David William Barbula, 16, of Sheridan died Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Memorial services will be 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Sheridan High School Auditorium with the Rev. Joseph Keys officiating. Arrangements are pending with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Lloyd G. Rummel, 59, of Sheridan died Monday, Sept. 23, 2002, at his residence. Viewing will be 5-7 p.m. today at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday in the Bruce Hoffman Golden Dome at Sheridan College with the Revs. Chuck Lucas, Bill Wetmore and Nathan Salo officiating. Burial will be in Hanover, Pa. Mr. Rummel was born April 2, 1943, in Pennsylvania to Lloyd and Delma (Althoff) Rummel. He grew up on a farm near Hanover and attended schools in Hanover. He served in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1966. He married Faye Jones Aug. 14, 1967, in Hanover, and they moved to Wyoming. He attended the University of Wyoming, then moved to Colorado, where he received his bachelors and masters degrees from the University of Northern Colorado. He received his welding certificate in Fort Collins, Colo. The Rummels returned to Pennsylvania, and he taught welding at Westmoreland County Community College until 1977, when they moved to Sheridan. Mr. Rummel started teaching at Sheridan College as the welding program began and was an instructor there ever since. He was involved in Boy Scouts and Sheridan Wesleyan Church, where he served on the board of trustees and taught Sunday school. He was a member of Masonic Big Horn Mountain Lodge 43 and Sheridan County Sportsmens Association. He enjoyed model airplane flying, hunting, four-wheeling, ham radio operation, leather working, blacksmithing, gunsmithing and reloading. He was preceded in death by his mother and a brother, Robert. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Christopher of Lander and Jonathan of Sheridan; his father of Pennsylvania; four brothers, Jim and Rick of Hanover, Terry of New Oxford, Pa., and Wayne of Thornton, Colo.; two sisters, Bonnie Long of Hanover and Lisa Rummel of New Cumberland, Pa.; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Wallace Charles Jorgensen, 87, of Sheridan died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Viewing will be 7 p.m. today at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Grace Baptist Church with Pastor Stephen Anderson officiating. Mr. Jorgensen was born July 15, 1915, in Crook County to Charles P. and Frankie (Martin) Jorgensen. He married Marie Ellis Oct. 8, 1940, in Sundance. He worked many years as a heavy-equipment operator with Northwest Engineering. He retired in 1981, and the Jorgensens moved to Sheridan. He enjoyed attending church, gardening, mechanical tinkering and being with family and friends. He was preceded in death by a son, Carl, and two brothers, Harley and Lloyd. Survivors include his wife; two sons, LeRoy of North Bend, Wash., and Dean of Sheridan; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Grace Baptist Church, P.O. Box 6522, Sheridan, WY 82801. Charles Helvey Charles "Thad" Helvey, 79, of Decker, Mont., died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, in a Great Falls, Mont., hospital of natural causes. He was father of Nancy M. Helvey of Sheridan. Services will be in Sheridan at a later date. Cremation will take place under direction of the Chapel of Chimes Funeral Home in Great Falls. Mr. Helvey was a cowboy and a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. Survivors include two sons, John B. of Bozeman, Mont., and Curtis T. of Augusta, Mont.; a second daughter, Angela E. of Poplar, Mont.; and two grandchildren.

