Florence V. (Belus) Smith, 67, formerly of Sheridan, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Orange, Calif.
Vigil services are 7 p.m. Tuesday at Kane Funeral home. Memorial services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Stolcis officiating. Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.

Maxine Charlotte Corne

Maxine Charlotte Corne, 81, of Sheridan died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Visitation is 7-9 p.m. Sunday. Services are 10 a.m. Monday at Kane Funeral Home with Pastor Charles Gifford officiating. Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.

Raymond E. Mahon

Raymond E. Mahon, 93, of Sheridan, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001, at the VA Medical Center. Cremation has taken place, and arrangements were with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Mahon was born March 8, 1908, in Santa Paula, Calif., to Horatio and Mary Anice Mahon. He grew up in Santa Paula, Calif., and attended Santa Paula Union High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and participated in campaigns in Normandy, Rhineland and Central Europe. He married Dorothy Wilber Mahon in 1943 in Los Angeles, where he was an automobile serviceman and service-station operator. He was preceded in death by his wife, a brother, Robert, and a sister, Berniece. Survivors include a stepson, Dane Culbertson and stepdaughter, Ann Greeley, both of Sheridan; a sister, Lucille Mayea of Camarillo, Calif.; and a niece and nephews.

Maxine Charlotte Corne

Maxine Charlotte Corne, 81, of Sheridan died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Visitation is 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Monday at Kane Funeral Home with Pastor Charles Gifford officiating. Mrs. Corne was born June 17, 1920, in Macon County, N.C., to L.B. and Florence (Williams) Norton. She married Norton Corne Aug. 6, 1938, in Clayton, Ga. She loved to read, especially murder mysteries. She enjoyed needlework and puzzles. She also loved to laugh and work in her garden. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1990; her parents; and nine brothers and sisters. Survivors include two daughters, Toni Grant of Sheridan and Kathryn Schwab of Littleton, Colo.; her son, Bruce Corne of Maab, Utah; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Senior Center Daybreak Adult Care program in care of Kay Roush, First Federal Savings Bank, Box 6007, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Berniece Brown

Memorial services for Berniece Brown, 86, are 2 p.m. Saturday at Story Woman’s Club with the Rev. David Miers officiating. Mrs. Brown died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001, at the Johnson County Health Care Center. She was born Nov. 26, 1914, in Forsyth, Mont., to Arthur and Viola Shaw. She was raised on the Dana ranch at Pass Creek. She attended Pass Creek School and Sheridan High School. She taught school at Parkman after graduation. She married Colvin (Cully) B. Brown Nov. 21, 1935. They ranched at Dayton, and on the Little Big Horn River above Wyola, Mont. They retired to Story, where her husband worked as a water commissioner. She moved to Buffalo following his death. They were longtime members of Sheridan Elks Lodge. Survivors include two sons, Arthur Brown of Longmont, Colo., and Tory Brown of Aurora, Colo.; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Grace Strange

Grace M. Strange, 95, of Sheridan died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2001, in Westview Health Care Center. Viewing is 4-7 p.m. today at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with Pastor Doug Melius officiating. Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mrs. Strange was born April 26, 1906, in Homer, Neb., to Christian and Goldie (Patterson) Christopher. She grew up and graduated from high school in Emerson, Neb., then taught in country schools for two years. She married Fred Strange June 24, 1925, in Wakefield, Neb. They moved to Sheridan in 1936. She sold Avon products 25 years, was a member of First Presbyterian Church and enjoyed cooking, music, raising flowers, fishing, camping and the mountains. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1976 and by one sister. Survivors include a daughter, Ruth Bates of Sheridan, and four grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren, seven step-great-great-grandchildren and one step-great-great-great-grandchild. Memorials may benefit the First Presbyterian Church.

