Mary Gray Lane Buchanan, 78, of Sheridan died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2001, in Westview Health Care Center. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Interment will be in Masonic 43 section of Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mrs. Buchanan was born Feb. 9, 1923, in Rapid City to Ted Richard Lane and Lois Marion Grant. She grew up in South Dakota and New Hampshire and came to Sheridan in 1933. She was a 1941 graduate of Sheridan High School. She worked as a telephone operator for American Telephone and Telegraph in Sheridan during World War II, and spent six months as an operator in Arizona before returning to Sheridan. She married Thomas Earle Buchanan May 25, 1945, in Billings. She served as a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader for many years. She loved classical music and playing the piano, was an amateur botanist and spent hours in the Big Horn Mountains bird-watching and identifying wildflowers. She enjoyed fishing and camping in the Big Horns, reading, china-painting, oil painting and ceramics. She delivered Meals on Wheels for many years and was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution and Cheery Chicks Homemakers Club. Survivors include her husband; a son, Ted of Gillette; a daughter, Nancy Talbott of Gillette; a brother, Walter Vernon Bill Lane of Missoula, Mont.; and five grandchildren. Helen V. Juve, 82, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, at her home in Copley, Ohio. She was mother of Tina Klinkosh of Sheridan. A memorial service was Oct. 20 in Copley, with inurnment Oct. 22 at Rose Hill Burial Park. Mrs. Juve was a member of Copley United Methodist Church and a longtime board member and chairwoman of the YWCA. Survivors include her husband, Robert; another daughter, Jenifer Hemstead of Oceanside, Calif.; one son, Robert Jr., of Laramie; a brother, Jack Vosburg; a sister, Mary Catherine Colwell; and four grandchildren. Lillian Ethel Reese, 87, died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001, at Sheridan Manor. Cremation has taken place, and the family will hold private services at a later date. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Reese was born Aug. 30, 1914, in Mingo Junction, Ohio, to Brewer and Lillie (Mitchell) Thomas. She was a former resident of Follansbee, W.Va., and was a member of the Follansbee United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by two husbands, two brothers and two sisters, all of the Ohio Valley. Survivors include a son, Ernest Brady of Sheridan; a stepdaughter, Marie Cribbs of Follansbee; two granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren.

Thelma Ethel Hyres (Pat) Vaughn, 86, of Sheridan died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001, in Sheridan Manor. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service has not yet been planned. Interment will be in Palm Cemetery in Winter Park, Fla., at a later date. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Vaughn was born May 17, 1915, in Orlando, Fla., to William M. and Mary Irene Hughes (Bartholomew) Hyres. She was preceded in death by two brothers, William M. Hyres Jr. and Milton Benjamin Hyres; and a sister, Edna Irene Hyres Lombardi. Survivors include a son, L. Jeffrey Cook of Sheridan; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Michael Matthew Crilly, 54, of Sheridan died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2001, at his summer home in Big Fork, Mont. Vigil services will be 7 p.m. today at Kane Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Name Catholic Church with Monsignor Eugene Sullivan officiating. Mr. Crilly was born Oct. 6, 1947, in Lincoln, Neb., to James and Dorothy (Felix) Crilly. He was a graduate of the University of Wyoming. He married Barbara Fowler Sept. 2, 1972. He taught business education in Montana and Wyoming schools before becoming personnel manager for Decker Coal. He enjoyed golfing, boating, four-wheeling and sports including coaching young people in football and basketball. He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church and Our Lady of the Pines Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife of Sheridan; a daughter, Kimberly of Phoenix; a son, Scott of Laramie; two brothers, James of Norfolk, Neb., and Timothy of Cheyenne; and a sister, Mary Liz Gale of Sheridan. Memorials may be made to the Mike Crilly Memorial Fund in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801. Funds will go to his favorite charities.
Story-native Robert Merrill Freese, 69, of Pocatello, Idaho, died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001, at his home. Memorial services were Oct. 6 at Henderson Cornelison Funeral Home in Pocatello with the Rev. Tom H. Tate officiating. Mr. Freese was born Feb. 26, 1932, in Buffalo to Myrle Irene and William Merrill Freese of Story. He grew up and attended school in Story and at Sheridan High School. He worked with horses, rodeoed and hunted. He drove trucks for many years until he had to quit due to health problems. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Patricia Morgan; and a grandson. Survivors include his wife, Helen, and children, sisters, brothers and grandchildren.