Esther Evelyn Stevison, 79, died Monday, Sept. 23, 2002, at Sheridan Manor, where she had resided the past several years. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with Pastor Kirk Peters officiating. Family and friends are invited to meet at Kane Funeral Home before the services. Mrs. Stevison was born June 9, 1923, in Sheridan to Charles and Mary E. McCoy. She attended schools here. She married John B. Stevison Jan. 10, 1946. She was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She loved working with children, the autumn season and her cats, especially Smoky. Her father was an Irish immigrant, and she was proud of her Irish ancestry. She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers and two sisters. Survivors include a son, John C. of Sheridan; two daughters, Joyce Arbach of Hoven, S.D.; a brother, Carl F. McCoy of Sheridan; and two granddaughters. UCROSS Alexander Pitsch, 88, of Ucross died Friday, Sept. 20, 2002, in Westview Health Care Center. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Thursday at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday in Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor William Heine officiating. Mr. Pitsch was born May 14, 1914, in Billings to Peter and Katherine (Hettinger) Pitsch. He ranched his entire working life at the Big Red. He married LeOra Mathew June 2, 1935. He enjoyed hunting and farming. He loved his family. He called all his granddaughters and great-granddaughters "Toots" and all his grandsons and great-grandsons "Joe." He was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and served on numerous boards in the church, community and state. He was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters. Survivors include his wife of Sheridan; three daughters, Doris Schuman of Sheridan, Nelda Simonson of Buffalo and Patricia Ogan of Reno, Nev.; four sons, Gerald of Oak Harbor, Wash., Leland of St. Charles, Mo., Curtis of Buffalo and Peter of Rock Springs; 27 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren. Telka Driskill, 84, of Sheridan died Monday, Sept. 23, 2002, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at First Christian Church with the Rev. Doug Goodwin officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Elks Cemetery. Kane Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Mrs. Driskill was born June 18, 1918, in Cheyenne to Roy L. and Anna (Farris) Wilson. She married Webb M. Driskill Aug. 10, 1941, in Hardin, Mont. In the late 1940s, they purchased the Rex Barber and Beauty Shop, and he barbered in the front while she operated the beauty shop in the back. She was hairdresser at Champions Funeral Home for more than 50 years, working for Mervin Champion and later for Jim Kane. She was a member of First Christian Church, where she attended Sunday school, played the piano and sang tenor in the choir. Her hobbies included crocheting dolls and afghans, and she enjoyed china painting. She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, Eldon Wilson. Survivors include a daughter, Peggy of Sheridan; a stepdaughter, Barbara Alcorta of Westminster, Colo.; a brother, Jack R. Wilson of Lodge Grass, Mont.; six grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Donald Jandreau, 80, Sheridan, died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, at Sheridan VA Medical Center after a long illness. Cremation has taken place, and at his request there will be no services. Mr. Jandreau was born July 15, 1922, in Fort Lupton, Colo., to Joe and Cordia (Hemphill) Jandreau. He joined the Navy after graduating from high school. He and his wife, Grace, were married Nov. 15, 1955, in Fort Lupton. They resided in Newcastle, where he worked in engineering for the Wyoming Highway Department. They moved in 1962 to Sheridan, where he owned and operated Dons Vacuum & Sewing for 38 years until retiring. He enjoyed crafts, woodworking, fly-fishing and cooking for his family and friends. A life member of Disabled American Veterans, he also belonged to American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest and Louis William Jandreau; and three sisters, Inez, Mary Lou and Shirley Jean. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Janice Wheeler and Shirley Roush, both of Sheridan; two sons, Don Jandreau, Washougal, Wash., and Jerry Jandreau, Gillette; two sisters, Glora May Ragsdale and Cordia Burgess, both of Casper; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home.

Ruth G. Sherard, 86, of Ontario, Ore., died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002, in an Ontario care center. She was sister of Margaret Pilch and Lena Koltiska, both of Sheridan. Graveside services were Aug. 10 in Canyon Hill Cemetery in Caldwell, Ore. Mrs. Sherard was born July 22, 1916, in Decker, Mont., to Everett Jasper and Maggie Ellen Verly Welch. She was a 1933 graduate of Big Horn High School. She married Lowell C. Sherard, and they lived in various locations in the Northwest during his construction career. They moved to Canyon County in 1969 and to Ontario in 1993. Mr. Sherard died in 1999. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Sherard was preceded in death by brothers Everett J. Welch Jr. and David Earl Welch and sisters Marjorie Ensor, Mary Ellen Good Palmier, Rosalee McCalla and Florence Boyer. Survivors in addition to her sisters include children James E. Sherard of Parma, Ore., Dale E. Sherard and Harry J. Sherard, both of Marsing, Ore., Sharon L. Glascock of Apple Valley, Ore., and Aaron D. Sherard of Nampa, Ore.; and several grandchildren.
