Doris Hall

Doris Hall, 88, of Sheridan died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Doug Melius officiating. Burial will be 2:30 p.m. Friday in Moorcroft Municipal Cemetery with the Rev. Donovan Voight officiating. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Hall was born Feb. 23, 1916, in Oberlin, Kan., to Charles and Dolly McCalla. The family homesteaded east of Moorcroft on the Key Hole Reservoir. She was a 1933 graduate of Moorcroft High School. She was a rural school teacher and later became a dental assistant. She married Gerald Hall on June 12, 1935. She lived in Denver before moving to Sheridan. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening and reading and was a member of the Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, James; a brother, Charles McCalla; an infant brother; and a grandson. Survivors include a son, Gary of Sheridan; two sisters, Evelyn Kimbrell of Denver and Charlotte Hillstead of Vancouver, Wash.; five grandsons; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Irene Clara Wilson

Irene Clara Wilson, 76, of Sheridan died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004, in Westview Health Care Center. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Name Catholic Church with the Rev. Ron Stolcis officiating. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Wilson was born April 27, 1928, in Sheridan to Charles and Catherine (Eckerman) Jacobs. She married James T. Wilson on Dec. 26, 1962, in Sheridan. She worked in the Holy Name cafeteria and for Buckingham Transport and Boyd's Supermarket and was bookkeeper for Gamble Robinson's and co-owner of Sheridan Home Delivery. She enjoyed tole painting, crossword puzzles, the Big Horn Mountains and horse racing. She was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. Survivors include her husband of Sheridan; four sons, Steve Overgaard of Sarasota, Fla., Alan of Chattanooga, Tenn., and David and Thomas, both of Sheridan; a daughter, Kathryn Harrison of Sheridan; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Zeola `Fern' Banas

Zeola “Fern” Banas, 76, of Sheridan died Thursday, Sept. 23, 2004, at her residence. Cremation has taken place, and memorial services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Kane Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Lucas officiating. Inurnment will be at Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mrs. Banas was born Jan. 6, 1928, in Belleview, Colo., to James and Dora (Brubaker) Hale. The family lived in Belleview and Buffalo before moving to Sheridan 70 years ago. She married Andrew Banas Oct. 12, 1953, in Basin. She enjoyed cooking, travel and shopping. She was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley, and a brother, Jack. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Jackie of Santa Clarita, Calif.; two sons, John of Houston and Joe of Greeley, Colo.; a sister, Jessie Mitchell of Sheridan; and three grandchildren.

Margie Miller

Margie Miller, 73, of Sheridan died Monday, Sept. 20, 2004, at her residence. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Family Life Center with the Rev. Kent Bahruth officiating. Burial of cremains will be in Sheridan Elks Cemetery. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Miller was born Feb. 1, 1931, in Sheridan County to Roy and Maude (Conner) Endicott. She grew up and attended schools in Sheridan County. She married Lawrence Miller on Dec. 19, 1953. They ranched on Pass Creek until they retired. Mr. Miller died in 2003. Mrs. Miller enjoyed visiting with family and friends and going to the Sheridan Senior Citizens Center. Survivors include a son, Everett of Parkman; five daughters, Marilyn King of Eagle Point, Ore., Karen Spaulding of Sheridan, Nancy Gehm of Rapid City and Jeannie Crabtree and Peggy Persinger, both of Billings; and 16 grandchildren. Charles N. Weigand

