Emme F. Hanshaw

A Christian wake service for Emme F. Hanshaw, 96, of Sheridan will be 7 p.m. Friday at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Name Catholic Church with the Rev. Ron Stolcis officiating. Mrs. Hanshaw died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2006, at her residence. She was born Feb. 18, 1910, in Great Falls, Mont., to John and Pauline (Lousin) Gnidic. She married H. Joseph Lind in 1927 in Butte, Mont. He died in 1961. Mrs. Hanshaw was a certified dental assistant and worked for private dentists in Butte and Seattle and for the University of Washington Dental School. She married Arthur Hanshaw in 1980 in Sun City, Ariz. He died in 1993. Mrs. Hanshaw enjoyed traveling, crafts, dancing, hosting parties and cooking. She was a volunteer at Bozwell Hospital in Sun City. She moved to Sheridan in 2004 and participated in the Council of Catholic Women and St. Joseph's Circle. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a stepson, Bruce Hanshaw, and a brother, Albert Gnidic. Survivors include two daughters, Sister Jean Lind of Sheridan and Shirley Roberts of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a son, Robert Lind of Sacramento, Calif.; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. James Andrew Carl

Former Sheridan resident James Andrew Carl, 81, of Arkansas died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2006, in St. John's Hospital in Berryville, Ark. He was born March 30, 1925, in Sherman, Texas, to John A. Carl and Florence M. Wisdom. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. He worked in oil fields and as a water-well driller and truck driver. He was preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Mae Roselo, and his first wife, Mary Inez Nelson. Survivors include his wife, Melinda Thacker Carl; four daughters, Shirley Kimmel and Vera Heide, both of Sheridan, and Crystal Martin and Lavern Hedges, both of Marble, Ark.; five sons, James Richard Carl and Jerry Arthur Carl, both of Greeley, Colo., Ronny Lee Carl of Jessieville, Ark., Rocky Lane Claude Carl of Calion, Ark., and Allen Ray Taylor of Mountain Pine, Ark.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

 

Olga A. Walker

Graveside services for Olga A. Walker, 94, of Sheridan will be 2 p.m. Friday in Sheridan Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Ron Stolcis officiating. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Walker died Monday, Nov. 27, 2006, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. She was born Feb. 8, 1912, in Hochst, Austria, to Heinrich and Emma (Schneider) Gerer. The family came to the United States in 1927. Mrs. Walker won a marathon from Sheridan to Buffalo in the ladies' category. She worked for Oliver Wallop Sr. before moving to Oregon. She married Ralph Walker in 1932 in Dallas, Ore. They moved to Sheridan in 1945, and Mrs. Walker worked for the Padlock Ranch as a cook. She later ran the restaurant at Sheridan Livestock for five and a half years, then worked for a short time at Bear Lodge. She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed fishing, crocheting, knitting and playing cards. She was a member of Homemakers Circle. She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Darlene Hartman; three sisters, Paula Cass, Stefania Fox and Lina Blankenburg; and a brother, Bruno Gerer. Survivors include two sons, Tom of Sheridan and Jim of Arizona; seven grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Albert Carl Hendrickson

The obituary for Albert Carl Hendrickson, published in Wednesday's Sheridan Press, incorrectly stated funeral services would be conducted by the Rev. Dan Hendrickson, based on information from the funeral home identifying Dan Hendrickson, Mr. Hendrickson's brother, as a minister. He is not a minister. The obituary also omitted mention that Mr. Hendrickson enjoyed spending time with several nephews as well as his nieces.

