Peggy George Rulli, 89, of Sheridan died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003, at her residence. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday in St. Peter's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Kevin Jones officiating. Mrs. Rulli was born in Greece in 1914. The family emigrated from Reon, Greece, in 1917, docking at Ellis Island. They traveled across the country to Sheridan, where Mrs. Rulli was raised and educated. She married Joseph Rulli in 1933. The couple celebrated their 50th anniversary with a trip to the old countries with their children and grandchildren, visiting family members in Greece, Italy and other countries in Europe. She lived her entire adult life in the home she and Mr. Rulli built in 1934. She held a number of jobs in Sheridan, including at The Sheridan Press and as secretary to the dean of students at Sheridan College. She was a salesperson at Stevens-Fryberger, working well into her late 70s. She was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church and the church's Red Door and St. Margaret's organization, enjoyed movies, theater and music, travel and cooking. She was preceded in death by her husband, her siblings and a son, Joseph Jr. Survivors include a daughter, Tonia Rulli Burnette of Riverton; a son, Daniel of Washington, D.C.; and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Big Horns, 1401 W. Fifth St., Sheridan, WY 82801, to St. Peter's Episcopal Church or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Donald Edward Sutton, 69, of Sheridan died Monday, Oct. 27, 2003, at his residence. Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of his life will be 6 p.m. Friday at Sutton's Tavern, 1402 N. Main St. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Sutton was born Feb. 9, 1934, in Kemmerer to William Edward and Mary Emily (Clark) Sutton. The family moved to Cheyenne when he was 8 years old. He joined the Navy during the Korean War and graduated from high school while in the Navy. He returned to Cheyenne and began a career as a meat cutter. He married Betsy Merrill in Cheyenne in 1956. She died in 1987. Mr. Sutton moved to Sheridan 10 years ago and worked for Yalowizer Processing as a meat cutter until 1999, when he retired. He was a member of the Methodist Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, dancing, playing pool and spending time with friends. Survivors include two sons, Scott E. Sutton of Sheridan and Rick Merrill of Cheyenne; two daughters, Lisa Merrill of Laramie and Karen Doss of Cheyenne; one brother, Bill of Houston; and two grandchildren. Edith Mae Salisbury, 85, of Sheridan died Friday, Oct. 24, 2003, in Sheridan Manor. A graveside service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Kane Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Mrs. Salisbury was born April 26, 1918, in Biddle, Mont., to James A. and Carrie S. (Hawkins) Geer. She grew up on her father's cattle ranch in southeastern Montana. The family moved to Broadus, Mont., when she was in her early teens, and she later moved to Miles City, Mont. She moved to Sheridan in fall 1969 and worked for Stevens Fryberger, as a cashier at Brown Drug and for several years as head of the gift department at McDonald's Department Store. She married Earl Keith Salisbury June 17, 1988, in Miles City. They made their home in Sheridan. The couple enjoyed traveling through Canada and the Western United States, and Mrs. Salisbury enjoyed dancing, home life and her flowers. She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, Alden Attla Geer. Survivors include a stepson, Richard, of Tucson, Ariz.; two stepdaughters from previous marriages, Carol Barbero and Julie Mitchell; three step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Paul William Gorzalka, 85, of Sheridan died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003, in the Sheridan VA Medical Center. Vigil services will be 7 p.m. Sunday at Kane Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday in Holy Name Catholic Church with the Rev. Ron Stolcis officiating. Burial will be in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mr. Gorzalka was born March 13, 1918, in Sheridan to John and Ann (Sikora) Gorzalka. He enlisted in the Army in June 1942, with the 601st Field Artillery Battalion. He was a member of the First Mule Pack Brigade at Fort Sill, Okla., then went on to Camp Carson, Colo., before joining the Amphibious Force in Fort Orde, Calif. He served in the Aleutian Islands, Luzon and Germany, France, Italy and Austria, served for three and a half years and was in combat five times. He returned to Sheridan and worked for Nelson Construction, the Holly Sugar Factory silos and the Best Out West Flour Mill silos. He started his own herd of cattle in 1940 and raised cattle all his life. He enjoyed spring branding and fall roundup, along with the sale of calves. He enjoyed farming. He used horses to stack his hay for 20 years before buying his first bailer. He enjoyed beer, attending Polish dances, fishing, hunting, playing pool, canning sauerkraut and pickles and raising a big garden. He was preceded in death by five brothers, John, Joe, Tony, Frank and Mike; and by a sister, Mary Manderfeld. Survivors include one brother, Al of Sheridan; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice in care of Brenda Torrens or Nicole Christensen, Community First Bank, P.O. Box 9000, Sheridan, WY 82801.