Charles N. Weigand, 97, of Hardin, Mont., died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004, in Big Horn County (Mont.) Memorial Nursing Home. He was brother of Kathryn Brown of Sheridan. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday in Bullis Funeral Chapel in Hardin. Cremation will follow, with private family inurnment planned in Hardin Fairview Cemetery. Mr. Weigand was born June 17, 1907, in Grand Island, Neb., to John and Kate Muller Weigand. The family moved to the Decker, Mont., area when he was a child. He later attended schools in Sheridan. He worked for several area ranches and for the sugar factory in Sheridan for three years. He moved to Hardin in 1937 to begin a career at the Holly Sugar factory. He retired in 1972 as assistant superintendent. He married Alice Gordon on Oct. 15, 1934, in Sheridan. They made their home in Hardin. He enjoyed fishing, hunting pheasants and golf in his younger years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and Hardin Senior Citizens. In addition to his sister, survivors include his wife; two daughters, Jean Kukes of Hardin and Carol Garretson of Billings; a son, Donald of Hardin; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Hardin Senior Citizens Center or a charity of the donor's choice.

Elmer C. Hillier

Elmer C. Hillier, 79, of Story died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Grace Chapel in Story with the Rev. Phillip Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Quiet Rest Cemetery in Story. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Hillier was born April 19, 1925, in Canuck, Saskatchewan, Canada, to Ray N. and Josephine (Dahlman) Hillier. He attended schools in Tabor, Saskatchewan, and attended Malta (Mont.) High School. He worked as a seismographer for Young Exploration from 1946-69. He married Lillian M. Gendron Oct. 27, 1956. They moved to Story, where he owned and operated Hillier Texaco from 1969-90. He was a volunteer fireman for the Story Fire Department from 1969-91. He was a member of Grace Chapel. He enjoyed fishing, camping, maintenance work and home improvements. He was preceded in death by a sister. Survivors include his wife, of Story and Sheridan; two sons, Ronald of Las Vegas and Gerald of West Yellowstone, Mont.; a brother, Alvin L. of Boulder, Mont.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Lehman J. Brothers

BUFFALO — Lehman Jackson Brothers, 82, of Buffalo died Monday, Sept. 20, 2004, in Sheridan VA Medical Center. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Big Horn Baptist Church in Buffalo with the Rev. Robin Gray officiating. Visiting hours will be 1-9 p.m. Thursday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo. Burial will be in Willow Grove Cemetery with graveside honors by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Memorials may be made to the St. Francis Animal Shelter in care of the funeral home.

John Tucker Willson, whose obituary appeared in Tuesday's Press, was a graduate of Denver University. Also, his survivors include a sister, Harriet. Her name was misspelled in information provided to The Press.

Jesse Toavs

Former Sheridan resident Jesse Toavs, 87, of the Twin Cities area in Minnesota died there July 21, 2004.

A celebration of his life was in July in the Twin Cities area. Mr. Toavs was born July 25, 1916, in Ulen, Minn., to Abraham F. and Maria (Nickel) Toavs. He was educated in a country school and graduated from Wolf Point (Mont.) High School, Lustre Bible School and, in 1942, Northwestern Bible Institute of Minneapolis. He married Janice Evelyn Bonar of Forest City, Iowa, Nov. 28, 1942. They lived in Windom, Minn., and he worked for the American Sunday School Union. The family moved to Billings in 1953. Mr. Toavs worked for World Vision, raising funds for Korean orphanages. He traveled in Montana, North and South Dakota, Idaho, Wyoming and Canada. The family moved to Minnetonka, Minn., in 1958, and he worked for a Christian publishing company in Minneapolis. The family later moved to Sheridan. The Toavses were divorced in 1984, and Mr. Toavs moved to Billings, where he had a finance company. He continued working in Billings and Sheridan until 1997, when he moved to the Twin Cities area to be closer to family. Survivors include three sons, Alson E. of Andover, Minn., Donald L. of Richmond, Minn., and Timothy D. of Spearfish, S.D.; a daughter, Rosalyn R. Wald of Woodbury, Minn.; two brothers, Harry of Billings and John of Wolf Point; three sisters, Rosella, Lilly and Lila, all of the Wolf Point area; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

 