Albert Carl Hendrickson

Funeral services for Albert Carl Hendrickson, 46, of Sheridan will be 10 a.m. Friday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Dan Hendrickson officiating. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Mr. Hendrickson died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2006, in St. Vincent's Hospital in Billings after a short battle with leukemia. He was born July 30, 1960, in Sheridan to Carl and Helen (Mooney) Hendrickson. He owned and operated Castle Coffee here. He received his master's degree in computer science from the University of Wyoming. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, operating all-terrain vehicles, computers and football, especially Wyoming Cowboy games. He also enjoyed spending time with his nieces and pets. His father died in July 1991. Survivors include his mother of Sheridan; two sisters, Connie Gardner of Columbus, Mont., and Tannis Walker of Sheridan; and a brother, Dan of Lancaster, Pa. Steven Allen Toner

Steven Allen “Scoob” Toner, 53, of Sheridan died Monday, Nov. 27, 2006, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital of natural causes. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Saturday with cremation to follow. Bruce F. Engel

Bruce F. Engel, 59, of Grand Forks, N.D., died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2006, at his residence. He was brother of Bill Engel of Sheridan. Funeral services were Nov. 20 in United Lutheran Church of Grand Forks. Arrangements were with Amundson Funeral Home. Mr. Engel was born Feb. 21, 1947, in Grand Forks to Horace and Frances (Gensrich) Engel. He grew up and was educated in Hatton, N.D., and graduated from high school there in 1965. He attended Mayville State College and graduated from the University of North Dakota. He was a paint contractor at Grand Forks Air Force Base and later worked for Agassiz Enterprises in Grand Forks in 1975. He married Crystal Kolrud on Jan. 12, 1983, in Grand Forks. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and hiking. He did woodworking, carving, welding, stained glass and art. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Kalli Engel of Fargo, N.D.; a sister, Cheyrl Engel of Citrus Heights, Calif.; and another brother, Craig of Grand Forks.

Virginia Reed

Memorial services for Virginia Reed, 89, of Sheridan will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Goodwin officiating. Mrs. Reed died Saturday, Nov. 25, 2006, in Sheridan Manor. Cremation has taken place. She was born Aug. 11, 1917, in Kearney to Melvin and Lillie (Greub) Winingar. She graduated from Sheridan High School and later received a degree in nursing. She worked at Sheridan County Memorial Hospital for 30 years. She married Orlo A. Reed on Feb. 7, 1937. She enjoyed hiking, bridge, knitting and travel. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Jerry; and two sisters, Viola Hinz and Velma Cook. Survivors include two sisters, Melba Harlin of Sun City West, Ariz., and Lorene Schrader of Cheyenne. Jason Dennis Mauck

BUFFALO — Jason Dennis Mauck, 29, of Buffalo died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2006, at his residence. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Mormon Church in Buffalo with Bishop Sean Durant officiating. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. today in Adams Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Willow Grove Cemetery with graveside services. Memorials may be made to an education fund for his four children in care of Adams Funeral Home, 351 N. Adams, Buffalo, WY 82834.

 

Calla `Gene' (Kurtz) Lewis

Sheridan native Calla `Gene' (Kurtz) Lewis, 93, of Meeteetse died Friday, Nov. 24, 2006, in the Powell Valley nursing home. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Meeteetse under direction of Ballard Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Meeteetse Cemetery. Mrs. Lewis was born Jan. 26, 1913, in Sheridan to Martha E. (Packard) and Noah V. Kurtz. She attended Coffeen Elementary School and Sheridan High School and graduated from the University of Wyoming with a teaching degree. She taught schools in Glenrock, Meeteetse and at the EV Ranch cookhouse in Kirby, Mont. She married John Joseph “Jack” Lewis on Aug. 11, 1940. She was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church and its Thrift Shop, Meeteetse Senior Citizens and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her husband and three brothers, Sam, Rodger and Allen. Survivors include two sons, Denny of Meeteetse and Joe of Sheridan; two daughters, Becky Bennett of Meeteetse and Nancy Dearcorn of Dayton; two brothers, James A. Kurtz and Joseph D. Kurtz, both of Washington; a sister, Mary Jane Culver of California; 12 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Anthony Marion “Tony” Arra, 93, of Sheridan died Saturday, Nov. 25, 2006, in Sheridan Manor. Vera Elizabeth Schonenbach

