA. She enlisted in the Marine Corps during World War II and served in Virginia and Hawaii. She returned to New Jersey after service and worked at Camp Kilmer for the Army. She married Ralph Vaccaro on Sept. 27, 1947, in New Brunswick. She worked at several jobs until 1971, when the Vaccaros moved to Las Vegas. They managed a mobile home park for 15 years until retiring in 1982. They moved to Sheridan in April 1995. Mrs. Vaccaro later received several World War II medals from Sen. Mike Enzi, R-Wyo. Mr. Vaccaro died in 1996. Mrs. Vaccaro was a member of the American Business Women's Association and a life member of the Women Marines Association and Marine Corps League. She was the oldest woman Marine in Wyoming, according to information from the funeral home. She enjoyed bowling, arts and crafts, gardening and attending the Marine Corps Ball. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Mathew. Survivors include a daughter, Marie Vaccaro of Wolf. Memorials may benefit the Marine Corps League, 204 S. She grew up and attended schools in Vermont and graduated from high school there. She moved to Colorado Springs, Colo., in 1995. She moved to Sheridan five years ago to be near a daughter. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and travel when her son was in the service. Survivors include two sons, Alan of Newbury, N.H., and Dale of Laurel, Md.; two daughters, Lynn Scott of Colorado Springs and Linda Brownell of Sheridan; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Savanna Sue Casey, 9, of South Korea died Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2005, of acute lymphoblastic leukemia, according to her family. She was granddaughter of Dueane Arther Smith of Sheridan. She was born Sept. 6, 1996, to Jennifer Smith and Edward Casey. Her family traveled to different areas of the world, and she had lived in South Dakota and the Navajo Reservation in Arizona before the family moved to Korea. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Snyder died Saturday, Nov. 12, 2005, in Westview Health Care Center. She was born Nov. 4, 1912, in Carneyville to Joseph and Eva (Kuzma) Gorzalka. She grew up and attended schools in the Sheridan area and worked as housekeeper on the John Kerns Ranch. She married Orville Jake Woods on Jan. 5, 1936. They lived in Parkman, where they operated the gas station. Mr. Woods died in 1950. She worked as a mail carrier. She married Milas Snyder on May 26, 1951, and they moved south of Sheridan. Mr. Snyder died in 1986. Mrs. Snyder enjoyed gardening, sewing and embroidering. She loved animals, especially horses. She was a member of the Mormon Church, the Relief Society and the Parkman Woman's Club. She was preceded in death by four brothers, four sisters and a grandson. Survivors include a son, Joe of Sheridan; two daughters, Eva Bishop and Betty Shassetz, both of Sheridan; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the LDS Church Hardship Fund.

Mrs. Clark died Thursday, Nov. 10, 2005, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. She was born Oct. 7, 1923, in Sheridan to Fern Aletha Hazelton Hasbrouck and Everett Deyo Hasbrouck. The family ranched in the Big Horn area until 1937. Mrs. Clark was educated in Big Horn until 1937, then attended high school in Buffalo, graduating in 1941. She attended Los Angeles City College for two years. She was a stewardess for Inland Airlines and Western Airlines, operating out of Denver, from 1945-53. She married Bill Clark on July 23, 1953, in Red Lodge, Mont. Mr. Clark was in the oil business, and the family lived in Billings, Salt Lake City, Worland and Casper. Mr. Clark died Oct. 18, 1975. Mrs. Clark moved to Sheridan in 1979. She was a member of Job's Daughters Bethel Chapter 4 in Buffalo, National Society of Colonial Dames in Wyoming, Sheridan Country Club and the YMCA. She enjoyed golf, dancing and working out at the Y. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Keith. Survivors include two stepdaughters, Bobby Purcell of Billings and Marlene Wagsland of Hayden Lake, Idaho; and step-grandchildren. He was born July 14, 1928, to Beecher and Hollis (Roberts) Varner in Powersville, Mo. His father was killed in a logging accident when he was 2, and his mother moved the family to Sheridan soon after. He grew up and attended school here. He served in the Navy during World War II. He married Jeanine Halbert in Sheridan in 1949. He worked for Boyd's Super Market in Sheridan until 1952, when he partnered with Roy Carlson in opening Boyd's Super Foods in Gillette and Sundance. He retired in 1980. He was past president of the Gillette Area Chamber of Commerce, served on the Campbell County School Board, and was a member of the Shriners and Masons. After retiring, he enjoyed traveling with his wife and spending weekends at the lake with his children. He was preceded in death by his wife after 52 years of marriage. Survivors include three children, Teri Hunter of Gillette, and Buz Varner and Debbie DiMichele, both of Bozeman, Mont.