Todd Moore, 35, of Buffalo died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003, at his residence. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday in St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Buffalo with the Rev. George Greer and the Rev. Dick Edgerton officiating. A private family burial will follow the services. Arrangements are with Adams Funeral Home. Susanna Susie Bailey, 84, of Sheridan died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003, in Westview Health Care Center. Vigil services are 7:30 p.m. today at Kane Funeral Home. Mass of the Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Holy Name Catholic Church with the Rev. Ron Stolcis officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mrs. Bailey was born Feb. 8, 1919, in Kooi to John and Mary Ann (Sikora) Kawulok. She married Franklin C. Bailey Nov. 25, 1924, in Spokane, Wash. She was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church and worked part time as a cook for the rectory at Holy Name and Monarch and for the Holy Name Convent. She was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters, Helen Cieslar and Mary Helms; and a son, Franklin John. Survivors include a brother, John Kawulok of Sheridan; and numerous nieces and nephews. Rodger D. Wagner
Rodger D. Wagner, 67, of Sheridan died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003, at his residence. Cremation has taken place. No services are planned. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Wagner was a lifelong Sheridan County resident and a third-generation rancher on S.R. Creek northeast of Sheridan. He was son of Mike G. Wagner and Mary A. Kuhl and a direct descendant of Carlos Gove, gunsmith and founding father of Denver. In addition to ranching, he worked in Sheridan for the railroad, Jersey Creamery, Holly Sugar and Hammer Chevrolet and for Decker Coal in Montana. Survivors include his wife, Claudette D. Dube; three children; three stepchildren; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Former Sheridan resident Edyith Zoe Vittitow, 73, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, at her residence in Portland, Ore. Services are Friday at Grace Memorial Church in Portland. Mrs. Vittitow was a graduate of Sheridan High School. She married Jack Vittitow in 1949 in St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Sheridan. He preceded her in death. Survivors include her mother, Cleda Janet West of Sheridan; four daughters, Demitra, Janet, Leilani and Kelko; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Former Sheridan and Dayton resident Lloyd G. Hill, 76, of Ponca City, Okla., died Friday, Oct. 17, 2003, in St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Okla. A memorial service took place Sunday in Grace Memorial Chapel in Ponca City. Mr. Hill was born May 19, 1927, in San Pablo, Calif., to Ambrose Hill and Fairy Gladys (Cozad) Hill. He was a 1946 graduate of Holdenville (Okla.) High School. He served in the Merchant Marine before attending the University of Oklahoma, where he earned his bachelor's degree in education and a master's degree in preventive medicine and public health. He married Priscilla Sharp Oct. 7, 1949, in Norman, Okla. Mr. Hill lived in Sheridan for several years while he was an elementary school teacher. He later taught at Central State College of Oklahoma, established the health sciences program in 1969 at Rose State College in Midwest City, Okla., and retired in 1984 after serving as director of the Health Occupations Department at Rose State. The couple lived in Dayton before moving to Ponca City in 2000 to be near their family. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Decki Beckett of Fulton, Miss.; two sons, Dr. Riley Hill of Tulsa and Dr. J. Russell Hill of Ponca City; a brother, Dr. Riley A. Hill of Bixby, Okla.; a sister, Joan Jeter of Denton, Texas; and eight grandchildren.

