Frances Ovidia Engel
Frances Ovidia Engel, 87, of Hatton, N.D., died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004, in the Tri-County Nursing Home in Hatton. She was mother of Bill Engel of Sheridan. Funeral services were Tuesday in St. John Lutheran Church in Hatton. Burial was in St. John Cemetery with arrangements by Bilden Funeral Home of Hatton. Mrs. Engel was born June 7, 1917, near Hatton to Cora (Setter) and Otto Gensrich. She was a 1935 graduate of Hatton High School and attended Mayville State Teachers College. She married Horace Engel on March 9, 1938. They lived in Montevideo, Minn., for a year before settling in Hatton. Mrs. Engel worked as a nurse's aide at the Mayville Union Hospital from 1961-75. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and the Hatton Homemakers Club. She was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters, Phebe Green and Cecile Duncan; a brother, Lee Bud Gensrich; and an infant brother. Other survivors include two other sons, Bruce and Craig, both of Grand Forks, N.D.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Steven L. French, 49, of Sheridan died Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004, at Sheridan VA Medical Center. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Wilbur Holz officiating. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. French was born Dec. 4, 1954, in Sheridan to Arthur and Mildred (Mock) French. He attended Sheridan public schools. He served with the Seabees. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, four-wheeling, stock car racing and spending time with his friends. He was preceded in death by his father; two brothers, James A.M. and Timothy A.; and a half brother, Arthur A. Jr. Survivors include two sons, Stevie of Montana and Mineo of Nebraska; his mother; a sister, Jean Brunckhorst of Glasgow, Mont.; five brothers, Jeff of Sheridan, John of California, Marvin and Raymond, both of Montana, and Richard of Hawaii; a half brother, Leland of Montana; and three half sisters, Jacqueline of Oklahoma and Kathy and Jamie of Montana. Former Sheridan resident Patrick James (Jim) Brannan, 58, of Austin, Texas, died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004, after a 12-year battle with cancer, according to his family. Mr. Brannan was born Nov. 14, 1945, in Baker, Ore., to Polly West and Patrick Lewis Brannan. The family moved to Wyoming. He married Sharon Randolph on Aug. 31, 1963. They later moved to Sheridan. Mr. Brannan was a 1971 graduate of the University of Wyoming and worked for Peter Kiewit & Sons for more than 31 years as an estimator and engineer. He enjoyed running and fishing. He ran in three marathons. He played the guitar and was in a rock band in high school and college. He also enjoyed camping with his family, backpacking, rock climbing and mountain biking in the Big Horn Mountains. He built two houses. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Michele Goerke of Glenrock and Angela Brannan and Jennifer Espericueta, both of Austin; a son, Steven of Dallas; his mother, of Boise, Idaho; three sisters; and six grandchildren.

Former Sheridan resident Marilyn Alice Miller, 78, of Rock Springs, died Monday, Oct. 25, in Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County in Rock Springs. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Fox Funeral Home in Rock Springs with Eddie Kiggan officiating. Burial will be in Rock Springs Municipal Cemetery. Visiting hours will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to services Friday. Mrs. Miller was born March 18, 1926, in Midwest to Theodore and Inez Wages Moffett. She attended schools in Sheridan. She married Edward H. Miller on Oct. 19, 1942, in Hardin, Mont. The Millers ranched in Sheridan for 32 years. Mr. Miller died in 1975. Mrs. Miller's interests included her grandchildren, crocheting, reading, camping, gardening, outdoors and canning. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a great-grandson. Survivors include a son, Edward of Gillette; three daughters, Carolyn Lee Halstead of Rock Springs, Sandra Kay Holt of Baggs and Evonne Christine Colvin of Rock Springs; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Barbara Fraley, 59, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004, in St. Vincent's Hospital in Billings. She had lived at Sheridan Manor since 2003. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in the Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo with the Revs. George Greer and Dick Edgerton officiating. Visiting hours will be 1-10 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Willow Grove Cemetery, Buffalo. Mrs. Fraley was born Oct. 12, 1945, in Buffalo to Bob and Marvel Lepper. She grew up and attended school in Buffalo and was a 1963 graduate of Johnson County High School. She married Dick Fraley June 15, 1963. They made their home on the family ranch south of Buffalo. Mrs. Fraley drove a school bus for several years. She became children's librarian at the Johnson County Library in 1976 and was promoted to library director in 1981. She retired from the library in 1996. She lived on the family ranch until moving to Sheridan Manor. She enjoyed reading, sewing, crafts and playing with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her stepfather, Ralph Roe. Survivors include her husband of Buffalo; a son, Mike of Buffalo; a daughter, Jona Lee Focht of Soldotna, Alaska; two sisters, Judy Schreibeis of Sheridan and Mary Lynn Lamberts of Redding, Calif.; a half sister, Kathy Way of San Jose, Calif.; two half brothers, Robert Lepper of Wolf Point, Mont., and Steven Roe of Sheridan; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Patricia A. Johnston, 74, of Ranchester died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004, in Albuquerque, N.M. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with Pastor Dan Keller officiating. Burial will be in the Elks Section of Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Johnston was born June 20, 1930, in Livingston, Mont., to William and Ruth (Ponath) Hughes. The family moved to Sheridan when she was 12 and started Hughes Grocery on Smith Street. Mrs. Johnston was a 1948 graduate of Sheridan High School. She attended the University of Montana, majoring in music, and later attended the University of Wyoming. She was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority in Montana and was the 1950 Sweetheart of Sigma Chi at UW. She was a member of the Methodist Church, and she and her mother provided music for many church occasions. She also participated in musicals and performances. She was a member of Job's Daughters and first runner-up for Miss Wyoming. She married Raymond V. Johnston in 1950. They moved to Ranchester. She belonged to the Fine Arts Club, Ranchester Women's Club and the Wyoming Horseshoes Pitching Association. After her children were old enough, she returned to work as bookkeeper for the family's V.C. Johnston Lumber Co. Her hobbies included art, hunting and fishing. She was preceded in death by Mr. Johnston in 1999. Survivors include three sons, Greg of Sheridan, Brad of Ranchester and Jeff of San Diego; a daughter, Cindy Daly of Corrales, N.M.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Elmer Leroy Street Streitmatter, 50, of Sheridan died Friday, Oct. 8, 2004, at Sheridan VA Medical Center. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service was Oct. 11 at the Cheyenne Christian Center. Cremains will be buried in the Streitmatter Cemetery in Princeville, Ill. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Streitmatter was born June 20, 1954, in Peoria, Ill., to Raymond and Vivian Streitmatter. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1971 until his honorable discharge in 1973. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Leonard; and two sisters, Helen Legg and Dorothy Davis. Survivors include four daughters, Staci Price of Huntsville, Ala., and Shawna, Jazma and Autumn, all of Cheyenne; a son, Aaron of Cheyenne; and four sisters, Peggy Schauble, Patricia Hay, Alice Dubois and Dianne Elmore, and a brother, Raymond, all of Illinois.
Former Sheridan resident Christine Christy Ekwall of Rawlins died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, at her residence, according to family members. Cremation has taken place. Survivors include her husband, Mickey; a son, Chris Herman of Billings; and her parents of Nevada.
Lois Ann Sanders, 94, of Buffalo died Friday, Oct. 22, 2004, in Johnson County Health Care Center. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery Chapel in Cheyenne with the Rev. Doug Stahl of Buffalo officiating. Visitation will be in the Memorial Gardens Chapel from 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday. Arrangements are with Adams Funeral Home of Buffalo. Joseph J. Klinkosh, 85, of Sheridan died Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Cremation has taken place, and private family memorial services will be later. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Klinkosh was born Aug. 18, 1919, in Sheridan to John J. and Bertha (Bantle) Klinkosh. He married Dorothy Jean Betty Doyle in Hardin, Mont. He entered the U.S. Army and served until 1944, when he was honorably discharged. He was a mechanic at Cook Ford for 25 years until 1984, when he retired. He enjoyed spending time with his family and helping with mechanical problems. He was preceded in death by his wife; a brother, Frank; and a sister, Marie Bilyeu. Survivors include a son, Keith of Dayton; a daughter, Sharon Buss of Sheridan; and five grandchildren.