DAYTON Grace Hager, 92, of Dayton died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, at her residence. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Kane Funeral Home with Pastor Robert Logan officiating. Mrs. Hager was born April 18, 1910, in Beaver County, Okla., to John and Maude (Osborne) Blakesley. The family moved to Dayton in 1918. After graduating from high school, Mrs. Hager taught at the Little Blue School on Five Mile Flat north of Dayton. She married John Hager Dec. 20, 1930, in Sheridan. She worked as cook at the IXL Dude Ranch. She enjoyed playing bridge, cooking, yard work and spending time with her extended family and friends. She was a member of Dayton Congregational Church and belonged to Dayton School Benefit Club since 1945. She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Mary Ann Smith; and a sister, Gladys. Lloyd N. Jackson, 83, of Sheridan died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, in Sheridan Manor. Rosary will be 7 p.m. today at Kane Funeral Home. Mass of the Christian Burial will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Holy Name Catholic Church. Mr. Jackson was born June 13, 1919, in Casper to Lloyd L. and Mary (OConnell) Jackson. He graduated from high school, then joined the Army in June 1942. He served in the Pacific Theater until his discharge in December 1945. He married Norma Siegle Jan. 8, 1946, in Pueblo, Colo. They moved to Sheridan soon after. Mr. Jackson worked 43 years as wirechief manager of communications for the CB&Q Burlington Northern Railroad. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, building and home repair. He also was an American Morse Telegrapher, Telephone and Telegraph engineer and a teletype repairman. He was a founder of Sheridan House Inc. and had served as treasurer of the corporation since its founding. He was a member of the board of directors of Sheridan Railroad Credit Union for more than 30 years, Boy Scout Troop 108 leader and member of Knights of Columbus. He served as an usher at Holy Name Catholic Church for 50 years. He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Janet Lawrence of Buffalo; two sons, Nicholas of Yigo, Guam, and William of Billings; three sisters, Alice Wells of Eureka, Calif., Patty Bates of Redding, Calif., and Maxine Stancher of Banning, Calif.; a brother, Howard of Cottonwood, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. STORY John F. Cummings, 83, of Story died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002, in Sheridan Manor. Cremation has taken place. A private family graveside service will be at a later date in Quiet Rest Cemetery in Story. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Cummings was born Oct. 20, 1918, in Rawlins to Patrick and Agnes (Magner) Cummings. He graduated from high school, then earned a pharmacy degree at the University of Wyoming. He joined the Army in August 1942 and served as a pharmacist until January 1946, when he separated from the military and began a career as a self-employed pharmacist. He married Ivy Barksdale Oct. 4, 1942, in Sacramento, Calif. He enjoyed fishing, skiing and mechanics and was a master mechanic and carpenter. He owned Professional Pharmacy for many years. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mary Cummings Talaga of Fair Oaks, Calif.; two sons, Pat of Sheridan and Mike of Helena, Mont.; two sisters, Margaret Cummings and Jeannette Ramundo Cummings, both of Sacramento; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Dieter Heckel, 54, of Sheridan died Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002, at his residence. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be in California at a later date. Mr. Heckel was born Oct. 19, 1947, in Wiesbaden, Germany. The family moved to the United States when he was a child. He graduated from high school and attended college. He entered the Army in December 1967 and served until 1974. He received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Survivors include his parents, Robert and Ruth Heckel of Washington; a son, Timothy of California; two sisters, Barbara of Washington and Susan of California; and two brothers, Carl and Roger, both of California.