John Tucker Willson

John Tucker Willson, 80, of Sheridan died Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004, in Deaconess Hospital in Billings. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with the Rev. David Duprey officiating. Arrangements are with the family. Mr. Willson was born Aug. 26, 1924, in Glasgow, Mont. He did his undergraduate studies in Denver and at George Washington University. He received a Ph.D. from the University of Colorado Medical School, where hetaught human anatomy. He was preceded in death by a son, Terry. Survivors include his wife, Crete; two sons John C. and Robert Y.; five stepchildren, Michael, Anne, Paul, Jeanne and Joseph; a sister, Harriot; and 17 grandchildren. Byron `Bud' Wilbur Lindstrom

Byron `Bud' Wilbur Lindstrom, 70, of Sheridan died Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Kane Funeral Home with Sheridan Elks Lodge 520 officiating. A reception will follow at the Elks building, 45 W. Brundage St. Mr. Lindstrom was born Sept. 24, 1933, in Sheridan to Walter and Irene Mills Lindstrom. He played football for the Sheridan Broncs from 1950-53 and at the University of Wyoming from 1954-55. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957-59. He worked for Peter Kiewit construction and was a heavy-equipment operator at the Decker (Mont.) and Big Horn coal mines. He was a member of Elks Lodge 520 and the American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, Walt, and two sisters, Irene Harzke and Lucille Lindstrom. Survivors include three daughters, Melanie Neuman of Sheridan, Jean Lindstrom of Catawba, N.C., and Joan Lindstrom of Rapid City; longtime friend Sandy Merrill; and six grandchildren. Victor Bruce Lubkeman Sr.

Victor Bruce Lubkeman Sr., 68, of Gillette died suddenly in Buffalo Friday, Sept. 17, 2004. Private family services will be in the Big Horn Mountains. Arrangements are with Adams Funeral Home of Buffalo.

James Albert Cummings

James Albert Cummings, 68, of Greybull died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004, at the South Big Horn County Critical Access Hospital between Greybull and Basin, of complications of Alzheimer's disease. He was father of Tim Cummings of Sheridan. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Southern Baptist Church in Greybull with the Rev. Pete Kuhn officiating. Private burial will be at a later date in the Mount View Cemetery in Basin. Arrangements are with Atwood Family Funeral Directors of Basin. Mr. Cummings was born July 15, 1936, in the Florence Critterton Home in Denver to Alberta Cummings. The family returned to Basin when he was 5 days old. His mother died when he was a boy, and he was adopted at 5 years old by his grandmother, Myrtle Cummings. He attended Basin schools and later worked on the Bill and Alice Renner ranch on the Greybull River. He volunteered for the Army in September 1953. He was honorably discharged in 1955. He married Dixie Presnall Oct. 13, 1956, in the Basin United Methodist Church. He worked in the bentonite industry for Dresser Industries north of Greybull from 1958 until 1990, when he retired. He was a deacon emeritus in the Grace Southern Baptist Church and a member of the Mideway Golf Club. He enjoyed the outdoors, golfing and spending time with his granddaughters. Other survivors include his wife, of Greybull; two brothers, Guy of Powell and Bobby of Great Falls, Mont.; a sister, Mary Hubbell of Basin; a half-brother, Harry Berry of Washington; and two granddaughters. Margaret Ellen Hamstreet

Sheridan native Margaret Ellen “Peg” Hamstreet, 83, of Bellingham, Wash., died Tuesday, Sept. 14, at her residence. A memorial service was this morning at St. James Presbyterian Church in Bellingham. Arrangements are with Westford Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Bellingham. Mrs. Hamstreet was born Aug. 11, 1921, in Sheridan to Samuel and Alice (Bottomley) Upton. She moved to Bellingham in 1961. She taught private piano lessons and in the music department at Western Washington University. She belonged to numerous organizations including St. James Presbyterian church, P.E.O. Sisterhood, the Bellingham Women's Music Club, where she was past president, and the Bellingham Golf and Country Club, where she was the first woman president. Survivors include her husband, James; three sons, Richard of Randle, Wash., Charles of Bellingham and James of Sammamish, Wash.; and three grandchildren. Charles `Chuck' Forry

