Doris Carol `DC' Neu

Memorial services for Doris Carol “DC” Neu, 81, of Dayton will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Gifford officiating. Inurnment will be later in Powell. Mrs. Neu died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2006, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. She was born Aug. 9, 1925, in Kane to Alvin and Sue Adams. She grew up in Kane and graduated from high school in Lovell and from Billings Business College. She married Harold S. Neu on Nov. 16, 1946, in Powell. She worked for CB&Q Railroad and later for the Dixon Law Firm until 1969, when the family moved to Dayton. Mrs. Neu worked for the U.S. Forest Service until she retired. She enjoyed poetry, flowers, gardening, playing the piano, music of all kinds and family gatherings. Survivors include her husband; four daughters, Vickie Martin of Sheridan, Mona Scott of Dayton, Michele Lofgren of Buffalo and Tami Neu of Billings; and eight grandchildren. Donations will be distributed to local veterinarians to help older citizens of Sheridan and surrounding areas care for their pets.

 

Kathleen `Kathy' Voogd

Kathleen “Kathy” Voogd, 62, of Sheridan died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2006, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Kane Funeral Home. Betty Jean Fink

Funeral liturgy for Betty Jean Fink, 70, of Sheridan will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Name Catholic Church with the Rev. Peter James as celebrant. Burial will be in Black Hills Cemetery in Sturgis, S.D., under direction of Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Fink died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. She was born Dec. 18, 1935, in Houston to Chester H. and Lois (Dobbs) Hanks. She married William Fink on June 28, 1944, in the VA Chapel in Miles City, Mont. The couple lived in Miles City until 1998, when the hospital closed. They moved to Sheridan. Mrs. Fink was preceded in death by her husband. Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Hilton of Houston. Geraldine B. Given

Former Sheridan resident Geraldine B. Given, 86, died Monday, Oct. 30, 2006, in Centennial Health Care Center in Greeley, Colo. Arrangements are pending with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Virginia V. McClintock

Memorial services for Virginia V. McClintock, 91, of Sheridan will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Don Derryberry officiating. Inurnment will follow at 1 p.m. in the Elks Section of Sheridan Municipal Cemetery under direction of Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. McClintock died Friday, Oct. 27, 2006, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. She was born June 25, 1915, in College View, Neb., to Chauncey A. and Minta A. (Gibson) Bird. The family moved to Sheridan in 1917. Mrs. McClintock was a lifetime resident of Sheridan and a graduate of Sheridan High School. She married David S. McClintock on Dec. 14, 1935, in Sheridan. She was a homemaker, a 4-H leader, past worthy matron of Friendship Chapter 51, Order of the Eastern Star, a life member of First United Methodist Church, a member of the Sheridanaires, a charter member of Valley Homemakers Club and a member of Sheridan Woman's Club. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, playing cards, especially bridge, spending time with her family, and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers, one sister and one granddaughter. Survivors include two sons, David B. of Sheridan and William L. of Thornton, Colo.; two daughters, Joyce Waddell of Casper and Kathleen Conley of Concord, Calif.; a brother, Hugh Bird of Sheridan; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 215 W. Works St.; Meals on Wheels, 211 Smith St.; or to a recipient of the donor's choice.

Frank Krezelok

Memorial services for Frank Krezelok, 87, of Banner will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Marty Rostad officiating. Mr. Krezelok died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2006, in Sheridan Manor. Cremation has taken place. Mr. Krezelok was born Oct. 21, 1919, in Sheridan to Mike and Hedwik (Rucki) Krezelok. He married Enid Brundage on Feb. 14, 1942, in Sheridan. He ranched on Piney Creek all his life. He enjoyed playing cards, jokes, sports, especially baseball, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Jerry; three sisters; and a brother. Survivors include his wife; a son, John of Banner; a daughter, Virginia Watt of Buffalo; two sisters, Mary Meich of Sheridan and Margaret Ellenwood of Banner; a brother, Joe of Greybull; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Mervin D. Johnson