H. Irene Hammontree, 91, of Sheridan died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003, at her home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Tony Forman officiating. Mrs. Hammontree was born April 1, 1912, in Radville, Saskatchewan, Canada, to John Henry and Alida Pansy (Bergersen) Frickey. The family moved to the United States when she was 4 years old and homesteaded about 40 miles northeast of Moorcroft. They moved to Sheridan when she was about 12 years old, and she attended schools here. She married Carl E. Hammontree April 16, 1933. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and flowers. She was a member of the Half Century Homemakers Club, Akcita Win and the First Christian Church and a past member of BPO Does. She was preceded in death by her husband, in 1990, and two brothers. Survivors include two daughters, Shirley French of Bixby, Okla., and Carlene Hammontree of Sheridan; a brother, Gerald B. Frickey of Loveland, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Kelly Kay Schreibeis, 38, died Friday, Oct. 10, 2003, at her residence after a long battle with breast cancer. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with the Rev. David Duprey officiating. A celebration of her life will be at the Sheridan Center following the service. Ms. Shreibeis was born Feb. 9, 1965, to Kay (Wolfe) Pittman and David H. Schreibeis. She was a 1983 graduate of Sheridan High School and was attending Sheridan College to become a certified massage therapist. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Bud Wolfe, Peggy Hollander and Ed and May Schreibeis. Survivors include her parents and their spouses, Lyle Pittman and Judy Schreibeis; two sisters, Renee Moshier and Lynnet Bede and step-siblings Lori Hink, Tim and Mike Lawson. Margaret Peggy Redburn, 77, of Sheridan died Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, in San Francisco of pancreatic cancer. Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Doug Melius officiating. Private burial will be in Laramie. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Redburn was born March 16, 1926, in Laramie to Walter and Eleanor Reusser. She graduated from the University of Wyoming with a degree in elementary education. She married Dick Redburn Aug. 29, 1926, in Laramie. She taught in Sheridan public schools for 22 years, mostly second grade. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the AB Chapter of P.E.O. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, sister and brother-in-law. She was preceded in death by Mr. Redburn in 1993. Survivors include two sons, Chris of San Francisco and Mike of Bozeman, Mont.; a sister, Katherine Pray of Littleton, Colo.; and three grandchildren. Former Sheridan resident Billy Chad Dillon, 35, of Beulah died Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, at his residence. Cremation has taken place, and private family services are planned in Chadron, Neb., according to family members. Survivors include his parents, Dean and Deb Dillon of Sheridan and Jim and Judy Burri of Lakeside, Neb.; two sisters, Dana of Florida and Jodi of Sheridan; and two brothers, Eric and Adam Enyeart of Lakeside, Neb.

Eugene Lewis Rutledge, 75, of Sheridan died Friday, Oct. 10, 2003, at Sheridan Manor with his cousin Bob Marosok and longtime friend Bob Graves at his side. At his request, no services are scheduled. Burial was Tuesday in the Evansville Veterans Cemetery. Mr. Rutledge was born June 28, 1928, in Dietz to Lloyd and Ann (Matejovitz) Rutledge. He married Mary Branson in 1991. He was preceded in death by his wife and a sister, Wilma Jean. Survivors include his cousin.

Mrs. Redder was born Dec. 1, 1926, in Fairmont, Minn., to Paul and Katherine (Broich) Sommerfield. She grew up and attended schools in Worthington, Minn., and graduated from high school in Canby, Minn., in 1944. She enrolled in the Cadet Nursing Program at St. Mary's College in Minneapolis. She married Vernon M. Redder June 20, 1945, in Wilmont, Minn. The couple lived in Sturgis, S.D., five years and moved to Sheridan in 1956. Mrs. Redder was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church and St. Francis Circle. She enjoyed sewing, playing bingo and cribbage and spending time with her family. She did social work for the Department of Public Assistance and Social Services and did home health care for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, one granddaughter and one grandson. Survivors include five sons, Chuck of Lengby, Minn., Don of Gillette, Steve of Sheridan, Bill of Powell and Scott of Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City; one daughter, Carol Depew of Sheridan; two sisters, Beverly Stassen of Walnut Grove, Minn., and Irene Rudolph of North Branch, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. RANCHESTER Rudy Schilling, 87, of Ranchester died Friday, Oct. 10, 2003, at his residence. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with the Rev. Ronald Nelson officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Schilling was born July 31, 1916, in Ranchester to Otto and Anna (Sperl) Schilling. He grew up on the family ranch and was a graduate of Ranchester High School. He married Patricia Reinhart in 1940. They divorced. He worked for N.A. Nelson Construction as a mason for a number of years, then worked for Randall Construction, KWN Construction and Husman Bros. until he retired to the Schilling family ranch. He married Dorothy Nichols in Buffalo in 1966. She died in 1979. He took care of his longtime companion Pauline Dryden until she died. He enjoyed raising pheasants, peacocks and other birds, hunting, fishing, carpentry and collecting coins and guns. Survivors include a son, Ronald of Tacoma, Wash.; three daughters, Pene Sedelius of Story, Pam Capps of Morgan Hill, Calif., and Lynn Jent of Woodland, Va.; a brother, Otto Jr. of Ranchester; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Robert Dean Moose Bennett, 69, of Sheridan died Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, in Sheridan VA Medical Center. Cremation has taken place, and no services are scheduled. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Bennett was born Jan. 5, 1934, Casper to Patrick and Margarett (Berry) Bennett. He worked as a mechanic, then as a hand on a ranch outside Casper. He enjoyed prospecting. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. Survivors include one brother, Chuck of Houston; a sister, Carolyn O'Herra of Casper; and numerous nieces and nephews.