Charles “Chuck” Forry, 63, of Sheridan died Sunday, Sept. 12, 2004, in the Sheridan VA Medical Center after a six-year battle with cancer. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Revs. Ronald Nelson and Wilbur Holz officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with military rites by the American Legion and Wyoming National Guard. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Forry was born April 25, 1941, in Lambert, Mont., to Harold and Clara (Mastvelten) Forry. He married Joyce Wells June 4, 1963, in Savage, Mont. They lived in Baker, Mont., until February 1965, when Mr. Forry was drafted into service. He was a combat engineer in Vietnam. The family moved to Sheridan in 1969. Mr. Forry worked 35 years for Warehouse Market, belonged to Trinity Lutheran Church, and was a former member of American Legion and Sheridan Elks Lodge 520. He was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters and a granddaughter. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Todd of Laramie and Bryan of Boca Raton, Fla.; a daughter, Lynn of Prosser, Wash.; a brother, Loren of Aurora, Minn.; a sister, Lorraine Gillach of Aurora; and a grandson. David Lee Torrence

Sheridan native David Lee Torrence, 44, of Glendale, Ariz., died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2004, in Glendale. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Wesleyan Church Hall in Buffalo with the Rev. Tom Saur officiating. Burial will be in Willow Grove Cemetery. Mr. Torrence was born Dec. 27, 1959, in Sheridan to Wilbur and Georgette Torrence. He grew up and attended schools in Buffalo. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Huachuca, Ariz. He served with the 2221st Quartermaster Company (Petroleum Supply) Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm in the Persian Gulf. He received numerous awards and honors. He was preceded in death by his father. Survivors include a son, Michael of Sheridan; his mother of Pahrump, Nev.; two sisters, Bonnie Formisano of Sheridan and Susan Torrence of Billings; and a brother, Rodney of Salt Lake City.

Jason J. `Jim' Majszak

Jason J. “Jim” Majszak, 35, of Sheridan died Monday, Sept. 6, 2004, at his residence. Funeral liturgy was Friday at Holy Name Catholic Church with the Rev. Larry Fedor officiating. Cremation followed the service. Arrangements were with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Majszak was born Jan. 23, 1969, in Petoskey, Mich., to John and Theora (Evans) Majszak. The family moved to Bozeman, Mont., in 1972 and to Sheridan in 1977. Mr. Majszak was a graduate of Sheridan High School. He worked for Sheridan Manor, Rehabilitation Enterprises of North Eastern Wyoming and, later, for Rail Link at Spring Creek and Decker coal mines as leader of a train-loading crew. He enjoyed fishing, the mountains, four-wheeling, motorcycles and going to Wal-Mart. He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church. Survivors include a daughter, Nikki of Sheridan; his parents of Sheridan; three brothers, Greg of Johnstown, Colo., Matt of Ranchester and Monty of Thornton, Colo.; and three sisters, Lisa Majszak of Billings, Kristy Szmul of Plano, Texas, and Mary Ann Dexter of Canon City, Colo. Harold Bruce Tyler

Harold Bruce Tyler, 56, of Sheridan died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004, at his residence. Cremation has taken place, and private family services and inurnment will be later at a national veterans' cemetery. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Tyler was born Feb. 18, 1948, in Omaha, Neb. He was adopted at the age of 3 months by Robert H. and Gwyneth (Wright) Tyler of Ainsworth, Neb. He grew up in Ainsworth, attended junior high school in Wheatland and was a 1966 graduate of Ainsworth High School, where he played football. He attended Kearney (Neb.) State College and entered the U.S. Army in 1968, serving in Korea on the Demilitarized Zone during the Vietnam War. After being discharged from the military, he moved to Riverton, where he worked in the shop at Lucky Mc Uranium. He was a 1974 graduate of the University of Nebraska with a degree in journalism. For a brief time, he was advertising director for the newspaper in Louisville, Neb. He worked in graphic design and as a printer for an insurance company in Lincoln, Neb., until returning to Ainsworth, where he worked for Radio Station KBRB and cared for his ailing mother. He returned to Riverton in 1998. He lived in Buffalo and Colorado before moving to Sheridan in 2003. He worked as an orderly at the Sheridan VA Medical Center. He enjoyed fishing, the mountains, cats, computers and music and played the keyboards. He was a member of the Congregational faith and had been a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his stepmother, Carolyn B. Tyler of Riverton; an aunt; and several cousins.

