The beautiful and loving consciousness of Haroldine Peterson left us peacefully, early in the morning of Tuesday, September 8, 2009. Haroldine was born in Caldwell, Idaho on March 11, 1924. At the time, her father, Robert Jones, ran a dairy. Her mother, Mae Jones, also worked from sun to sun caring for the family _ now four sisters and one brother. When Haroldine was five, her parents sold the dairy, moved to town and purchased and operated a grocery store. Haroldine attended high school in Idaho, Colorado (where she was elected as a cheerleader) and California. She graduated in 1942. Intent on making her own contribution to the World War II effort, she worked as a station agent for the Union Pacific Railroad for two years. Afterwards she attended Walla Walla College and later worked as an assistant editor at Washington State University. There she met our father Donald Peterson. They married in 1947 and honeymooned in Sun Valley. Afterwards they attended the sugar beet convention in Colorado Springs, then drove on to make their new home in Sheridan, Wyoming where Don was newly employed as a geneticist with Holly Sugar Corporation. In Sheridan, Haroldine was active in the Congregational Church, P.E.O. Chapter T, membership drives for Community Concerts, PTA, book review club, bridge groups, square dancing, and all the ice skating, sledding, snowball throwing, tent camping, and picnicking offered by such an idyllic place to raise kids. The family moved to California in 1970. As an Executive Secretary at Fujitsu Corporation in the San Francisco Bay Area, Haroldine was nicknamed Dena. She graduated from West Valley College, managed a chain of shoe stores, was a supermodel at the Emporium, I Magnin and Saks and became a certified graphologist. She remained active in P.E.O. and also enjoyed line dancing, ballroom dancing, and was an avid dowser and a student of metaphysics. If you lived in Sheridan in the 1950s and 1960s, you would probably remember Haroldine. Those who met her even briefly remark that she extended unconditional love and listened with genuine interest. She saw only the good in people yet laughed at the ironies of life. She had a quick wit. In her presence you felt healed. Her favorite color was lavender in any shade. She even loved its aroma. Others called her Haroldine or Dena. We are so proud to have called her Mom. We miss her. But her gentle touch will always be with us, her words of wisdom always in our ear, her loving kindness always an inspiration. And though we no longer have the privilege of holding her hand, looking into her eyes, or hearing her laugh, we feel her presence often. Haroldine is preceded in death by Donald Peterson and their son Terry. She is survived by daughters Bobbi Peterson and Karen (and Ron) Dickenson living in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Diane (Baker) Hutchinson age 79, of Sheridan, Wyoming, a very beautiful lady with an unlimited supply of love for her family, passed away on Saturday, March 6, 2010 in Gillette, Wyoming of respiratory failure. At her request, cremation will take place and private family services will be held at a later date at the Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis SD. Diane was born in Glendive, Montana on August 15, 1930 to Clem and Willah (Shaub) Baker. Diane was truly a native of Glendive as all of her maternal great-grandparents settled there in the early 1880_s. She attended Washington Elementary School and graduated from Dawson County High School in 1948. After high school, she worked as an operator for Mountain Bell before moving to Yakima, Washington in the fall of 1949 where she was employed by two different news agencies. Diane returned to Glendive in the fall of 1952 and worked for Consolidated Freightways. Diane married C. Keith Hutchinson on December 23, 1953 in Glendive. They spent the next twenty-five years traveling as part of Keith_s Air Force career. They shared fifty-six wonderful and adventurous years together as they lived in Texas, Nevada, Florida, Georgia, Arizona, Massachusetts, Montana, Alabama, Virginia, Iran and Oklahoma before settling in Sheridan, Wyoming in 1978. No matter where they lived or how humble the house, Diane always transformed it into a home. Diane was an avid bowler until arthritis forced her to quit. She set house records and was among the best female bowlers wherever she competed. In her later years, she even out played her family in Wii Bowling. She also loved to fish and frequently reminisced