Graveside services for Vera Elizabeth Schonenbach, 83, of Sheridan will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with the Rev. John Stolcis officiating. Mrs. Schonenbach died Friday, Nov. 24, 2006, at Sheridan Manor. She was born Feb. 4, 1923, in Sheridan to John and Grace Foster of Clearmont. She was a 1940 graduate of Sheridan High School. She received training as a teacher, then taught for a year at Murphy Gulch near Clearmont, followed by a year at a school near Birney, Mont. She enlisted in the WAVES (women's Navy) in 1944. Following boot camp in Bronx, N.Y., she helped decode Japanese messages in Washington, D.C., until May 1946, when she was discharged. She worked at the Bones Brothers Dude Ranch at Birney following service. She married John Schonenbach on Dec. 19, 1946, at Holy Name Parish House in Sheridan. They lived on their ranch near Ashland, Mont., until 1969, when they retired to Sheridan. Mrs. Schonenbach was a member of the St. Labre Altar and Rosary Society, Sweet Rocket Garden Club, Ashland Homemakers and Custer Forest Club in Ashland. In Sheridan, she was a member of the Holy Name Council of Catholic Women, Sheridan County Homemakers and Sheridan African Violet Club. She was chairwoman for the Heritage Book published by Sheridan County Homemakers. In 1993, she was chosen as Sheridan County's Quealy member, a Wyoming honor for homemakers club members. She enjoyed raising flowers, sewing, embroidery, photography and attending family gatherings. She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, Keith. Survivors include two sons, Gene of Parkman and Ron of Juneau, Alaska; a daughter, Shirley Schonenbach of Wasilla, Alaska; a brother, Ralph of Clearmont; sisters, Helen Harbel and Lula Reeves, both of Sheridan; and six grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Sheridan Senior Citizens Center, 211 Smith St., Sheridan, WY 82801.

 

Gisela (Scheer) Romanjenko

Memorial services for Gisela (Scheer) Romanjenko, 76, of Big Horn will be 1 p.m. Dec. 9 at the Big Horn Church. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Romanjenko died Friday, Nov. 17, 2006, in Westview Health Care Center of pancreatic cancer. She was born Sept. 13, 1930, in Essen, Germany. She married Ivan Romanjenko on Nov. 18, 1950, in Friedberg, Germany, while he was working for the U.S. Army. The family emigrated to New York City on Jan. 10, 1952. They moved to Iowa, then to a ranch near Biddle, Mont. They moved to Gillette in 1953, where Mrs. Romanjenko worked for the school district. The family moved to Big Horn in 1986. Mrs. Romanjenko was a naturalized American. She and her husband traveled to Russia and Germany in 1989 and 1991. Mr. Romanjenko died in 1994. Mrs. Romanjenko continued traveling with family and friends to Hawaii, Germany, Texas, Alaska and Florida. She also enjoyed going to Mexico with friends every winter and being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She took college classes in foreign languages and computer science. She was a member of Big Horn Church, Big Horn Historical Society, Big Horn Woman's Club, Elks, Eagles, the square dance and polka clubs, Old Time Musicians, American Legion, knitting club, Stitch and Skillet Club, and was a Scout and 4-H leader. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Steven. Survivors include a daughter, Anna Bailey of Gillette; three sons, Peter of Sheridan, Fred of Biddle and Mike of Story; three sisters and two brothers, all of Germany; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Big Horn Church.

 