Ken `Benny' Haratyk

Ken “Benny” Haratyk, 46, of Sheridan died Sunday, Sept. 5, 2004. Cremation has taken place, and Mr. Haratyk's cremains will be scattered on his property. An informal gathering to celebrate Mr. Haratyk's life will be 2 p.m. Friday at Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Haratyk was born June 21, 1958, in Sheridan to Wilhelm and Elizabeth (Yalowizer) Haratyk. He guided hunters at the NX Bar Ranch for 10 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and his dog, Ollie. He also enjoyed athletics, hunting, fishing and golf and was an avid sports fan, following all the Big Horn Rams football and basketball games, the Wyoming Cowboys and the Denver Broncos. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include a brother, William of Sheridan; four sisters, Linda Little, Annie Drown, Angie Armstrong and Teresa Davidson, all of Sheridan; and 10 nieces and nephews. Ora Hazel Maurer

Ora Hazel Maurer, 81, of Sheridan died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004, in Sheridan Manor. Cremation has taken place. A memorial gathering for family and friends will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Big Horn Mountain Eagles building, 1760 Commerce Lane. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Maurer was born March 14, 1923, in Van Hook, N.D., to John and Thea Howie. She married Harold George Maurer Aug. 11, 1941, in Wolf Point, Mont. They owned a farm near Parshall, N.D., until Mr. Maurer's job as a seismographer took the family to Montana, Wyoming and Texas. The family settled in Sheridan in 1954. Mrs. Maurer worked at the Coil Factory until it closed, then was a waitress as several restaurants in the area, including the Tunnel Inn and the Sheridan Inn. She also bartended at several area establishments, retiring from the American Legion Club. Mrs. Maurer was a member of Eagles 4169 Ladies Auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the Does. She enjoyed bingo, dart ball, playing pool, cards and dice and spending time with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Janet Richards; a brother; and two sisters. Survivors include two sons, James and John, both of Sheridan; three daughters, Hazel Rotolo of Sheridan and Connie Johnson and Helen Deutsch, both of Ranchester; two sisters, Ruth Maurer of Spokane, Wash., and Helen Bangan of New Town, N.D.; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Wendell E. Loomis

Wendell E. Loomis, 87, of Big Horn died Sunday, Sept. 5, 2004, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Visiting hours will be 6-8 p.m. today at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. David Duprey officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Big Horn. Mr. Loomis was born June 6, 1917, in Murray, Iowa, to Ralph and Elsie (Bierma) Loomis. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from St. Mary's (Iowa) High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Wyla Elaine Jacobs, Feb. 26, 1941, in Indianola, Iowa. The couple moved to Wyoming in 1941 and worked for Ralph Wiley on Prairie Dog Creek for four years. They later moved to Big Horn, where Mr. Loomis was dairyman for Goelet Gallatin at the Gallatin Ranch. When the ranch sold the dairy herd and developed a Hereford cow-calf operation, Mr. Loomis became foreman. He later bought all the cattle and machinery and leased the ranch until 1984, when he retired. He was a ditch rider for the Last Chance ditch for several years. He was a charter member of the Big Horn Lions Club and served as president. He was a 4-H leader for many years and a member of the Big Horn Volunteer Fire Department and the Mount Hope Cemetery board of directors. He enjoyed building cabinets, knickknack boxes and planters and was the primary architect for a mountain cabin. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting with his family and riding his four-wheeler to the cabin. He was preceded in death by two brothers. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dennis of Big Horn and Marion of Cheyenne; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Jason J. `Jim' Majszak