BUFFALO Dorathy Eileen Kirkland Smith, 81, of Buffalo died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, in New Horizons Care Center in Lovell. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Adams Funeral Home with the Revs. Kirk Peters and Christopher Brandt officiating. Visitation will be 1-10 p.m. today and 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Willow Grove Cemetery with graveside services. BUFFALO Velma Shelton McHenry, 88, of Buffalo died Friday, Oct. 10, 2003, in Johnson County Health Care Center in Buffalo. Walter H. Grubb, 68, of Sheridan died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. At Mr. Grubb's request, cremation has taken place, and no services are planned. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Grubb was born Dec. 20, 1934, in Sheridan to Walter Charles and Avis Maxine (Barber) Grubb. He grew up and attended schools in Sheridan, then ranched. He joined the Air Force in 1958 and was an aerial photographer at Lowery Air Force Base in Colorado. He was discharged in 1962, then worked for McCalla Gas in Broadus, Mont. He retired in 1987 and moved to Sheridan. He married Hazel Hoffman in August 1985 in Sheridan. He was a member of the American Legion and was a ham radio operator, an avid photographer and enjoyed music, hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by his wife. Survivors include a stepdaughter, Marjorie Johnson of Sheridan; a brother, Robert Nelson of Florence, Ore.; sisters Jeanne Marie Dunkin of Victor, Mont., Jeannett Ann Barton of Sheridan and Marilyn Maxine White of Spring, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family moved to Riverton when he was a child, and he grew up and attended schools there. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He returned to Riverton after the service. He married Marlene Wells Oct. 8, 1927, in Lander. He was a truck driver and heavy-equipment operator at the Pathfinder Mine and the Gas Hills. He was preceded in death by his wife, four brothers and two sisters. Survivors include two sons, Tracy of Riverton and Terry of Indiana; five daughters, Diane Barchirch of Riverton, Dee Neu of California, Donna Hoggatt of Nevada, Denise Olson of Utah and Darla Shepardson of Sheridan; one brother, Les of Lander; a sister, Doris Drake of Riverton; 22 grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Stricker, 82, of Torrington died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003, at her residence. She was mother of Patti Sellenrick of Sheridan. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Torrington with Pastor Marvin Temme officiating. Burial will be with military rites in Valley View Cemetery. Visitation is until 7 p.m. today and 9-11 a.m. Thursday at Colyer Funeral Home in Torrington and in the church before services. Mrs. Stricker was born July 14, 1921, in Independence, Mo., to Roy and Hazel (Winfrey) Kennedy. She was raised in Kansas City, Mo., and graduated in 1939 from Central High School there. She served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-45 at Pearl Harbor. She married David Stricker Feb. 17, 1946, in Kansas City, Mo. They moved to Bayard, Neb., and farmed for nine years before moving to a farm in the Huntley area. She moved to Torrington in 1995. She was an active 4-H leader for many years. Her husband preceded her in death. Other survivors include a son, Jim of Torrington; another daughter, Barbara Jones of Torrington; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

DAYTON Peter Donston, 66, of Dayton died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, in Deaconess Hospital in Billings. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Miller officiating. Mr. Donston was born Aug. 7, 1937, in Waterbury, Conn., to Earl and Mary (Buckingham) Donston. The family moved to Sheridan when he was a child. He graduated from Sheridan High School in 1955, then went to work for Eatons' Ranch. He later worked for Mid-Continent Oil Co. He married Anne Davies May 25, 1968, in Dayton. They lived in Sheridan until 1974, when they moved to Dayton. Mr. Donston worked for Metz Beverage, then went to work for Mullinax Concrete in 1977. He was a member of the Big Horn Mountain Eagles Lodge. He enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles, gardening (especially tomatoes) and visiting with friends. He was preceded in death by Mrs. Donston in 1987; a daughter, Nancy; a sister, Ann Rawlings; and two brothers, Alan and Alden. Former Sheridan resident Eva A. Dennis, 94, died Friday, July 25, 2003, in Yuma (Colo.) Life Care. Funeral services were July 30 in Baucke Funeral Chapel in Yuma with the Rev. James Webb officiating. Burial was in Yuma Cemetery. Mrs. Dennis was born Feb. 7, 1909, in Gillette to John J. Grant and Ellen Turner, who homesteaded in 1886. She was a 1928 graduate of Campbell County High School and attended Grand Island (Neb.) Business College for three years. She returned to Gillette and worked as a legal secretary before she married Henry J. Dennis. The couple made their home in Sheridan, where Mr. Dennis was a conductor on the Burlington passenger train. Mrs. Dennis moved to Yuma in June 1974 after the death of her husband, to be near family. She enjoyed attending auctions and playing bridge. She was a member of Sheridan's Naomi Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Presbyterian Church in Sheridan. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant brother; a sister, Ethel Grant Dukes; and a granddaughter. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Ellen Weathers; a granddaughter; and one great-grandson.

Philip R. Barker, 82, of Sheridan died Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, in Sheridan VA Medical Center following a heart attack. Christian wake service will be 7 p.m. today at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Thomas Ogg officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Elks Cemetery with military rites by the Wyoming National Guard and the American Legion. Mr. Barker was born July 25, 1921, in Parkman to George and Ernestine (Jaccar) Barker. He served in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was trained as a pilot. He married Bonnie Muller of Sheridan Feb. 11, 1946. He worked briefly for his brothers in Barker Bros. Construction. The company built reservoirs and other projects throughout northern Wyoming and southern Montana. Mr. Barker took auto-body training in 1946 and worked for Cook Ford Sales and Riley Motor Co. before founding Barker's Auto Body in the early 1970s. He operated the business until 1992, when he retired due to health. He enjoyed outdoor pursuits, including hunting and fishing, and fished in Alaska and the Northwest Territories. He and his wife made several trips to Hawaii. Mr. Barker was an avid gardener and became fascinated with tree culture in his later years. He was a longtime member of Sheridan Elks Lodge and American Legion. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gabriel and Joseph, and by a great-grandson. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Patricia Ann Barker Lawrence of Basin and Carol LeResche of Clearmont; three brothers, George, Robert and Eugene, all of Sheridan; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Jane Benzel, 69, of Sheridan died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Mrs. Benzel was born Jan. 8,1934, near Scottsbluff, Neb., to Peter and Lydia Schaneman. She grew up and received her education in the St. Xavier, Mont., area. She married Harold Benzel Jan. 13,1952, in Hardin, and the couple made their home on the family farm north of Hardin for 42 years. They moved to Mabton, Wash., in the 1970s, and they owned and operated a vineyard before returning to Hardin in 1982. She enjoyed gardening and being with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Nancy Hoff; a grandson; and brothers Elmer, Jim and Harvey Schaneman. Survivors include a son, Greg of Dayton; a sister, Janet Peterman of Washington; three brothers, Frank, Jack and Don Schaneman, all of Washington; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in the Big Horn Mountains, leather work and recording TV movies. He provided a large elk-hunting camp so others could stay and hunt with him. He played Santa Claus every year for the annual Dog and Cat Shelter Pet Pictures with Santa benefit. Survivors include two sons, Paul of Wimbledon, N.D., and James of Coeur D'Alene, Idaho; a sister, Shirley McPheeters of Sheridan; and a brother, Don of Sheridan.