Annie Willa Cortell Irwin, 79, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2001, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Viewing is until 4 p.m. today. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Kane Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Wetmore of Sheridan Wesleyan Church officiating. Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Mount Pisgah Cemetery in Gillette. Mrs. Irwin was born April 7, 1922, in Rozet to Raymond Wilford and Kathryn May Kottraba. She entered first grade in Rozet, then the family moved to Davenport, Neb., for two years. They returned to Rozet, and she graduated from high school there in 1941. She worked on ranches and taught school during World War II. She married William Russell Irwin May 25, 1944, and they settled in Gillette. He worked for the CB&Q Railroad until 1969, when he retired. They lived in Buffalo until November 1998, when she moved to Sheridan Manor. She enjoyed crocheting, flowers, country music and cats. She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Willa Diane Irwin; a stepdaughter, Dorothy Irwin; and a brother, Leland Kottraba. Survivors include a daughter, Roberta Trenholm of Billings; four sons, Raymond of Douglas, James of Ranchester, Charles of Billings and Duane of Sheridan; a stepson, Leslie of Mayer, Ariz.; a brother, Charles Kottraba of Moorcroft; and three sisters, Leola Thar of Gillette, Helen Whisler of Sheridan and Hazel Riesland of Newcastle; 15 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. Dr. William E. Merrill Jr., 92, of Sheridan died Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Cremation has taken place. A private family burial will be in Parish, N.Y., at a later date. Arrangements were with Kane Funeral Home. Dr. Merrill was born Oct. 9, 1909, to William and Grace (Warner) Merrill in Nichols, N.Y. He was a 1931 graduate of Bucknell University and obtained his doctorate in medicine in 1935 at the University of Rochester. He practiced as a country doctor in upstate New York. He married Dorothy Holbrook in Hornell, N.Y., July 27, 1937. She died in 1971. He married Katherine Showalter Nov. 22, 1973, in Lewisburg, Pa. She died in 1989. He enjoyed classical music, books, Broadway musicals and playing golf and the violin. He was an anonymous philanthropist to many of his favorite charities. Survivors include a son, John, of Sheridan; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Memorials may be made to Dr. William E. Private family graveside services for Grace Darling Pergande, 91, of Sheridan and Phyllis Matilda Tanner, 81, of Sacramento, Calif., will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with the Rev. Doug Goodwin and C.B. Johnson officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Pergande died Sept. 12, 2001, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Miss Tanner died April 4, 2001, in Sacramento. Cremation has taken place for both women. Both requested that they be interred next to their sister, Blanche Clapham, in Sheridan. Mrs. Pergande was born Sept. 30, 1909, in Ridgeway, Mo., to William V. and Mary Nora (Bennet) Tanner. She was an executive secretary in the U.S. government for many years. Miss Tanner was born Sept. 16, 1919, in Ridgeway to William V. and Mary Nora (Bennet) Tanner. They were preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters. Survivors include a brother, Don Tanner of Lebanon, Mo.; two nephews, Walter L. Clapham of Sheridan and Joseph Clapham of Denver; two nieces, Bonnie Tanner of California and Carol Tanner of Pennsylvania; three grandnieces and two grandnephews. Memorials may be made to the Soup Kitchen or the First Christian Church in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank, Sheridan. Frances Ross Frances M. Ross, 69, of Sheridan died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, at Sheridan Manor. Cremation has taken place. At Mrs. Ross request, no services will be held. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Ross was born Jan. 29, 1932, to Paul and Agnes Madzia in Monarch. She attended the Monarch school and in 1949 married Don Arborgast. They divorced, and she later married Paul Ross. She worked as a waitress at the Sheridan Inn, the Sheridan Sandwich Shop, Woodys Restaurant and the City Drive In. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church on Park Street and enjoyed playing bingo. She was preceded in death by a brother, Paul. Survivors include a daughter, Shawnee Arborgast of Boise, Idaho; three sisters, Alice Warnke, Agnes Legerski and Helen Cherni, all of Sheridan; and a brother, John Madzia of Sheridan.
BUFFALO Myrtle Inez James, 75, of Buffalo
died Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, at Johnson County Healthcare Center.