Donald Bohren

Donald R. Bohren, 52, of Sheridan died Monday, Sept. 24, 2001, in the Sheridan VA Medical Center. Graveside committal of cremains will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with Pastor Dan Keller officiating. Military rites will be by the American Legion and the Wyoming National Guard. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Bohren was born April 4, 1949, in Sheridan to Duane and Charlottee (Badgett) Bohren. He grew up in Sheridan and served in the U.S. Navy. He returned to Sheridan after service. He married Sherry Thompson Oct. 2, 1976, in Sheridan. He worked in the laundry at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, playing baseball and spending time with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother and a daughter, Dawnuale Rae. Survivors include his wife of Sheridan; a son, Christopher Young, and two daughters, Rita Morrison and Charlotte Bohren, all of Sheridan; his father and stepmother, Duane and Irene Bohren of Sheridan; four stepbrothers, Jim Vine of Illinois and Don, Jerry and Ed Vine, all of Sheridan; and two grandchildren. Memorials may benefit the Animal Shelter, 325 Fort Road in Sheridan.

Marie Sabo

Marie Patricia Sabo, 97, of Sheridan died Monday, Sept. 24, 2001, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home, with rosary recited at 7:30 p.m. by Father Ronald Stolcis. Funeral liturgy will be 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Name Catholic Church with Father Stolcis officiating. Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mrs. Sabo was born Marie Kovacic Aug. 6, 1904, in Cambria to Austrian immigrants. She attended the Music Conservatory in Spearfish, S.D., and later in Lincoln, Neb. She married Steve Sabo in 1925 in Monarch. He died in 1997. She was an organist for many years at Holy Name Catholic Church, was a Cub Scouts den mother and was active in many organizations including the Sheridan Woman’s Club. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother. Survivors include four sons, Steve of Pennsylvania, Jerry of Montana, Donald of Texas and Jim of Wyoming; a daughter, Patricia of New Jersey; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Memorials may benefit the World Trade Center Disaster Relief for the Firefighters and Police Officers, in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Francis Traub

Former Sheridan County resident Francis Irving Traub, 84, of Manhattan, Mont., died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001, after a long battle with cancer. A rosary is 7 p.m. today in the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Broadus, Mont. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. David’s Catholic Church in Broadus, followed by Rite of Committal in the family lot in Valley View Cemetery, Broadus. Mr. Traub was born Feb. 16, 1917, in Pinto, Mont., to George and Elizabeth (Portwine) Traub. He married Georgia Richard Oct. 10, 1945. He farmed and ranched in the Bay Horse, Mont., area until 1977, when he retired to Story. He subsequently worked eight years for the Fish Hatchery. He took a caretaker position on a ranch in Big Horn in 1984 and worked there until 1999, when he moved to Manhattan to be close to family. He was a member of the Roman Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Lions Club and Elks, and was an outfitter for several years. He was preceded in death by a daughter, seven brothers, three sisters and a grandson. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Ray and Lee, both of Broadus; seven daughters, Ellen Wright of Kent, Wash., Jane Giacometto of Boyes, Mont., Rhonda Delzer of Bismarck, N.D., Nina Schaffer of Wapanucka, Okla., Becky Etten of Reno, Nev., Pat Worman of Manhattan and Lynn Dyksterhouse of Belgrade, Mont.; 24 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Powder River Manor or Powder River Historical Society in Montana.

Charles Robert Powell, 53, of Great Falls, Mont., died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001, at the Sheridan VA Medical Center. Services and burial will be in Great Falls with O’Connor Funeral Home. Champion Ferries Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Edmond Donald Davis Jr., 41, died at his Sheridan residence. Date of death has not been determined. Cremation has taken place and Kane Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Jack Dow