Charles Vernon Pince

Former Sheridan resident Charles Vernon Pince, 84, of Riverton died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2006, in Sheridan VA Medical Center after a short battle with cancer. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Davis Funeral Home in Riverton. Cremation has taken place under direction of Kane Funeral home of Sheridan. Mr. Pince was born Oct. 25, 1922, in Red Wing, Minn., to Charles Francis and Viola Etta (Johnson) Pince. The family moved to Willow River, Minn., in 1939, and Mr. Pince graduated from high school there in 1940. He served as a ball-turret gunner in a B-17 during World War II. He was shot down over Germany and served one year as a prisoner of war before being liberated by units of the British 2nd Army on May 2, 1945. He moved to Pavillion after the war. He married Halene Landen of Sheridan in 1955. They were divorced. The family moved to Sheridan in 1965 and owned a ranch until 1973, when Mr. Pince moved to Riverton to farm. He retired in 1979. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Francis, Glen and Richard, and a sister, Donna Over. Survivors include a daughter, Lisa Pince of San Leandro, Calif.; a son, Stephen of Riverton; a brother, David of Riverton; a sister, Patricia Zupan of Pittsburg, Calif.; and two grandchildren. James W. “Bud” Roush of Sheridan died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2006, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Ann Leslie Van Trump

A memorial service for Ann Leslie Van Trump, 55, of Sheridan will be 4 p.m. Monday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Van Trump died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2006, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital after a battle with cancer. She was born June 29, 1951, in Minneapolis to Bruce and Elizabeth Betcher. She grew up in Minneapolis and Grand Forks, N.D. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in speech pathology and audiology from the University of North Dakota and was the first speech therapist for the Sheridan public school system starting in 1973. She received her Master of Science degree from the University of Wyoming in 1980. She married Lonnie Van Trump on June 5, 1976. She played volleyball and tennis and enjoyed quilting, books and yoga. She organized a book drive in 1997 to replace books lost by libraries in the flood in Grand Forks that year. She was the 2003-04 Sheridan Central Education Association Teacher of the Year. She visited Sagebrush School as the Energizer Bunny to encourage pupils to never give up and enjoy life, according to her family. She was preceded in death by her mother of Grand Forks and a sister, Barbara Melore of Vancouver, Wash. Survivors include her husband; a son, Ian, and a daughter, Sarah, both of Berkeley, Calif.; her father of Grand Forks; and a brother, John of Minneapolis. Margurette Elizabeth Rickman, 89, of Shell Knob, Mo., died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2006, in Red Rose Inn of Cassville, Mo. She was mother of Claude K. Peterson of Sheridan County and Darla Jean Daly of Big Horn. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Friday in Bridgeway Assembly of God Church in Shell Knob. Arrangements are with Fohn Funeral Home of Cassville. Mrs. Rickman was born March 4, 1917, in Atoka, Okla., to Thomas L. and Olie (Logan) Gregg. She was educated in Edgemont, S.D. She married Claude Anlon Peterson on Dec. 9, 1931. He preceded her in death, and she married John O. “Jack” Parrish. He also preceded her in death. She married James “Hank” Rickman. He preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and later worked as a waitress in California. She enjoyed raising roses and was active in the Senior Community Center in California. She moved to Shell Knob in 2000 and into Red Rose Inn in 2003. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, George D. Peterson; and two brothers, Lawson Roline Gregg and Mervile Kenneth Gregg. Survivors include a second son, John O. Peterson of Shell Knob; a second daughter, Pia Rebecca Lincoln of Lakeside, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

H.M. 'Tom' Harding

H.M. "Tom" Harding, 86, of Sheridan died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2006, at his residence. A private family ceremony is planned. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Harding was born Nov. 30, 1919, in Linton, N.D., to Fay and Celia (Quinlan) Harding. He enlisted in the Army in 1942 and served in World War II as a B-24 radio mechanic in the 8th Air Force. He was stationed in England from 1943 until 1945. He was honorably discharged in 1945 with the rank of sergeant. He moved to Sheridan in 1947. He married Roberta McConville in 1951. They were divorced in 1973. Mr. Harding worked as an accountant for various businesses until 1985, when he retired. Survivors include three sons, David of Lakewood, Colo., Gregory of Palmdale, Calif., and Kevin of Sheridan; a daughter, Joan of Kansas City, Mo.; and two grandchildren. Verna Kansala

Verna Kansala, 83, of Sheridan died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2006, in Westview Health Care Center. Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Olcott Funeral Chapel in Red Lodge, Mont., with private family inurnment in the Roberts (Mont.) Cemetery. Rosamond E. 'Rosemary' Korhel