Mervin D. Johnson 67, of Watford City, N.D., died Monday, Oct. 23, 2006, in McKenzie County Hospital after a battle with cancer. He was father of Brenda Stoner of Sheridan. Funeral services were this morning at First Lutheran Church in Watford City with the Rev. Chris Montgomery officiating. Burial was in Schafer Cemetery. Arrangements were with Fulkerson Funeral Home. Mr. Johnson was born July 8, 1939, in Watford City to Elvin and Marietta (McLucas) Johnson. He grew up on the family ranch in McKenzie County and attended the Foreman country school. He was a 1959 graduate of Watford City High School. After graduation, he worked for his uncle and later in the oil field as a derrick hand on a work-over rig. He married Arlene Blegen on Aug. 5, 1961, in the Lutheran Church in Tioga, N.D. Mr. Johnson ranched until 2004, when he retired. He enjoyed hunting, camping, boating, fishing, gardening, visiting his children and grandchildren, and family reunions. He restored old tractors and did other mechanical work. He belonged to First Lutheran Church of Watford City and was a member of North Dakota Stockmen's Association for 33 years. He was preceded in death by a son, Terrence. Survivors include his wife; two other daughters, Corene Nelson of Frederick, Colo., and Arlys Frazier of Burlington, N.D.; a son, Zane of Mesa, Ariz.; a brother, Eldin of Fairview, Mont.; two sisters, Gail Schatz of Elgin, N.D., and Sharian Turnquist of Watford City; and 12 grandchildren.

Marianne Legerski

Funeral services for Marianne Legerski, 79, of Sheridan will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Doolin officiating. Mrs. Legerski died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2006, in Sheridan Manor. She was born July 9, 1927, in Upton to Wray and Leora (Hallowell) Case. The family moved to Sheridan when she was 6 years old. She was a graduate of Sheridan High School. She married Frank Legerski on July 6, 1952, in Sheridan. She was in charge of cleaning at First Interstate Bank for almost 20 years. She won a trip to Hawaii from Brown Swiss Dairy in 1982. She enjoyed being a homemaker and spending time with family and friends. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Worth, and a grandson. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Marilyn Oryall of Sheridan; two sons, Steve Legerski of Sheridan and Carl Worth of Haxton, Colo.; a sister, Nadine Zowada of Buffalo; two brothers, Dawson Case of Ranchester and Thomas Case of Sheridan; and four grandchildren. Irl Franklin Maxwell

Sheridan native Irl Franklin Maxwell, 74, of Casper died Monday, Oct. 23, 2006, in Wyoming Medical Center. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday in Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery in Evansville with Chaplain Ellis Kaster from Wyoming Medical Center officiating. Burial will be with military honors by the Natrona County United Veterans Council and the Wyoming National Guard. Arrangements are with Newcomer Family Funeral Home. Mr. Maxwell was born Feb. 7,1932, in Sheridan to James Alfred and Blanche (Stallings) Maxwell. He grew up and attended schools in Sheridan. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served with the 300th Armored Field Artillery from Wyoming in Korea. He was discharged as a corporal. He married Gloria Bettini on June 8, 1952, in Sterling, Colo. He worked for Petroleum Inc. for 30 years. He was a life member of the Moose and Elks in Scottsbluff, Neb., a member of the American Legion in Kimball, Neb., a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9439 in Casper, and a life member of the amateur trap shooter association and Rocky Mountain Gun Club. He was 600 short of 100,000 targets. Mr. Maxwell was a member of the Natrona County United Veterans' Council and the military order of Saint Barbara. He enjoyed fly-fishing and hunting. He was preceded in death by a son, James Irl; a brother, Dale; and one grandson. Survivors include his wife and son, Tom, both of Casper; two brothers, Linn of Sheridan and Leroy of Corona, Calif.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

 

James Rodney Roberts

Viewing for James Rodney Roberts, 83, of Sheridan will begin at 7 p.m. Friday in the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the church with Rick Beld and Joel Hendricksen officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Roberts died Monday, Oct. 23, 2006, at his residence. He was born Oct. 10, 1923, in Crook County to James E. and Ida (Richie) Roberts. He attended school in Hulett until 14, when he went to work in the lumber business for a brother and brother-in-law. He married Ruth Stewart on Nov. 27, 1940, in Chamberlain, S.D. They lived near Hulett for two years, then moved near Chamberlain, where Mr. Roberts farmed and ranched for his father-in-law. He went to work for the Army Corps of Engineers at Big Bend Dam in 1966. He worked for the Corps of Engineers for 31 years, until 1997, when he retired. A member of Old Apostolic Lutheran Church, he enjoyed being with family and friends. He was preceded in death by six brothers, six sisters, an infant son and three grandsons. Survivors include his wife; four sons, Archie of Sturgis, S.D., Clayton of Chamberlain, Leon of Spearfish, S.D., and Val of Brush Prairie, Wash.; four sisters, Irene Winkler and Sally Stewart, both of Sheridan, Sandy Fordyce of Kalama, Wash., and IlenaHallstrom of North East, Md.; 48 grandchildren; more than 100 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Old Apostolic Lutheran Church.