Jack Dow, 77, of Sheridan died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Kane Funeral Home with Pastor Charles Gifford officiating. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Big Horn at a later date.
Mr. Dow was born April 8, 1924, to Bert and Emma (Urbanoski) Dow. After completing high school, he served two years as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army. He married Dorothy Smith Oct. 8, 1946, in Hardin, Mont. He lived his entire life on the Dow ranch, which was homesteaded by his grandfather Jack, who surveyed the towns of Big Horn and Sheridan. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, watching his son’s football games and his grandsons’ sports and taking his grandsons hunting. He was a member of Peter’s Grazing Association and Big Horn Historical Society. He was preceded in death by a brother, Alan, son Jack and a granddaughter. Survivors include his wife; a son, Bert, of Sheridan; two sisters, Elizabeth Hager of Elk, Wash., and Mary Long of Laramie; and two grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Big Horn High School football team in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Althea Jennings, 50, of Sheridan died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County after a struggle with cancer.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Moose Lodge 674. Kane Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Ms. Jennings was born Aug. 13, 1951, to Robert and Maxine (Colhoff) Eastman. She attended school in Sheridan and worked as a file clerk for the Bureau of Indian Affairs. She enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening, reading, motorcycle rides, camping, boating and her family. She was a member of Moose Lodge 674, Eagles 4169 and Veterans of Foreign Wars 1560 Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather Robert Creathbaum; and a brother, Ed Eastman. Survivors include her companion, Jack Ralston II of Sheridan; a daughter, Tia-Dawn Logan, and son, Jobe Jennings, both of Sheridan; stepmother Vivian Creathbaum of Sheridan; three sisters, Myrna Paukei of Oklahoma and Roberta “Bitsy” Colhoff and Georgette Benbo, both of South Dakota; and a brother, Darrell Eastman of Oregon. Dorothy Brug

BUFFALO — Sheridan native Dorothy Oleta Brug, 89, of Buffalo died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001, at her home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Adams Funeral Home Chapel with Father Steve Samples officiating. Burial will be in Willow Grove Cemetery. Visitation is 1-10 p.m. today and 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. Mrs. Brug was born Oct. 15, 1911, in Sheridan to Sam and Nellie Thomas. She grew up and was educated in Sheridan. She married Fred Brug Jan. 2, 1928, in Hardin, Mont., and they farmed and ranched in the Clear Creek Valley, including 17 years on the Healy ranch. They later ranched at Leiter. They moved to Buffalo after retiring. Mr. Brug died in 1993. Mrs. Brug married Claire Boyce in 1996 and moved to his ranch in Lewiston, Mont. She returned to Buffalo after his death. In addition to her two husbands, she was preceded in death by three children, Frederick Brug, Jean Jardon and Marjorie Adami; six brothers, Lloyd, Jess, Ralph, Roy, Bob and Bernard Thomas; and a grandson, Rick Brown. Survivors include a daughter, Dollie Iberlin of Buffalo; two sisters, Bernice Musgrave of Sheridan and Ruth Peterson of Newtown, Pa.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Judith Tappe

Former Sheridan resident Judith Mary Tappe, 45, of Helena, Mont., died Friday, Sept. 14, 2001, at Montana State Hospital. Viewing was noon to 5:30 p.m. today at Retz Funeral Home in Helena. A vigil service will be 7 p.m. today at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Helena. Funeral Mass will be 12:10 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Interment will be in the Mountain View Cemetery in Billings. Ms. Tappe was born Sept. 30, 1955, to Herman and Leona (Burns) Tappe in Miles City, Mont. She was a 1975 graduate of Sheridan High School. She married Dana Fox in Billings after graduation, and they moved to Albuquerque before returning to Sheridan. Ms. Tappe lived in Sheridan the next 20 years, working at Trail’s End Restaurant as a cook and operating a commercial and residential janitorial service. She moved to Helena in 1990. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1977; her father; a sister, Carol M. Worden; and a great-nephew. Survivors include two sons, Max Fox and Dan Fox, both of Helena; her mother of Clinton, Iowa; two brothers, Pat Tappe of Clinton and Michael Tappe of Shakopee, Minn.; six sisters, Barbara Timmerman of Clinton, Katherine Kramer of Valentine, Neb., Ginger Blann of Fulton, Ill., and Kathleen Noel, Jo Gibson and Annie Tappe-Scarff, all of Helena; and four grandchildren. Wanda Shaver

Wanda Shaver, 67, of Sheridan died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2001, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Viewing and visitation are 5-6 p.m. Tuesday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Cremation will follow. Mrs. Shaver was born Jan. 1, 1934, in Missouri to Robert and Mabel (Gunter) Ives. The family came to Sheridan when she was young. She married John Bartlett July 3, 1954, in Sheridan. They lived in Sheridan, where she enjoyed painting and artwork. Her husband died in 1992. She married Fred Shaver Jan. 8, 1994, in Sheridan. He died in 2000. She enjoyed camping, fishing and being in the Big Horn Mountains. She was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers. Survivors include three daughters, Pam Davey and Brenda Knudson, both of Sheridan, and Vicki Bonsall, Bastrop, La.; and six grandchildren. Memorials are suggested to the Dog and Cat Shelter.