BUFFALO — Rosamond E. "Rosemary" Korhel, 82, of Buffalo died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2006, at the home of her daughter in Buffalo. A celebration of her life will be 2-6 p.m. Tuesday at 8 Ellis Drive in Buffalo. Private family burial will be later. Arrangements are with Adams Funeral Home. John Kuchera

John Kuchera, 89, of Sheridan died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2006, in Westview Health Care Center of apparent natural causes. No funeral is planned, but a memorial service will be scheduled soon, according to his family. Mr. Kuchera was a longtime Sheridan resident and a sculptor, whose pieces depicting various events of the Lewis and Clark Expedition are on display at area businesses. Survivors include his wife, Esther, and a daughter, Anita, both of Sheridan.

 

Howard `Swede' Goodman

Howard “Swede” Goodman, 82, of Casper died Friday, Nov. 10, 2006, in Wyoming Medical Center of cardiac arrest. He was stepfather of Marilyn Winner of Big Horn and brother of Sadie Robertson, Robert Goodman and Kenneth Goodman, all of Sheridan. Services will be 1 p.m. Monday in Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery. Mr. Goodman was born Dec. 22, 1923, in Portland, Ore. He attended schools in Billings and Big Horn. He served two years in the Army Air Corps, 28th Bomb Squadron, as an aerial gunner. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He earned the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He married Norma Jean Deines in Casper on Oct. 27, 1979. He enjoyed leather craft and, in his younger years, hunting and fishing. He was a member of the American Legion for 28 years. He was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Bury; three brothers, George, Lewis and Virgil; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren. In addition to his stepdaughter and siblings, survivors include his wife; his children, Steven of Fargo, N.D., and Carey, Ardith, Susan and Carol, all of Rapid City; a stepson, Walt Goodman of Emigrant, Mont.; another stepdaughter, Kathleen Taylor of Casper; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jerry Peter Bell

Jerry Peter Bell, 74, of Buffalo died Monday, Nov. 13, 2006, in Johnson County Health Care Center. He was father of Eileen Berning, Lorrie Kraft and Wes Bell, all of Sheridan. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joe Jarvis officiating. Private family burial will follow. Mr. Bell was born Oct. 20, 1932, in Gillette to Robert W. and Sindet O. Bell. He grew up and attended schools in Gillette and Sheridan. He joined the Navy after high school and served during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Sheridan. He married Georgian Marie Bixby on April 9, 1955, in Sheridan. They made their home in Buffalo, where Mr. Bell worked for Mountain Bell telephone company. He retired in 1985 after 30 years. Mrs. Bell died in July 1997. Mr. Bell was an avid fisherman and hunter. He also enjoyed spending time in his boat and with his family. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Robbie; a brother, Bill; a sister, Bert; and one grandchild. He was the companion of Sonny Wangsness. In addition to his three children, survivors a sister, Ramona Eccles of Casper; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Graveside services and inurnment for Patricia P. Sickler, 81, of Sheridan will be 11 a.m. Friday in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with Capt. Lisa Gill officiating. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Tuesday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Sickler died Friday, Nov. 10, 2006, at her residence. She was born March 17, 1925, in Seneca, Neb., to William and Laura (Westering) McKelvey. The family moved to Sheridan when she was a child, and she grew up and graduated from high school here. She was a lab and X-ray technician at the old Memorial Hospital on Saberton Avenue. She left for a time, then returned and worked for the hospital for 35 years as a nurse's aide and ward clerk. She married Henry Sickler Sr. on Dec. 11, 1945, in Hardin, Mont. She was a member of Diamond Rebekah Lodge No. 8/Silver 6, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and Royal Neighbors of America. She was a past noble grand and past district president of the Diamond Rebekah Lodge and a member of the Grand Lodge of Wyoming. She enjoyed bingo, cooking, baking, making candy, reading, embroidery, holidays and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by two sons, Robert William and John Andrew. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Henry Jr. of Sheridan and Ed of Buffalo; three daughters, Mollie Kluver of Recluse and Bessie Moore and Pandy Sears, both of Sheridan; a brother, Don McKelvey of Thornton, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Layton was born March 24, 1952, in Gillette to Edward and Doris (Seeley) Moore. She grew up and attended schools in Moorcroft, Payson, Ariz., and Rosehill, Va., before graduating from Sheridan High School. She also graduated from Sheridan College with an associate degree in computer science. She married Darrell Layton in 1973. They divorced in 1989. She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Eagles Auxiliary and the Women Pilots Association. She enjoyed flying her Glastar aircraft and playing darts. She was preceded in death by her parents and was the companion of Ron Lytton of Sheridan. Survivors include a son, Travis Layton of Rock Springs; a daughter, Holly Munoz of Seattle; a brother, Keith Moore of Sheridan; a sister, Karla Moore of Charlotte, N.C.; and three grandchildren.