Former Sheridan area resident Clarence Schuyler Scollard, 86, of Gillette died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, in North Suburban Medical Center in Thornton, Colo., of natural causes. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday in First Presbyterian Church in Gillette with Pastor Joel Wright officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. A private family burial will be in Willow Grove Cemetery in Buffalo. Arrangements are with Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home of Gillette. Mr. Scollard was born Feb. 27, 1917, in Outlook, Mont., to Charles and Hattie (Hoppins) Scollard. He grew up and was educated in the Sheridan area. He served with the 8th Army Air Force in England as a tail gunner on a B-24 during World War II. He was shot down over Germany and taken prisoner of war for several months. He married Edith Voiles Aug. 28, 1944, in Wichita, Kan. Mr. Scollard worked for Mobile Oil most of his life until he retired to Gillette. He enjoyed hunting, collecting coins and his miniature dachshund, Copper. He was preceded in death by his wife and two sons, Steven and Randy. Survivors include two sons, Bruce of Denver and Greg of Washington, D.C.; three brothers, Glen of Grand Junction, Colo., Rex of Janesville, Calif., and Robert of Rockland, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Frank A. Boyko, 89, of Sheridan died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Vigil service will be 7 p.m. today at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with the Rev. Ronald Stolcis officiating. Mr. Boyko was born Sept. 27, 1914, in Kooi to Frank and Mary (Wayla) Boyko. He worked many years on power lines in Wyoming, Colorado and Montana. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 322 and Holy Name Catholic Church. He enjoyed reading and playing solitaire. He was preceded in death by two wives, Clara and Birdie; five sisters, Agnes Neff, Anna Haler, Ida Nussbacher, Francis Grimshaw and Eva Boyko; and two brothers, John and George. Survivors include a daughter, Clara Boyko of Sheridan; a brother, Joe of Worland; a sister, Lois Etchechoury of Sheridan; one grandson; and three great-grandchildren.

Sheridan native Matthew David Carter, 22, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, in Fort Collins, Colo. A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday in Timberline Church in Fort Collins. Arrangements are with Bohlender Funeral Chapel. Mr. Carter was born Feb. 19, 1981, in Sheridan to John L. and Nicki Carter. The family moved to Fort Collins in 1993, and he was a 1999 graduate of Poudre High School as an International Baccalaureate Scholar. He was a student in Front Range Community College and Colorado State University at the time of his death. He planned a career in business and was a charter member of Gamma Beta Phi Society, an honorary business scholastic society at CSU. He enjoyed traveling, and his travels ranged from Washington, D.C., to Belize and Hawaii. He studied rain forest ecology and marine biology in Belize. He also enjoyed snowboarding, golf and scuba diving and was a member of Diver's Alert Network. He was preceded in death by a brother, Aaron; and by grandparents Homer F. Ketcham, John R. Carter and Joy Carter. Survivors include his parents; a brother, Noah; a sister, Laura; a grandmother, Margaret Ketcham of Sheridan; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
CLEARMONT Former Clearmont resident Kenneth Anthony Bates, 84, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, in Westview Healthcare Center in Sheridan. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Adams Funeral Chapel in Buffalo with the Rev. Charles Taylor officiating. Visitation will be 1-10 p.m. Friday and 8-9:30 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Willow Grove Cemetery. Mr. Bates was born Oct. 17, 1918, in Clearmont to Claude and Rosalee Bates. He grew up and was educated in Clearmont and was a 1936 graduate of Clearmont High School. He joined the Army in 1942 and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
He married Shirley Rasmussen March 27, 1950, on the family ranch near Clearmont. They remained on the ranch until 1990, when they moved into Clearmont. Mrs. Bates died in January 1995. Mr. Bates moved to the Veterans Home of Wyoming in Buffalo in 1999. He had been at Westview four days at the time of his death. He loved ranching, fishing, hunting and the outdoors. He also made jewelry. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
Survivors include two sons, Fritz of Clearmont and Ole of Slana, Alaska; a brother, Lyle of California; a sister, Virginia Kraen of Casper; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
