Sheridan-native Donald Lee Bauman, 49, of Rawlins died Thursday, Oct. 27, in Lincoln County. Funeral Mass was celebrated this morning at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Rawlins. Cremation has taken place, and Mr. Bauman's ashes will be scattered by family and friends at a later date. He was born Sept. 29, 1956, in Sheridan to Dr. William W. and Irene (Kozeluh) Bauman. The family moved to Rawlins in 1958, and he graduated from Rawlins High School in 1975. He married Jan Lella Rasmussen on June 14, 1980, in Sheridan. Mr. Bauman was a master electrician and co-owned, with his father and brother, Childress Electric in Rawlins. He was a member of the Elks and Shrine. He enjoyed spending time with his sons, fishing, hunting, boating at Seminoe Reservoir, cooking, and entertaining friends with his renditions of Jimmy Buffett ballads. He was preceded in death by a brother, William Walter Jr. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jacob and Cody; his parents; his twin sister, Deb Schmidt; and a brother, Tim. Funeral services for former Sheridan County resident Cora Bolinger, 93, of Buffalo will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Saur officiating. Burial will be in the Sheridan Elks Section of Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mrs. Bolinger died Friday, Oct. 28, 2005, in Amie Holt Care Center in Buffalo. She was mother of Clifton Bolinger of Sheridan. She was born Sept. 2, 1912, in Huntsville, Ark., to Sol and Dovie (Page) Fowler. She married Claud Bolinger on Sept. 13, 1925, and ran a small country store. The family moved to Ucross in 1936 because of the Great Depression. They built a general store in Ucross, then sold it a year later. Mr. Bolinger worked on Carl Waegel's ranch at Ucross, and Mrs. Bolinger cooked for the ranch's hired men. The couple subleased the Silva Ranch outside Buffalo from 1938-44. They bought the Waegel ranch at Ucross in 1944 and renamed it Bolinger's Ucross Ranch. They operated and expanded the ranch for 25 years until 1969, when they sold it to Raymond Plank, president of Apache Oil Co. The Bolingers moved to Buffalo, where Mrs. Bolinger enjoyed gardening and crocheting afghans for her children and grandchildren. Mr. Bolinger died Dec. 19, 1978. Mrs. Bolinger moved into Amie Holt Care Center in January 2003. Survivors include two daughters, Maxine Cook of Lexington, Neb., and Christine Lane of Scottsdale, Ariz.; another son, Truman of Buffalo; a sister, Lucille Boatright of Huntsville; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Frank W. Wakefield, 92, of Sheridan died Sunday, Oct. 30, in Kalispell, Mont., according to his family. He was father of Robert W. Wakefield of Sheridan. Services are pending.
Elizabeth A. Haynes, 61, of Story died Saturday, Oct. 29, 2005, at her residence. Arrangements are pending with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Rosary will be recited for Lloyd Guyer, 88, of Sheridan, at 7 p.m. Sunday at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Name Catholic Church with the Rev. Ron Stolcis officiating. Burial will be in Madelia, Minn. Mr. Guyer died Wednesday, October 26, 2005, at Sheridan Manor. He was born Feb. 4, 1917, in Madelia to Lester and Elizabeth (Draper) Guyer. He married Catherine Osborne in Madelia on April 12, 1938. The family moved to Lake Tahoe, Calif., in 1963. Mr. Guyer moved to Sheridan in 1983 to be near his children. He continued his love of farming, which included tending chickens and selling the eggs. One of his most prized possessions was his "#1 Grandpa" hat. He was preceded in death by three sons, Doyle, Todd and Larry, and two brothers, Dean and Lyle. Survivors include his wife of Sheridan; four daughters, Sharon Jensen, Joann Sieberg, Kathy Averill and Mary Valdez; two sons, Daryl and Mark; 25 