BUFFALO Roberta Bert Bettinger, 73, of Buffalo died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004, in Johnson County Health Care Center. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Adams Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Bob McHenry and Pastor Joe Jarvis officiating. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. Tuesday and 8-9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Willow Grove Cemetery with graveside services. Robert James Ebert, 74, of Sheridan died Monday, Oct. 11, 2004, in Sheridan VA Medical Center. At Mr. Ebert's request, cremation has taken place, and no services are planned. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Ebert was born March 15, 1930, in Miles City, Mont., to Alfred Waldo and Monica (Peter) Ebert. He was a graduate of Miles City High School. He was a carpenter and U.S. Army veteran. Survivors include a daughter in California.

Marlene Donoho, 64, of Sheridan died Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004, at her residence. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. David Duprey officiating. Mrs. Donoho was born April 4, 1940, in Dalles, S.D., to Alfred and Freida (Hauf) Bettcher. She married James Everett Donoho in 1956. She operated a restaurant in Decker, Mont., for some time and later worked several years here at Memorial Hospital as a nurse's aide. She enjoyed raising flowers, sewing, crocheting and crafts, attending stock car races and camping and fishing in the mountains with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Donald, David and Larry Bettcher. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Kathryn Talcott of Anchorage, Alaska, and Debra Evanoff of Sheridan; two sons, Everett and Jason, both of Sheridan; her father of Sheridan; three brothers, Kenneth, Roger and Dennis Bettcher, all of Sheridan; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Margaret Clearwater Powers, 74, of Sheridan died Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Rosary will be recited 7 p.m. Wednesday at Kane Funeral Home. Mass of the Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Name Catholic Church. Burial will be in Sheridan Elks Cemetery. Mrs. Powers was born May 31, 1930, in Dearborn, Mich., to Victor B. and Anna (Kuzara) Eccli. The family moved to Sheridan in 1932, and Mrs. Powers grew up in Sheridan. She was a 1948 graduate of Sheridan High School and went to work in a public accounting office the day after graduation. She married Robert W. Clearwater in 1951. In 1956, Mrs. Powers moved to Cody to work as a secretary at Husky Oil Co. She returned to Sheridan in 1960 and worked in the same accounting office where she began her career until March 1972. Mr. Clearwater died in 1967. Mrs. Powers married John T. Powers in 1972. That same year, she went to work as a bookkeeper at Sheridan Commercial Co. Mr. Powers died in January 1977. Mrs. Powers worked at Sheridan Commercial until February 1997, when she retired. She enjoyed working in her yard and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, Mike; a daughter, Vicktoria Ann; and a granddaughter. Survivors include five sons, Gary and Jim Clearwater, both of Sheridan, Robert Clearwater of Colorado, Dan Clearwater of Appleton, Wis., and Richard Clearwater of Warner Robbins, Ga.; a daughter, Kelly Bowen of Ranchester; two brothers, Robert Eccli of Orlando, Fla., and Rick Eccli of Cheyenne; 15 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Elysee Vernetta (Sheets) Pearson, 80, of Sheridan died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, in Sheridan Manor. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Revs. Ronald Nelson and Wilbur Holz officiating. Committal of cremains will be in Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery in Evansville. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Pearson was born Aug. 18, 1924, in Oak Creek, Colo., to Harold Elsworth and Dora Muriel (Tweety) Sheets. She grew up and attended schools in Superior and was a 1939 graduate of Superior High School. She married Raymond Alfred Pearson on Nov. 8, 1942, in Ayer, Mass. They lived in Longmont and Westminster, Colo., before moving to Sheridan in 1960. Mrs. Pearson worked at Sheridan Memorial Hospital for 12 years as a dietary aide. She was a member of the Foster Grandparents Program and volunteered at Sagebrush Elementary School. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, taught Sunday school, and belonged to various choirs in the church and the quilting group. She also was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, served as VFW Auxiliary chaplain, and had been a deputy representative for volunteers at Sheridan VA Medical Center. She was an avid Bronco fan and enjoyed playing cards, fishing, gardening, baking, bird-watching, crocheting, sewing and caring for her dogs. She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Rudolph W. of Sheridan and Raimon L. of Westminster; three daughters, Deanna R. Pearson of Christiana, Tenn., Madelene J. Wilson of Sheridan and Judy L. Wells of Salem, Va.; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. L. Terry Thurber, 52, of Sheridan died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, as the result of an automobile accident on Interstate 25 near Glenrock. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with the Revs. David Duprey, Ray Clark and Kevin Jones officiating. Inurnment of cremains will be in St. Peter's Columbarium. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Thurber was born Dec. 23, 1951, in Sheridan to Leo and Edith (Moss) Thurber. He grew up and attended schools in Sheridan and was a 1969 graduate of Sheridan High School. He was a 1982 graduate of Boise State (Idaho) University, with a degree in communications. He was a radio talk show host in Spokane, Wash., where he was known as Terry Holiday, and had returned to Sheridan for a short time. At the time of his death, he was moving to Phoenix, where he planned to attend school. He played American Legion baseball in his high school years and was an avid baseball fan. He enjoyed playing golf. He was preceded in death by his father and one sister. Survivors include a daughter, Courtney of Kingston, N.Y.; his mother of Sheridan; a brother, Michael Hicks of Phoenix; and a sister, Susan Beckwith of Sheridan. Former Sheridan resident John E. Jack Motica, 79, of Grand Junction, Colo., died there Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, of natural causes. Funeral services and burial were Oct. 12 in Grand Junction. Mr. Motica was born Sept. 23, 1925, in Monarch to Joseph and Katie (Lukesic) Motica. He was a 1943 graduate, with honors, of Sheridan High School and a 1948 graduate of the Colorado School of Mines with a degree in engineering. He was mine engineer for Sheridan-Wyoming Coal Co. at Monarch from 1949-53. He was chief geologist for the Colorado Plateau Division of Union Carbide from 1954-67 in Grand Junction. He joined Ranchers Exploration and Development in Albuquerque, N.M., as vice president of geology. He was appointed president and chief operating officer in 1980. He retired in 1985 and returned to Grand Junction. Mr. Motica was a passionate golfer from the age of 7 and was Grand Junction's city golf champion for several years. He was preceded in death by a brother and an infant son. Survivors include a son, Jack of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; two daughters, Jane Raleigh of Valencia, Calif., and Kate Chimenti of Los Gatos, Calif.; a sister, Jean Buell of Sheridan; and four granddaughters.

Stella Dow, 83, of Big Horn died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2004, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Stolcis officiating. Cremation will follow. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with military honors. Mrs. Dow was born Sept. 25, 1921, in Acme to Joseph and Anna (Boyko) Juroshek. She joined the Women's Army Corps in 1943 and served in the Pentagon's printing department in Washington, D.C., during World War II. She marched in President Roosevelt's funeral procession. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially caring for her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by seven siblings. Survivors include three children, Alan L. Bruce Grainger Rockwood, 67, of Sheridan died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, in the Sheridan VA Medical Center. Graveside committal services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in Yellowstone Valley Memorial Park in Billings. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Rockwood was born Sept. 21, 1937, in Saginaw, Mich., to Byron and Helen (Grainger) Rockwood. He graduated from high school in 1955 in Fargo, N.D., and was a 1961 graduate of North Dakota State University. He married Eileen Horner in 1962. They divorced. He married Bonnie Owen in 1979 in Billings. He was transferred to Sheridan by Peter Kiewit Sons Co. He retired after 28 1/2 years with the firm. He and Mrs. Rockwood spent winters in Mesa, Ariz., after he retired. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, playing golf and softball, bowling and watching Michigan Wolverine football. He was an avid hockey fan, especially of the Detroit Red Wings and Phoenix Coyotes. He was preceded in death by a brother, Byron James; a sister, Beverly; and a son, James. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Brad Owen and John Rockwood, both of Phoenix; three daughters, Lori Frank and Diane Canton, both of Billings, and Cora Engstrom of Kingman, Ariz.; a sister, Barbara Bauer of Tucson, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Stanley L. Pankoski Jr., 51, of Story died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004, in the Big Horn Mountains. A memorial service took place Monday in Westminster, Colo. Arrangements were with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Pankoski was born Jan. 11, 1953, in Westminster to Stanley L. and Donna (Hemet) Pankoski Sr. He was a concrete contractor and owned and operated Patriot Concrete at the time of his death. Survivors include his longtime companion, Mindy Brown, and her children, Jonathan and Chandra, all of Story; his parents of Westminster; two sons, Jeremy of New Mexico and Jason of Westminster; two brothers, Lonnie of Colorado and Danny of Alaska; two sisters, Donde of Colorado and Terry of Texas; and three grandchildren.