Valerie E. Gleissner, 61, of Sheridan died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2006, at her residence. Visitation will be 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Friday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Gerald Roy Hoffer

Gerald Roy Hoffer, 94, of Sheridan died Monday, Oct. 23, 2006, in Westview Health Care Center. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Assembly of God Church in Glendive, Mont., with the Rev. Don Fercho officiating. Burial will be in Dawson Memorial Cemetery in Glendive under direction of Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Glendive. Local arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Hoffer was born Sept. 5, 1912, in Nappanee, Ind., to Arthur and Maude (Freed) Hoffer. He married Laura I. Nissley on June 13, 1937, in Nappanee. They moved to Glendive in 1958, and he worked at the GTA Elevator, farmed and was a minister. The Hoffers moved to Sheridan in 2000. Mrs. Hoffer died in January 2003. Survivors include five sons, Paul J. of Cottonwood, Ariz., David R. of Anderson, Ind., Daniel L. of Billings, Laurel “Leo” of Sheridan and Quinton J. of Sulphur Springs, Ark.; a sister, Maxine Schwartz, and brother, Buell, both of Nappanee; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Glen Leland Peterson

Funeral services for Glen Leland Peterson, 64, of Story will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Tromble officiating. Burial will be in Story Cemetery. Mr. Peterson died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2006, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. He was born Aug. 4, 1942, in Greeley, Colo., to Carl R. and Evelyn (Reinhold) Peterson. He graduated from Eaton (Colo.) High School and served with the Colorado National Guard from 1964-70. He spent his life in farming. He married Darla Collins on Jan. 25, 1992, in Greeley. They enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with family and friends. Mr. Peterson was a lifelong Oklahoma Sooner fan. Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Glenda Donoho of Platteville, Colo., Tammi Dickey and Andrea Peterson, both of Cheyenne Wells, Colo., and Adrienne Chapman of Hillrose, Colo.; two stepsons, Jim Palmer of Elizabeth, Colo., and Steve Palmer of Eaton; his mother of Greeley; a brother, Less of Greeley; and 14 grandchildren. Vila Mae Cuer, 75, of Leavenworth, Kan., died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006, in Billings Clinic. She was mother of Kim Pelesky of Sheridan and Linda Rehder of Ranchester. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Kingsdown (Kan.) Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jack Divine officiating. Burial will be in Bucklin (Kan.) Cemetery under direction of Minnis Mortuary of Bucklin. Mrs. Cuer was born Oct. 31, 1930, in Dodge City, Kan., to Claude and Emma Katherine (Hirt) Ellis. She married James Howard Cuer on Sept. 7, 1952, in Kingsdown. She was a homemaker and a longtime resident of Leavenworth. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Billy Dean, Ronald Dale and Harold Duane Ellis; and one grandson. Survivors also include her husband; a son, Jeff of Bucklin; a brother, Gilbert Ellis of Kingsdown; a sister, Norma June Scheufler of West Lafayette, Ind.; and six grandchildren. Eileen D. Farman

Funeral Mass for Eileen D. Farman, 89, of Sheridan will be 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Name Catholic Church with the Rev. Ron Stolcis officiating. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Farman died Friday, Oct. 20, 2006, in Westview Health Care Center. She was born Feb. 18, 1917, in Logan, Iowa, to Nova and Loy Roush. When she was 3 months old, the family homesteaded 50 miles south of Gillette in the Pumpkin Butte area. The family moved to Sheridan when she was about 6 years old, then returned to the homestead after she finished grade school. She attended her first year of high school in Casper, then transferred to Gillette for her final three years. She graduated from Campbell County High School. She married Eldon Farman on the night she received her diploma.4 She enrolled in hairdresser school in 1962, and she and Mr. Farman owned and operated the Powder Box Salon until 1976. They later worked a small farm on Beaver Creek Road until they retired and moved into town. Mrs. Farman enjoyed the mountains, fishing, rides with her brother, singing with the Sheridanaires, playing rummy cubes, and serving meals and spending time with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband on Feb. 3, 1999; a son, Dade; two brothers, Donald Gene and Hadley Roush; and a sister, Juanita Vinke. Survivors include two sons, Nolan and Dane, and a brother, James “Bud” Roush, all of Sheridan; 10 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. David D. Buss