Robert Wheeler

Robert W. Wheeler, 71, of Story died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Oregon Trails Cemetery Chapel in Evansville with Pastor Jug Brandjorg officiating. Interment will be in Oregon Trails Cemetery. Kane Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Mr. Wheeler was born March 4, 1930, in Casper to William and Cora (Doyle) Wheeler. He attended Casper schools and was a graduate of Natrona County High School. He married Loy C. Callister Oct. 14, 1967. They made their home in Casper, Denver and, later, Story. He worked as a boilermaker at Amoco Refinery 18 years and was an inspector with Commercial Union Insurance for 20 years. He was a member of the Wyoming National Guard, retiring with the rank of major. He spent 18 years with the Casper Mountain National Ski Patrol and was named Ski Patroller for the Region. He was a member of the Flying Cowboys Radio Controlled Airplane Club and Sheridan Elks, and chaired the Story Advisory Board for many years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Raines Wheeler. Survivors include his wife, Loy; three nieces and one nephew; seven great-nieces and nephews; and four cousins. Barbara Daniels

Barbara L. Daniels, 80, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Heritage Towers with Pastors Kevin McMahon and Tony Forman co-officiating. Interment will be in Dayton Municipal Cemetery. Kane Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Mrs. Daniels was born Dec. 31, 1920, on the Five Mile Flat in Sheridan County to Francis and Harriet (Azelle) Carter. She grew up on Five Mile Flat and attended the Little Blue School in Parkman and Ranchester High School. She married Rex Daniels June 15, 1937, in Hardin, Mont. She had lived in Heritage Towers since 1997. She was preceded in death by her husband in December 1996. Survivors include a daughter, Jan Lloyd of Otter, Mont.; two sons, Richard of Sheridan and Raymond of Dublin, Calif.; a sister, Carol Masters of Dayton; and seven grandchildren. Grace T. Pergande, 91, of Sheridan died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Cremation has taken place, and graveside services will be in October. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. She was born Sept. 30, 1909, in Ridgeway, Mo.

James Morrison

James D. Morrison, 72, of Sheridan died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001, in Sheridan Manor. At his request, cremation has taken place, and no services will be held. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Charles Gregory Grisham

Charles Gregory “Greg” Grisham, 45, of Walled Lake, Mich., died Monday, Sept. 10, 2001. Funeral services and burial were Thursday in Walled Lake. Survivors include his wife, Susan; sons Greg and Kile Grisham of Sheridan; stepchildren Andrew Evans of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Kelly Evans of Walled Lake; his mother, Sally Tillman of Walled Lake; and a brother, Keith Grisham of Walled Lake. Cleo Jones

Bette Cleo Jones, 76, died Monday, Sept. 10, 2001, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Cremation has taken place. Services are 2 p.m. Friday at Kane Funeral Home with Father Emmet Hoffman officiating. Ms. Jones was born Feb. 15, 1925, in Cody, Neb., to Edwin and Opal (Middaugh) Knight. After graduation from high school, she went to work in the mailing department at St. Labre Mission in Ashland, Mont. She enjoyed bowling, bingo, knitting and crocheting and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Miles City, Mont. She was preceded in death by daughter Barbara Bender and grandsons Mark and Brian Bender and David Weathers. Survivors include daughters Doreen Brock of Gillette and Valerie Johnson of Sheridan; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Wanda Haverty