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Name Catholic Church with the Rev. Ron Stolcis officiating. Mrs. Farman died Sunday, Oct. 23, 2005, at her residence. She had spent the last several years battling cancer. She was born in Anacortes, Wash., to Francis B. and Helen A. Wittman. She married Nolan R. Farman in Honolulu in 1961. She enjoyed knitting, baking bread, cooking, playing cards, writing short stories and poetry, staying at the family's mountain cabin, going to lunch with friends and entertaining family. She was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church and a Third Order Franciscan. While Mr. Farman was in the Navy, the family lived in Oahu, Hawaii, San Francisco and San Diego until moving to Wyoming in 1980. Mrs. Farman later helped her husband in his business for many years and worked for Decker Coal Co., Process Equipment, Mersco Medical and First Interstate Bank. She was preceded in death by a brother. Survivors include her husband; three sons, Philip of Cody, Randall of Peachtree City, Ga., and Lance of Laramie; a daughter, Saundra of Sheridan; her mother; a brother, Robert Wittman; three sisters, Jolene Pendergrass and Jeanne Wittman of Lacey, Wash., and Julie Rushin of Peachtree City; and five grandchildren. A celebration of the life of William A. Bill Andersen, 62, of Sheridan will be 4-6 p.m. today at Kane Funeral Home. Graveside services will be Tuesday in Memorial Park West Lawn in Racine, Wis., with the Rev. Christopher Manke officiating. Mr. Andersen died Friday, Oct. 21, 2005, at Sheridan Manor. He was born June 30, 1943, in Racine to Hans and Alma (Kohtanen) Andersen. He married Lois Pasch on Aug. 3, 1967, in Milwaukee. He received his Master of Science degree in chemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1970 and worked as a chemist for 34 years the last 12 at Inter Mountain Laboratories in Sheridan. He enjoyed model trains, collecting butterflies and spending time with his grandson. Survivors include his wife; a son, David of Victoria, British Columbia; and a grandson.
Vera Marie Rieber, 92, of Carson, Iowa, died Sunday, Oct. 9, 2005, in Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow, Neb. She was mother of Phyllis Wilhelm of Sheridan. Visitation was Oct. 14 at Hertz Funeral Home in Carson, and funeral services were Oct. 15 in the Carson Presbyterian Church. Burial was in Carson Cemetery. Mrs. Rieber was born April 8, 1913, in Persia, Iowa, to Frank Allen and Grace Mae (Weaver) Fichter. She grew up in Carson. She married Walter Rudolph Rieber on Jan. 15, 1935, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. They moved to the Sandhills of Nebraska and owned a cattle ranch for 10 years. Mrs. Rieber owned and operated two cafes during this time. The Riebers moved back to the Carson area and farmed and fed cattle until 1975, when Mr. Rieber retired. Mrs. Rieber was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, cake decorating, sewing, quilting, playing cards, fishing and travel. She won the Iowa Anglers Award in 1985 for catching an 8.5-pound bass. She received an honorary high school diploma in 2003 as part of the Dreams Come True program. Mr. Rieber died May 2, 1990. Mrs. Rieber moved to Heritage Hall Nursing Home in 1998. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by five infant siblings; two brothers, Ralph and Archie Fichter; three half brothers, Albert, Jay and Frank Fichter; a sister, Vivian Fichter; and a half sister, Edna Spence.' Survivors include three additional daughters, Marlene Van Diest of Dunning, Neb., Carolyn Collier of Poncha Springs, Colo., and Sandra Bolton of Akron, Iowa; a son, Merlyn of Loup City, Neb.; three sisters, Dorothy Slaughter of Carson, Lela Donahue of Elkhorn, Neb., and Bonnie Sales of Council Bluffs; 14 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established.