about doing so at Intake with her dad as a kid. When fishing with her husband, she often kept score, but there was no need because she nearly always caught more than him. After her husband retired, they traveled to Canada, Alaska, Mexico, Hawaii, Australia, and about the continental United States. Camping with their pick-up camper and, in later years, their motor home, were yearly highlights. She enjoyed snow birding to escape part of the Wyoming winter. She especially liked having the entire family together at an annual campout at Glendo Reservoir or in the Black Hills. When at home, Diane enjoyed sitting on her back porch to take in the view of the Big Horn Mountains and watch the wild animals that visited her yard. She had a complicated relationship with the deer, as they were fun to watch but frustratingly fond of her flower beds. She cared deeply for all animals, but had a special love for her record-breaking twenty-eight pound cat, _TC_. She also spent many pleasurable hours doing crossword puzzles, playing back- gammon, and having long telephone conversation with her children. Diane is survived by her husband Clarence Keith Hutchinson of Sheridan, WY; daughter Debbie Wolf (Frank) of Gillette, WY; daughter Vicki Burgess (Freddy) of Bailey, CO; son, Jerry (Gerveann) Hutchinson of Gillette, WY; and grandchildren Ryan Wolf of Denver, CO; Erin Wolf (Aaron) Spatz of Denver, CO; Kayla Wolf of Laramie, WY; and Tracy Nemes of Gillette, WY. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Ellenor Ripley. Condolences may be sent in her name in care of Walker Funeral Home, 410 Medical Arts Court, Gillette, WY 82716. Beverly Joyce (Waddell) White died quietly Mar. 1, 2010, at Community Home Health and Hospice, Longview, Wash. Born Oct. 11, 1928 in Sheridan, Wyo., Beverly was a devoted wife and mother, who faced life and its many challenges with strength and dignity. Beverly was the daughter of John Jackson Waddell and Alice Corinne (Tift) Waddell. She was raised in and around Sheridan, leaving in September 1950 to marry David Keith White who was in the Army in Hopkinsville, KY. Over the years, Beverly and her growing family moved to military postings at Camp Cambell, KY. and Fort Bragg, N.C., before returning to Sheridan for a time. The family later lived at Fort Leonard Wood, MO., Longview, WA. and White Sands Missile Range (WSMR), NM. David retired from the Army while in New Mexico and he and Beverly bought a small farm on the outskirts of Las Cruces. Working hard and teaching themselves along the way, they built their home, including logging the poles for the roof beams, and laying thousands of adobe bricks. Over the years, Beverly held a variety of jobs from nursing at retirement homes and hospitals, to pumping gas at the base service station at WSMR. While living in Las Cruces, she was a Tax Assessor for the Elephant Butte Irrigation District (EBID). She worked with most of the area farmers who knew her by the nickname ‘Charlie’. An accomplished horsewoman, she rode both western and English, riding for pleasure and competition. Following the death of her beloved husband David, Beverly moved back to Longview to be near family. One constant element through the years was Beverly’s love of art in nearly any form. Art was deeply ingrained in Beverly’s soul. In her earlier years she would take art classes whenever possible. In later life, she took classes through the New Mexico State University and at senior citizen centers and libraries. Her artistic interests included sketching and painting pastoral scenes, people in everyday activities and still lifes. A talented sculptor, she completed many busts and figures of people and animals, earning many awards. Attracted by the vibrant colors and textures, Beverly took weaving classes and built two looms, which she used to create intricate table runners, hangings and shawls. When asked once of what she most proud, she said simply “her children.” Beverly was preceded her in death by her daughter Kelly, and is survived by her other children: Patrice Michele Geiselhart of Wheatland, Okla., Donna Kathleen Orr of Longview, Wash., David Kent White of Hooks, Texas, and Joy Dean Samsel of Pensacola, Fla. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Beverly wished for no funeral services and her ashes will be buried next to husband David and daughter Kelly in Sheridan. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the Community Home Health and Hospice, PO Box 2067, Longview, Wash. 98632.