David D. Buss, 65, of Sheridan died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Cremation has taken place, and no services are planned. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Buss was born Dec. 7, 1940, in Sheridan to David I. and Florence (Benedict) Buss. He attended Sheridan High School, where he captained the 1959 state champion basketball team. He graduated in 1959. He attended Sheridan College and Black Hills College, where he earned his teaching degree. His jobs included educator, businessman and salesman. He was employed at Valley Motor Honda at the time of his death. He married Sharon Klinkosh on Aug. 19, 1962. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing cards, camping and discussing politics. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Daren of Riverton and Keven of Cody; a daughter, Jolene Driver of San Angelo, Texas; and six grandchildren. BUFFALO — Kenneth Gove, 87, of Buffalo died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2006, in Johnson County Health Care Center. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tom Saur officiating. Visitation is 1-9 p.m. today and 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Chamois, Mo., with services there to be announced. Alda Lucille (Johnson) Hills

Funeral services for Alda Lucille (Johnson) Hills, 90, of Sheridan will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Waubay, S.D. Burial will be in Lakewood Cemetery in Waubay. Local arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Hills died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2006, in Sheridan Manor. She was born May 22, 1916, in East Granite Falls, Minn., to John Martin and Alice Marie (Swenson) Johnson. She grew up and attended school in Granite Falls, where she graduated from high school in 1934. She worked as a clerk in grocery stores and the Ben Franklin Store and also for the Granite Falls City Recreation Department. A member of United Lutheran Church, she taught Sunday school there for eight years. She married Cresent Daniel Hills on Oct. 24, 1942, and they made their home in Waubay, where they owned and operated a Gambles hardware store until retiring in 1971. The couple were members of Our Savior Lutheran Church, and Mrs. Hills was a Sunday school superintendent for 15 years, taught Sunday school, served as dean of girls at Pickeral Lake Bible Camp for 16 years, was acting adviser/leader of the Luther League, and held several offices within Lutheran Church organizations. She served a term as district president of the Women's Mission Federation of the Lutheran Free Church and held offices in the Women's Christian Temperance Union. She was a member of Our Savior's Church Council until 1991. She planned and hosted six reunions of the Hills and Johnson families in the late 1990s through 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers and a sister. Survivors include a daughter, Ruth Ann Tollin; a son, Daniel; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Walter Donald Key

Clearmont native Walter Donald Key, 76, of Gillette died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006, in Sheridan VA Medical Center. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. today in Willow Grove Cemetery in Buffalo with the Rev. Tom Saur officiating. Arrangements are with Adams Funeral Home of Buffalo. Mr. Key was born Oct. 11, 1930, in Clearmont to Clyde and Cora Key. He grew up and was educated in Clearmont. He worked as a ranch hand until 1952, when he joined the military. He served until 1954 and was a Korean War veteran. He married Bernice Austin in March 1955. They resided in Clearmont and Kaycee, where Mr. Key worked as a ranch hand and in the oil fields. He moved to Gillette in 1970. He enjoyed ranching, hunting, playing cards, and being with friends. When he was younger, he participated in rodeo. He was preceded in death by a son, Kevin, and two brothers, Jimmie and George S. “Shorty.” Survivors include a son, Melvin, of Enid, Okla.; two daughters, Debbie Campbell of Seiling, Okla., and Delva Nebhut of Vici, Okla.; five sisters, Stella Brook of Kaycee, Mary Jo Foreman of Bozeman, Mont., Dorothy Key of California and Diane Done and Katherine Walker, both of Casper; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Betty Jo Poll, 79, of Sheridan died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2006, in St. Vincent's Healthcare Center in Billings. Arrangements are pending with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Former Sheridan resident Robert W. “Bob” Ferguson, 65, of Hanna died Monday, Oct. 9, 2006, in Rawlins. Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service was Friday in the Catholic Church in Hanna.