Rosary for Nora C. Bender, 83, of Sheridan will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at Kane Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Name Catholic Church with the Rev. Ron Stolcis as celebrant. Mrs. Bender died Thursday, Oct. 20, 2005, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. She was born Jan. 12, 1922, in Elyria, Ohio, to Christopher and Louise (Stevens) Browne. She grew up in Sheridan and attended Holy Name Catholic School. She conceived of the idea for the annual Holy Name Chili Dinner as a fund-raiser in 1935, while a pupil in the school. She married Robert A. Bender on Sept. 27, 1947, in Montesano, Wash. They lived there until 1971, when they moved to Seattle. They lived in Seattle for more than 30 years and were active with the St. Vincent dePaul Society there. They spent their summers in Sheridan until 1999, when they moved here permanently. Mrs. Bender was a parishoner of Holy Name Catholic Church and a member of prayer and Bible-study groups. She was preceded in death by a sister, Marjorie Scheeler. Survivors include her husband, of Sheridan; two sons, Robert Jr. of Los Angeles and David of New York City; a daughter, Patricia Mulcahey of Bellevue, Wash.; a sister, Betty Nelson of Wichita, Kan.; a brother, George Browne of Loveland, Colo.; and two grandchildren. Graveside services for Milton L. Beggs, 81, of Sheridan will be next Saturday, Oct. 29, in Polson, Mont. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Beggs died Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2005, in Westview Health Care Center. He was born July 4, 1924, in Pittsburgh to James and Antoinette (Fromme). He grew up in Southern California. He joined the Navy and was a veteran of World War II. He married Beatrice Schultz on Dec. 14, 1969, in Glendale, Calif. He was employed by the city of Los Angeles for 35 years, the last 10 as superintendent of the Los Angeles Convention Center. He retired to Polson. He was a ham radio operator and enjoyed racing pigeons, reading, being on his sailboat and working on his lake house in Polson. He was preceded in death by his wife, four brothers and one sister. Survivors include three daughters, Jackie Schutte of Sheridan, Christine Veeh of Glendale and Karen Chesley of Laguna Beach, Calif.; a son, Vincent of Torrance, Calif.; two sisters, Clara Callahan of Polson and Margaret LaBorde of San Dimas, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services for Michael DeLuna, 73, of Sheridan will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Kane Funeral Home with George Tellez officiating. Mr. DeLuna died Monday, Oct. 17, 2005, at Sheridan VA Medical Center. Cremation has taken place. He was born Sept. 29, 1932, in Mexico City to Catalina (Suarez) DeLuna. He joined the Army in San Juan, Texas, in 1952 and served in Korea. He was honorably discharged in 1954. He enjoyed racing cars and hunting when he was younger. After retiring from Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad, he enjoyed camping, fishing and boating. He also enjoyed travel and made frequent trips to Mexico with family and friends. He was preceded in death by a son, Adan. Survivors include two sons, Rene of Sheridan and Raoul of Douglas; a daughter, Kathlena Pinter of Douglas; siblings Beto Suarez, Louis Suarez and Marusa Lopez, all of Mexico; and six grandchildren.
William R. Hughes
Former Sheridan resident William Robinson Hughes, 85, of Fountain, Colo., died Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2005, in Colorado Springs, Colo. Memorial services were at Fountain (Colo.) Valley Baptist Church. Mr. Hughes was born June 4, 1920, in Knoxville, Ill., to William Lewis and Mayte Hughes. The Hughes family moved to Sheridan when he was a child. He married Georgia Lois Long on Sept. 14, 1945, in Hardin, Mont. She preceded him in death. He was the 1947 Sheridan County Rodeo champion bareback bronc rider. He was first sergeant of Battery B, 300th Field Artillery in Sheridan when the unit was deployed to Korea in 1950. He retired as first sergeant E8 with 27 years of service. After retiring from the Army, he worked at School District 8 in Fountain and the Fountain Sanitation District. He was a lifetime rancher. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Douglas Keith, and a sister, Kate Owens. Survivors include a son, William R. Jr. of Colorado Springs; a daughter, Carol of Fountain; a brother, Gene of Albuquerque, N.M.; a sister, Pat Bacon of Sheridan; seven granddaughters; and nine great-grandchildren.

Leo Richard Lux, 50, of Buffalo died Monday, Oct. 17, 2005, at his residence. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Grace Fellowship Church in Buffalo with the Rev. Tom Saur officiating. Helen Lansing Ardie Germann, 83, of Sheridan died Monday, Oct. 10, 2005, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Cremation has taken place. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Germann was born June 21, 1922, in Long Island, N.Y., to Schuyler and Helen (Martin) Meyer. She grew up in Huntington, Long Island, and graduated from St. Timothy's School. She joined the Navy in 1944 as a WAVE and served until 1946. She married Oliver Germann on Jan. 21, 1950, in Sutton, Va. They owned and operated the Pioneer Court in Lander for 10 years. She and her husband lived at the Soldiers and Sailors Home in Buffalo for 15 years. She enjoyed card games, swimming and watching figure skating and tennis matches. She was preceded in death by a sister, Molly O'Connor, and a brother, Schuyler Meyer Jr. Survivors include her husband of Sheridan; two daughters, Laura Wintermeyer of California and Cecilia Meyer of Buffalo; a son, Michael of Bozeman, Mont.; a sister, Janet Denison of Montpelier, Vt.; and three grandchildren.