She was sister of Amy Smee of Sheridan. Viewing will be 1-10 p.m.
Thursday and 8 a.m. until time of services Friday. Funeral
services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Adams Funeral Home Chapel
in Buffalo with the Rev. Danny Francis officiating. Burial will
be in Willow Grove Cemetery. Mrs. James was born April 12, 1926,
in Guernsey to Jacob and Nettie Myers. She grew up and was
educated in Buffalo. She married Paul James Oct. 28, 1941. They
made their home in Buffalo. She was preceded in death by her
husband in 1971 and by a daughter, one brother, one sister, a
grandson and a great-granddaughter. Survivors include a son,
Edmond of Buffalo; another sister, Ruth Himbaugh of Yuma, Ariz.;
nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three
great-great-grandchildren.

honor her wishes, her family will scatter her cremains over the

Kansas to John P. and Irma Fox Wood. She married Archie Grooms
Dec. 4, 1947, in Reno, Nev. She enjoyed being a housewife and
homemaker, and enjoyed cooking, flower gardening and spending
time outdoors. Survivors, all of Sheridan, include her husband;
three daughters, Janet Evans, Peggy Schutte and Tammy Ketcham;
six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Memorials may be

John Barry King, 49, of Sheridan died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001, at his residence. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Peters Episcopal Church with Father David Duprey officiating. Inurnment will be at St. Peters Episcopal Church after the service. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Mr. King was born Oct. 19, 1951, in Sheridan to Donald L. and Dorothy E. Dippy Clapp King. He attended the school for the deaf in Chickasha, Okla., when he was 4 years old, and attended schools for the deaf in Casper and Sheridan. He attended Woodland Park Elementary and was a 1971 graduate of Sheridan High School. He was active in high school rodeo and attended the High School National Finals three times. He was National High School champion in 1970, winning the bull riding and all-around. He was National Champion in bronc riding and all-around in the 1971 National High School finals. He attended Sheridan College and joined the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, competing in bareback and saddle-bronc riding. He became a team roper and a partner and saddle maker at Kings Saddlery, where he worked for 32 years. He married Renee Wilson in 1980. He was a member of St. Peters Episcopal Church and the Sheridan Elks Lodge. He enjoyed collecting art and antiques and attending auctions. He was invited to display his leather art in several Cowboy Trappings shows and was named best of show in Alpine, Texas, for a saddle he made. Survivors include his parents of Sheridan; a daughter, Megan; a son, Tyler; and three brothers, Bob, Bruce and Bill. Mae V. Hemphill, 89, of Sheridan died Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, in Sheridan Manor. Viewing is until 5 p.m. today at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Keith McDonald officiating. Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mrs. Hemphill was born Nov. 22, 1911, in Richie, Mont., to Clement and Mary Jane (Sherry) Livingston. The family traveled a few years before settling near Lodge Grass, Mont. She married Glen G. Liming Aug. 13, 1930. They ranched in Montana until 1947, when they moved to Sheridan. She worked as a checker at Safeway and Boyds supermarkets. Mr. Liming died in 1967. She married Frank Hemphill in 1969, and they lived in Alaska for several years. They moved to Sheridan in 1982. Mr. Hemphill died in 1992. Mrs. Hemphill enjoyed cruises and bus tours, reading and crocheting. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Eagles Auxiliary and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by four brothers, a sister and a grandson. Survivors include three sons, Glen Oden Liming of Wray, Colo., Milton Liming of Sheridan and Rodney Liming of Arlington, Wash.; two daughters, Beulah Fackenthall of Ranchester and Norma Geer of Sheridan; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Memorials may benefit First United Methodist Church.
Opal (Farr) Kautter, 97, of Sheridan died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, in Sheridan Manor. Her wishes were to not have any services. Her cremated remains will be scattered in the Big Horn Mountains. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Kautter was born Oct. 2, 1904, in Novinger, Mo., to Everett and Mabel (Bragg) Farr. She was raised in Missouri. The family moved to a ranch near Reed Point, Mont., and she lived there until 1940. She worked at the Mouat Mine near Nye, then lived in Cody. She later moved to Los Angeles where she worked in the hotel and restaurant business. She moved to Billings in 1972 with her sister, and moved to Sheridan in 1976. She was preceded in death by a brother, Floyd, and a sister, Ruth. Survivors include a cousin, Everett Farr of Kirksville, Mo.