 

Judy Ann Malloy Wilcox

Former Sheridan resident Judy Ann Malloy Wilcox, 61, of Carson, N.D., died Monday, Oct. 16, 2006, at St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck, N.D., following a yearlong battle with cancer. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Carson with the Rev. Dale Carmen officiating. Arrangements are with Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Elgin, N.D. A visitation will be noon-8 p.m. Sunday at the BlasČ-Wetzel-Strauser Funeral Home in Curtis, Neb. Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday in the Arbor Cemetery in Stockville, Neb., with the Rev. Kevin Burkhardt officiating. Mrs. Wilcox was born April 30, 1945, in Wichita, Kan., to Richard and Audrey (Cole) Malloy. The family moved to Stockville, Neb., returning to Wichita in 1954. In 1958, the family moved to Sidney, Neb., where Mrs. Wilcox graduated from high school. She moved to Casper, where she worked for a telephone company. She married Donald G. Wilcox on Dec. 1, 1969, in Casper. The family later lived in Riverton and Billings before moving to Sheridan in 1990, where they operated a construction business. They retired in 2001 and purchased a ranch near Carson. Mrs. Wilcox enjoyed sewing, baking, interior decorating, and setting up and displaying her Christmas village collection. In 2004, she set up her village in a vacant building in Elgin and opened it to the public. She was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. Survivors include her husband; four daughters, Torie Hutchins of Bismarck, Shanel Shanahan of Cheyenne, Tracie Pyle of Casper and Brenda Haskett of Sheridan; a brother, Michael Malloy of Sheridan; a sister, Diane Crapson-Raggio of Dallas; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Leslie B. Pafford

Leslie B. Pafford, 49, of Sheridan died Friday, Oct. 13, 2006, of a heart attack. Funeral services will be later in Texas. Local arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Pafford was born Jan. 21, 1957, in Amory, Miss., to Henry and Mazel (McDaniel) Pafford. He grew up and attended schools in Mississippi. He served in the U.S. Navy. He married Lily Roane in 1976 in Houston. They divorced. He worked as a machinist and truck driver in Houston. He married Robbie Pierce in Houston in 1985. They separated. Mr. Pafford came to Sheridan in 2005. He was companion of the late Debra Taylor. He was preceded in death by a brother, Linden. Survivors include three sons, Michael Seely, Robert Balerio and Christopher Edwards, all of Texas; three daughters, D'Anna Seely of Biloxi, Miss., Casandra Balerio of Crosby, Texas, and Christina Seely of Houston; his father of Leesville, La.; his mother of Evans, La.; a brother, William of Evans; and eight grandchildren.

Harry Eugene Smith, 69, of Sheridan died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006, at Westview Health Care Center. Burial will be in Oregon Trails State Cemetery for Veterans in Evansville. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Smith was born May 4, 1937, in Grand Junction, Colo. He served in the U.S. Air Force in 1957 and 1958 and was honorably discharged.

Mrs. Mroz was born Oct. 8, 1934, in Milwaukee to Gerald and Esther Daum. She married James Mroz in 1976 in Silver City, N.M. She was a seamstress and doll maker. Leila Beth Wilson

A celebration of life for Leila Beth Wilson, 92, of Sheridan will be 2 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Wilson died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006, at Westview Health Care Center. She was born Oct. 28, 1913, in Jackson, Minn., to the Rev. A.M. and Mabel (Wilkinson) Folk. She graduated from Welcome (Minn.) High School in 1931. She worked at the Buttrey's Food stores in Minnesota. She married Robert "Bob" Wilson on July 5, 1942, in the Methodist Church in Fairmont, Minn. They moved to Billings, then to Miles City, Mont., before coming to Sheridan in 1949. Mrs. Wilson was employed at Eileen's Dress Shop in Sheridan, then was hired as a bookkeeper at Mossholder's, a job she held for 25 years. She and Mr. Wilson designed and built their home on Big Horn Avenue in 1959. They were instrumental in organizing "Carol Avenue," an annual display of handmade Christmas decorations. Mrs. Wilson enjoyed growing roses and other flowers, including an orchid which she brought from Hawaii. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and was Presbyterian Women moderator in 1980 and 1981. She received an honorary membership in Program Agency of Presbyterian Church USA in 1987, was treasurer of the Presbyterian Circle 2 organization, and was instrumental in helping plan the kitchen when the new Presbyterian Church was built. She cared for plants in the church for many years. She was also a member of PEO Chapter AB and served as president of the Fine Arts Club. She and Mr. Wilson organized and led the Wyoming Wayfarers for 25 years. She was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Folk. Survivors include her husband and two sisters, Helen Peterson of Lamberton, Minn., and Marin Headley of Emmetsburg, Iowa. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church.

