January 31, 1927 - September 30, 2020
Robert Donald Christensen passed away on September 30, 2020, at his home in Sheridan, Wyoming. Robert, better known as Bob, was born in Kimball, Nebraska on January 31, 1927, the son of Ejnar and Laura (Timm) Christensen. He grew up in Kimball, learning to be a baker alongside his father who owned the Kimball Bakery.
Bob was married to his high school sweetheart, Frances Mae Schindler, on June 6, 1948. He is survived by his loving wife, five daughters, Dee (Walt) Davis of Sheridan, WY; Danna (Rich) Williams of Laramie, WY; Darel Agresta of Englewood Cliffs, NJ; Dale Susan (Dan) McNierney, of Laramie, WY; and Darcy (Norm) Sams of Weston, WY; his sister, Elsie Gonsholt of Colorado Springs, CO; and sister-in-law, Wanda Christensen of Kimball, NE.
Bob and Fran have 13 grandchildren: Shauna Williams of Laramie, WY; Angie (Williams) Yother of Laramie, WY, Erin (Davis) Traub of Sheridan, WY, Beth (Davis) Wheatcroft of Chattanooga, TN, Anna (Davis) Youmans of Laramie, WY, Robert Agresta of New York City, NY, Jack Agresta of Norwood, NJ, Britta (McNierney) Starks of Laramie, WY, Joe McNierney of Laramie, WY, Felicia Sams of Gillette, WY, Cassie Sams of Weston, WY, Ashley Sams of Laramie, WY and Rachel Sams of Laramie, WY. Bob was also blessed with having 10 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Arne Christensen of Kimball, NE, brother N.E. “Bud” Christensen of Cheyenne, WY, and son-in-law, Joseph “Skip” Agresta of Englewood Cliffs, NJ.
Bob and Fran moved to Laramie after they were married and started “Chris’s Bakery” in downtown Laramie. He moved the business to East Grand and added Laramie’s first pizza delivery business and drive-up window. The bakery also served as a training ground for his daughters who learned from his strong work ethic at a very young age.
In the mid-60s, Bob sold the bakery and went into the real estate business. In 1977, he became the manager of the Laramie Country Club, where he worked until he retired in 1989. Bob and Fran were blessed to begin many years of enjoying retirement, being “snowbirds” in Florida. In 2014, they sold the Laramie home they built and lived in for sixty years when Bob’s health prevented him from living comfortably at the 7,000-foot elevation. They began spending their summers at Dee’s home until moving back to Sheridan permanently in June of this year.
Bob was known for his integrity, hard-work, managerial skills, strong business acumen and creativity. His talents included everything from creating hand-painted marzipan to wooden treasures for his grandchildren. He enjoyed sharing his passions for culinary creations, camping, golf, and investing with his children and grandchildren. He loved dancing with Fran and had a quick wit, and was also known to enjoy a good party.