Ruby Gertrude Shelley, 92, of Sheridan died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, at Sheridan Manor. Services will be Friday at Mount View Presbyterian Church in Loveland, Colo., with Viegut Funeral Home in charge. Burial will be in Red Oak, Iowa, Monday. Local arrangements were with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Shelley was born Dec. 5, 1908, to Walter and Bertha (Navert) Kellendbarger. She married A. Dale Shelley Feb. 21, 1935, in Rockport, Mo. She moved from Iowa to Loveland in 1975, then moved to Sheridan in March this year. She was a 1926 graduate of Red Oak High School and Cedar Falls College, where she earned a teaching certificate in 1927. She was a homemaker and substitute teacher and volunteered for 20 years at Mekee Medical Center. She farmed in Emerson, Iowa, for many years and owned and operated Emerson Ariel Spray. She was a licensed pilot and former Iowa Flying Farmer Queen. She was a member of the Mount View Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Darlene Stright; two sisters; and one great-grandson. Survivors include three sons, Robert of Sheridan, Gary of Fort Collins, Colo., and James of Buffalo; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
RANCHESTER George Lester Cossitt, 47, of Ranchester died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, at his residence. Cremation has taken place, and private family services will be at a later date. Kane Funeral Home handled arrangements. Mr. Cossitt was born Aug. 19, 1954, in Sheridan to William and Nancy (Daly) Cossitt. He served in the U.S. Army from 1973-76, including in Germany. He married Linda Dobrenz April 16 this year. He enjoyed taking care of his family and friends, shooting, fixing Ford pickups and working at the Otter Ranch in Montana. He also enjoyed playing cards, telling stories, fishing, cutting wood in the Big Horn Mountains, hiking and playing racquetball. He was a member of the National Rifle Association. Survivors include his wife; a stepson, Michael Dobrenz of Sheridan; his parents of Ranchester; two sisters, Barbara Irwin of Ranchester and Rita Mueller of Gillette; two brothers, Brent of Nevada and Loren of Gillette; and two grandchildren.
Former Sheridan resident James W. Bennett Sr., 86, of Cortez, Fla., died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001. Visitation will be noon until 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Bittles & Hurt Funeral Home in Greencastle, Ind. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Greencastle. Brown & Sons Funeral Homes in Bradenton, Fla., handled arrangements there. Mr. Bennett was a retired general contractor. He was a 3rd Degree Master Mason of Big Horn Lodge 43 A.F.&A.M. and 32nd degree York Rite Mason in Sheridan. Survivors include a son, James. W. Jr. of Alliance, Neb.; two stepsons, Thomas Duncan and Timothy Duncan, both of Greencastle; two stepdaughters, Dessa Shinn of West LaFayette, Ind., and Connie Bridges of Cloverdale, Ind.; a sister, Mary L. Silviano Trujillo, 75, of Sheridan died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Rosary services will be 7 p.m. today at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Name Catholic Church with the Rev. Ron Stolcis officiating. Interment will be in the Eagles section of Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mr. Trujillo was born Sept. 12, 1926, in San Luis, Colo., to Jose and Amadita (Montoya) Trujillo. He lived in San Luis until he was 16, when the family moved to Sheridan. He graduated from high school in Sheridan. He married Cirea Sanchez Nov. 21, 1941. He worked for Husman Inc. 46 years, until his retirement. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking and gardening. He was a lifetime member of Eagles 186 and Knights of Columbus Council 2104. He was a member of the CC Camp. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Delia Morales, Celia Rodriguez and Josephine Archuleta. Ruth Gertrude Shelly, 92, of Sheridan died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, at Sheridan Manor. Services will be Friday at Mount View Presbyterian Church in Loveland, Colo., with Viegut Funeral Home in charge. Burial will be in Red Oak, Iowa, Monday. Local arrangements were with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Shelly was born Dec. 5, 1908, to Walter and Bertha (Navert) Kellenbarger. She married A. Dale Shelly Feb. 21, 1935, in Rockport, Mo. She moved from Loveland to Sheridan in 1975. She was a 1926 graduate of Red Oak High School and Cedar Falls College, where she earned a teaching certificate in 1927. She was a homemaker and substitute teacher, and volunteered for 20 years at Mekee Medical Center. She farmed in Emerson, Iowa, for many years and owned Emerson Ariel. She was a licensed pilot and former Iowa Flying Farmer Queen. She was a member of the Mount View Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Darlene Stright; two sisters; and one great-grandson. Survivors include three sons, Robert of Sheridan, Gary of Ft. Collins, Colo., and James of Buffalo; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