BUFFALO — Byron George Nelson, 85, of Buffalo died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Buffalo with the Rev. Janet Margaret Wherry Martin

Janet Margaret Wherry Martin, 90, of Sheridan died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2006, at her residence. Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church. Mrs. Martin was born July 13, 1916, in Sheridan. She taught piano in Birmingham, Mich., before retiring and returning to Sheridan. She also was a concert pianist, author of a progressive series of piano instruction books, composer, horsewoman, fused glass artist, home designer and gourmet cook. Bob Mahoney

Former Sheridan resident Bob Mahoney, 69, of Buffalo died Friday, Oct. 6, 2006, in the Billings Clinic following a 10-month battle with cancer. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Bob McHenry and Tom Saur officiating. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. today and 8:30-9:30 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel. Burial will be in Willow Grove Cemetery, Buffalo, with graveside services. Mr. Mahoney was born March 11, 1937, in Buffalo to Frances Mae and W. Woodson Mahoney. He attended school in Buffalo and was a 1955 graduate of Johnson County High School. He worked in the grocery business from age 14 until 1999, when he retired. He married Carole S. Vogel on June 11, 1956. They moved to Sheridan, then to Greybull and Glendive, Mont., before returning to Buffalo in 1961. They began a ministorage business in 1994. Mr. Mahoney enjoyed the mountains, wildlife, camping, fishing, dancing, travel and talking with people. He was a member of Kiwanis, Toastmasters, Johnson County Youth Camp committee, and the Buffalo Volunteer Fire Department. He was preceded in death by a brother, Duane. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Bob of Helena, Mont., and Chuck of Manhattan, Mont.; a sister, Elizabeth Mae Hobbs of Evansville; two brothers, Bryan of Eureka, Nev., and Chad of Ogden, Utah.; and five grandchildren. Elbert Maloney

Elbert Maloney, 79, of Sheridan died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2006, at his residence. Cremation has taken place, and no services are planned. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Maloney was born July 11, 1927, in Marshall, Ill., to James and Iva (Horsley) Maloney. He married Dorothy Horsley on Feb. 23, 1946, in Terre Haute, Ind. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and cooking. He was a member of the Moose Lodge. He was preceded in death by a son, John Lee. Survivors include his wife, of Sheridan; two other sons, Tim of Sheridan and Ronald of Colony, Okla.; two daughters, Cheryl Campbell of Sheridan and Deana Campbell; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Frances Mae Mahoney

Frances Mae Mahoney, 91, of Buffalo died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006, in the Amie Holt Care Center in Buffalo. She was sister of Tolbert Schrater of Sheridan. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Adams Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tom Saur, the Rev. Alan Schaberg and the Rev. Bob McHenry officiating. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Willow Grove Cemetery with graveside services. Mrs. Mahoney was born June 11, 1915, on Johnson Creek northwest of Buffalo to Frank and Lucina Schrater. She grew up on the family homestead and attended Johnson Creek School. She was a 1933 graduate of Johnson County High School. After high school, she drove a school bus for three years. She married William Woodson Mahoney on Aug16, 1936, in Buffalo. They made their home in Buffalo. Mrs. Mahoney was a homemaker for several years before taking a job at the Table Supply IGA. She later worked for the Buffalo Grocery and the Wyoming Crippled Children's Society. Mr. Mahoney died in October 1972. Mrs. Mahoney had been a resident of the Amie Holt Care Center since 2003. She was a charter member of the Grace Fellowship Church and was later a member of the Assembly of God Church then, for the past 10 years, the Buffalo Wesleyan Church. She was a member of Friends of the Library and the Johnson/Sheridan Pioneer Association. She was an avid fisherman and letter writer. She enjoyed spending time with her family, and riding horses. She was a Wyoming Cowboys fan and supported local sporting events. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Duane; a brother, Robert Schrater; and a sister, Billie Ross. Other survivors include a daughter, Betty Hobbs of Evansville; three sons, Bob of Buffalo, Bryan of Eureka, Nev., and Chad; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Buffalo Senior Center or the Wesleyan Church Building Fund in care of the Adams Funeral Home.

Mr. Thompson was born May 29, 1952, in Buffalo to Victor H. and Clarice Thompson. He attended Sheridan High School and graduated in 1970.