Former Sheridan resident Rolf Larsen Slettene, 70, of Richland, Wash., died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, at his residence. Memorial services will be at 6 p.m. Friday at the family home, 264 Thyme Circle in Richland. Arrangements are with Einans Funeral Home. Mr. Slettene was born June 4, 1932, in Chicago. He was a geophysicist for the U.S. Geological Survey and for private industry. He lived in Sheridan 10 years after he retired from the federal government. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He was past Wyoming State president of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Survivors include his wife, Loretta Slettene; and two sons, Brad of West Richland, Wash., and Randall of Piscataway, N.J. L.L. "Bill" Anderson, 81, of Sheridan died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002, in the Sheridan VA Medical Center. Viewing will be 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. Thursday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday in Immanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. William Heine officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Elks Cemetery with military rites by the Wyoming National Guard and American Legion. Mr. Anderson was born Nov. 14, 1920, in Parkman to Elmer and Hattie (Cooper) Anderson. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, and worked in construction after the war. He married Hilda Needens Oct. 29, 1949, in Buffalo. They moved to Midwest, where he worked in the oil fields for Standard Oil. He moved to Sheridan in 1961 and worked for Big Horn Coal until he retired. He belonged to Elks Lodge 520 and the American Legion. He enjoyed walking, hunting, fishing, playing pool and cards and doing yard work. He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. Survivors include his wife, of Sheridan; a son, Butch of Brush, Colo.; a daughter, Rose Franzmeier of Renton, Wash.; four sisters, Frances Dodd of Sheridan, Ann Kuhl of Forsythe, Mont., and Ethel Sales and Betty Kincaid, both of Citrus Heights, Calif.; four grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Carmella Ball, 88, of Sheridan died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Rosary will be recited 7 p.m. Tuesday at Kane Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday in Holy Name Catholic Church with the Rev. Ron Stolcis officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Elks Cemetery. Mrs. Ball was born June 26, 1914, in Kleenburn to Bruno and Francesca (Carozza) Panetta. She helped her father run grocery stores in Kleenburn and Sheridan while she was in high school. She graduated from high school and managed the Sweetbriar Shop in Sheridan for several years. She married Irwin Ball June 16, 1946, in Sheridan. She enjoyed playing bridge, cooking, sewing, golf, dancing and spending time with her family and friends. She belonged to Holy Name Catholic Church, Sheridan Country Club, the Altar & Rose Society, a bridge club and was a charter member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority. She was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters, Jean Panetta and Ethel Yorio; and three brothers, Walt, Joe and Frank. Survivors include a son, Richard of Sheridan; a daughter, Debbie Powell of Sheridan; one sister, Rose Calandra of Los Angeles; two granddaughters; and one great-granddaughter. Leland Dee Brown, 76, died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002, at Sheridan VA Medical Center. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service is planned at a later date. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Brown was born Oct. 8, 1925, in Hooper, Utah, to Leland S. and Leona Brown. The family moved to Worland in 1926. Mr. Brown was a veteran of World War II. He married Alberta Williams April 28, 1946. He worked in the roofing business with his father and brothers for most of his life. He enjoyed fly-fishing on Ten Sleep Creek and hunting elk in the Big Horn Mountains. Survivors include two sisters, Thelma Schmidt of Georgetown, Texas, and Beverly Hankins of Shell; and a brother, Jerry R. of Shell.
Former Sheridan resident Ursula E. Rexroat, 58, of Eden Prairie, Minn., died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, of cancer. A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Thursday in St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Eden Prairie preceded by visitation at 2 p.m. Mrs. Rexroat was born March 16, 1944, in Stuttgart, Germany, to Albrecht and Anna Woerner. She moved permanently to the United States in 1974 and came to Sheridan in 1975. She worked at Piper Jaffray for more than 20 years. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family and friends. She moved to Eden Prairie in 1994. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Louis (Rusty). Survivors include two sons, Harald Stephens of Leominster, Mass., and Kermit Stephens of Eden Prairie; and a sister, Edith Woerner of Stuttgart. Sheridan County native Harry Anthony Daniels, 84, of Deadwood, S.D., died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002, at the VA Medical Center in Sturgis, S.D. Services were Sept. 10 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Deadwood. Burial with military honors was at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. Mr. Daniels was born Aug. 6, 1918, in Kleenburn to John and Lucia (Mancini) Daniels. He grew up in the Sheridan area and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1940. He served in the South Pacific during World War II. He and his brother began a broadcasting career in July 1947 with KDSJ radio in Deadwood. They expanded their operation with KRSD radio in 1953, KRSD television in 1958 and KDSJ television in 1960. Mr. Daniels retired in 1982. He was inducted into the South Dakota Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 1993. He married Mary Hill in May 1949; they lived in Deadwood. He was a member of Saint Ambrose Catholic Church of Deadwood, a 50-year member of Elks, a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of Knights of Columbus. He loved life, nature and time with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother. Gerald S. Gwinn, 83, Sheridan, died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peters Episcopal Church, the Rev. Ray Clark and Father David Duprey officiating, with a reception to follow. Private graveside services are Tuesday. Mr. Gwinn was born June 23, 1919, to David E. and Frances S. Gwinn. A Sheridan native, he graduated from Sheridan High School in 1938 and lived here most of his life. He also attended Kemper Military Academy and the University of Wyoming. He excelled in school sports and was named to the All-State high school football team his senior year. He was heard on KROE radios "Time in for Sports." He worked in sales and marketing and was associated with Sheridan Commercial Co., a Gwinn family business for many years. He served on the Vernon S. and Rowena W. Griffith Foundation Board and was a longtime member of Elks Lodge. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and golf. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and George, and by his first wife, Jean. Survivors include his wife, Agnes; two sons, Seth Gwinn, Fremont, Neb., and Geoff Tripalin, Madison, Wis.; two stepdaughters, Maureen and Barbara Humphrys; and four grandchildren. She graduated from Nettleton Business College in Sioux Falls, S.D., and lived and worked there three years. She moved to Sheridan in 1944. She married Laurence Mathew in Billings April 5, 1947. She was a secretary at Coffeen School for 14 years then worked as secretary/bookkeeper for Heritage Towers from 1980 when the facilities opened until 1985 when she retired. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She volunteered at Sheridan Community Health Flu Clinics and was a 1,000-hour volunteer at Memorial Hospital. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening and raising flowers. She was preceded in death by her husband, in 1976, and by a brother, Kenneth. Survivors include a son, Donald of Sheridan; two daughters, Jeanine Jackson of Kabul, Afghanistan, and Reenie Cynova of Wichita, Kansas; a brother, Ernest Zickrick of Rapid City; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Martha Sasse Reiter, 80, and Army Colonel (Ret.) Richard August Reiter, 81, of South Dakota, died within a few weeks of each other this summer. They were parents of Joanne Bornong of Sheridan. Mrs. Reiter died July 16, 2002, at her home. Funeral services were July 22 at Custer Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Dan Benedict officiating. Col. Reiter died Aug. 4, 2002, in Rapid City Regional Hospital after a long illness. Funeral services were Aug. 9 at the Wesleyan Church with Rev. Benedict officiating. Burial for the Reiters was in the Black Hills National Cemetery. McColleys Chapels of the Hills in Custer handled arrangements for both services. Mrs. Reiter was born Dec. 29, 1921, in Gordon, Neb., to Carl W. and Alice (Dixon) Sasse. The family farmed, then later moved to a ranch near Batesland, S.D. Mrs. Reiter attended Gordon public schools. She moved to Washington, D.C., to work as a secretary for the Department of the Navy. She met Col. Reiter there, and they were married April 21, 1946, in Wilmington, Del. Col. Reiter was born Feb. 14, 1921, in Wilmington to August Reiter Sr. and Madeline (Piellisch) Reiter. He was educated in Wilmington public schools and later attended Temple University to study electronics. He enlisted with the Delaware Army National Guards Coast Artillery Regiment Sept. 3, 1940, and entered active duty Sept. 16, 1940. He served in Foreign Service in the South Pacific during World War II. The Reiters lived in Delaware from 1946-47. Col. Reiter reentered the Delaware Army National Guard in January 1947 and served in many positions including Chief of Military Support, Battalion Commander and State Inspector General. He received the Second Bronze Star, Purple Heart and the Conspicuous Service Cross for exemplary dedication and performance of duty throughout his career. Mrs. Reiter enjoyed her home, painting and gardening and loved spending time with her family. Col. Reiter retired after 36 years of service in the Army and was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General for the Delaware National Guard. The couple moved to Custer and built a home near Pleasant Valley. He served as veterans service officer for Custer County and on local hospital, airport and planning boards. He was a member of the Optimist international organization, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion, Masonic Lodge and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors include two sons, Rick of Evansville, Ind., and Greg of Newark, Del.; another daughter, Karen Mangus of Virginia Beach, Va.; and six grandchildren. Mrs. Reiter also is survived by a sister, Elaine Burleigh of Gordon, Neb., and a brother, Carl Sasse of Walker, Minn. Col. Reiter also is survived by a sister, Caroline Finachi of Wilmington.