Wanda Haverty, 79, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, at Sheridan Manor. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be in Texas at a later date. Kane Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Mrs. Haverty was born Feb. 12, 1922, in Eskridge, Kan., to William and Elizabeth (Johnston) Orr. She married Robert Haverty in December 1940 in Nogales, Ariz. She worked in Bob Lenon’s engineering office in Patagonia, Ariz., and then at Patagonia High School for 12 years. She was a 4-H leader for many years. She enjoyed being a housewife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of the Krum Methodist Church, and was past matron of the Eastern Star in Nogales and Sanger, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband in June 1999. Survivors include her daughter, Sharon Gastelum of Buffalo; her three sons, Rex Haverty of Gaithersburg, Md., Clinton Haverty of Krum, Texas, and Col. Bruce Haverty of Mississippi; three sisters, Waketa Barngrover, Marjorie Hartman and Joy Clements, all of Kansas; two brothers, Edgar Hodges and Charles Hodges, both of Kansas; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mary Magdaline Jurosek, 95, of Sheridan died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, at Sheridan Manor. Rosary services are 7 p.m. Friday at Kane Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Name Catholic Church with Father Ron Stolcis officiating. She was born June 10, 1906, in Yarvorzynka, Poland, to George and Agnes (Czepczar) Urbatchka. She moved to the United States with her mother in 1913 to join her father, who came here seven years earlier. At age 7, she met her father for the first time at the Monarch train depot, where he was waiting with horse and buggy. She attended school in Kooi. She married Mike Jurosek in 1922. He was a laborer at the coal mines at Kooi and Geebo. He had moved to the states from Istebna, Poland, in his teens. After staying in Kooi for some time, they moved to Thermopolis, then Rock Springs, then Harlingen, Texas. They returned to to Sheridan in the 1940s and bought the Rialto Bar, which later became the Trail Bar, now The Chocolate Tree. She loved gardening, knitting, quilting, playing cards with her friends and baking and cooking, and had many large family dinners. She spent much time in her cabin in the Big Horn Mountains. She was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church and the Saint Agnes Group. Survivors include her son, Michael G. Jurosek of Big Horn; sisters, Agnes Gwinn of Sheridan and Elizabeth Ries of Tucson, Ariz.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband, a sister, Ann Urbatchka, a brother, George Urbatchka, and son Robert, all formerly of Sheridan. Geneva L. (Baas) Nohrenberg, 94, died Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, in Bellevue, Wash. Cremation has taken place. Her ashes were buried in Sheridan last month. Champion Ferries Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. She was born Dec. 1, 1906, in Litchville, N.D., to Jacob and Katherine Baas. The family moved in 1925 to Sheridan, where she graduated from Sheridan High School. She married Bernard Nohrenberg in 1936. He died in 1944. She moved to Seattle in 1950 from Sheridan and worked as a clerk for the Port of Seattle. She was a member of the University Presbyterian Church and sang in the church choir for many years. She remained in Seattle after retirement. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Hill was born April 14, 1907, in Sheridan to James and Lillie (Gamble) Mason. She married Glenn Hill July 27, 1928. They lived in the Ulm and Buffalo areas until moving to Sheridan in 1937. Her favorite pastimes were milking her cow, Susan, raising her large gardens and mowing her lawn. She also loved to cook for her large family dinners. She was a member of First Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1997, a daughter, Doris Elaine, in 1982, two brothers and two sisters. J. Byron Veach, 84, of Sheridan died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001, at his home. Viewing is until 7 p.m. today at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Graveside services are 10 a.m. Saturday in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with Allen Jones officiating. Mr. Veach was born Nov. 29, 1916, in Livingston, Mont., to Charles and Emma (Irwin) Veach. The family came to Johnson County when he was a young child. He grew up and attended schools in Johnson County. In 1932, he moved to Sheridan, where he ranched on Beaver Creek. He married Pauline Adams Dec. 16, 1940, in Sheridan. They continued ranching until he went to work for K-B Tractor Co. in the mid-1960s. Later, he worked for the city of Sheridan until he retired in 1984. During those years he worked at the sale ring of Sheridan Livestock Co. He loved the Big Horn Mountains, where he knew even the most remote lakes, and enjoyed introducing people to their beauty. He helped develop and groom the cross country trail at Sibley Lake and climbed Cloud Peak five times, the last when he was 80. He loved writing letters to the editor, feeling it was his civic duty, which he took seriously. He was a member of the county planning commission, District 2 school board in the late 1950s, and Trinity Lutheran Church Council in the 1950s-1960s. He also was a 4-H leader in the 1950s-1960s. He enjoyed hiking, fishing, cross country skiing and gardening. He was preceded in death by his brother, Benjamin, and a sister, Roene Adams. Survivors include his wife of Sheridan; daughters Charlotte Hein, Emma Jean (E.J.) Hando, and Kathy Oatts, all of Sheridan; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Steven M. Badgett, 43, Sheridan, died of cancer Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001, at the Salt Lake City VA Medical Center. Viewing is 1-7 p.m. Monday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Military rites are by the Wyoming National Guard and American Legion. Mr. Badgett grew up and graduated from high school in Sheridan. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in the 82nd Airborne. He lived in North Carolina several years until returning to Sheridan in 1990. He married Irene Jackson Oct. 25, 1990, in Sheridan. He worked for Guernsey Stone and then at the Holiday Inn until 1999. He later owned and operated Mountain Manufacturing. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge No. 43, Kalif Shrine, York Rite and the Director’s Staff. He enjoyed hunting, camping and fishing. He was preceded in death by his father. Survivors include his wife, Irene, of Sheridan; sons John of Fayetteville, N.C., and Gabriel Badgett of Sheridan; daughters Camie and Monica Jackson of Sheridan; his mother, Carolyn Badgett, of Sheridan; sisters Patricia Benskin of Cheyenne and Brenda Rodriguez, Sheridan; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. George Oliver Davidson

