Susan Lucille Barkhoff Chan, 51, of Billings died May 1, 2008 at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle while awaiting a liver transplant. She was sister of Carla Engdahl of Sheridan. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. June 21 in Creel Funeral Home Chapel in Lewistown, Mont. Inurnment will be in Lewistown City Cemetery before the service. Mrs. Chan was born Aug. 3, 1956, in Lewistown to Clifford and Juanita Barkhoff. She grew up on the family farm at Garneill, Mont., and attended Judith Gap High School. She enjoyed photographing family and friends, going to the park with her grandchildren, biking and swimming. She worked as a waitress, with the clerical staff at H & R Block, and assisted at the Rescue Mission. She was preceded in death by a brother, Lonnie. Survivors include her children, Tracy Parker of Alvord, Texas, Synobia Chan of Billings, and Jason Barkhoff and Shayla Chan, both of Seattle; her parents; four other sisters, Diane Waltenbaugh of Billings, Gail Van Ommen of Missoula, Mont., Marilynn Cady of Red Lodge, Mont., and Beverly Barkhoff of Hardin, Mont.; a brother, Theodore Barkhoff of Lewistown; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services for former Sheridan resident Dr. Lucille K. Kuchera, 89, of Pinckney, Mich., were Saturday at Gregory (Mich.) Community Church. Private burial services will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery under direction of Kane Funeral Home. Kuchera, a physician, died May 4, 2008. She graduated from Pinckney High School in 1938 and worked her way through college. She graduated from Northwestern University and was one of only three women to graduate in her class at Wayne Medical School. She moved to Wyoming to become doctor for the coal-mining community of Monarch, north of Sheridan. She married Andy Kuchera in 1951. After the mines closed, the Kucheras moved to Story, where Mrs. Kuchera also served as town doctor. Mr. Kuchera died in 1988, and Mrs. Kuchera later returned to Michigan to care for her mother. A physician at the University of Michigan and Veterans Hospital in Battle Creek, Mich., she continued working full time as a physician into her 80s. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Al. Survivors include two sons, John of Waco, Texas, and Jim of Boise, Idaho; a brother, Andy of Nashville, Tenn.; and four grandchildren. Former Sheridan County resident Merle Joyce Cassel, 81, of Buffalo died May 12, 2008, in Johnson County Health Care Center. A private celebration of her life is planned with arrangements by Adams Funeral Home. Mrs. Cassel was born Sept. 8, 1926, in Chicago to Clarence and Florence Newcomb Hansen. Her family moved to California, Montana and, when she was 7 years old, to Midwest, where she attended school. She was a 1944 graduate of Midwest High School. She married Willard G. Hamer on Nov. 8, 1944, in Midwest; they were divorced. She married George Mark Cassel on May 15, 1975, in Rapid City. The couple resided in Banner and Sheridan before moving to Buffalo, where they retired. Mr. Cassel died in 1997. Mrs. Cassel was past member of Order of the Eastern Star and Midwest Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She enjoyed spending time with her family and her dog, Dakota, camping, playing the organ, and bird-watching. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons and one brother. Survivors include a son, Willard E. Hamer of Spencer, Wis.; two daughters, Lori Blackmore of Midwest and Lorna Larson of Buffalo; one stepson, Zane Cassel of Evanston; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and five step-grandchildren. BUFFALO Logan E. Billman, infant son of Rebecca and Tom Billman of Buffalo, died May 9, 2008, in St. Vincent's Medical Center in Billings. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo with the Rev. Walt Widdis officiating. Burial will be in Willow Grove Cemetery with graveside rites. Funeral services for Daisy M. Williams, 86, of Sheridan will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sheridan Wesleyan Church with David Asbury officiating. Burial will be in Dayton Cemetery under direction of Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Viewing will be 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Williams died May 9, 2008, in Sheridan Manor. She was born March 1, 1922, in Selmer, Ark., to Thomas and Zillie (Bell) Cantrell. She grew up in Arkansas and Tennessee. She moved to the Sheridan area from Jackson, Tenn., in 1946 and worked for a dry cleaning business. She married Elmer Williams in 1948 in Hardin, Mont. They resided in Sheridan. Mr. Williams died in 1976, and Mrs. Williams went to work at Memorial Hospital as a housekeeper for 14 years. She worked for Home Health Care until she retired. She enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, growing flowers, reading, dancing and being with her family. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Dorothy and Lily; a son, Noah; a stepson, Roy; three brothers, William, Buster and Hollis; and a sister, Myrtle. Survivors include a son, Larry of Huntsville, Ala.; three daughters, Susie Smith of Camden, S.C., Margaret Gwathney of Tulsa, Okla., and Rose Crow of Casper; a sister, Francis Ballard of Chicago; 28 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Graveside services for former Sheridan resident Gladys Newbrough, 86, of Torrington will be 10 a.m. in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with the Rev. Don Derryberry officiating. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mrs. Newbrough died May 9, 2008, in Torrington. She was born Sept. 15, 1921, in Ardmore, S.D., to Lawrence and Mary Ann Hume. She attended college in Chadron, Neb., and received her teaching certificate. She married Loyd Newbrough in 1945. She enjoyed tending houseplants and being with her family. She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, Roland Hume. Survivors include two sons, Marvin of Sheridan and Harold of Rawlins; two sisters, Joy Novakovich of Torrington and Clarice Waltman of Sun City, Ariz.; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Ashley Lynn Small, infant daughter of Natalie Baros and Jeremy Small of Sheridan, died May 7, 2008, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with the Rev. Ron Stolcis officiating. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home.
Memorial services for former Sheridan resident Virginia R. Ginger Loucks, 75, of Colorado Springs, Colo., will be noon Tuesday at Bethesda Worship Center, 1100 Big Horn Ave. Mrs. Loucks died April 27, 2008, in Colorado Springs. Her obituary was published in Tuesday's Sheridan Press.

BUFFALO Former Buffalo resident Clyde Olen Clawson Jr., 31, of Riverton died suddenly May 3, 2008, of natural causes. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo with the Rev. Bob McHenry officiating. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. Wednesday and 8:30-9:30 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel. Private interment services will be in Willow Grove Cemetery. Memorial services for Jeremy G. Sikkenga, 29, of Sheridan will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Doolin officiating. Inurnment of cremains will be later in Sheridan Memorial Cemetery under direction of Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mr. Sikkenga died May 6, 2008, at his residence. He was born Oct. 1, 1978, in Havre, Mont., to John and Sheila (Ausen) Sikkenga. He graduated from Sheridan High School, where he was a member of the swim team and a Christian youth group. After high school, he worked at several jobs until he became a drill hand at Kid Pronghorn. He enjoyed playing video games, writing poetry and being with his family. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a grandmother, Ruth Ausen, and a grandfather, Jim Balke. Survivors include his parents of Sheridan; two brothers, Nate of Gillette and Wesley of Sheridan; and his grandparents Glen and Helen Ausen of Laurel, Mont., and Lois Balke of Belgrade, Mont.
Sheridan native Jon Scott Hardesty, 48, of Black Eagle, Mont., died May 3, 2008, of complications from a construction accident in Geyser, Mont. A celebration of his life will be 2 p.m. today in the Rose Room of Croxford Funeral Home and Crematory in Great Falls, Mont. Cremation has taken place under direction of the funeral home. Mr. Hardesty was born Sept. 9, 1959, in Sheridan to Joel and Lila Hardesty. He attended Huntley Project Schools in Worden, Mont., where he was active in high school sports. He was a heavy-equipment operator. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, the company of his dog, Jackson, and hunting, camping and being outdoors. He married Leesa Jones in 1983. They divorced. He was preceded in death by his father and an infant brother, William. Survivors include a daughter, Joelyn Cotton of Indiana; two sons, Jonathan Hardesty of Great Falls and Josh Jones of Kentucky; his mother, Lila Fadrhonc; his stepmother, Carmen Hardesty of Arizona; four sisters, Susan Kautz, Margaret Maddock, Marylynn Stewart and Beth Huck; a stepsister, Debbie Alden; and several grandchildren. BUFFALO Former Buffalo resident Grace Ericksen, 91, of Murray, Utah, died May 3, 2008, in Murray. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Buffalo with Bishop Sean Durrant officiating. Arrangements are with Adams Funeral Home. Former Sheridan resident Virginia R. Ginger Loucks, 75, of Colorado Springs, Colo., died April 27, 2008, in Colorado Springs. Memorial services will be later. Arrangements are with Evergreen Funeral Home in Colorado Springs. Mrs. Loucks was born Dec. 9, 1932, in Trinidad, Colo., to Roger and Thelma Ambrose Albo. A retired waitress, she enjoyed crafts, playing the piano, dancing, singing and poetry. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Loucks; three brothers, Joe, Bert and Ronnie Albo; and two sisters, Irene Brown and Marie Hollingsworth. Survivors include seven children, Jerry Claflin of Sheridan, Jack Claflin and Richard Claflin, both of Trinidad, Ginger Kazmierkoski of Niagara, Wis., Irene Greer of Colorado Springs, Robert Loucks of San Diego, and Roger Loucks of Houston; 19 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. A memorial service for Jean Ewing, 76, of Story will be 6 p.m. Wednesday at Story Woman's Club. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Ewing died May 4, 2008, at her residence. She was born April 17, 1932, in Concordia, Kan., to Orville William and Doris Winifred (Brown) Smith. She grew up and attended schools in Kansas, Colorado and Wyoming. She was a 1950 graduate of Natrona County High School in Casper. She was a bartender/bar manager and worked at the Golden Steer, Sheridan Inn, Best Western Sheridan Center, the Wagon Box and Lodore, as well as several establishments in Red Lodge, Mont. She operated the Piney Pony Express taxi service between Story and Sheridan and a lunch wagon. She performed as Itch the Clown. She was a former employee of Collection Professionals and Avco Finance in Sheridan. She was preceded in death by a grandson. Survivors include two daughters, Doe Tabor of Eugene, Ore., and Diana Evan Huskey of Story; two brothers, Marston Beatty of Fort Bragg, N.C., and Bill Smith of Longmont, Colo.; and four grandchildren.
Memorial services for Larry Carbone, 57, of Banner will be 10 a.m. Friday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Davis officiating. Inurnment will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Mr. Carbone died April 19, 2008, in Sheridan Memorial Hospital of natural causes. He was born April 19, 1951, in Sheridan to Roco and Katherine Theresa (Scalise) Carbone. He attended Woodland Park Elementary School, Central Junior High School and Sheridan High School. He worked on a plantation in Hawaii for a time before returning to Sheridan. He worked three years for Spring Creek Coal, then moved to Coos Bay, Ore., where he began raising, breeding and showing Arabian horses. He later returned to Sheridan, where he worked briefly for Legerski Meat before going to work for the Wyoming Department of Transportation as a truck driver and snowplow operator. He retired from WYDOT in 2007 after more than 20 years of service. A member of the National Arabian Horse Association, he enjoyed hunting white-tailed deer, riding motorcycles in his younger days, and spending time with his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother. Survivors include a brother, Robert of Westminster, Colo. Velma Fay Harnish, 89, of Sheridan died May 5, 2008, in Pioneer Manor in Gillette. Funeral arrangements are pending with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.
Funeral services for Basil R. Hipple, 45, of Sheridan will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. William Heine officiating. Viewing will be 7-9 p.m. today and 8-10 a.m. Tuesday at Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Hipple died May 2, 2008, in Forsyth, Mont., of unknown cause. He was born Jan. 7, 1963, in Appleton, Minn., to Dick and Carol Hipple. After graduating from high school, he received a bachelor's degree from the University of North Dakota. He married Alicia Kupke on May 12, 2007, in Lusk. He was an engineer for Burlington Northern-Santa Fe Railroad. He was a Wyoming lobbyist and legislative representative for the railroad union and a member of Local 951. He was a member of ABATE of Northeast Wyoming (a motorcycle rights and safety organization), Sheridan County Sportsmen's Association, National Rifle Association, the Blackflies, and Immanuel Lutheran Church. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting and riding motorcycles. Survivors include his wife; his parents, of Bismarck, N.D.; a sister, Candy Vogel of Oakes, N.D.; and a brother, Chuck of Lisbon, N.D. BUFFALO Buffalo-native John Jake Robinson, 85, of Kaycee died April 29, 2008, in Johnson County Health Care Center in Buffalo. Graveside services were Friday in Willow Grove Cemetery in Buffalo with the Rev. Bob McHenry officiating. Arrangements were with Adams Funeral Home.