Madonna Boley-Keyser

Funeral services for Madonna Boley-Keyser, 69, of Sheridan will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. William Heine officiating. Private graveside services will be Monday in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mrs. Boley-Keyser died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2006, in Sheridan Manor. She was born Aug. 9, 1937, in Gering, Neb., to Elsie (Hoffman) and Vincent Boley. She was active in 4-H and a 1955 graduate, with honors, of Sheridan High School. She received bachelor's and master's degrees in education from the University of Wyoming. She was a member of Kappa Delta Pi, Phi Beta Kappa and Chi Omega. She married Larry W. Keyser on Aug. 31, 1958. They moved to Houston in 1962. Mr. Keyser worked for NASA, and Mrs. Boley-Keyser was a teacher and homemaker. They later divorced. Mrs. Boley-Keyser worked in her churches and enjoyed travel, sewing, working with children, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Veronica Alden and Vicky Overseth. Survivors include a daughter, Kristi Goldston; a son, Kerry "Kent"; a sister, Nadine Gorski; a brother, Neil Boley; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Catholic Cemetery at 2 p.m. Monday. Mr. Herrera died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. He was born Nov. 21, 1924, in Saquache, Colo., to Daniel and Manulita (Cisneros) Herrera. He married Rosie Valdez in Grand Junction. She preceded him in death. He was a diesel mechanic for Anaconda Co. for 23 years and at Decker Coal for 13 years, until 1991, when he retired. He was a member of the Church of the Holy Trinity Anglican Rite-Holy Catholic Church. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and traveling with his wife in their motor home. In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Dan, Joe and Sam; and a sister, Lula Qualis. Georgia Harris, 103, of Sheridan died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2006, in Westview Health Care Center. Cremation has taken place. A private memorial service will be later. Jean Erin Hobein

Former Sheridan resident Jean Erin Hobein, 90, of Anchorage, Alaska, died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2006, in Providence Extended Care Center in Anchorage of natural causes. Graveside services are planned for next summer in Sheridan. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Hobein was born March 17, 1916, in Newcastle to Grover and Christine Taylor. She lived and worked in Sheridan until she married Byron Hobein. The moved to San Francisco while he was in the U.S. Navy, then to Anchorage in 1948. While in San Francisco, Mrs. Hobein worked for the United Nations. She later was bookkeeper for her husband's shoe store in Anchorage. She was a past matron of Chapter 8, Order of the Eastern Star, a member of Pioneers of Alaska, and active in First United Methodist Church. She and her husband traveled the world. She was preceded in death by her husband, a brother, Ty, and a sister, Helen. Survivors include a daughter, Cathy Stewart of Anchorage; a brother, Grover “Bud” Taylor of Juneau, Alaska; one grandson; and four great-grandchildren.