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Former Sheridan resident Charles Grealy Wentz, 76, of Longview, Wash., died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2005. A memorial service will be 7 p.m. today at Calvary Community Church in Longview. Placement of ashes will be later in Astoria, Ore. Arrangements are with Columbia Funeral Service. Mr. Wentz was born March 27, 1929, in Fort Scott, Kan., to Joseph Jack and Nellie (Tyndell) Wentz. He attended school in Fort Scott. He lived in Billings for two years, in Casper for 61 years and in Astoria for five years. He moved to Longview two years ago. He and his family lived in Sheridan from around 1988 until the mid-1990s. He was a self-employed truck driver for 27 years. He worked in maintenance for the Holiday Inn in Casper and was a bus driver for a Casper school. He retired in 1988. He married Eleanor Bishop on July 10, 1958, in Casper. He was preceded in death by three sons, Charles, William and Norman, and five brothers. She was born Oct. 2, 1912, to Casper and Sara (Snortland) Risdall on the family's farm outside Veblen. She grew up on the farm and graduated from Veblen High School, where she played on the varsity basketball team. She received her teaching degree from Bellingham (Wash.) Normal School. She married John O. Lien on June 21, 1934, in Veblen. They lived on the farm, and she cooked for the road crew of their construction company. She organized and was the first president of the Veblen PTA. The family moved to Breckenridge, Minn., in 1953. She continued to cook and was bookkeeper for the construction company. In 1958, the family moved to Big Stone City, S.D., and she was assistant manager of KDIO Radio with her own radio program. In 1962, they moved to Flandreau, S.D., and she was a dorm mother at Flandreau Indian School. Mr. Lien died in 1966. Mrs. Brinkman married Dr. Walter Brinkman on Oct. 2, 1976, in Langford, S.D. She retired, and they moved to Sisseton, S.D. Dr. Brinkman died in 1982. Mrs. Brinkman moved to Black Hawk, S.D., in 1984 to be near her brother. She moved to Sheridan in September to be near her son. She was a member of Piedmont Valley Lutheran Church. She enjoyed flower gardening, travel, crossword puzzles, making afghans and needlepoint. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sara Jane, and two brothers, Clayton and Jarvis Risdall. Survivors include a son, John of Story; a daughter, Mary Ollenburg of Seattle; a brother, Earl Risdall of Rapid City; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Sheridan native Karen Kay Schmill, 54, of Casper died Saturday, Nov. 5, 2005, at Central Wyoming Hospice after a four-year struggle with ovarian cancer. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Casper with the Rev. Katherine Robinson officiating. Cremation will take place. Arrangements are with Bustard's Funeral Directors of Casper. Mrs. Schmill was born Nov. 30, 1950, in Sheridan to Harry and Dorothy Bodine. She attended Sheridan public schools, Sheridan High School and Chadron (Neb.) State College, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration. She became one of the first women hired at the management level by Wyoming National Bank. She lived and worked in Gillette before moving to Casper, where she worked as an office manager for Centrilift. She married John Glenn Schmill in July 1986 in Casper. They divorced. She appeared in several Stage III Community Theatre productions. She enjoyed organizing neighborhood activities and parties. She served as a Girl Scout leader and was a room mother at Verda James Elementary School. She became a Master Gardener. When her acquired a dog, she became secretary of the Sheltie Club. She attended her daughters' school activities and dog shows. She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, where she taught Sunday school, and also belonged to the Altar Guild and assisted with Vacation Bible School. She completed a four-year study program, Education for the Ministry. When Meadow Wind Assisted Living opened, she became the activity director. She enjoyed holiday get-togethers, shopping trips to Denver and San Francisco, beach walks in Hawaii and Mexico, camping reunions in the Big Horns, and motor tours with her daughters. She was preceded in death by her father and a brother, Ronald. Survivors include two daughters, Brooke Anne and Allison Rose Schmill, both of Casper; her mother of Gillette; and two sisters, her twin Karol Anne Tinken of Gillette and Bethel Bodine of El Cerrito, Calif. He was a union carpenter for Peter Kiewit Co., helping build bridges and dams across the United States. He moved to Sheridan in 1994. He married Patricia Lutz on Oct. 12, 1962, in Watertown, S.D. He was preceded in death by four sisters. She married Earl Carl Meidlinger on July 26, 1943, in McGrath. The couple spent most of their married life in the Finlayson, Minn., area. They moved to Wyoming in 1977 and lived south of Buffalo for several years before moving to Story. Mr. Meidlinger died in 2003, and Mrs. Meidlinger moved to Linch to live with a daughter. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah; four brothers; and seven sisters. He was a 1968 graduate of Jordan High School in Sandy. He attended the University of Utah, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in 1973 and a Master of Science degree in 1976. He started working in 1974 for Kennecott Energy as a human resource manager and retired after 31 years. He moved to Sheridan in 1998. He married Noreen St. Martin on Aug. 1, 1998, in Manila, Utah. He was an Eagle Scout and enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, trapshooting, bike riding and spending time with his wife, family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father. Survivors include his wife; four sons, John St. Martin of Denver, Travis Scroggin of Herriman, Utah, Michael St. Martin of Craig and Daniel Scroggin of West Jordan, Utah; a daughter, Shannon St. Martin of Sheridan; his mother of Sandy; two brothers, Kevin of Midland, Mich., and Ted of Evanston; and two grandchildren. Sherman C. Husted, 68, of Sheridan died Saturday, Nov. 5, 2005, in Sheridan VA Medical Center. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. She was born Aug. 4, 1918, in LaSalle Parish, La., to William and Doshie (Griffith) Golden. She grew up in Louisiana and operated a restaurant in Gulfport, Miss., before it was destroyed by Hurricane Camille. She later worked in Utah and Alaska before moving to Ranchester with her sister. She married Clinton Frisbie in Sheridan on April 2, 1988. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, dancing and her family. She was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Artilda Ann; two brothers, Sherman and Charles Edgar; a half brother, Bill Squyres; and a half sister, Jule Batterby. Survivors include her sister, Johnnie Mae Esters of Sheridan; a stepson, Dennis Frisbie of Sheridan; and a stepdaughter, Ellen Johnson of Mobile, Ala. Memorial services for Joel Edwin JoJo Kangas, 66, of Sheridan will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Miller officiating. Mr. Kangas died Saturday, Oct. 29, 2005, at his residence. He was born Aug. 15, 1939, in Butte, Mont., to Edwin and Elsie Kangas. He was a 1957 graduate of Butte High School and attended the Montana School of Mines in Butte for two years, studying engineering. The family went to Waterloo, Mont., to farm. Mr. Kangas raised potatoes, hay, grain and pigs. He enlisted in the Army at the start of the Vietnam War and was chosen to attend telecommunications school at Fort Monmouth, N.J., where he was second in a class of more than 200. He received radar training at Red Stone Arsenal, Ala., then was sent to Fort Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska, where he worked at missile sites. He was at a missile site 200 miles from Anchorage during the 1964 earthquake there. He was honorably discharged from the Army and worked for the Montana Highway Department, helping build the freeway between Butte and Whitehall. He later worked for Mountain Bell in Montana. He took early retirement due to illness and around 1983 moved to Sheridan. He enjoyed cooking, hunting, fishing, and hiking in the Tobacco Root Mountains and Upper Rudy Valley in Montana. Survivors include two sisters, Delores Kangas of Butte and Francella Kangas of Gresham, Ore.

Mrs. Kurpjuweit died Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2005, at her residence. Cremation has taken place. She was born April 5, 1932, to Clifford and Della (Payton) Adsit in Napa, Idaho. She married Albert Kurpjuweit in Sheridan. She owned and operated the Calico Loft in Sheridan for 20 years. She was a former president of the Does. She enjoyed fishing, the outdoors, crafts and painting, and she liked teddy bears. She was preceded in death by a brother, James Adsit, and a sister, Dorothy Adsit. Survivors include her husband; four sons, James Cherry of San Francisco, David Cherry of Casper, Douglas Cherry and William Cherry; a daughter, Katherine Cherry of Greeley, Colo.; and three grandchildren.