Francis Cap Rawlings, 89, died Monday, Oct. 11, 2004, at his Sheridan residence. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. David Duprey officiating. Mr. Rawlings was born March 9, 1915, in Sheridan to Charles C. and Florence (Bay) Rawlings. He was a lifelong resident of Sheridan County, spending most of his life in the Ranchester area. He was a 1933 graduate of Ranchester High School, then worked at the family dairy until 1935, when he was employed at the U.S. Government Experiment Farm near Huntley, Mont., for two years. He returned to Ranchester in 1937 and started a career as a banker, working at Ranchester State Bank until 1977. He started as janitor/teller/bookkeeper for the bank and moved up to chairman of the board of directors. He also was treasurer for the town of Ranchester. He was a partner in the Rawlings Realty and Insurance Agency for many years. He married Elizabeth Marie Catterall Aug. 2, 1941, in Hardin, Mont. She died April 28, 1997. He was a life member of Sheridan Elks Lodge 520 and a 35-year member of Dayton Odd Fellows Lodge. He was a charter member of the Dayton and Ranchester Rotary clubs and the Tongue River Rod and Gun Club. He enjoyed golf, bowling, fishing, hunting, travel and dancing. In addition to his wife, Mr. Rawlings was preceded in death by two brothers, Byron B. and Robert L., both of Sheridan, and a daughter, Judith Richie. Survivors include three daughters, Rebecca Tetschner of Sheridan, Florence Sundquist of Ranchester and Julie Caywood of Dayton; four sons, Charles C. 2nd and Dale R., both of Sheridan, James W. of Broomfield, Colo., and Lanis T. of Dayton; a sister, Hazel R. Big Horn native Jack D. Conley, 84, of Dubois died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, in Riverton Memorial Hospital. Memorial services are pending with Davis Funeral Home of Riverton. Mr. Conley was born Aug. 10, 1920, in Big Horn to William O. and Mary Jane (Emerson) Conley. He was a 1938 graduate of Big Horn High School. He married Beulah L. Landen on June 14, 1941, in Hardin, Mont. He worked for the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, starting as a temporary warden on the Littlehorn on the Montana/Wyoming border. He was a temporary assistant at the Story Fish Hatchery before becoming a permanent assistant there in 1942. He transferred to Dubois in 1946 as hatchery superintendent. In 1954, he was transferred to Boulder as supervisor for the hatcheries of the Southwest Wyoming region. He returned to Dubois in 1956 when the Dubois hatchery was added to the southwest district. He retired from the Wyoming Game and Fish Department in 1982. He was an honorary member of the Great Plains Fisheries and a member of the Wyoming State Snowmobilers Association Sour Doughs, the Dubois Sno-Katters and the Dubois Lions Club. He was marshal for the Dubois Fourth of July Parade and was a member of the Wyoming Game and Fish Retirees Association. He established a free-fishing section for youngsters on Horse Creek through Dubois. He was a member of the Dubois school board for six years and served as the board's clerk, coached basketball for the Dubois elementary and high schools and taught fly casting for two years at Central Wyoming College. He enjoyed watching Dubois student athletics, fly-fishing, trapshooting, hunting and horseback riding. He was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Jackie Hill of Watford City, N.D.; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Gladys Elizabeth Kistler, 81, of Gillette died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004, in Campbell County Memorial Hospital of natural causes. Mrs. Kistler was born Nov. 5, 1922, in Watertown, S.D., to Russel and Leah (Fischer) Bell. She grew up and attended school in the Mitchell, S.D., area. She married Dale H. Kistler on Jan. 11, 1940, in Mitchell. They lived there for several years, as well as in Idaho. They moved to Gillette in 1959. They trained quarter horses for racing in the summer. Mrs. Kistler enjoyed gardening, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, embroidery, spending time with her family, shopping, canning and making bread. She was preceded in death by her husband on June 20, 2001; a son, Richard; two brothers, James and Eddie Bell; and a sister, Jeanette Gustafson. Survivors include three sons, David of Oklahoma City, Dan of Billings and Rich of Gillette; a daughter, Diana Parker of Gillette; a brother, Dick Bell of Gillette; two other sisters, Violet Ferreria of San Diego and Tiney Lutz of Dickson, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Richard G. Zingham, 79, of Sheridan died Friday, Oct. 8, 2004, in Sheridan VA Medical