Area coaches remember Christmas past
Our sports reporter Emily Simanskis asked the county's coaches for their favorite Christmas memory and a photo from Christmases past.
Big Horn basketball coach Cody Ball

“The best Christmas present I ever received was the 1992 Barcelona Olympics Dream Team Starting Lineups set. I had begged for them for over four months and was always told no — until Christmas came. The set included Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Charles Barkley and all of the other huge NBA stars of the time.”
Sheridan High School Activities Director Don Julian

Tongue River football coach Steve Hanson

“It has to be the year I got a new bike. I remember we had a bunch of snow, so it was tough to wait to ride it, but I was so excited. That would have been Christmas of 1991, which is the year this picture was taken, too.”
NA3HL Sheridan Hawks head coach Andy Scheib

“I got a four-wheeler once, and that was a good one. I was probably 13. It was something ‘Santa’ gave to me.”
Sheridan girls basketball coach Ryan Sullivan

Pictured here eating Christmas pies with his sister, “I got a pair of [Adidas] T-Mac 2s when I was a seventh-grader — loved them.”
Big Horn indoor track and field coach Andrew Marcure

“I believe I was three, and I got that John Deere tractor because my dad and grandpa just purchased the same tractor for our farm in Montana! I had a plow and a seeder I would drag around behind it playing in the yard pretending to be them! When I went home this summer, my dad gave it to me to bring back to Sheridan for my daughter to play with. Alaina loves the heck out of it and pushes it around in our backyard from time to time.”
Big Horn golf coach Lamont Clabaugh

“My favorite Christmas present was always picking up my great grandma from the airport and driving around and looking at Christmas lights.”
Sheridan golf coach Kaelee Saner

“I remember my favorite Christmas present as going to California each Christmas to be with my cousins and going to Disneyland on Christmas Day!! We were with my grandma, our family and my aunt’s family!! So many wonderful memories.”
NA3HL Sheridan Hawks assistant coach Chad Bailey

“I got a bunch of hockey gear when I was five. That was my favorite.”
Sheridan volleyball coach Lori Byrd

“My favorite Christmas present came on December 25, 1989, and I had my baby girl Danielle!! She is my Christmas angel!!”
Sheridan cross-country coach Art Baures

“My favorite Christmas present was a pair of Nike track spikes when I was 15 (not pictured). They were white, and I tried to clean them a lot so they would look new.”
Sheridan cheer coach Stephanie Vela

"One of my most memorable Christmas gifts I received was from my mom when I was a junior in high school. She gave my best friend, Jana, and I tickets to see Garth Brooks in concert at Cheyenne Frontier Days that following summer!! It was the early ‘90s so he was a HUGE star and we were beyond excited!!!”