Former Sheridan resident Melvin D. Atwood, 85, of Oxley, Ark., died Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2005, at his residence, according to his family. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Buffalo Senior Center, 671 W. Fetterman. A reception luncheon will follow. Mr. Atwood was born Feb. 7, 1920 in Ulysses, Kan., to O.O. and Martha Atwood. He moved to Wyoming as a teenager and lived and worked on a ranch in Campbell County. He served in the Army during World War II, from 1941-45. He married Nettie Kate Toney in Texas in 1945. After the war, they moved to Portland, Ore., for two and a half years before moving to Oxley. They moved to Kaycee in 1951 and established a hardware store. Mr. Atwood also worked as a freelance welder. They moved to Sheridan in 1969. In 1996, they moved back to Oxley. Survivors include Mr. Atwood's wife; two sons, Don of Placerville, Calif., and Earl of Cheyenne; two brothers, Eldon of Joliet, Mont., and Omer of Fowler, Colo.; two sisters, Violet Hoover and Wilda Owens of Hutchinson, Kan.; and three grandchildren. William M. Bill Frazer, 83, of Sheridan died Monday, Oct. 17, 2005, in Sheridan VA Medical Center. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. David Duprey officiating. Burial with military honors will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Little Big Horn National Cemetery at Crow Agency, Mont. Inez I. Senff, 94, of Sheridan died Thursday, Oct. 13, 2005, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Revs. Ken Doolin and Steven Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mrs. Senff was born Sept. 7, 1911, on Dry Creek west of Sheridan to Charles Milo and Icy Eva (Sears) Roberts. She grew up and attended a school that her father started on the family's property on Dry Creek. She married Francis H. Senff on Aug. 30, 1941, in the parsonage of First Baptist Church in Sheridan. The couple moved to their home near Big Horn on Dec. 22, 1941. Mrs. Senff was a cook, nanny and housekeeper for many years for families in the Sheridan and Big Horn areas, including the Fairs, Moncrieffes and Coles. She also was a cook and custodian at Big Horn School for many years until the early 1960s, when she retired. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Sheridan and taught Sunday school and the "Wee Angels" class for many years. She enjoyed taxidermy, sewing, cooking, canning, gardening, growing flowers and listening to her chickens "sing," according to her family. She also enjoyed being with her family and attended Grace Baptist Church during the last few years. She was preceded in death by her husband, a sister and three brothers. Survivors include a son, Arthur of Sheridan; five daughters, Loretta Owen and Patricia Cherni, both of Sheridan, Carol Peck of Las Vegas, Wanda Lieneman of Gillette and Phyllis Lenz of Billings; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Karen Kay Antons, 62, of Sheridan will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethesda Worship Center with the Rev. Scott Lee officiating. Visitation is until 4 p.m. today at Kane Funeral Home. Burial will be 2 p.m. Monday in Riverside Cemetery in Cody. Mrs. Antons died Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2005, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. She was born Aug. 20, 1943, in Loveland, Colo., to Carl and Henrietta "Edith" (Bernhardt) Lebsack. She was a graduate of Loveland High School. She married Ronald Antons on April 11, 1964, in Loveland. The Antons built a home in Cody and a cabin in the Big Horn Mountains. Mrs. Antons enjoyed oil painting, gardening and fishing. She was a Cody Cupboard volunteer, a Christian and a member of the 700 Club. She was preceded in death by a son, Gregory, and two brothers. Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Ronalee Salveson of Sheridan, Julie Larson of Cheyenne and Debbie Crawford of Gillette; six sisters; two brothers; and five grandchildren. A memorial service for Gordon Wayne Freese, 57, of Clearmont will be 2 p.m. Sunday in the Arvada-Clearmont High School gymnasium with the Rev. Marty Rostad officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Freese died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2005, at his residence. He was born March 26, 1948, in Sheridan to William Merrill and Myrtle (Gillaspey) Freese. He grew up and attended grade school in Story. He was a 1966 graduate of Sheridan High School. He worked for Miles Texaco in Gillette, then worked for Boyd's Supermarket in Gillette as a box boy. He moved to Buffalo and worked for Buckingham Lumber Co. He married Lottie Ross on April 10, 1969, in the Methodist Church in Buffalo. He went to work April 1, 1970, as track laborer for Burlington Northern Railroad. The family lived in the Arvada area before moving to Clearmont in 1975. Mr. Freese retired from the railroad in 2003. An avid hunter and outdoorsman, he enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time with his friends and family. He was a former member of the Clearmont Jaycees, a hunter-safety instructor and a member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and a brother. Mr. Bell died Sunday, Oct. 9, 2005, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. He was born Oct. 4, 1941, in Sheridan to Elmer Henry and Inez Rachel (Beckelshymer) Bell. He attended Sheridan schools and was a member of Big Horn Mountain Eagles. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, metal-detecting and spending time with family and friends. He went on poker runs on his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and played pool Friday nights with his daughters. He married Donna Mae (Olson) Turk on Feb. 21, 1961. They divorced. He moved to Washington state in 1966, then to Alaska and worked on transport freighters. He returned to Sheridan after retiring. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bruce. Survivors include three daughters, Kris Melneck of Sheridan, Lori Bertrand of Billings and Lorna Tucker of Sheridan; a brother, Jim Bell of Colorado; three sisters, Carol Mathis of Colorado, Jewel Greer of Kentucky and Violet Hoven of Sheridan; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Pamela Ann Pionkoski, 53, of Buffalo died Saturday, Oct. 8, 2005, in Johnson County Health Care Center of cancer. She was sister of Randy Warnick of Sheridan. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel, Buffalo, with Mrs. Pionkoski's friend Luana Mikus officiating. A private family burial will follow the services. Mrs. Pionkoski was born March 3, 1952, in Milbank, S.D., to Wilbur and Dee Warnick. The family moved to Rapid City when she was a child, and she attended school there until her junior year, when the family moved to Fort Collins, Colo. She was a 1971 graduate of Fort Collins High School. She attended Colorado State University for one year. She married Thomas Spiller. They made their home in Las Vegas, N.M., and Mrs. Pionkoski started a career in banking. She and Mr. Spiller were divorced in 1976. She moved to Albuquerque, N.M., in 1982 and took a job with Sunwest Bank. She married Tom Pionkoski on May 19, 1990, in Las Vegas, Nev. They lived in Albuquerque until 1999, when they retired. They moved to Arvada in 1999, then to Buffalo in 2000. Mrs. Pionkoski was a member of Civitan, a community-service group; Arvada Women's Club; Johnson County Health Care Center Auxiliary; and Buffalo Quilting Gals, where she was past president. Survivors include her husband; a son, Jason Spiller of Denver; a stepson, Daniel Pionkoski of Las Vegas, Nev.; a stepdaughter, Julie Marie Koontz of Las Lunas, N.M.; her parents of Buffalo; a second brother, Dave Warnick of Longmont, Colo.; a sister, Jan Warnick of Monte Vista, Colo.; and two grandchildren. Sheridan-native Clara Lee (Owen) Patterson, 75, Kirby, Mont., died Monday, Oct. 10, 2005, in Big Horn County Hospital, Hardin, Mont. Services are 1 p.m. Friday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home, the Rev. Douglas Goodwin officiating. Born March 14, 1930, in Sheridan, she grew up on ranches near Kirby, Mont., and attended country schools. She married Joe H. Patterson, and they ranched in the Douglas area and also on Wolfe Creek near Ranchester. Mrs. Patterson moved to Fort Smith, Mont., where she ran a grocery store, and then to the Hosford Ranch. She also cooked at the Diamond Cross Ranch before retiring to Kirby, Mont. Known as a skilled horsewoman, she enjoyed the outdoors, beadwork, working with longhorn cattle, arrowhead hunting, and spending time with her family and pets. A daughter and a brother preceded her in death. Survivors include her mother, Clara P. Roberta Bobbie Louise Gaskell, 91, died Saturday, Oct. 8, 2005, at Laramie Care Center after a long illness. She was mother of Bob Dee of Sheridan. They moved in 1954 to Laramie, where Mrs. Gaskell worked many years as a waitress, retiring in 1976. She was known for her feisty, independent spirit. Born Nov. 25, 1915, in Toledo to John and Mary C. (Comte) Naumann, she graduated from St. Ursula. On Oct. 19, 1940, she married Lawrence Hans Wetli, who died May 4, 2004. She was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a member of St. Patrick's of Heatherdowns. Mrs. Wetli was known as a fantastic cook, a person who shared her needlework skills making clothing for many, and an avid bridge player. Survivors include two other children, Sister Mary (Cathy) Lawrence, Sisters of Notre Dame, and Dick Wetli; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold, Larry, Jack Naumann, and three sisters, Jane Naumann, Mary Rita Blanchong, and Beatrice Healy. They made their home in Clifton, N.J., until spring 1989, when they moved to Sheridan. Mrs. MacDonald enjoyed knitting, sewing, crocheting and plastic crafts and being with family and friends. She was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Peter