Center. Cremation has taken place. Private family services will be later with arrangements by Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Zingham was born Dec. 2, 1924, in Missoula, Mont., to Joesef and Ida Mae (Gregg) Zingham. He worked at an early age for the C.B.C. Horse Ranch in Miles City, Mont. He enlisted in the U.S. Army at the outbreak of World War II, serving in a pathfinder unit of the 82nd Airborne Division. He participated in most of the major operations. He received mechanic's training under the GI Bill in Chicago after the war. He married Helen Pidde in 1952 in Forest Park, Ill. They moved to Sheridan, and Mr. Zingham worked for Riley Motor Co. and, later, Cook Ford. He enjoyed the annual fall elk hunt in Little Horn Canyon. He was a member of the Shrine, the Sheridan Horse Patrol and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

R. Maxine Torbert, 87, of Sheridan died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004, in Sheridan Manor. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. A reception will follow at the Holiday Inn. Mrs. Torbert was born Dec. 20, 1916, in Letcher, S.D., to Irl and Evelyn (Knutson) Rearick. She grew up and graduated from high school in Letcher and graduated with honors from Yankton College. She moved to Sheridan around 1940. She married Hollis C. Torbert in 1941 in Hardin, Mont. She taught high school for 37 years in Dayton, Ranchester, Big Horn and Sheridan. She was named Wyoming Teacher of the Year in 1974. She was a member of the Wyoming Education Association board and received the WEA's Gold Key award in 1984. She was president of the Wyoming Foreign Language Teachers' Association and served on the Professional Standards Board of the state Department of Education. Mrs. Torbert's foreign language program at Sheridan High School was recognized in a book published by the U.S. Department of Education and the American Council of Foreign Languages. She was a volunteer at the Sheridan Senior Citizens Center and a member of the Senior Citizens Council board of directors for seven years. She wrote articles for the Silver Threads column in The Sheridan Press and was a member of Wyoming's Silver-Haired Legislature in 1986 and 1988. She also was a volunteer for AARP, a representative on the Division of Aging Advisory Council, a Wyoming delegate to the White House Conference on Aging and a consumer member of the Board of Nursing. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1960 and a son, Terry. Survivors include two sons, Steve of Sheridan and Max of Casper; a brother, Raymond Rearick of Rapid City; a sister, Marcella Jacobus of Seattle; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. She sang and tap-danced at many functions during her school years. She also enjoyed sewing and gardening and made many clothes for her children and grandchildren. She was a former resident of Story and a member of the Story Woman's Club, the Story Garden Club and Council of Catholic Women. She enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, camping, playing bingo, sports especially football and spending time with her children and grandchildren. They owned and operated Bino's Grocery, which recently celebrated 50 years in business. Mr. Mancini enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, baseball, softball and watching sports. Former Ranchester resident Frank J. Seibert, 73, of Billings died Sept. 28, 2004, after an extended illness. A memorial service is 2 p.m. today in the Dahl Funeral Chapel in Billings following private family burial in Mount View Cemetery in Columbus, Mont. Mr. Seibert was born June 15, 1931, in Crvenka, Yugoslavia, to Franz and Eva Seibert and lived in Europe until the age of 20. He and his family evacuated ahead of the World War II front and lived in camps in Eisenerz and Trofaich, Austria for 6 years. His family came to Billings in 1951, sponsored by Church World Service and the First Congregational Church in Billings. He met his wife shortly after arriving in Billings. He was former owner of Ranchester Packing and later owned the Stillwater Packing Company in Columbus. He enjoyed the outdoors and fished and hunted in his younger years. He enjoyed being with his animals, especially his dog Peaches. He was preceded in death by a brother, Karl. Survivors include his wife, Blondina; four sons, Frank of Denver, Lucky and David, both of Columbus, and Nick of Kirkland, Wash.; his mother and one brother, Herb, both of Billings; a sister, Friede Arneson of Helena, Mont.; a half-brother, Werner of Oregon City, Ore.; a half-sister Gisela Maehl of Billings; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