Woodrow `Woodie' Caddell

Woodrow “Woodie” Caddell, 91, of Dayton died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2006, at Sheridan VA Medical Center. Viewing will be until 7 p.m. today at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Dayton Community Church with the Rev. Dennis Goodwin officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mr. Caddell was born Oct. 1, 1915, in Melrose, N.M., to Joe and Luda (Bynum) Caddell. He enlisted in the Army in 1944, served in World War II as a heavy machine gunner in the Pacific Theater, and was honorably discharged in 1946. He married Lottie Buttrell. They divorced. Mr. Caddell operated a farm in Dermott, Texas, for 19 years. He later worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for five years, then worked in the oil fields before moving to Big Timber, Mont., to ranch with his uncle “Shorty” Caddell. He married Johnnie Maples. The family later moved to Wyola, Mont., where Mr. Caddell ranched and drove a school bus for 19 years before moving to Dayton. He was commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10105. He volunteered at the VAMC and enjoyed swimming, travel and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his second wife and a son, Steve. Mrs. Geer was born Dec. 25, 1949, in Sheridan. She grew up and attended schools here. She married Alton Geer on Dec. 31, 1973, in Sheridan. She was a homemaker and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, drawing and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters. Forest “Gail” Parkison, 81, of Dayton died Friday, Nov. 3, 2006, at Sheridan VA Medical Center. He was born Sept. 20, 1925, in Helena, Mont., to Shirley and Lottie (Clawson) Parkison. He enlisted in the Army in 1944 and was honorably discharged in 1946. He married Claudia (Clow) on Nov. 13, 1947, in Crow Agency, Mont. He worked for the Padlock Ranch for 35 years, until 1992, when he retired. He enjoyed fishing, rodeos and being with his family. She was born Dec. 11, 1919, in Lamona, Iowa, to Willard and Amy (Downey) Beck. She attended elementary school in Acme and graduated from Sheridan High School. She received her teaching degree from the University of Wyoming. She married Willard Given on Dec. 29, 1943. He served during World War II, and Mrs. Given lived in Sheridan and taught school in Clearmont. After the war, the family lived in St. Louis for 40 years before moving to Cheyenne. Mrs. Given was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority and United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband; a son, James of Lakewood, Colo.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Sheridan County native Barbara Jean Spence, 66, of Arvada, Colo., died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2006, at her residence. Funeral liturgy will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cheyenne with the Rev. Gary Ruzicka as celebrant. Burial will be in Cheyenne Memorial Gardens under direction of Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes. Mrs. Spence was born Sept. 6, 1940, in Monarch to John A. and Ethel M. Yorio. She was a 1958 graduate of Sheridan High School and attended Sheridan College. She married James A. Spence in June 1960. She went to work for Mountain Bell in Cheyenne in 1978 and at the time of her death was an executive administrative legal assistant with Qwest. She lived in Cheyenne for 20 years before moving to Arvada. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi and St. Mary's Catholic Church and served on the board of the DePaul Hospital Guild. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ for weddings and other events. She was preceded in death by her husband Nov. 7, 1981. Survivors include a daughter, Jayme Rinn of Arvada; a son, Kevin Spence of Green River; a brother, Frank Yorio of Sheridan; and two grandchildren.

Kathleen `Kathy' Voogd

Memorial services for Kathleen “Kathy” Voogd, 62, of Sheridan will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Kane Funeral Home with the Revs. Terral Bearden and Kevin Jones officiating. Mrs. Voogd died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2006, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital after 38 years of battling multiple sclerosis and cancer. Cremation has taken place. She was born Nov. 19, 1943, in Sheridan to Joe and Annie (Woodhead) Harrison. She married Homer Voogd on Aug. 20, 1961, in Sheridan. She worked at Hospital Pharmacy, for Bob Ernst and the Rent-It-Center, and Highland Park School. She enjoyed four-wheeling until she had to quit because of her health. She also enjoyed making afghans and tending flowers. She was preceded in death by an infant brother and a sister, Peggy Voogd. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Todd and Mike of Sheridan; a foster son, Danny Culp of Clearmont; two brothers, Tom Harrison of Gillette and Bill Harrison of Sheridan; a sister, Joan Gossett of Buffalo; three grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