Michael; and two brothers, Frederick and Raymond Carl. Survivors include four daughters, Edwina Hoffer and Evelyn Legerski, both of Sheridan, Ethel Bendick of Cream Ridge, N.J., and Estelle Jacobus of Knoxville, Tenn.; a son, Edward Jr. of Clifton; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Alva Hoblit, 69, of Sheridan died Friday, Oct. 7, 2005, in Sheridan VA Medical Center after a sudden illness. Mr. Hoblit was born Sept. 12, 1936, in Buffalo. He was a rodeo performer and carpenter. He was a patient at Sheridan VAMC for 26 years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1960-63. He married LeaNac Bills. They divorced. He was preceded in death by three children, Patrick, Tracy and Stacy. Mrs. Bates died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2005, in Pioneer Manor in Gillette of natural causes. She was born Nov. 12, 1906, in Rancho, Texas, to Scott and Mildred (Littleton) New. The family lived in Texas and Oklahoma before moving to Gillette in March 1917 to homestead on Wild Horse Creek. Mrs. Bates attended school in Gillette. She married George W. Bates on Oct. 10, 1926, in Gillette. They lived the next several years in Gillette and Sheridan. She worked as a cook in several cafes, including the Cozy Lunch and Husky Truck Stop. The family moved from Sheridan but returned in 1974 and raised dairy cows, calves, chickens and a large garden each year. Mrs. Bates canned, churned butter, crocheted, embroidered and quilted. She lived in Sheridan for a year after Mr. Bates died, then moved back to Squaw Valley Apartments in Gillette in June 1990. She moved to Pioneer Manor in February 1999. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, three sisters, a granddaughter, a grandson and one great-grandson. Survivors include four sons, Don of Gillette, James of Hamilton, Wash., Richard of Casper and Scott of Lead, S.D.; two sisters, Blanche Willard and Laverne Cook, both of Gillette; a brother, Edward New of Sun City, Calif.; 22 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren. She was born Aug. 9, 1926, in Sheridan to Leslie and Lennie (Teague) Braun. She grew up in Sheridan and graduated from Sheridan High School. She worked as a dental assistant. She married Junior Lewis Bennick on April 14, 1946, in Sheridan. They made their home in Gillette. She was a full-time homemaker and mother until her children were in school, then she worked part time for Hunter's Drug and, later, The Hope Chest. She enjoyed travel, spending time with her family at their cabin in the Big Horn Mountains and, in later years, reading and doing crossword puzzles. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Helen Scott; and a brother, Alan Braun. Edward L. Watts, 79, of Buffalo died Monday, Oct. 3, 2005, in Sheridan VA Medical Center. He was father of Rebecca Spellman of Arvada. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Adams Funeral Home in Buffalo with the Revs. Doug Stahl and Dennis Steele officiating. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. Friday and 8-9:30 a.m. Saturday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Watts was born Feb. 8, 1926, in South Charleston, W.Va., to Raymond and Effie Maude Watts. He grew up in South Charleston and graduated from South Charleston High School. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1944 and served with an amphibious unit in the South Pacific doing underwater demolition during World War II. He also served in the Korean War. He was discharged in 1951. He married Elizabeth Clark on Aug. 5, 1945. They made their home in South Charleston. After service in the Navy, Mr. Watts worked in FMC Corp.'s chemical division in South Charleston. The family moved to Buffalo in 1967. Mr. Watts later started Watts Construction there. Mrs. Watts died in October 1992. Mr. Watts married Lillian Dresbach on July 14, 1994, in Billings. They resided in Buffalo. Mr. Watts was a hunting guide every year until 2002. He was a member and past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars and held state and national posts. He also belonged to the American Legion, National Rifle Association, North American Fishing Club and Wildlife Forever. A lifelong member of the Church of Christ, he enjoyed playing the guitar, fiddle and mandolin. He won many state awards for his mandolin-playing. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time on his daughter and son-in-law's ranch, where he helped with ranch work. In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by a brother and two infant sisters. In addition to his daughter, survivors include his wife; two sons, William of Denver and Edward of Gillette; a stepson, Max Bese of Drummond, Okla.; two stepdaughters, Rita Scheihing and Niki Powell, both of Guthrie, Okla.; a brother, Harold of St. Albans, W.Va.; three sisters, Doris Buckalew of Nitro, W.Va., Nadine Russell of Parkersburg, W.Va., and Betty Arlene Wilson of South Charleston; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Former Sheridan resident William LeRoy Troxler, 86, of Salt Lake City died Friday, Sept. 30, 2005, in Salt Lake City. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Little Cottonwood 16th Ward Chapel at 6350 S. Rodeo Lane in Salt Lake City. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Highland Drive, and 9:45-10:45 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. Mr. Troxler was born Feb. 16, 1919, to Frank Troxler Jr. and Victoria Augusta Bergstrom Troxler in Salt Lake City. He graduated from South High School and attended the University of Utah. He married Norma Deane Brandley on Jan. 2, 1942, in Pocatello, Idaho. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple in 1955. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in India during World War II. He was a meteorologist and worked for the U.S. Weather Bureau in Missoula, Mont., and in Sheridan for 23 years before retiring in Salt Lake City. While in Sheridan, he gave daily radio broadcasts, was Lions Club president, a member of the YMCA board, and branch president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was preceded in death by his wife. Survivors include four children, Susan Holt of Salt Lake City, Joel William of Bozeman, Mont., Julie Muelleck of Fresno, Calif., and Kathleen Turner of Paradise, Calif.; 20 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. William Lloyd Malli, 69, of Arvada died Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005, in a four-wheeler accident in Arvada. Burial will be in Arvada Cemetery with graveside services. Mr. Malli was born Jan. 12, 1936, in Sheridan to John and Ada Malli. He attended a one-room school in Croton until seventh grade, when he attended junior high school in Arvada. He was a 1954 graduate of Arvada High School and worked on ranches in the Arvada area and for the railroad. He married Carol Ann Robinson on Feb. 25, 1955, in Rapid City. They made their home on the Ed Fitch Ranch east of Arvada, later moving to the Denton Floyd Ranch for several years. They bought a ranch three miles north of Arvada in 1967. Mr. Malli owned and operated Wm Lloyd Malli Trucking, which he started in 1975 as a cow-hauling operation. He later expanded the business to include construction. He enjoyed his work and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was an avid basketball fan and enjoyed rodeos. He competed in team and jackpot ropings in local rodeos, followed professional bull riding, and was a Denver Broncos fan. He was preceded in death by a brother and an infant son. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Don, Roger and Mark, all of Arvada; a daughter, Joni of Denver; and five grandchildren. Burial will be in the Sheridan Masonic 8 Cemetery. Visitation will be 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday at Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Ludecke died Friday, Sept. 30, 2005, at Sheridan Manor. She was born March 6, 1908, in Neufra-Rottweil, Germany, to Jacob and Johanna Dreher. She came to the United States when she was 17, arriving at Ellis Island on June 12, 1925. She came to Sheridan to join an uncle who lived here, and she worked for the Moncrieffe family on its polo ranch. he married Paul R. Ludecke on Aug. 20, 1928, at the Sheridan Presbyterian Church. They lived in Sheridan. The Ludeckes managed the Arrowhead Lodge and owned and operated the Dutch Lunch and Bar on Main Street in downtown Sheridan from 1947-65. Mrs. Ludecke also worked at the Western Coffee Shop at Bear Lodge and the Golden Steer and cooked the Stag Dinners for the Shriners for 11 years before retiring. Mr. Ludecke died in 1980. She was the oldest member of Sheridan's First Presbyterian Church and the member with the longest tenure, since she joined the church in the 1920s. She was a member of the Daughters of the Nile, Naomi Chapter 2 Order of the Eastern Star, Social Order of the Beauceant No. 131, the Sheridan Garden Club and the Pioneers. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, two sisters, a stepsister, a son, Otto, a daughter, Elizabeth Belsly, and a grandson. Survivors include a daughter, Johanna Gostas of Sheridan; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Presbyterian Church, Knights Templar, the Senior Center Meals on Wheels program or the Eye Foundation.
Jaspher Nixon, 9 months, of Sheridan died Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2005, at home. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Kane Funeral Home, followed by private family burial at Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. He was born Dec. 14, 2004, to Jayme Nixon and Antoinette Willenbring. He was preceded in death by a grandmother, Lori Nixon. Survivors include his parents and a sister, Sameriaha, all of Sheridan; grandparents Dave and Jackie Kramer of Kenosha, Wis.; and great-grandparents Ed and Barbara Johnson of Missoula, Mont.