Jason J. `Jim' Majszak, 35, of Sheridan died Monday, Sept. 6, 2004, at his residence after a long illness. Funeral liturgy will be 10:15 a.m. Friday at Holy Name Catholic Church with the Rev. Larry Fedor officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Betty Lee Cooper

Former Sheridan resident Betty Lee Cooper, 82, Gillette, died Monday, Sept. 6, 2004, at Pioneer Manor in Gillette. Public viewing is until 4 p.m. today at Kane Funeral Home. Graveside services are 3 p.m. Thursday at Sheridan Municipal Cemetery, the Rev. Don Derryberry officiating. Born April 11, 1922, in Sheridan to Otis and Leona (DeLine) Neuenschwander, she attended Arvada and Sheridan schools and lived near here for many years before moving to Fresno, Calif., in 1975. Mrs. Cooper worked in nursing service at Sheridan Memorial Hospital, Sheridan VA Medical Center, and Fresno Veterans Hospital. While in Sheridan, she belonged to Immanuel Lutheran Church and was president of Trainman Ladies. She joined Grace United Methodist Church in Fresno in 1989. She also belonged to Royal Neighbors of America and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 884 in Fresno. She married Pete Filbert on Oct. 19, 1938, and they divorced in 1975. She married Oscar Cooper in 1975. Following his death in 2002, she resided at the home of her son in Gillette. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Constance Neuenschwander and Barbara Jo “Jody” Badgett. Survivors include four sons, Charles “Ron” Filbert of Gillette, David Filbert of Sheridan, John Filbert of Pennsylvania, and Gregory Filbert of Dayton; two sisters, Jean Pennington of Edmonds, Wash., and Sharon Sorchevich of Gary, Ind.; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

 

Betty E. Ritter

Betty E. Ritter, 74, Sheridan, died Sunday, Sept. 5, 2004, at Westview Health Care Center. Public viewing is 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today at Kane Funeral Home. Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, Pastor John Jackson officiating. Private burial will be in Willow Grove Cemetery, Buffalo. Born May 22, 1930, in Buffalo to Edward and Fannie (Winigar) Lytle, she married Robert Ritter in Buffalo on Sept. 6, 1947. They lived in Texas, Nebraska, California, Colorado, and other parts of Wyoming before moving to Sheridan in 1982. Mrs. Ritter enjoyed sewing, motorcycle riding, reading, watching old movies, and cooking for and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Charles, George, Warren ,and Roy Lytle; a sister, Elenore Mae Baker; and a grandson, Hazen Trevor Ritter. Survivors include her husband; a son, George Ritter; four daughters, Ardy Aerni, Alice “Binji” Bartes, Amy Powell, and Becky Moody; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

 