James Ernest Huggins Jr., 63, of Sheridan died Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Mr. Huggins was born Sept. 7, 1938, in Chicago to James and Sophie (Doll) Huggins. He married Barbara (Pettit) in Fontana, Calif. He moved to Sheridan from San Bernardino, Calif., nine years ago. He enjoyed camping, auto racing and working at Kendrick Golf Course. He was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church. Former Sheridan resident Helen Thompson, 57, died Thursday, Oct. 11, in Longmont, Colo. A private family service is being planned. Mrs. Thompson was born June 23, 1944, to August and Lydia Kretchman. She married Larry Tibbets Jan. 12, 1963. They later divorced, and she married Stan Thompson in 1979. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Robert. Former Sheridan resident Dr. Don Richard Reed, 81, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, in Tulsa, Okla. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Upton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rick Clair officiating. Burial will be in Upton Greenwood Cemetery under direction of Worden Funeral Directors of Newcastle. Dr. Reed was born Feb. 14, 1920, in Webster City, Iowa. The family moved to Upton and he graduated from high school there. He was a graduate of the University of Wyoming and the University of Nebraska Medical School. After private practice in Anaconda, Mont., and Temple City, Calif., he joined the medical staff of the Veterans Administration Hospital in Sheridan, working in the outpatient clinic until he retired in 1985. He was a member for several years of the board of trustees of Sheridan College and the Masonic Lodge and Lions Club here. He was preceded in death by his son, Don, and three brothers. Survivors include his wife, Margaret, of Tulsa; a son, William, of Tulsa; and three grandchildren.

GILLETTE Former Sheridan resident Frances B. Harrod, 91, of Gillette died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, of natural causes at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mark Jervis of First Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be at Mount Pisgah Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mrs. Harrod was born Dec. 4, 1909, in Seattle to Walter and Nell (Williams) Davis. The family moved in 1910 to Sheridan, where she grew up and graduated from high school in 1927. She attended two years of college. She married Bill Harrod March 23, 1933. They later moved to Gillette, then in 1970 to Greeley, Colo. Mr. Harrod died in 1973. Mrs. Harrod moved to Glendale, Ariz., near her daughter, but returned to Gillette in 1995 as a resident of Pioneer Manor Nursing Home. She was a former member of the benefit club and a member of First Baptist Church, where she was active in the church circle. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, reading, and playing cards. She and her husband enjoyed traveling. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Bob; a brother, William Davis; two sisters, Mildred Drake and Lucille Brokaw; and two grandsons. Survivors include one son, Ralph of Gillette; a daughter, Bettye Griffiths of Glendale, Ariz.; a brother, Jack of Tucson, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He attended Yale University in 1943, took his officers training at Northwestern University and graduated from Ohio University with a bachelor of science degree in 1947. He served in the United States Navy from 1942-46. He married Marilyn Johnson June 27, 1948, in St. Peters Episcopal Church in Sheridan. He was in medical research for the Merck Co. of Rahway, N.J. , before joining the Fidelity Union Trust Co. of Newark, N.J., in 1953. He retired as vice president of the company in 1983, and he and Mrs. Hannon moved to Story. He was a member of Big Horn Mountain Lodge 43 A.F. & A.M., Sheridan Scottish Rite Bodies, Kalif Temple A.A.O.N.M.S., the Story Lions Club, Sales Executive Club and Sons of Ireland in New Jersey and St. Peters Episcopal Church in Sheridan. He was a former member of St. Lukes Choir in Buffalo. He was preceded in death by a sister. Survivors include his wife, of Story; three sons, J. Longtime Clearmont-area resident Roy D. French, 53, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at Campbell County Memorial Hospital in Gillette of a heart attack. Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Arvada School Gymnasium with Pastor Joe Barber officiating. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. today at Wilson Funeral Home, Gillette, and one hour prior to services at the gymnasium. Burial with full military honors by American Legion Post 42 will follow at Arvada Cemetery. Mr. French was born Dec. 15, 1947, in Gillette to Henry John and Della Rae (West) French. He moved at age 5 to Arvada, where he grew up and graduated from high school in 1966. He attended Sheridan College for two years, majoring in forestry. In 1968 he enlisted in the Navy, where he was a jet mechanic. He served overseas on patrol squadron VP 19 during the Vietnam War, and was discharged in 1972. After the service, he bought cattle and acquired a ranch north of Leiter, where he lived until his death. He attended Clearmont Community Church and enjoyed his four nephews, five nieces, five great-nephews and two great-nieces, who survive him. Additional survivors include his father of Buffalo; two sisters, DLynn Schye, Glasgow, Mont., and Ellen Widhalm, Great Falls, Mont.; and two brothers, Delbert French, Arvada, and Sam French, Anchorage, Alaska. Mrs. Redle was born Oct. 5, 1914, in Independence, Mo., to Gilbert Gear and Nellie Herson Postlewait. She was a 1932 graduate of Saint Marys Academy in Leavenworth, Kan., and attended Kansas City College two years. She continued her education studying voice at Cranston School of Music in Kansas City, Mo. She married William D. Redle Oct. 3, 1938, in Independence. They moved to Sheridan. Mrs. Redle volunteered at Holy Name School for many years and helped Mr. Redle schedule accommodations and entertain visiting athletic teams. She taught seventh- and eighth-grade gym classes at Holy Name for many years. She was a lifetime member of the Auxiliary Board of Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County and for many years was in charge of Christmas decorating at the hospital. She also volunteered at the reception desk. Her performance in the lead role of the 1952 Civic Theater Guild production, The Pleasure of his Company, helped earn the Guilds Best Actress Award that year. She also was a past grand prize winner in the Cowbelles Cook-off competition. She enjoyed needlework, reading, cooking, flowers and gardening. She was preceded in death by her husband on Dec. 5; and by an infant daughter, Kathleen, and two brothers, James and Robert Postlewait. Survivors include a daughter, Maurita Meehan of Sheridan; a sister, Sister Maurita Postlewait of Leavenworth; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Marty Lange, 65, of Sheridan died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001, at her residence. A memorial service will be announced later. The family is handling arrangements. Mrs. Lange was born in June 1936 in Minnesota to Margaret and H. Leigh Scruton. She married Ron Sjolin in 1955; they later divorced. She married Ted Lange in Sheridan in 1984. They later divorced but remained friends until his death in 2000. She was preceded in death by two children, Jody and Jeff. Survivors include children Teree Sunshine Wells, Kim Zimmerman, Eric Sjolin and Janelle Dinnitz; four brothers, Bob, John, Gary and Jim Scruton; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Former Sheridan resident Florence Belus Smith, 67, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, at St. Josephs Hospital in Orange, Calif. Vigil services will be 7 p.m. today at Kane Funeral Home. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Stolcis officiating. Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mrs. Smith was born Dec. 21, 1933, to Joseph and Helen (Kobielusz) Belus in Sheridan. After high school, she obtained a masters degree in nursing from the University of Phoenix. She worked as a registered nurse. She enjoyed traveling and the arts, loved roses and collected paperweights. Survivors include two sons, Michael Smith of Silverado Canyon, Calif., and Omar Smith of Phoenix; two daughters, Theresa Teri Roberts of Santa Ana, Calif., and Denise Stenzel of Bozeman, Mont.; her mother of Sheridan; two brothers, James Belus of Sheridan and Robert Belus of Banner; and six grandchildren. BUFFALO Harry Edward Stuckenhoff, 60, of Buffalo died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2001, in a vehicle accident. A celebration of life will be 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, at his ranch, 149 Robinson Canyon Road south of Buffalo. A private family interment will be on the ranch. Former Sheridan resident Cathy Dena McCormack, 36, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001, in Marana, Ariz. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. today at Evergreen Cemetery in Tucson, Ariz. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday. Ms. McCormack was born Oct. 18,1964, to DAun and Kenneth McCormack. She was a 1983 graduate of Sheridan High School. She was preceded in death by her father. Survivors include her mother of Tucson; two sons, Colten Scott McCormack and Branson Chance McCormack; and a sister, Becky Saucerman, of Tea, S.D.