Mr. Harris was born Feb. 21, 1921, in Sheridan to Frank and Maude (Filmore) Harris. He grew up and graduated from high school in Sheridan. He worked on the railroad until he enlisted in the Marines during World War II. He received a Purple Heart and other commendations during service. He moved to California after the service. He married Beatrice Eib there. He worked as a truck driver until 1963 when he returned to Sheridan. He worked for a lumber company in Sheridan until he retired. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading and working on old cars. He was preceded in death by a son, Frank, and by sisters Merle Shreve, Molly Frye, Ruth Harris and Effie Holman. Survivors include two daughters, Marilyn Durand of Hoodsport, Wash., and Linda Halliday of Lacey, Wash.; his companion Orel Robbins of Sheridan; a stepson, Frank Robbins of Dayton; three stepdaughters, Donna Wilson of Sheridan, Bertha Cox of Gillette and Carmen Kwolek of Munhall, Pa.; a sister, Ferne Willey of Ellensburg, Wash.; and numerous grandchildren. Her first position was in the Bundy School, South of Gillette, where she taught all grades. She met Joe N. Maycock at a country dance, and they were married July 30, 1934, in Hardin, Mont. They spent the next 50 years together on their family ranch west of Gillette. Mrs. Maycock spent her winters in town starting in 1954, and she served as a member of the school board and supervised the high-school youth group for the Presbyterian Church of which she has been a member of for many years. She and Mr. Maycock in their later years spent their winters in Mesa, Ariz. Mr. Maycock died in 1996, and Mrs. Maycock moved to Sheridan. She was a resident of Sugarland Ridge Retirement Home. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Alice, and two infant sons. Survivors include a daughter, Joan Record of Sheridan; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was an avid fan of the Sheridan Broncs, Wyoming Cowboys and Denver Broncos. She was preceded in death by her husband, seven sisters, a brother and a grandson. Former Sheridanite Vivian Beatrice Berg, 81, of Oro Grande, Calif., died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, in a Victorville, Calif., hospital. They moved to Sheridan, then to Rapid City for four years before returning here. Mrs. Berg worked for Kiewit and Husman Bros. Mr. Berg died in 1992. Sheridan native Ruth Constance Guyer Jones, 97, died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, in Colorado Springs, Colo. Graveside services will be noon Friday in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with the Rev. Lonnie Eschliman officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Jones was born March 20, 1905, in Sheridan to Edmond Grant Guyer and Anna Johnson Guyer. She graduated from Sheridan High School 1924 and from Hastings College in Hastings, Neb., in 1929. She taught school at Big Horn one year, then at Buffalo five years She then taught school in Sheridan 20 years, including seven years at Sheridan Junior High and 13 years at Sheridan High School. She sponsored the Sheridan High School yearbook, the Bronco, for at least 10 years. She married J. Harold Jones Dec. 19, 1953. She belonged to Chapter T, PEO, since 1934 and was its former president. She was a member of the American Association of University Women, the YWCA and First Presbyterian Church in Sheridan. She was believed to be the oldest living member of the church. She had resided the last five years with her stepson and his wife in Colorado Springs. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1952 and by a brother, Dr. Edmond Elarth Guyer. Survivors include a stepson, Allen of Colorado Springs; a sister, Dorothy Guyer Bennett of Lincoln, Neb.; and three nieces.

Mr. Stone was preceded in death by his wife in 1988; a brother; and two sons, Leroy in 1997 and an infant son, Leland, in 1930. Funeral services for Mr. Wintermute and his late wife, Hazel Wintermute, will be 10 a.m. Saturday in the Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joel Wright of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in the Gillette-Mount Pisgah Cemetery with full military honors for Mr. Wintermute provided by American Legion Post 42. Mrs. Wintermute, 77, died Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, in Campbell County Memorial Hospital of natural causes. Her services were rescheduled, so Saturdays double funeral service and burial could take place. Her obituary was published in the Sept. 4 Sheridan Press. Their survivors include a grandchild, nieces and a nephew in the Sheridan area. Mr. Wintermute was preceded in death by a brother, Forrest Eugene. Other survivors include two sons, William "Fred" of Gillette and George of Buffalo; two daughters, Nellie Belle Larsen of Jacksonville, Fla., and Hazel A. Morrow-Allen of Gillette; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Elizabeth "Bette" Cole, 76, of Story died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002, in Johnson County Health Care Center. A celebration of her life will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of the Oregon Trail Veterans Cemetery in Casper. Burial will