Arlene M. Struble

Former Sheridan resident Arlene M. Struble, 65, Enid, Okla., died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004, in Integris Bass Baptist Medical Center in Enid. Services were Friday in First Baptist Church in Drummond, Okla., with burial in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Born May 16, 1939, in Cortez, Colo., to Lonnie and Rosie (Gilland) Aulston, she graduated from Cortex High School in 1955 and married Leonard Gene Struble on Oct. 14, 1958, in Cortez. They lived in Cortez, Enid, Perryton, Texas, Montana, and Arkansas. Mrs. Struble worked eight years with Laborers Union Local 107 and as a waitress. She belonged to First Baptist Church of Drummond. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1989, a brother, and a sister. Survivors include two children, Lonnie Gene Struble of Summers, Ark., and Jamey Lynn Struble of Kansas, Okla.; eight brothers and sisters, Doris Vaughn of Enid, Russell Aulston of Cortez, Johnny Aulston of Roselia, Wash., Della Richardson of Tempe, Ariz., Dorothy Jones of Payson, Ariz., Pearl Bishop of Dolores, Colo., Dessie Jaskeicz of Monroe, N.J., and Sara Priddly of Yakima, Wash.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. DuWayne Kermit “Cowboy” Livengood, 63, of Sheridan died Friday, Aug. 27, 2004, in Sheridan Manor of cancer. Memorial services were Friday at First Congregational United Church of Christ with the Rev. Bob Miller officiating. Services also were Thursday in the Chapel of Stevenson Funeral Home in Baker, Mont. Mr. Livengood was born March 31, 1941, in Miles City, Mont., to Kermit and Marian (Good) Livengood. He attended Plevna (Mont.) Grade School and dropped out of Plevna High School his senior year. He later completed a tooling leather class in Helena, Mont. He married Marjorie Ann Wiseman June 2, 1961, in Ekalaka, Mont. They later were divorced. He married Joyce Elgin in Miles City. They divorced later. Mr. Livengood's passion was horses. He enjoyed the cowboy life and worked for various ranches and farms. He was employed for a time at O&M Elevator in Baker. Survivors include two sons, Keneon of Los Angeles and Kadean of Vermont; a daughter, Angie Simac of Huntley, Mont.; two brothers, Dwight of Miles City and Ross of Billings; and a sister, Bonita Phillips of Lebanon, Ore. Bert J. Miller

Bert J. Miller, 81, of Hardin, Mont., died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004, in the Big Horn County Memorial Nursing Home. He was stepfather of Steven Bond of Sheridan. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Bullis Mortuary Funeral Chapel in Hardin. Burial with military honors will follow in Hardin Fairview Cemetery. Mr. Miller was born March 13, 1923, in Hardin to Charles and Jessie Porter Miller. He grew up and attended schools in Hardin and was a 1941 graduate of Hardin High School. He entered the U.S. Army and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged. He married Ruth Grossman Feb. 18, 1947, in Hardin. Mrs. Miller died in 1980. Mr. Miller married Jean Bond Nov. 8, 1980, in Hardin. He operated the Conoco Bulk plant for Campbell Farming Corp. for more than 25 years, retiring in 1987. He enjoyed gardening, walking and watching television. In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Josephine Taylor, and two brothers, Art and Robert Ebeling. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Carol Garcia of Nevada, Diane Reichenberg of Lincoln, Mont., and Marsha Ables of California; a son, Bert Jr. of Hardin; another stepson, John Bond of Billings; a sister, Louise Boyington of Idaho; two half sisters, Maddarine Bowers and Lee Joyce Denny, both of Hardin; 19 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Bette Marie Borgan

Bette Marie Borgan, 80, of Billings died Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, in Billings Deaconess Hospital. She was mother of Betty Ann (Bez) Malli of Arvada. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday in Bullis Mortuary Funeral Chapel in Hardin, Mont. Burial will be in the Hardin Fairview Cemetery. Mrs. Borgan was born May 23, 1924, in Butte, Mont., to Ferdinand and Myrtle Melbraatin Henry. She grew up and attended schools in Butte and graduated from Butte Senior High School. She worked at the Hennessey Department Store in Butte before marrying Horst F. Burgman Sept. 4, 1942, in Portland, Ore. The couple later divorced. She married David Borgan Dec. 15,1962, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. They made their home in Hardin. Mr. Borgan died in 1984. Mrs. Borgan worked for Valley Implement Co. and was later a legal secretary for Legal Services of Montana. She was a member of the Lutheran Church and the Order of Eastern Star Jasmine Chapter. She enjoyed needlepoint, cross-stitch, creating afghans, reading and camping and fishing with Mr. Borgan. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimmie Lou Burgman. Survivors include a son, Milt Burgman of Billings; another daughter, Marta Burgman of Hardin; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