On March 2, 2010, Mom and God agreed that it was time for her to have the peace she has wanted for several years and she joined two of the people she loved and missed the most; Dad and our sister Lin. Mom was born in Casper, Wyoming on July 6, 1919, to Josephine Doran Gerber and Charlie Gerber. Charlie left the family when Mom was 2 and Grandma married Cecil Lucas on September 12, 1923. Her brother John was born while the family was tending sheep and living in a sheep wagon. Mom spoke often of being so happy to have a baby brother to play with; Mom and Uncle Pete (a nickname that Mom gave him that stuck) remained close until his death. Mom graduated from Campbell County High School and started teaching in rural one-room schools when she was 17. It was a lonely time for her but she stuck it out and had several adventures trying to get to and from the school from the ranch houses where she boarded. Much later in life, she returned to her teaching career and taught at Wyola Elementary School for 3 years, driving the 100 mile round trip every day. Mom loved to teach, whether it was in school or with her grandchildren or great grandchildren and remained a teacher her entire life. She met and fell in love with Leonard Harris and they married in August of 1940. Our sister Lin was born before Leonard joined the army; he was killed in action on Mindanao in 1945. After the war Mom was courted by our father, Jim Berry, and they were married on July 1, 1946 in Gillette, Wyoming. Mike, Dan and John (or the three "Berry Boys" as we are proud to be called) followed and were raised in Sheridan and Clearmont before settling in Big Horn. Mom was always active in the community, especially the Big Horn Woman's Club, where she was famous for her pies. No dinner at the club was complete without a Bette Berry pie. She was also very involved in the establishment of the Big Horn City Historical Society and worked hard to maintain its' growing success. One of the hardest parts about leaving the home that she and Dad built was moving away from Big Horn and all her friends. Mom is survived by her three sons and their families: Mike and his wife Sandy, their children Andre and Gaston Barajas, Scott and Tom Berry; Dan and his wife Kay and children Courtney and Lucas and John, his wife Janet and children David, Emily and Adam. We lost our sister Lin Luedtke in 2007; her children are Susan O'Shea, husband Kevin, and Bryan Luedtke, wife Shawnee. Bette was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Leonard Harris and James P. Berry, daughter Lin Luedtke and brother John Lucas. We want to extend our thanks and gratitude to the staff at Sugarland Ridge for taking such good care of Mom for the past two years and to the nurses, CNA's and all of the others at Sheridan Memorial Hospital for the care and concern given her these past days. Special thanks to Dr. Adler for having helped Mom in the long term and to Dr. Susan Roberts for your compassion and caring during the short time you took care of her. You are all very special people and you made Mom's journey and our loss a peaceful, natural transition. Memorials can be made to the Big Horn City Historical Society or the Big Horn Woman's Club. Mom requested that no services be held, but as we tended to do growing up, we're going to fudge a bit and have a gathering at a later date when the weather is warm and the flowers are out.

Michael J. Gazur of Ranchester, WY passed away February 24, 2010, at the V. A. Medical Center in Sheridan, WY after a brief illness. All who knew Michael will miss his proud, forceful, fiercely independent, yet generous, loving, and cheery approach to life. Michael was born on August 9, 1912 in Kooi, Wyoming to Anna (Kawulok) and Thomas Andy Gazur, recent immigrants from Eastern Europe. Michael's father was employed on ranches in the Sheridan area, so the family moved from place to place. Michael rode horseback to school, but ultimately he replaced the horses with his prized Model A Ford. He graduated from Ranchester High School in May, 1931, where he was a member of the Rustler football and basketball teams. As a young man, Michael worked in the meatpacking business, principally in the employ of George Legerski. World War II changed everything for him. He was inducted into the United States Army, and was deployed to the Pacific in the 35 th Infantry Medical Detachment. Michael was a combat medical corpsman and saw front line action throughout the Pacific. He received two Purple Hearts and a citation for his service on Guadalcanal. His body carried shrapnel from wounds (one was the consequence of shelling by Japanese tanks), and pieces of that metal would fester sores and be expelled from his body from time to time. His war experiences influenced the rest of his life. Following the War, Michael returned to the Ranchester area and resumed employment as a butcher. In July 28, 1949 he married Anna Louise Cable. Before the marriage, they designed, and he built, their residence in Ranchester. Michael was skilled in many of the building trades, a value that he passed on to his two sons, Roger and Wayne. In 1958, Michael began working at the V. A. Medical Center in Sheridan. Prior to that time, he had served as the Fire Chief for the Tongue River Fire Protection District, so it was natural that he ultimately joined the V. A. Fire Department. He absolutely loved the work and served as a crew chief. Always striving to improve what he saw, he received several awards for his innovations at the V. A. Medical Center. Michael was also active in Town of Ranchester affairs, and served as a Town councilman for many years. After retiring from the V. A., Michael and his wife devoted their time to farming, fishing and hunting, and family. In his seventies, he tried golf with his son Wayne and grandson Joel. On his first outing, without any instruction, he routinely drove the ball 200+ yards. In his words, "This is simple - it is just like driving nails." His wife, Anna Louise, passed away in 1990. In spite of that great loss, Michael continued to carry on, and lived independently until the very last years of his life, when he moved in the fall of 2007 to the Mountain View Living Center at the V. A. Medical Center. His family deeply appreciates the loving care that he received there. In addition to his wife, Michael was preceded in death by his four siblings (George, Helen, Joe and Mary). He is survived by his two sons and their wives: Roger C. Gazur (Mary Kay) of Beulah, North Dakota, and Wayne M. Gazur (Maija) of Boulder, Colorado. He is also survived by four step-grandchildren, Joel and Lija Fisher, Kurt and Brian Frank, as well as three step-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. His two sons have never had any heroes other than their father. Viewing will be from 10:00am until 2:00pm on Sunday, Feb. 28 th at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 2:00pm on Monday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Douglas Goodwin officiating. Cremation will follow the service.