be in Oregon Trail Veterans Cemetery. Mrs. Cole was born Oct. 31, 1925, to Edward and Leora Hubbard in a log cabin on Crazy Woman Creek south of Buffalo. She spent her life on Crazy Woman, attending Buffalo High School until 1942, then graduating from Campbell County High School in Gillette in 1944. She earned a teaching certificate from National Business School in Rapid City and taught in a country school in Campbell County. She married Robert E. Cole of Gillette in 1947. They moved to Midwest and lived there until 1982, when they retired to Story. Mrs. Cole was an avid quilter. She never missed the Hubbard family reunions, and she served as the Hubbard family historian. She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles. Survivors include her husband of Story; a son, Bob, of Story; a daughter, Cheryl Pesicka, of Casper; two brothers, Robert Hubbard of Denver and John Hubbard of Gillette; four sisters, Marjorie McKinzie of Gillette, Mona Hunt of Columbia Falls, Mont., Peggy Faler of Thermopolis and Pauline Raver of Worland; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Karl J. Fiedor, 54, of Sheridan died Monday, Sept. 2, 2002, at his residence. Cremation has taken place. Private family memorial services will be held. Kane Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Mr. Fiedor was born Jan. 25, 1948, in Ranchester to Edward and Agnes (Belish) Fiedor. He married after graduation from high school, but he and his wife later divorced. He worked in construction for many years. He was a woodworker and enjoyed the outdoors and hunting. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John. Survivors include two daughters, Jamie Fiedor and Jeannette Moreland of Colorado; a son, Tieg of Colorado; four sisters, Catherine Brantz and Theresa Mock, both of Sheridan, Marie Parkison of Gillette and Joan Mlinar of Oneal, Neb.; six brothers, Joe, Robert and Anton, all of Sheridan, Jack of Ranchester, Thomas of Casper and Edward of Laramie; and five grandchildren. Ranchester native Mary Barbara OLeary, 82, died Monday, Sept. 2, 2002, at her home in Spokane, Wash. Rosary will be recited 7 p.m. Sunday in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Buffalo. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Sunday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Father Charles Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Willow Grove Cemetery, Buffalo. Mrs. OLeary was born Oct. 24, 1919, in Ranchester to Joseph and Kate Washut. The family moved to Buffalo when she was a child. She graduated from Johnson County High School in 1937 and attended business college. She married Donald C. "Jack" OLeary March 23, 1939. They lived in California while he was in the military, then returned to Buffalo, where she worked for the high school from 1970 until retiring in 1986. She was an active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Mr. OLeary died in 1982. Mrs. OLeary moved to Spokane in 1995 to be near a daughter. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, three brothers and two sisters. Survivors include three daughters, Marilyn Brenden of Helena, Mont., Mary Larsen of Broken Bow, Neb., and Carole Condon of Spokane; a son, John, of Bakersfield, Calif.; a sister, Helen Clark, of Buffalo; and five grandchildren. William "Allen" Rabe, 94, of Sheridan died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2002, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.Cremation has taken place. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home.Mr. Rabe was born Aug. 5, 1908, in Belle Fourche, S.D., to William and Pearl (Conley) Rabe.He graduated from high school and married Edweena Astin.He worked as a district shop foreman for the Wyoming Highway Department until retirement in 1974.Mrs. Rabe died in 1982.Mr. Rabe married Alta Foss in 1983, and they made their home in Sheridan, spending the last 16 winters in Arizona. Sheridan native Georgia Rosalie Melneck, 81, of Miles City, Mont., died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002, in Holy Rosary Extended Care Center. Memorial services will be at a later date in Sheridan. Arrangements are with Bullis Graves Memorial Chapel and Eastern Montana Crematory of Miles City. Mrs. Melneck was born April 11, 1921, in Sheridan to Edgar and Zora Hamilton. She was a 1939 graduate of Sheridan High School. She married Michael James Melneck of Sheridan in 1940. She was a bookkeeper and homemaker, and he worked for F.W. Woolworth Co. Mrs. Melneck was an avid bridge player and golfer, and she kept her 9 iron even after poor health made her give up golf. She moved to Miles City after her husband retired in 1982. She was preceded in death by her husband. Survivors include four children, Michael James of Denver, Vicki Bates of New Freedom, Pa., and Nancy Smith and Ginger Kiel, both of Miles City; 10 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. She was a member of Holy Name Church and enjoyed spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers and two sisters. Survivors include two sons, Tom of Stansbury Park and Richard of Worland; five brothers; two sisters; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