George Oliver Davidson, 96, died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001, at the VA Medical Center. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service is 2 p.m. Tuesday at the VA Medical Center Chapel with Chaplain Arden Haeffner officiating. His cremains will be buried at Lee Cemetery in Montana at a later date. Kane Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Davidson was born March 29, 1905, in Shell to Frank Davidson and Mary Sophia (Christiansen) Davidson. He lived in Shell until he was 5, and started school in Dayton at age 6. He attended schools in Troy and Libby, Mont., and graduated from high school at Birney, Mont., in 1924. He was an Army mess sergeant during World War II. He served in Scotland, the English Channel, Wales and France. He worked for Brewsters at the Quarter Circle U Ranch, the Three Circle Ranch, SH Ranch, Evan McRays Ranch, and Al Knoblochs Ranch, all in Montana. He also worked at several ranches in Big Horn before retiring to Sheridan. He was one of the first residents at Heritage Towers, and lived there until moving to the Nursing Home Care Unit at the Sheridan VA Medical Center about five years ago. He enjoyed reading Western books and watching animal shows on television. He had a great sense of humor and called himself “George Drives Alone” because of his travel around the country by himself. He had great love for family, friends, children and animals. He was preceded in death by one sister, Pearl Hayhome, and six brothers, Iver, Clarence, Roy, Mack, Gordon and David. He is survived by his caregivers of the past 25 years, niece and nephew Nancy and Dick Marquess of Big Horn; nephew Gordon Davidson of Bozeman, Mont.; and niece Ivene Mouat of Hardin, Mont. She was educated in a country school near her home and at Sebeka High School. She married Leo A. Nielsen March 26, 1929, in Wadena, Minn. They later moved to North Dakota, where they farmed from 1938 until Mr. Nielsen’s death in 1993. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Crystal Eierman and Joy Pederson, and a brother, Wendell Meech. Violet I. Stevenson, 82, of Sheridan died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.