Sheridan-native Robert A. Bob Gonder, 68, of Wasilla, Alaska, died Thursday, Oct. 27, 2005, in Alaska Regional Hospital. Funeral services were Tuesday in Witzleben's Bragaw Chapel with the Rev. Phil Mielke of Big Lake Community Chapel officiating. Burial was in Angelus Memorial Park. Arrangements were with Witzleben Family Funeral Homes & Crematory. Mr. Gonder was born Feb. 20, 1937. He moved to Alaska in 1964 and lived in Anchorage and Wasilla. He was self-employed and a member of Operating Engineers Local 302. He was preceded in death by a son, Roger. Former Sheridan resident Arlo Robert Asevedo, 31, of Glendale, Ariz., died accidentally in his home Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2005. A celebration of his life took place Saturday at his residence. Burial will be later in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mr. Asevedo was born Nov. 4, 1973, in Seattle. He spent most of his life in Wyoming and attended Sheridan College before moving to Arizona in 1994. He was a certified master technician in heating and cooling and owned Assured Mechanical H.V.A.C. LLC. Survivors include his wife, Stacy, and three children, Brandon, Blake and Ashley; his mother, Donna O'Banion-Crook of Rock Springs; and his sister, Sarah. Funeral services for Frank W. Wakefield, 92, of Sheridan will be 3 p.m. Thursday at the Presbyterian Church in Sheridan with the Rev. Doug Melius officiating. Committal services will be at Sheridan Municipal Cemetery, followed by a reception at the Wingate Hotel. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Wakefield died Sunday, Oct. 30, 2005, after a brief illness. He was born Aug. 5, 1913 in Boston. The family moved to Sheridan when he was a child. He married Eleanor Odessa Mills on Sept. 1, 1935. They lived in Colorado for a short time to help Mrs. Wakefield's family on the farm. They moved to Sheridan in 1936. Mr. Wakefield served with the U.S. Army in the South Pacific during World War II until he was injured and returned via hospital ship to the United States. He became manager of the canteen at the Veterans Administration Hospital (now Sheridan VA Medical Center) in 1949 for several years. He later retired, then went to work for Ross Campbell, managing the WYO Theater and Skyline Drive-in in Sheridan and several theaters in Buffalo. He volunteered his services as a captain in the Civil Air Patrol, a van driver for Sheridan VAMC and later worked with patients as a volunteer in the VAMC, was twice commander of the American Legion post in Sheridan and commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans. For many years he headed the Apples for Teachers outreach program to rural schools in Sheridan County. He joined the Boy Scouts at age 12 and as an adult was a Cub Scout master and Scout master of American Legion Troop 107 in Sheridan. In December 1971, he received the Silver Beaver, the highest honor awarded by the Boys Scouts of America. He was active in theater and music, participating in many variety shows staged at Sheridan's Orpheum Theater. He was a member of the Sheridan Community Concert Choir for many years and a member of the ensemble vocal group directed by Bob Wilson. He was preceded in death by his wife and a son, Frank Eugene. Survivors include two sons, Robert of Sheridan and Larry of Kalispell, Mont.; a daughter, Mary of Lander; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Haynes died Saturday, Oct. 29, 2005, at her home after a battle with cancer. She was born Dec. 16, 1943, in Junction, Texas, to William H. McNutt and Molly McKellar. She married Clifford Gary Haynes in 1961 in Marfa, Texas. They moved to Sheridan in 1973. She was in the first class of women to attend Texas A&M University and obtained her associate's degree from Sheridan College in 1986. She was a member of the Women of Wyoming investment club, serving as treasurer and vice president. She enjoyed crocheting afghans and creating cross-stitch ornaments for family and friends, attending garage sales and collecting. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Julia George of Sheridan and Marcy Zadina of Wisconsin; a son, Clifford Gray Haynes of Granville, Utah; her father; two sisters, Sara Norton of Blue Ridge, Texas, and Peggy Martin of Mason, Texas; a brother, Alden M. Lowther of Gardner, Mont.; and six grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