She grew up and attended schools in Illinois. She married Charles Stevenson Dec. 24, 1934, in Illinois. She moved to Sheridan in 1943 and worked at the Coil Factory and later at Memorial Hospital. She went to work at the Sheridan VA as a nurse’s aide in 1966. She retired in 1983. She enjoyed bowling, fishing, gardening and spending time in the mountains. She was preceded in death by two brothers. Survivors include four sons, Charles of Upton, Roland of Lovington, N.M., and Kenneth and Keith, both of Sheridan; two sisters, Leota Lundquist and Normae Wilson of Illinois; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Clyde Hix Rowe, 92, of Lander died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001. Services were Wednesday. Mr. Rowe was born Oct. 18, 1908, at Urbana, Ill., to Howard and Flora (Hix) Rowe. The family moved to Sheridan, and he graduated from Sheridan High School in 1934. He married Mittie Mae Cox Oct. 2, 1936. During World War II, he was a “listener” who monitored radio transmissions for the Department of Secret Service. He had three shops in Lander for radio and later television repair. He was a master gunsmith and lapidarian. He was a founder of the Lander One Shot Antelope Hunt. Survivors include grandchildren Teho and Dennis Powers of Sheridan and Carol Stamm and Bruce Corbett of Lander; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Wilson was born June 19, 1910, in Elgin, N.D., to Henry and Margaret (Ganthner) Wentz. She attended schools in New Leipzig, N.D. She married Thomas Wilson in 1939 in Missoula and worked there as a cook at St. Patrick’s Hospital and the Missoula Country Club. She also worked as a housekeeper for many years. Mr. Wilson died in 1961. Mrs. Wilson moved to Sheridan in 1972. She baby-sat for Bible study groups and for many families in the area. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and Martha’s Circle. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidery and Bible study. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, four brothers and two grandchildren. ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Dustin Lee Gard, 19, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001, in Eagle River. He is the son of former Sheridan residents John and Debbie Gard. Services were last week in Eagle River. Mr. Gard was born May 27, 1982, in Sheridan. He moved to Alaska with his family in 1993. He loved snowmachining and many outdoor sports. He attended the University of Alaska-Anchorage and was an employee of Wal-Mart. Mr. Grevesen was born Sept. 4, 1916, in Perth Amboy, N.J., to Mathiese and Margaret Grevesen. He served in the Army in World War II. He married Elizabeth V. Breznak in 1947 in New Jersey, and they moved to Sheridan in 1948. He was a crane operator for N.A. Nelson Construction Co. in Montana and Wyoming from 1948 to 1970. He then worked for Husman Brothers Inc. in Wyoming from 1970 until retiring in 1976. He belonged to International Union of Operating Engineers, AFL-CIO Local 400, in Helena, Mont. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and bingo. He was preceded in death by his wife, a brother, and a sister. Survivors include two sons, Don of Surprise, Ariz., and Bill of New Jersey; 11 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. Myrtle Reukauf

Myrtle Reukauf, 85, of Sheridan, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Reukauf was born July 10, 1916, in Cope, Colo., to Frank and Viola (Aubert) Burns. She married Duane Reukauf in 1944 in San Francisco. He died in 1995. Mrs. Reukauf was a cook for several ranches in Montana and Wyoming and cooked pies for several restaurants in Sheridan for many years. She enjoyed life and camping, fishing, raising canaries and other birds. She enjoyed animals, her dolls and raising flowers, and especially her dog, Tuffy. Mrs. Reukauf was preceded in death by her husband; one son; seven brothers; and six sisters. Survivors include one grandson, Alan Hack of Sterling, Colo., and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials are suggested to Meals on Wheels in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank, Sheridan, WY.

Robert Irion

Robert Lue Irion, 71, of Sheridan died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Congregational Church in Broadus, Mont. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Irion was born Aug. 11, 1930, in Miles City, Mont., to Harlan L. and Helen Yerby Irion. He spent his early years on the family ranch on the Mizpah north of Broadus. He attended the Irion School and graduated from Broadus High School in 1947. He worked for Dick Smith on the Smith Ranch for several years before joining his father in the trucking business. He married Venita Sherva of Baker, Mont., in 1954. They lived in Sheridan and spent winters in Phoenix. Survivors include his wife; a son, Douglas of Temeculah, Calif.; a daughter, Kristi Milam of Top of the World near Yellowstone Park; two sisters, Glenda Somers of Phoenix and Mary Ann McCullough of Ashland, Mont.; and six grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

James Dudley

Former Sheridan resident James Allen Dudley, 78, of Rapid City died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001 at Rapid City Regional Hospital. Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at South Park United Church of Christ in Rapid City with the Rev. Bruce Herrboldt and the Rev. Hector Merced officiating. Arrangements are with Kirk Funeral Home of Rapid City. Mr. Dudley was born Jan. 5, 1923, in Oak, Neb., to Irvin and Addie (Allen) Dudley. He attended schools in Sheridan. He married Lucile Ratcliff Oct. 29, 1945, in Sheridan. They moved to Rapid City in 1951. Survivors include his wife; three children, Catherine Merced of Minneapolis, Carol Barber of Wall and Don Paris of Seattle; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
